Several weeks back, when the new Archbishop of Canterbury was being installed, I mentioned something which I’ve noticed more often in recent years: many “royal events” keep being pushed back further and further in the day. Ten years ago or so, it was quite common for a Commonwealth Day service or basically any church service or memorial event to start in the mid or late morning GMT. Nowadays, it’s extremely rare for any of those services to start before 2 pm, and usually it’s closer to 3 pm or 4 pm. It’s so odd. My theory is that it’s centered on Prince William and how he can’t or won’t leave the house before noon. Prince Sleeping It Off, Prince Too Hungover To Work.
I bring up all of my “noticing” and “theorizing” because Saturday was Anzac Day, a day recognizing the contributions of Australia and New Zealand’s military. It should be a can’t-miss date for the current king and the future king. Both King Charles and Prince William skipped any and all Anzac Day events, possibly because they’re always scheduled well before noon. Charles sent his sister to lay a wreath. William sent his wife to do the same and attend the morning service. Prince I’m Not Going To Roll Out Of Bed Before Noon On Saturday.
Kate wore a bespoke Catherine Walker coat in a dark navy, with white lapels. She coordinated with diamonds and sapphires, from Big Blue (her engagement ring) to her pendant necklace and earrings. She looked fine, albeit very stewardess-esque. Is that something inherent about Kate, or are these coats just giving off stewardess vibes? Little from column A, little from column B. From certain angles, she’s also giving off a Cruella de Keen vibe. That doll wig!!
Kate’s presence at the Anzac Day service was announced soon after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Australian tour – it gave a whiff of “I respect Australia toooooo, pay attention to me!” And even with that energy, Australia’s future king still didn’t show up. Prince Harry showed much more respect and deference to Australia’s military sacrifices than his brother. It’s just a fact.

The wig hanging down her back. The outfit looks like a cap and gown.
That wig seriously looks like it’s attached to the hat. I mean, my God…
I also have a theory: jewels worn = approval/reward from W/KP. Big Blue engagement ring is worn on W/KP approved engagements. Matching set of Big Blue or QE2 tiara/jewellery box = this is your reward for toeing the line and making up appearances of happy future monarch couple or doing an event for the team.
Back to her old style as the woman who used to dress her – and who used to follow Meghan – left. Frumpy Kate is back….
A headline we’ve seen how many times over the years, “Kate wore a Catherine Walker coatdress” … yawn …
Woman, cut your gd hair!
I really hate coat dresses.
You never see them in Australia.
As far as I’m aware.
That dress is truly awful, as is the mop attached to her real hair. She’s stuck in her little girl phase. A shorter, sophisticated haircut, some beautiful tailored pantsuits, some vibrance, some articulation, some real energy and genuineness and she would show up the rest of those losers. But that’s never going to happen. She has never evolved.
Agreed, despite the press constantly trying to tell us that she does.
We’ve kind of gotten into the habit of dissing K just because. I’m going to remind us that KING CHARLES has said he prefers long hair on women. No matter what anyone says, she is doing it for him. To curry favour with him. He probably has to protect her from his son’s most violent rages.
In terms of her clothes, bottom line is she looks good compared to how she looked when she was trying to copy Meghan. Nothing worked then. We must remember for her, these coat dresses and stuff are a COSTUME. I assume they are not her, per se. She’s dressed for the role, and her peeps are happy with her.
Yes, she’s all the things we often say about her, but when push comes to shove, she’s still a person. When all we do is diss, we become too much like the derangers for my comfort. This is my opinion.
She should continue to dress like this… it is her style; instead of copying and pasting Queen Meghan’s style!
The only thing I can say here is NEXT
LOL you said everything I wanted to but MUCH more succinctly! Thank you for that.
