Vickers: Princess Diana cheated on Charles before he resumed his affair with Camilla!

Within her marriage, Princess Diana had multiple affairs. She was starved for love and affection in her marriage, and she eventually began seeking out what she needed wherever she could get it. One of the biggest reasons why then-Prince Charles couldn’t or wouldn’t meet his wife’s needs was because his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles never truly ended. I tend to believe that Camilla and Charles probably hit pause for a year or two after Charles and Diana’s wedding, but the resumption of their physical affair predated Diana’s affairs with other men. Not to mention, even if Charles and Camilla weren’t having a physical affair for a time, they were absolutely having an emotional affair. He called her constantly, they would see each other often and Camilla was always around, lurking and interfering with the Wales marriage. Well, Hugo Vickers’ new biography of Queen Elizabeth II includes a completely bizarre reimagining of all of this, and wouldn’t you know, Vickers claims that Diana cheated first! Sure.

The real love story: Camilla’s husband [Andrew Parker Bowles] did not have a reputation for monogamy, and in the years before Charles’s first marriage, the prince returned to his lover. Soon, the world would get excited about Lady Diana Spencer, presenting it as a great love story, but the truth is that the real love story was Charles and Camilla. On paper, the virginal and aristocratic Lady Diana Spencer had seemed a perfect royal bride. When Charles began to contemplate her as a possible wife, he was much encouraged by his friends, including the Parker Bowleses.

Diana wanted to marry Prince Andrew: As a schoolgirl, Diana had a professed ambition: to marry her childhood playmate Prince Andrew. The truth is she hardly knew Charles, and called him ‘Sir’ until the day of their engagement.

Once Charles & Diana were married: Only in time did the problems surface – the eating disorders, the Press’s obsession with her, the suspicions about Camilla, the competition between wife and husband (she diverting attention from what he perceived as his vital work). Which came first – the illness or the unhappiness? The Queen came to find her tiresome. She thought things went wrong as the result of illness. It is possible that it was the other way around. One thing is sure: Prince Charles could not cope with her.

Prince Harry’s birth: The birth of Prince Harry in 1984 marked a watershed moment in the fast-declining marriage. Prince Charles emerged from the hospital and told the waiting crowd that he would soon have enough boys for a polo team. He then headed off to play polo. Diana suffered a severe bout of post-natal depression.

Diana & Barry Mannakee: Soon afterwards, the Waleses went up to Scotland to stay with Anne, Duchess of Westminster. During their stay, Charles went out to do some salmon fishing, while Diana read a book nearby. At some point, she put her book down and took a walk along the riverbank. Unaware of where she was, Charles cast – and caught Diana just above her eye with his fly, which had to be cut off. That day, her number three detective, 37-year-old Barry Mannakee, was on duty. It was he who accompanied the injured princess back to the house. She did not need to go to hospital, but she needed sympathy – and Mannakee gave it. Back in London, her regular protection team soon noticed a change in her behaviour whenever she was in Mannakee’s company, and became concerned about the implications. In due course, more and more of the people surrounding her started to notice that there appeared to be something going on between the two of them. Finally, her regular protection officers decided they had no choice but to confront her – a difficult conversation to have, but one they hoped could be resolved discreetly.

Diana admitted the affair: Although Diana at first denied she was having an affair, she eventually admitted it. Alarmed, the protection officers pointed out that Mannakee – who had married at 19 in 1966 – had a wife and two daughters. Continuing this inappropriate relationship, they stressed, would present inevitable dangers to her and to her reputation. The affair continued. The best solution, the protection officers decided, was to arrange for Mannakee to be transferred to non-royal duties – but they faced resistance from Charles, who liked the officer and wanted to keep him on.

Mannakee was the third person in Diana’s marriage!! Afterwards, his affair with Diana continued for a while, then petered out due to the complications involved in keeping it going. The princess moved on. It was the Mannakee affair that caused Charles to conclude that his marriage had ‘irretrievably broken down’, as he told Jonathan Dimbleby on camera in 1994. Realising his marriage had no future, he eventually rekindled his relationship with Camilla. This puts a different perspective on her infamous Panorama interview. When she told Martin Bashir that there were three people in the marriage, there were indeed three – but the third person at the start was Mannakee, not Mrs Parker Bowles.

