Sussex ‘source’ slams misinformation & ‘hate bait’ over Harry & Meghan’s Australia trip

In this week’s Gossip With Celebitchy podcast, CB and I talked about the hate campaign which sprang up around the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s planned trip to Australia. Everything coming out about this trip from Team Sussex has been “we’re visiting Oz in a private capacity, we’re doing some charity work and some paid appearances and that’s it.” That hasn’t stopped the international Deranger community from screaming, crying and throwing up about the Sussexes don’t deserve police protection and the Australian taxpayers should not be on the hook for this trip. Add to that, Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have clearly been directing a lot of fuel to this hateful fire as well. Last week, the Sussexes’ spokesperson actually clapped back on the record, reiterating that the Oz visit is being “funded privately” and calling out the stupidity of the change.org petition. Well, now a “source close to Prince Harry and Meghan” has clapped back even harder.

A source close to Prince Harry and Meghan Meghan has delivered a scathing response to the “misinformation” surrounding their upcoming trip to Australia, branding the backlash as “irrational” hate bait.

While some critics have dubbed the jaunt a “pseudo-royal” tour and a petition has circulated regarding the cost to taxpayers, the Sussexes’ camp has hit back, insisting the trip is entirely privately funded. According to those in their inner circle, the couple is heading Down Under for legitimate work and to shine a light on charitable causes like the Invictus Games – and argued that the world could use “a little more Harry and Meghan” and a little less “sad” sniping.

Someone who knows the couple tells the Mirror: “There is a lot of misinformation being spread about this trip – all designed to whip up hate. The truth is you have a couple heading down under for work. While they’re in town, they’re going to check-in on some charitable causes that they have long supported and – in the Duke’s case with the Invictus Games – he set-up. The couple are critically aware that by just visiting a charity, they can help shine a light on its work – bringing media attention that wouldn’t otherwise exist. They don’t have to do that,” the source continues.

“They could just as easily get paid and head straight back to California. It’s an irrational reaction to s***-can a couple who just want to support some of the charitable causes close to them. God forbid they try to do any good in a world that could, frankly, use a little more Harry and Meghan, and a little less sniping from ‘Royal Commentators’ who make a living by [providing] hate bait for anyone willing to platform them. It’s sad. What a way to make a living.”

Much has been made from critics that the couple seem to be operating on a basis that is not that dissimilar from the official royal tours they once undertook as working members of the House of Windsor – with the terms ‘quasi and pseudo-royal’ regularly thrown around.

[From The Daily Mirror]

If this is actually someone in the Sussexes’ camp, god bless. It feels like they’re so tired of dealing with some of the dumbest people out there. I’m not just talking about the deranged community, I’m talking about the royal commentators and the Kensington Palace clownshow too. It’s infuriating to watch these (stupid) people argue variations of “Harry and Meghan are going on a royal tour which will bilk Australians out of all of their tax dollars” while simultaneously arguing that Harry and Meghan are evil incarnate for doing commercial work and private charity work.

I’m sooooo, sooo glad to see the Sussexes’ team and “sources” pushing back on the insane hate bait. “Hate bait” is a great term for it. Yes, God bless. Wonder if it’s a “source” rather than their team on the record because of the (much deserved) profanity.

This is gold: ” God forbid they try to do any good in a world that could, frankly, use a little more Harry and Meghan, and a little less sniping from ‘Royal Commentators’ who make a living by [providing] hate bait for anyone willing to platform them. It’s sad. What a way to make a living.”

Why can’t the source that’s close to couple be named? Anyway, the main reason why the royalists and press are upset about this visit is because William and Kate refuse to do royal tours.

    • Teddy says:

I suspect it’s because the minute you’re on the record you also become a target. This is effective even without a name.

  3. Jais says:

Huh. Idk if this person is actually from the Sussex team but either way they’re not wrong. When is this trip happening again? It’s one of those things where I’m like can we just get to the fun part of the trip happening and not all this BM bullshit leading up to it. They’re gonna cry and cry and then cry some more. Boo hoo.

Last year Angela posted something awful and stupid and Wendall Pierce specifically wrote back to her on twitter and said it was a lie (about Meghan being a bad coworker etc) – he said it was a lie and she was nice to work with etc. In response to that, Angela instead of even ignoring it or acknowledging his “fact checking”, she doubled down and promoted her lie further.

We live in a world where the worst people have full ability to lie and be heard and loud and won’t be fact checked. They have this power and it somehow has to be taken from them, and people need to be better educated in terms of how to tell truth from fiction.

If this is a Sussex source fantastic, everything that they said was true. This is a business trip, that they’re trying to make into a royal trip so that they can pretend that Harry and Meghan need their association for legitimacy. They’ve been doing that for years, pretending that they want to come back to be on the balcony, get invites to Sandringham and Balmoral, and be welcomed back to family events because those are clearly bigger draws than attending movie premieres, concerts with A list celebrities, and appearing on top rated talk shows to standing ovations.

However, I’m starting to wonder if some of these sources are just actually Royal reporters and commentators saying out loud the common sense thing as it becomes more apparent that the British royal family is not a draw. It’s clear they don’t know what they’re doing, and has at their head right now someone who can’t make a decision, and the next person up to bat a hulk like rage monster. There are the true believer racists like Tom Bower and Angela Levin, but I really do feel like people like Chris Ship know the real deal and realize that they put all their eggs in the basket of being a royal commentator and there’s just nothing there.

Omid has said more than once than many “sources” are reporters themselves. Especially the lower tier tabloids. And it wouldn’t be hard to point out the obvious facts. This is clearly a business trip with some stops for charity. Harry did the same thing in Toronto and with far less of an issue.

  6. Shiela Kerr says:

The biggest problem for the gutter rats is this is a predominantly white country this couple will be visiting

  7. Nic919 says:

The UK tabloids have now resorted to attacking Sussex fans in Australia who confirmed they are attending. They are trying to make a thing about one who tweeted about the cancer being a hoax and suggested Meghan is somehow directed behind it.

Meanwhile they ignore the derangers who post racist stuff non stop and have actually been photographed with Kate.

    • bluhare says:

Both sides are as bad as the other. Ive pulled back on Harry and Meghan now too just because the discourse is so bad. Ill always be ride or die Harry but I dont participate in conversations much any more.

I totally ignore William and Kate and have for quite a while. There’s nothing to read because they dont do anything worth reading about.

The latest to-do because a fan got a ticket is ridiculous. So what. If a kate fan got a ticket to something Kate is involved in, would there be the same hue and cry? No. It probably wouldn’t be mentioned.

      Its exhausting, it really is.

  8. QuiteContrary says:

“God forbid they try to do any good in a world.”

That’s it in a nutshell. That’s all the Sussexes are trying to do and they get such heat for it. It’s gross.

  9. L4Frimaire says:

This doesn’t sound very Sussex but what they’re saying is right. The overreaction to this upcoming trio is beyond belief. Then when the Sussexes show up to wherever they’re supposed to be without any fanfare and just coming and going, they’ll complain about that too.

  10. Well-Wisher says:

The visit is a simple ‘Thank You’ for Prince Harry’s resolute response to President Trump’s insult to Commonwealth soldiers who served in recent years…
All armed forces who served along side the US and including the US armed forces have been insulted without push back.
Prince Harry was a ‘prince’ about the whole episode.