I think she started to wear these long train coats because her shoulder to hip ratio is crazy and she wants to hide her body. She needs help but sadly has no one. I always think kate is unevolved child of narcissist. Because her upbringing is typical to narcissist mother. I have same minus money but it took my long time to see what is going on. One of the reason where kate doesn’t have any friends ( pippa and james too) because narcissist mother doesn’t want independent daughter or children. Kate is people pleaser and push over. She got pushed around by her mother now by William. Also many people asked by kate doesn’t leave William etc you are looking from healthy point of view. For kate William being abusely or disrespecting her is normal because her mother doesn’t respect her or she has any boundaries. This is normal for her , unhealthy for healthy people. That’s why she will never leave she will only woke up when carole dies. That’s when things got very interesting.
That’s why none of the middleton children craved their own path and all circling around their mommy as adult
@zai, completely agree about daughter of narcissistic mother. I imagine the spectrum of narcissistic mothers will evolve.
I experienced the same. With my first husband, I couldn’t handle the rejection so I wanted to *get* him, even though he wasn’t good for me. It took a long time for that sick desperate longing to die and I didn’t have to deal with being rejected on a public national/global stage
That’s an interesting perspective and explains a lot. Sorry that it’s through hard life experience.
@Lucy, thank you for your sympathy.
I will tell you that relationships are confusing and rejection is intolerable and a constant feeling of drowning.
Am also highly irritable and have trouble learning, doing anything is exhausting, and learning is difficult.
@zai Also concurring with your assessment. I’d posit her relationship with her mother is giving enmeshed golden child vibes.
@Kaiser:
“are these coats just giving off stewardess vibes?” Mais oui! Just call her Princess Doors to Manual.
Doors to manual
Those brave men traveled half a world away to fight in trench combat. TRENCH COMBAT. They were over represented in the deaths of Gallipoli. This should be an “unmovable feast day” in their calendar. Shame on the Tampon and Peg
Double shame for sending this unserious woman instead.
‘Royal’ family continues to be despicable.
Stewardess? Is she cosplaying her own mother now?
Anyway, I just want to point out that the cope on that priest (?) is stunning. Gorgeous shade of blue, exquisite embroidery!
My mom used to embroider stoles and altar coverings for our Episcopal church. Metalwork and embroidery are fun for some people (myself included, although I don’t have time for it). If you want to learn it, the Royal School of Needlework has online, self-paced classes (unfortunately, not cheap) where they send you a kit and you follow along.
Oh, and I think this is another Alexander McQueen. At this point they have her old measurements, which probably work *well enough* with her new measurements, and they just send her lookbooks and she chooses something like this. No need for the embarrassment of trying it on before it arrives.
Also, chef’s kiss to “Cruella de Keen” and “Doors to Manual.”
Thats’s all I’ve got.
I wasn’t really paying attention, but did notice I didn’t see any articles about William or Charles. I figured Charles wouldn’t come because the state visit begins tomorrow, so he’s probably preparing for that with Camilla. Can’t really see why William didn’t come though. All he did this week is sit in a race car, and a birthday party. He’s not going to the state visit, and he’s already briefed that he doesn’t plan to do any work so he won’t be a ” distraction”, next week.
Also, there’s not many people behind the crowd control barrier when Kate is being welcomed out of the car is it? There used to be at least small crowds at these events right? I wonder if William was throwing a tantrum because of Harry being in Ukraine, and because they figured there would be no crowds to do a comparison of interest. Either way, they are just making all of this look incredibly irrelevant, which is sad and disrespectful to the intentions of these events.
Sometimes I wish she’d keep the original design of some of these outfits. The coat (AMcQ by Burton) was actually really nice with the grey lapels and at the waist and wven the hat in its original design looked good and didn’t really need the adjustment.
With regards to the timing tjat Kaiser was mentioning, I think it might have more to do with the fact that 3pm/4pm has more people out and about as opposed to earlier in the day when people are in their offices or workplaces. The announcements would then just be made on the local news platforms and radio stations as people are on the way home (just a theory)
Also, can I ask, am I the only one who thinks the commonwealth day outfit might have worked better here and this one on commonwealth day? It was a genuinely warm day here in the U.K. yesterday.