Mannakee died soon after he was separated from Diana: The Mannakee affair had a tragic postscript. On May 15, 1987, he was killed while riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by PC Stephen Peet, which collided with a car at Woodford in east London. When Charles told Diana about Mannakee’s death – while they were flying to Monaco – she was desperately upset. Later, she came to believe his death was the result of a conspiracy by those around her – that he had, in effect, been killed for her own protection. This was grossly unfair.

Well, that certainly answers some questions I had about Vickers’ sourcing. Straight out of Charles and Camilla’s playbook, just like the old days when Camilla would take royal reporters out to lunch and tell them what was happening in Charles and Diana’s marriage. I’m sure some younger people will be intrigued by this reimagining, but many of us know the real story and/or we were around when all of this stuff went down originally. After all of these years, what does it matter, right? Diana’s dead, Camilla won, she’s wearing the crown. That’s why it’s funny and sad though – clearly, Charles and Camilla know that even after all of these years, their support is a mile wide and an inch deep. Diana is the ghost at the banquet. So they’ve decided to just continue smearing a dead woman.

Diana was asked point blank by settelen if she had an affair with m a n a k e e. She said no. Also. Charles joined the hunt club where Camilla was a member. He and Camilla met up there while Diana was home having bad morning sickness during pregnancy with scooter. I don’t believe Charles stopped intimacy with Camilla. Janet Jenkins gave an interview and she admitted her affair with Charles during the early eighties.diana did not want to marry Andrew but her family thought it would be a good match. Vickers is giving fake news

  2. Tessa says:

The queen finding Diana tiresome makes The queen look monstrous The sycophant Vickers. Diana was not around when Charles rekindled the relationship with married Camilla in 1978. Charles admitted it in interviews with dimbleby. The marriage was irretrievably broken down by charles from the get go. Diana said point blank she had no affair with m a n n a k e e.on the settelen tapes

    • Amy Bee says:

I can understand the Queen being unsympathetic to Diana considering her own experience of being in an arranged marriage with a husband who cheated on her. Her thinking would be why can’t Diana just get on with it like me.

  3. Jais says:

Omfg. This is a hack job. So now Diana had apparently wanted to marry Andrew? What??? Nope to all this. Charles was the cheater of all cheaters and Diana was the teenager he chose to marry and then treated like dirt while he stayed close with Camilla. This book is stait-up revisionist fantasy.

  4. Amy Bee says:

How are Charles and Camilla the love story when he also seeing Kanga?

  5. Hypocrisy says:

Princess Diana lost her life because of people like this author and almost three decades later they are still outright lying about her life to use her as a deflection and somehow in their warped sick mind this will make C&C disgusting behavior acceptable, it doesn’t. Let Princess Diana rest in peace it’s bad enough that these people tormented her right up to the point where they the killed her but the fact that they are still doing it decades later shows you just how awful the king and his heir are, they absolutely allow this because when they need distractions and have no shame hiding behind a woman who’s death the firm/brf is responsible for.

  6. Shiela Kerr says:

Those gutter rats live in the past. Now they have unearthed Princess Diana to once again smear her name. And they constantly write about the Sussexes from 2020. Apparently, they must believe if you write something enough people will believe it. Charles has proven himself to be grotesque and an awful parent. Nothing they write will change this. When many think of Charles and Camilla, you think of a young virgin bride Diana and tampongate

  7. Tessa says:

. Janet Jenkins also talked of her affair with Charles.

  8. Tessa says:

OK, so if Diana “confessed” according to Vickers she was having an affair with Mannakee how come this so called information was not in other books about Diana (there is no such evidence). . Diana never made any such confession. If the Settlelen tapes have not been removed from the Internet, it can be found that Diana says she had no affair with Mannakee. Even Seward backtracked when Diana said there was no affair. Seward claimed there was an affair with Mannakee (but left out the “confession” fake story) then when the tapes came out, she said there was no affair. Does Vickers do any research or does he just parrot Charles sycophants and bots on social media? Charles is made to look like a “saint” even though he actually broke up the Parker Bowles marriage by confessing that Camilla was his mistress (and on international TV). I guess Vickers is catering to the gullible or the sycophants making Charles a “saint.” Charles behavior is very evident and he learned nothing, he is doing the same to Harry and Meghan now. Diana never “professed” she wanted to marry Andrew. Her family thought they would be a good match, not Diana. Viickers also ignores the Morton book and what Diana actually said. Charles should be ashamed of himself apparently condoning the hatchet job by Vickers on his late ex wife and the mother of his children.

