I did not expect this to pop up today. When Prince Harry was in New York last month, he stopped by GQ’s offices and sat down with GQ’s Zach Baron for the magazine’s “One More Question” feature. The first part of the interview is Harry talking about the move to the UK and why they chose this moment and what the move has been like so far. Harry ends up confirming several narratives and gossip storylines in the British press, including that story that Harry feels strongly about British education and he wanted his kids to go to school in Britain. He confirms that the move wasn’t exactly planned out months in advance, which is something I’ve believed this whole time- that they basically decided to move back to the UK after their July visit. He also said, in so many words, that the political situation in America influenced the decision.
Baron also asked Harry about his rifts with his father and brother, and Harry said, in part: “Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out. With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile—that’s the key point. Scars stick around forever. But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past. That’s something that I would encourage everybody to do: If there’s certain things from the past that are still affecting you every day, that’s harder to let go of. But, for me, there’s enough drama in the world and enough drama in people’s lives to continue with issues with family.” I assume the “some people don’t want to work it out” is about Prince William. This is Harry forcing the moment to its crisis on multiple fronts.

It’s the hope that kills you. Diana knew all of it was a lost cause – Charles, William, the whole kit & caboodle. I think the late Queen knew it, too. What’s the point, really? I mean… it’s the kind of thing that, once you snap the thread, it’s instantly obvious how absurd it is. Harry’s like the silver lining of a very dark cloud. But I hope he sees how pointless it is to save people who won’t save themselves. And what kind of life is that for his kids, hostages to this rescue mission????
I think he gets a chance to try once more, and definitely gets a chance to reclaim his country. I hope it doesn’t end catastrophically. But like — if this little experiment doesn’t work out, he’s gotta peace out of the rats nest.
Harry is so like Diana, but he has many things that she did not: 1. He is royal by blood and Diana–despite her incredible lineage–was a married in; 2. He lived long enough to implement his therapy; 3. He had the military and an incredible partner help him see work arounds to the issues of financial strings, housing options, security alternatives, and family dysfunctions. Being a tall, handsome, white male definitely has it privileges: when he says he is grieving and hurt, he is considered brave rather than weak.
That’s such an interesting point. They could “de-royal” Diana because though she was an aristocrat, she married in. They’ve been trying the same playbook on Harry and it doesn’t work because … if he’s arbitrarily no longer Royal, as a legitimate son of the king, what does being Royal even mean? Is it magic blood or not?
Oh My Goodness @AR ~ what if they decide to pretend those rumours are TRUE and then claim Harry is NOT king Charles bio kid, and thus, not royal at all. OMG WHAT A CAN OF WORMS THAT COULD OPEN, eh?! It would be the answer to all their problems. Even if it wasn’t true, it would be so satisfying for wicked people if the king said he knew all along the child wasn’t his. It would be his excuse for ALL the abuses Harry experienced growing up, and then again after he met Meghan. WOW ~ new conspiracy theory or what, eh? OMG SMDH But still, @AR, you raised the question of is it magic blood or not. So to claim H’s is not, would be just like evicting them from Frogmore only a gazillion times worse.
Gail, for what it’s worth, they could also say the same thing about Prince Andrew and the youngest Wales child, Louis – the difference in the latter case being that the mother is not a born royal, but only has her royal status due to marriage. Oh, what a can of worms this would open eh?
Dude will not learn. Wonder what it will take.
@Gail: they can claim that all day & all night, but a simple DNA test would clear up that nonsense.
People assume that a DNA test wasn’t already done. Do you really believe that? I’m willing to bet my hard earned money there’s already been a DNA done on Harry, probably at birth.
Plus (we’ve been through this so many times!) the timing does not add up — at least when people are talking about the ginger horse guy Diana supposedly had a fling with (can’t remember his name) — and Harry looks EXACTLY like a young Prince Philip.
I understand his need to reconcile with his father, considering the fact he’s terminally ill… but his brother? Really? That nutjob? Harry, move on with your life, that crazy man will never change!
When it comes to Bully, I believe H is showing that on his part, its all ‘que sera, sera.’ Meanwhile, it invites every sentient being to take another look at all the incandescent, rage-filled descriptions about Bully, coming from his nearest and dearest.