This is one of the ugliest coatdresses I’ve ever seen. I hate the pointy white collar lapels and heavily padded shoulders. To me the fit looks shapeless as a garbage bag. I disliked the turquoise one in same cut and the grey almost identical one she wore to welcome the Nigerian president was equally bad. Wish the eighties claimed these monstrosities back.
She’s positively skeletal.
Yes. And in these profile pictures you can really see the scar / dent on her left temple. Count me in as someone who believes that something happened in late December 2023.
Was just coming to comment on the scar.
ANZAC day is sacred in Australia.
There are only three public holidays where absolutely no shops are open, not even the grocery stores. They are Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day.
Given that Australians basically went to war for England in WW1 and our boys were pretty much used as cannon fodder by the Brits, it’s beyond offensive the King and future King of Australia didn’t show up to pay their respects.
Yes, 💯- nothing is more sacred to Australians.
Exactly both should have attended and it nodes ill that FK continues to be self-indulgent and not honour the sacrifices of others whether it is VJ or ANZAC day. Why couldn’t he do his duty for a few hours even though it was a pleasant Saturday? Who is advising this Muppet that it is acceptable to not show up AND not even explain why? Does he want the duties and responsibilities of Kingship or just the goodies?
AND there’s a dawn service in every city and town no matter how small. All major suburbs of the cities have their own dawn service too. People turn out in their thousands at these events.
No matter what, Kate will never ever be a fashion icon. Her clothes wear her and not the other way around. It has nothing to do with figure size either. Added to this is her lack of enthusiasm and/or love for her role/work (which is a privilege) and it comes through at all these appearances and thus, why the vast majority of people are bored to death with her appearances. She has no God given “wow” factor when wearing clothes (I’m looking at you Queen Maxima and Queen Rania and Queen Lazia) and no love for her work and so we have BLAH KATE. I only lament all the beautiful jewels that will go wasted on her.
the jewelry feels off with the time of day, the purpose of the engagement, the rest of her outfit. I feel like she does this a lot. she just matches colors like garanimals and off she goes.
I was just thinking, why is she wearing such ostentatious jewelry to such a solemn event? (Doesn’t she own a pair of studs?) Surely her appearance should be more sober and not so ‘look at meeee’! Also, her doll hair is as ridiculous as ever.
Given it’s a memorial event pearls would have been a better choice then blue stones
It’s a little too bling-y IMO for this event. This is where a nice simple pearl necklace would have been appropriate.
I’ll give her a pass for not busting out a high fashion look for a serious event. But yes, where’s Willy? His absence is glaring. ( I don’t like her look but recalling the pink extravaganza at the 9/11 memorial I vote for boring!)
Kate’s outfit was boring. She needs some variation in her styling.
I don’t see why she can’t find suitable contemporary business suits for events.
Not everything needs to be 1940s cosplay.
The outfit was predictable. I mentioned in the last slim coats with wide bios that we’ll now have many color versions of such coats, because it’s clear Kate has new hip-shaping designs, perhaps along with her bust (it’s worn like a vest), and she’ll now she will wear versions of his coat, because its cut is adapted to this figure-shaping insert.
…and those handbags…! Since Meghan, she’s started carrying small handbags, but they always look awkward. She completely fails at carrying them. Often, her purses are unfastened or turned front to back. She can’t handle them; they’re a waste of her life. She should go back to clutches.
Re the handbags. In her position she does not need a bag. She has people following her around who will carry anything she needs. So they have to add something to the look/outfit and hers just never do (and that’s skipping over the radical change in style of bag since 2018).
It’s because that’s Carol’s style of dressing, 1980s are us.
KM must be completely dominated by her mother.
I like this color, but this outfit is as bad as the gray flight attendant outfit she wore a few weeks ago. I’m actually surprised that she was sent and no one else showed that is rather insulting to all the Australians and New Zealanders and makes Peggy look horrible. I wonder if Australia and New Zealand are reporting on this and pointing out what an absolute insult this is, or do they follow the rota propaganda rules?
Her jewelry is beautiful but I got over matched sets worn all at once a very long time ago, it is all to “matched” and that makes it look like she has over accessorized.