  9. Scar❤️❤️❤️❤️ says:

Such a LIE!! We all know he never got off that old horse!

  10. Lover says:

That marriage broke down because Charles is a selfish, jealous, narcissistic pud who preferred a manipulative horse-faced smokebag to a charismatic, free-spirited star who was too young and too beautiful for him by miles. RIP Diana, may your haters tear themselves apart forever.

  11. Tis True, Tis True says:

This just goes to show that Charles and Camilla (and their supporters) know that they did wrong. So much so that they are still having to cover it up over 40 years later.

  12. YankeeDoodles says:

Note one detail: “ Charles cast – and caught Diana just above her eye with his fly, which had to be cut”…. Such a tragedy, having to cut your fly. If you fish, that is like, dude, that’s some sh*t. LOL. Never mind it could have cost his young wife her eye. These people. Like the Queen wanting to race her horses the day after she was told Diana had died, when her horse manager had already withdrawn them, to her evident surprise. They are …..useless. Callous. Entitled. Dim witted. Etc. TUMBRIL TIME.

  13. L4Frimaire says:

No one is going to like Kween Camilla more because of this. All these royal biographies flop so much because they only regurgitate or make up gossip. There is no analysis of what this did to the monarchy or where they’re at now. It’s all trying to score points against who they think wronged them, never addressing their shortcomings, ineptitude and profligacy, or the broader picture of their place in this world we’re in now. It’s all BS.

  14. Elly says:

The gutter rats turned “authors” continue to try to rewrite history. The facts are that Charles had an affair with Camilla when she was a married woman and Diana was a virgin when she married Charles. We also know that Charles did continue his emotional relationship with Camilla after his marriage to Diana.

  15. Inge says:

She gave birth and he went off to play polo.

He injured his wife & then did not accompany her back to the house

Even without the affairs and awful husband

    • Blair Warner says:

Well, exactly! Can you imagine how hurt and scared she would have been, to have a fishhook stuck in her face near her eye ?! With no sympathy or understanding from her husband. He probably blamed her for being in the wrong place and wasting his fishing supplies. I know the type.

I will defend Diana for the next fifty years if I have to.

  16. Tessa says:

Once Diana and Charles got married. the problems became evident. Charles being jealous of how the public took to Diana and being self pitying about it; the calls he made to Camilla (confirmed by Charles Valet, Stephen Barry); Charles lacking understanding of how Diana was stressed which brought on eating disorder (Charles knew about eating disorders he was dating Sarah Spencer when she had anorexia and apparently did not treat this with contempt)

Did Vickers actually think it a “good t hing” when Charles left Diana and Harry home after taking them home from the hospital to go and play polo? Charles obviously did not want more children with Diana when he moaned that the second child was a boy not the daughter he wanted. Apparently he would not “try” for the girl and have more children with her.

No Vickers, there were three people in the marriage from the time Charles brought Diana to visit the Parker Bowles and presented Camilla as the “safe” married friend.

  17. tamsin says:

In addition to Harry and Meghan, they have now added two dead women, the late Queen and Diana to their current smear list. There are no words for how awful the BM and Charles, William, and Camilla are. They are so petty, so inadequate, so lacking, so unlikeable, so worthy of contempt.

  18. Mrs.Krabapple says:

I don’t put it past the royals to have killed that guy. Not to protect Diana, but Charles (it’s ok for him to have an affair, but he can’t be seen as a cuckhold)

    • Tessa says:

I think the danger was that he may have known too much about the marriage. I very much doubt Diana cheated on him.

    • Tessa says:

Diana did move on in 1986 and was with single partners like Hewitt and later, Khan. The two men were in no danger apparently. Supposedly Charles was relieved when Diana took up with Hewitt and he could pursue Camilla.

  19. bisynaptic says:

Diana was in love with Charles; Charles wasn’t in love with Diana, he was using her as a broodmare. Whether or not she cheated first is irrelevant.