I kind of think what he’s saying is that he wants…..peace. He doesn’t want the drama surrounding his brother. he wants to be able to show up at a charity event in the UK without William melting down to the tabloids for a week. But he can’t control that.
I had a very……dramatic….relationship with my sister, and the time I had the most peace in that relationship was when I knew I had done what i needed to do to protect my mental health, and she couldn’t touch me anymore. I was able then to see her once or twice a year and say “hi how are you” and then move on. She no longer impacted my life. I think that’s where Harry is with William. It’s not about being BFFs or something (which they never were.)
I could have written that last paragraph myself. Exactly. For me it was about letting go of the toxic relationship, but still behaving like a grown adult when I am in my sister’s presence several times a year. I would think that is Harry’s end goal. Who wants war, when cordiality is a much better option.
@Becks1 I totally get what you are saying re Harry, and I agree. I am at a similar point with my sister after many years of gaslighting drama, and especially after a lot of unnecessary stresses surrounding the recent arrangements for our mother’s funeral, and although it was a difficult decision, it was the best one for my wellbeing. Life is too short to engage with people who create drama on the regular just for the sake of it.
@jenjamtx You are absolutely right. Letting go of a toxic relationship is really cathartic.
Except your sister wasn’t actively trying to get you killed.
Deciding not to attend the funeral of the older sister who had patronised and gaslighted me for over 60 years was hard to justify to the siblings who had a totally different picture of her. I’m sure they think I’m horrible, but it was the right thing for me.
Harry needs additional work on Codependency
Your comment is certainly a huge leap considering the very few words quoted from this article & that fact the you (presumably) do not know know Harry personally. So many people making massive ASSumptions about H&M.
Harry’s spokesperson has clarified that ‘some people don’t want it to work out’ wasn’t aimed at William or any other member of his family.
@ SpringFlower
I don’t believe that. Who else are they trying to work things out with? They already know the press it going to continue to do what it does.
I wasn’t speaking as to whom Harry referred to with that comment. I was referring to Andrea stating Harry needs additional work on codependency. That is a very presumptuous statement to make considering I do not think Andrea actually knows or has ever spoken to Harry.
@Tongdes
Did you listen to the full interview? Harry said people often ask him how he’s going to work things out with his family, and that seeing him do it might help others dealing with something similar. ‘Some people don’t want it to work out’ came in that general context, not as a reference to William or his family. That’s also what his spokesperson clarified.
@Happy1: you’re right; I responded to something you weren’t actually saying
IMO he’s referencing tabloids, rota, derangers, deranger bots, KP bots, and frankly all of us — as the ones who don’t want it to work out.
Well harry should take his own advice and let go of his family than. This is bizzare and dumbass eden was screaming about for these same talking points for some time. I don’t understand his views on british education because his brother and sister in law are clear example how dumb these people are. Also why on earth these mixed race kids wants to live and study in a country where no matter what their talent is nothing when compared to heir to the throne that they need to make themselves small to uphold monarchy. USA is way more safe ( they lived in California) compare to Europe and especially uk with 7 prime minister in seven years and andy won’t last either . This is beyond bizzare and many poster here was right that harry couldn’t make nothing in usa and he run back to uk and doing royal style charity that’s the one he knows and it’s easy too.
My question is are rich Californians really personally affected by the Trump administration?
The answer is no. And Trump LOVES royals. He even called off the Heritage Foundation when it was harassing Harry.
While not rich, I do feel grateful to live in California under this current criminal administration. I feel somewhat insulated from the horrible happenings because our governor and many of our politicians are anti-Trump and are likely to push back on his policies.
No. He’s full of crap about that honestly.
i live in a blue state and my governor has pushed back a lot against Trump. I’m white and we’re upper class. I’d still move if I could.
There’s being personally affected (which I am as a fed) and then there’s being aware of what’s happening in the country and not saying “well I’m white and rich so I’m safe so whatever.”
EVER-Y ONE is affected by the current administration. Ev er y one. IN the whole country (& other countries as well). And yes, as a Californian, people in California are affected, rich or not.