The jewelry is actually worse then matching, the earrings are Diana’s sapphires but the necklace is a modern tanzanite. The more you look the more off the pairing is
Kkkate Jewelry always looks like from Claire’s.
SHE IS SO BASIC.
@Tiny – that’s Carol for you, Claire’s for u16s.
It’s time the press called Carol out: as sure as God made little green apples, so you can be sure Carol receives some sort of remuneration for services as KM’s stylist.
Is this the woman whose style our duchess was supposedly copying? Which of the middle eastern airlines is she flying long haul for again?
Just my theory, but every.single.outfit she wears pairs a high waistline with high heels. She’s tall enough that she doesn’t need super-high heels. The high waist is either a belt, elastic/gathering high up in the back (that blue plaid coat) or self-fabric. She has a very long torso and legs that look short by comparison, so this combination lengthens her legs visually. Coat dresses would accomplish this design goal without putting a lot of thought into it or, maybe worse, getting measured for a totally new design/style.
This is a slap in the face to Australia and New Zealand whose men and women took up arms on behalf of Britain and thousands lost their lives. I can understand to some degree Charles not going as he’s off to the USA tomorrow, but William? It’s a bloody big insult. And what do they send instead? Someone who can’t do the job, can’t hold a conversation, and looks like she’s playing dress up. And all that will be written in the press is what she wore, Nothing about the sacrifice of ANZAC men and women.
Just FYI, I am not Australian or New Zealand, I’m Canadian but I have done considerable research on the ANZAC Contribution in World War II (I study WWII) and I know what they did and what it cost them. I’m furious on their behalf . For anyone interested look up for example Kokoda Trail, and Lau. The memory of those people and their huge contribution doesn’t deserve this treatment.
Thanks tea girl. It is indeed our most solemn public ceremony. It is sacred. I can recall how important it was from the time I was a child at school. Of course, it has devolved into a PR stunt for politicians and assorted public figures, including the royals.
Anzac Day was to remember our Anzacs who got slaughtered at Gallipoli – which is why many young people make the pilgrimage to Turkey. We now have the ceremony in France too, which I believe Charles attended at the inaugural one. But the day has evolved to remember all our veterans. And yes, shame on William – he is our next King, and head of state, not Kate.
American, and I had the opportunity to visit Gallipoli late last year. The site is humbling, and the Turks do an incredible job of maintaining it.
The ANZACs made huge sacrifices in WWI too. Plus they were all volunteers
Yes, that was when the slaughter at Gallipoli happened. Churchill was the First Lord of the Admiralty at the time.
This is something that the UK press and all media should really slam William for not attending. Really slam him – big Fail.
For God’s sake, when is someone going to make W start earning his £23m a year?
I guess long coat dresses are her new thing? How boring. And the extensions are out of control. Long hair is fine but those extensions and curls are not working.
Her shorter coat dresses always look awful twee after she gets done with them.
Is this the same event where they usually wear black on the balcony? So Kate this year came down to lay a wreath?
No, that one is Armistice Day in November.
Anzac Day: Royals lay wreaths to remember war dead – BBC News https://share.google/CZ2tjp1s94fxW10yV
This from 25 April 2018 note photo of William kissing cheek of Meghan. Also Will ‘s third child had just been born and yet Will turned up the church service so he made an effort to attend when he should have been on paternity leave!? Was he expected to attend? Anybody remember the background to his appearance at this church service?
I think the circumstances are obvious; he was there for Meghan. William NEVER greeted family members like that. NEVER. If there were any greetings, they were symbolic pecks in the air. However, he greeted Meghan so emotionally that I felt his hands were shaking. There are also photos from that day from the church, of William sitting next to Meghan, and his eyes almost popped out because he directed at her intensively
He’d always been fascinated by her, so it must have been a huge shock for him to see her in the palace as Harry’s girlfriend.
You know, Africa is mine, Herald, and Meghan too, and then he heard her say, “Get that finger off my face.” 🤣
It’s a close journey from lust to hatred.