    • Tessa says:

It to me is relevant, it is dishonoring Diana posthumously. Diana got the word out that she did not have an affair with Mannakee. I believe her. I searched the Internet and found the references to Diana saying NO when Settelen asked her if she slept with Mannakee. Charles himself admitted he began an affair with Married Camilla in 1978. Which had nothing to do with Diana. Charles already had a pattern of behavior.

  20. Paisley25 says:

What about the other women Charles was sleeping with? Lady Dale Tyrone and I think another titled lady who had an estate where he fished a lot?

    • Blubb says:

And Janet Jenkins who said they had an affair from 1970 to 1992.
Interestingly she was in the docu “The boy who walked alone” at the coronation as a former girlfriend saying how nice he is.
Not mentioned the article where she said she slept with Charles in Highgrove in 1992 after Diana left – but what about Camilla?
And in an even earlier article I only have Screenshots of she said she met Charles in 1983 in Highgrove and had unprotected sex with him. She then had a son about nine month later.

  21. Blubb says:

And in no way any security officer would confront his protégé about their private life. Who are they to ask about it? And if why did nobody asl Andrew about his behaviour?

    • Tessa says:

Is Vickers going to include how much Andrew’s family knew? And why his mother paid 12 million if Andrew “never met” Virginia G.. Nope, the focus should be on trashing Diana and the Sussexes apparently.

  22. Mayp says:

Charles has been lying about his relationship with Camilla from the beginning. I believe this stems from Prince Philip’s purported caution to him to stay faithful to Diana for 5 years and if, after that time, it’s still not working then he can sow his seed elsewhere. Charles, in later years, has always been careful to try to indicate that he didn’t resume a physical relationship with Camilla until after the 5-year period. I think this was to benefit Philip.

I also think that he is one of those disgusting people that uses the excuse that anything short of coitus is not sex. Also, an emotional affair is a betrayal just like a physical affair.

I am just disgusted that Charles and Camilla are having their lackey totally try to not only change history but besmirch Diana’s memory as well.

    • Tessa says:

I don’t think he listened to Philip.

      • Mayp says:

Of course Charles didn’t listen to Philip. The point I was trying to make, and sorry if I didn’t make this clear, was that Charles was lying about his relationship with Camilla so that he wouldn’t get in trouble with Prince Philip for not even bothering to comply with the 5-year rule. I think Charles was afraid of whose side Philip would take. Remember, for a long time Prince Philip liked and corresponded with Diana. Would Philip have opened a can of whoop ass on Charles and, especially, Camilla? Charles is a liar and an effing coward.

  23. Mary grace says:

Charles and Camilla slept together the night before the wedding to Diana so explain how Diana cheated first exactly?

  24. Sherry says:

Poor Diana will never be allowed to rest in peace.

  25. QuiteContrary says:

“Prince Charles emerged from the hospital and told the waiting crowd that he would soon have enough boys for a polo team. He then headed off to play polo. Diana suffered a severe bout of post-natal depression.”

Charles had wanted a girl. So his wife delivers a boy; he makes an unfunny comment about a polo team; and then goes off to play polo.

He’s a real Prince Charming, that guy.

I don’t believe this Mannakee story one bit — Diana denied it — but I hope she found whatever love and happiness she could. No wonder she had postpartum depression.

  26. jferber says:

I don’t know why William wouldn’t strenuously deny this insult and fallacy about his own mother, for God’s sake. But he pretty much escaped her beneficial influence, whereas Harry has become the true heir of the better monarch, Princess Diana (and not Prince Charles). Willy already called her paranoid and he acts like no son of hers. He is Charles’ son only. Where Charles is wishy-washy and hard-working (yes, he’s still a murderer), Willy is a hostage to his overwhelming jealousy, hatred and vindictiveness. He is hellbent on destroying Harry’s reputation and (I suspect), even ending Harry’s life. Willy’s only steadfast “work” is hating on his relatives and trying to make their lives miserable in every way possible. He quits on all his other causes: homelessness, peace in the Middle East, preserving the Earth and being an adequate diplomat. He is dedicated to none of that, but only dedicates himself to ill-will, envy, anger, revenge, getting his own way, etc.. basically choosing evil over good. He is a disastrous prince and will be a disastrous king. No intervention to improve him in any way has ever worked and will never work.