The murder rate per 100,000 in the US is 5 times of that in the UK.
As someone living in California, Cali isn’t as safe as people are trying to make it seem because it is a blue state. Trump’s reach here is still felt. Normal day citizens are still being rounded up by ICE. Los Angeles is a ghost town because of the ICE raids. Homeland Security and ICE sit on the highways like state troopers between LA and San Diego. Also, California’s is ranked 37th for primary school education, Texas is 34 (I am from Texas) so their public schools are not that great. I understand why they decided to leave. USA does not feel safe for many and since Trump believes Harry and Meghan are disrespectful to the monarchy, I am sure they do not want to take their chances on getting harassed by the administration. As far as what Harry was saying. I do not believe he is trying to make amends with his brother just his father. I do understand why he is doing it. As a Virgo, I am sure he wants to attempt every avenue before he is over it because once a Virgo is over something, there is no coming back.
I was educated in California schools, then in CSU for BA, and UC for graduate school. All 5 of my sons received/receiving California public school education with 3 of them CSU and UC graduates. They are thriving a Civil Engineer for CalTrans, MSW Social Work, and a Rancher growing Almonds, Apples and Grapes. The youngest 2 sons are 13 and 15 and do well in public Middle and high school. I was an 18 yr old teen mom, my husband was 21. We made it, we both work for the State of California in correctional Nursing.
Meghan is clearly the most intelligent and best educated person in that entire “family” and she went to school in CA until she left for college. You can’t paint the entire state with one brush. The quality varies dramatically depending on the particular area.
Speaking from experience, there’s no reconciling with some people and hoping for them to come around is a waste of energy that’s better spent elsewhere.
With William, reconcilation simply means returning to a toxic and abusive dynamic. Harry needs to accept William will never change and is dragging others down to his level. This will make William especially dangerous when he ascends to the throne.
I truly believe the monarchy is not going to survive the next decade and I don’t think it’s wise for Harry to be anywhere near William when that occurs.
You’re right that there’s no reconciling with some people. I also know this from (bitter) experience.
I get the feeling that Harry certainly knows this after all his years of therapy, which is why he described his relationship with William as “SPACE”. However, he is clever enough to not give extra talking points to the media. For example, he certainly wouldn’t say that he is DONE with William, even though it is clear that he and M have been done with William and Kate for years. They both have all that discovery material from their respective lawsuits to remind them of things which have occurred and foreshadow things which have yet to come.
That said, Harry is no fool. He knows full well that he looks much better against the current head and future head of the Church of England if HE is the one holding out the “hope” of reconciliation while the literal king and the rage monster screech about Harry and Meghan doing charity work and plotting various punishments for the crime of being charismatic and hardworking. And he’s not saying just brush everything under the carpet – he’s literally saying that he wants peace, i.e., for the Windsors to leave him and his family alone and stop attacking them via the media. More than once, Harry has said that there can be no reconciliation without truth, acknowledgement and an apology, and I believe that he still means that.
It should also be noted that “reconciliation” does not mean “returning to work on behalf of the monarchy”. The Sussexes have their hard-won freedom and won’t be sacrificing that for the leftovers, despite the sudden bouts of wishful thinking from the media which have no access. So wanting to reconcile does not mean returning to the toxic and abusive dynamic which they left. This is how William sees it – he will accept nothing less than Harry’s total and unconditional surrender and a return to being his scapegoat, foot soldier and whipping boy, which is not at all what Harry is saying. That’s why you saw all those reports insisting that Harry had to “apologise and beg forgiveness”. But Harry is clearly not about to do that, and neither will Meghan.
100%. But the Windsor Klan will not compromise. For them, reconciliation means returning to the old toxic dynamic and for Meghan and Harry’s multiracial children to go away. I genuinely believe they will not stop until they get what they want.
If people don’t think anything they’ve ever done or said is part of the issue, then what’s the point? Meghan cut off the father and family who consistently used her for financial gain. Her husband should take a lesson.
On the one hand, it was good to hear from Harry the reasons they moved — but his desire to be closer to his family, how is that working out?
I hope he meant the Spencers … because the Windsors don’t seem to be giving much. I mean, has Charles even seen him yet?
