The Times of London published another column about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming trip to Australia. Really, the column was a piece of Deranger fiction, in which self-styled Sussex critics try in vain to bend reality to their delusions. Rocking in their padded cells, muttering “Australians hate Harry and Meghan, they’re running out of money, Netflix can’t stand them, runny jam, runny jam, runny jam.” This is partly a palace operation too, that’s why the royal commentators have been going buckwild about the Oz trip – it was no coincidence that a “royal insider” told Becky English that Meghan’s participation in an Australian girls’ retreat means that Meghan is “basically Fergie.” None of these people has the good sense God gave a grapefruit. Well, I thought you might like this piece from NewsNation, all about the (what else) Oz trip.
There have been scads of rumors surrounding Meghan Markle’s involvement in Gemma O’Neill’s “Her Best Life Weekend” in Sydney since it was announced earlier this month.
People have claimed Markle would be getting paid “millions” or even tens of thousands of dollars to co-host the April event taking place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Coogee Beach — but they’re wrong.
I’m told by a source close to the situation that Markle is indeed receiving a “nominal fee” (nowhere near the huge amounts cited elsewhere), and that is all.
”She’s going as a favor to a friend,” the source said.
However, travel costs are also being covered. The friend being Marcus Anderson, the Canadian consultant and Global Membership Director for SoHo House, who also introduced Markle to Prince Harry. Anderson is not only opening a SoHo House Sydney later this year, he is also good friends with O’Neill — who needs a financial boost as the Aussie tax man is on her for AUS$550,000 she owes in back taxes.
Prince Harry, however, is being paid a speaking fee for giving the keynote speech at the inaugural InterEdge Psychosocial Safety Summit in Melbourne. Harry, whose rates have dropped from $1 million in 2020 to just $50,000 per event, is said to be giving a speech regarding mental health in the workplace, strategies for improving psychosocial safety, and leadership, despite never having held down a regular job.
I’m also told the dynamic duo will be doing “lots of charity” work while they are there, although they apparently want it to be a surprise. One can only wonder if they will attempt to stop by Bondi Beach — the site of the December Hanukkah massacre, where 15 people (including a 10 year-old girl) were killed by Islamic extremists.
Let me get this straight… Meghan is receiving a nominal appearance fee and her travel expenses are being paid for. Harry dropped his speaking fee to a low amount to make a speech about issues he cares about deeply, mental health, psychosocial safety and leadership. On top of all that, Harry and Meghan will be doing several charity appearances, completely unpaid, and likely involving their Archewell Philanthropies donating money to local charities. At what point will royalists actually see what’s in front of them? This Oz trip is NOT about money. It was never about paychecks or speaking fees. Harry and Meghan are millionaires who wanted an excuse to travel to Australia to visit with friends, make a couple of minimally-paid appearances and focus on charity and their favorite causes. If the royalists admit that Harry and Meghan don’t *need* the money, then what are they left with? “How dare Harry and Meghan travel and be visible and steal the thunder of the grim left-behinds!”

It must be a great comfort for the Sussexes to know that wherever they go, and whatever they do, NewsNation (whoever they are) is keeping a close and watchful eye on their wallets. How comforting.
Maybe it’s also early promotion for an As Ever launch in Australia 🤭 It would be amazing. One year to go in Birmingham where the crowds will just love them + As Ever going international.
The press are going to pivot to the narrative that the crowds didn’t come out to see Harry and Meghan knowing very well that it’s not a tour and they won’t be doing walkabouts.
They absolutely are, and it’s such a stupid angle because this is essentially a business trip. Just like millions of other people go on business trips every single day. They attend conferences, go to dinners, accept awards, donate money, Network, and do a little sightseeing if they can. Harry and Meghan are operating no differently than half the other business travelers that will be in the Centurion or Delta One lounge at LAX.
I’ve read reports that the event organizers are making a charity donation. I think the charity might have some connection to mental health. I can’t see Meghan doing an appearance just to help a friend of a friend pay a tax bill? I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if there were a mental health thread throughout the visit. Harry is speaking at a cyber security conference just prior to going to Oz, so perhaps we’ll hear more about Australian legislation regarding teens and social media use.
Both the event Harry is speaking at and the event that Meghan is attending are in support of the same mental health charity.
I mean even if it was about the money, they still need to survive. I seriously cannot fathom how they have somehow made two people earning money, in ways that you don’t have to contribute to if you do not want to, the bad thing while a family earning money for being born with no actual requirements of work output, transparency, or adherence to national laws the good thing.
It’s really disgusting and petty to see how angry they are that two people aren’t failures. You really should take an accountant of yourself if you wish that people fail at life. I don’t wish that the BRF failed I wish they do more and even pretend to justify the mass amount of privilege that they are afforded.
So Meghan and Harry haven’t “dropped” their speaking fees, it’s just that they’re giving steep discounts to charities and friends. Why is this so hard for the British media to understand?
I suppose it’s a start, for NewsNation to acknowledge that the Sussexes are not profiting much, if anything, from this tour.
“despite never having held down a regular job.”
They say this of Harry with a straight face, despite his years of service in the military, which, sure, weren’t a “regular job,” but still required him to show up every day, be on time, follow orders and work with his fellow soldiers.
And despite the fact that NONE of the royals have held down regular jobs — and W&K merely make appearances now, when they can be bothered.
Not only that, but Harry has been holding down a regular job for years. Isn’t he still CIO (Chief Impact Officer) at BetterUp?
Even if they were getting paid to attend, none of this trip will cost taxpayers money in Australia and in the UK.
For British papers to obsess over this trip and never question the cost of when kate and William take secret vacations, all paid for by the taxpayers, is just gaslighting.
Because at minimum those RPOs for them are directly paid by the UK taxpayers when they go skiing in France or in Mustique.
The local taxpayers also (unwillingly, unknowingly) pay vast amounts for W&K jaunts. It isn’t all UK taxpayer money; the local authorities are mobilized as well. How much did all those patrolling police boats around the Greek yacht trip cost the Greek taxpayers?
Do these folks not understand what a business trip is? They’re going on a business trip and are minding their own business. You can do the same.
Let’s face it, if Harry and Meghan were taking five to six figures in appearance fees they’d get slammed for that. These outlets have a negative spin for any scenario.