Thanks @Black Elderberry for the context. Kaiser often uses THAT photo of the three of them seated together for 2018 service: him staring at her intently whilst she’s focused on Harry who’s looking down at his service sheet. I bet Kate gave him hell when she saw the coverage of him gluing himself to this about to be married couple when he was neglecting his own wife and newborn son!!
He was not expected to attend – he was a last-minute addition. I think he decided to attend because he found out that Meghan was attending, and most importantly, because he would outrank Harry. Almost as though he wanted to emphasise that. Treat them badly behind the scenes but pretend to be nice in public. As I recall, Meghan looked genuinely surprised by that greeting kiss. He could not stomach being at home with Kate and his newborn while Harry and Meghan got the headlines on that day.
She looks fine. Truly. It’s fine. It’s her thing. Now, are the stewardess vibes wrong in this one, yes, yes they are. Does the moniker of Cruella de Keen make me laugh? Yes, yes it does.
I think she looks fine, lovely even. She always does. It’s her character that reeks. I mean. You can wear nice clothes, but if you have no soul, they hang on you like a ghoul’s trailing flannels. I can give her credit for showing up to this, but, again, they do engagements so rarely that when they do deign to appear, it’s all about *them* and it pulls focus from the event. It takes some talent as a member of the monarchy to reflect the glory of others, when the spotlight is always on you, but the trick is just showing up, so your presence is a kind of benediction. I mean. The late Queen was brilliant at this. She was self-effacing, but she always showed up. And she had presence. She had gravitas. You can only be a person without presence (like Kate), who makes an impact, if you show up consistently. You don’t have to have charisma if you are reliable. I cannot believe that William skipped the ANZAC service. Just…. This plus VJ Day. I mean. JFC. WTF.
I don’t like her dress (coat?) but I 100% would wear the Archibishop’s velvet cape-y thing.
William was probably still pouting about Harry’s visit to Ukraine. William just cannot get out of his own way.
He absolutely should have attended.
Sigh. So many colors of blue that don’t complement each other. She tries so hard to wear a monochromatic look but gets it wrong every single time.
Hideous 80’s long shapeless coat dress and seriously ugly hat. And she sure loves a pointy lapel lately doesn’t she?
Forget the hideous clothes and 90s matchy matchy jewellery; we celebrate Anzac Day with sprigs of rosemary, not poppies. They couldn’t even get that right.
This is to reply to @Gaylene, that is amazing, thank you for context. I mean. All these occasions are purely ceremonial, which means, duh, if you get the details wrong, there’s not much point. Egads. Every time you think you’ve plumbed the depths with WanK it positively gets more foul. They are the ultimate little Engländers. Elizabeth II was really sincere about the Commonwealth, of which, correct me if I’m wrong, Australia and New Zealand are members. I mean. She slapped down Margaret Thatcher pretty definitively over sanctions in apartheid South Africa. She was so diplomatic that when she took off the gloves, it was not about “sending a signal” it was more like an eradication, to cite Edith Wharton. I mean. These people just do not make the commitment to serve that she did, or that Charles did. WTF is the point of them?????
Kate looks like she’s cosplaying a military uniform. Too bad that only Harry actually fought in a war and was a soldier for ten years. William, like Trump would NEVER. And both “men” have insulted soldiers by not turning up at important events or saying non-American soldiers did not fight on the front line. Old Bone Spurs and Lazy Willy are a pair matched in hell.
Unfortunately, Kate doesn’t have anyone to advise her concerning style and fashion. Miss Archer used Kate to create the playbook for her now-fashion company. The thought that Meghan wanted Kate’s fashion contacts is laughable.
While William was ridiculing Harry for seeking therapy, he should have joined him. Harry has developed, while William continues to deteriorate through association with old school courtiers, washed-up journalists, and secret admirers.
Anyway, British media and derangers squawk about the cost of Meghan’s wardrobe and jewelry, but never about the future taxpayer-funded Queen. YAWN.