He said he’s been naive in the past. I think he’s still a little naive when it comes to his birth family.
Reading this, I see how much Harry is like Diana! He really has her heart. She said, “I don’t go by a rule book, because I lead from the heart, not the head.” I can see in this interview that Harry’s doing that too, hoping for a reconciliation, to be back in the bosom of his family but sometimes you have to use your head too! I feel like Diana was more shrewd than Harry though. I’m glad he has the Spencers and Meghan to rely on because I think he’s going to get his heart broken again and again with the Windsor side of the family.
I think Diana was impulsive. And Harry has inherited that. I really hope it works out for him (and Meghan and the children). But gosh there’s a lot of hatred out there
I don’t think Diana was ‘impulsive”. Not at all. She was very serious about her role as a royal and planned work with charities. I think her ex husband was the impulsive one. Diana was too good for that family. Maybe a lot of thought went into Harry’s and Meghan’s plans so it really was not ‘impulsive’. Diana certainly would have fought against the propaganda against Harry and Meghan, she experienced this herself. Charles does not lift a finger.
I think he meant the Spencers and his dying father. I don’t think he expected to see his father every weekend. I just think he wants to be close in the event that there’s a sudden deterioration. I think he wants to be there when Charles dies. After the way he lost his mother – with no goodbye, no closure, a grief played out for the world to see – who can blame him? But that means that charles is probably a lot worse off than we know.
Harry really is a great guy in so many ways. But he has blind spots the size of Mt. Everest. The whole “British education is the best education” thing is crazy to me. And the political situation in the US? The whole world is on the brink these days. Did he notice what happened in France over the weekend? And the British establishment hates his wife to the point of wishing violence on her. He has rose colored glasses firmly in place when it comes to his own country, its class system and archaic monarchy. Yoking himself to all that in the future is not the solution he hopes it is.
right! The British Education reason which is tied to class system which ties into ridiculous notions of accent, etc… C’mon man. Archie and Lili deserve better.
i dont get the british education thing because its not like Harry went to university, its not like he had the most amazing educational experience, etc. But it makes me wonder if it does circle back to his childhood – if he wishes he had a different educational experience, if he wishes he had gone to university (spare makes it sound like it was never really an option for him) and so he’s trying to fix that error with his children. I dont think that’s entirely healthy, but he’s not the first parent to try to fix something “wrong” from their childhood with their own children.
As for leaving the US….i dont fault him for that. I would get the hell out of here too if I had the means.
I thought Harry mentioned a university program that he thought sounded interesting so he must have done a bit of research on universities or heard about programs from others. It seems nobody expected Harry to go to university, so he didn’t. Obviously, life has proven that Harry is not thick, and he didn’t get the academic help it seems he needed to succeed.
Yeah for some reason I want to say it was Brighton, but that could be completely wrong. A B name sticks in my head though. That was one of the saddest parts of the book for me honestly – he had this thought “well maybe this…..” and then his father or the Firm or whoever was like “no darling boy that’s not for you.”
If he regrets not having a university education, it’s not too late for that. He has money and time. The route he is on now seems like a dead end to me. He wants to serve. That’s a noble aspiration, but he’s chosen to continue to do that through royal style events. As for trying to escape American politics, good luck with that. He only needs to look around to know that no country is a safe harbor from fascism right now, including the UK. I’m just going to say it. If he really wants to serve, he could leave royalty behind and run for office. He is a natural politician (in the good sense), just like his Mum. And he would be so good at politics.
@BrassyRebel
I don’t think what Harry is doing is a dead end. Royal type events are only part of what he does. In Nottingham, he is checking up on organizations he’s worked with for years. His work with Invictus, Travalyst, Better-Up- all meaningful work creating something tangible. He both creates and invests in people and companies. Nothing dead-end about that.
I listened to the whole interview after reading the summary here and think it was a very good conversation with the interviewer. The purpose of the interview was to talk about his MasterClass on grief. I think focussing on some of the incidental information that comes up takes away from the purpose of the interview.
With his a level results his options for uni were limited. He did well at cadets and must have shown some potential at aosb. (Army officer selection board) Which doesn’t rely solely on academic results. Although 80% of sandhurst officer cadets have degrees. I think he was interested in Bristol or Exeter where Peter and Zara went.
Didn’t he say something about not knowing there were so many black prople in London before meeting Meghan? He definitely has had huge class and race blinders on his whole life. Military years possibly the exception if the U.K. army is as racially integrated as the U.S. army.
Yeah, he DEFINITELY has blinders on when it comes to race and class.
I just feel for the kids in all of this. The fact that he is pretty much confirming these ridiculous tabloid stories shows how the leaks are back..
London as a city is said to be the third most ethically and culturally diverse cities in the world. Toronto and NYC top the list.
Some 41% of London residents are from other backgrounds with over 300 languages spoken in homes.
The comments in spare illustrate the bubble he lived in. The glossy posse is not like the rest of the uk in terms of wealth or ethnicity.
Just going to say that you and me and a few others called out this mess for what it was. Him thinking Britain’s educational system was better. And this right here is showing this won’t be a temporary thing. Man. I hope they get full time security via RAVEC. I just don’t even want to say more than that at this point.
He did not say it was better. Not at all.
He said it was a different experience. Watch the full interview and not the quoted parts
Where are you getting this idea about him thinking the British system was better? He doesn’t say that at all, just that they always wanted the kids to have some experience of British schools, and at 7 and 5 it was good for them to have the chance to compare the two cultures. Also specifically says he’s not criticizing US schools. Don’t even have to watch the full interview – he talks about the children in school within the first five minutes.
As much as I hate Trump I would rather live in NYC – or where I am in Houston – right now than in Paris. Which is not to say something like that couldn’t happen here too. It has before. But the burning of historic buildings and places of worship hits me harder than looting somehow. It seems hateful and targeted as opposed to merely opportunistic.
Huh. I haven’t watched it yet but he said the political climate in the states is one of the reasons they left? Damn. Meanwhile I’m still stuck here. Matthew Mcconaughey’s destabalizing comments today has me in a mood.
I haven’t listened to the full thing yet either but I just saw a clip where he talks about why he should be allowed to tell his story, because other people have told their version of his story for years. YES HARRY!
Absolutely.
Unless there’s something more in the second half that I haven’t watched yet, he specifically seemed to be referring to the environment around the mid-term elections – he said it’s good to be outside the US for the next few months, let things settle down for a bit.
Ok thank u. I still haven’t watched yet. Will have to save for later. They have me stressed out I know that.
Nothing to be stressed about, IMO, and I’ve watched the whole interview. You can draw your own conclusions. He sounds very thoughtful and confident. Really only talks about their move and current situation for the first few minutes, and it’s basically what’s been suggested by some of the less extreme comments here. He hasn’t been able to spend time in the UK in six years, now he’s there with Meghan and the kids, they always wanted the children to have some exposure to the parts of Harry’s upbringing that he values, the kids have a chance to experience a different school culture, they have friends with kids and there’s lots of play dates. And it’s not a bad time to take a break from the US for at least the next few months. Most of the rest was about his own experience with grief; the point of the interview was obviously connected with publicity for the MasterClass. Does has some interesting comments on supporting real journalism, at the end.
Not the interview but the midterms have me stressed out, lol.
I would say I hope he’s being strategic here knowing that publicly the feud is not a good look for anyone and wanting to end it and move on, and also that it’s his family that are the roadblocks to that.
But he might just truly be all in on it and want it all back. Who knows.
I do think he’s found a good medium where they make their own money and could just do things occasionally for the family, but that institution is so jealous of each other and racist that it would never work. Harry and Meghan can’t be Zara and Mike, or Beatrice or Eugenie, or any of the others because they aren’t a dull as dishwater, and they will always garner attention.
I also think part of the problem is that William is what stands between him and….everything. Like he will not get to spend Easter or Christmas with the Windsors (if he even wanted to) because William won’t allow it. And they may not want to do that, they may want to go back to California or go to Althorp or Portugal or wherever…but it sucks that the choice is made because William has been in a rage fit for over half a decade.
i don’t think Charles wants meghan & the kids at family events either,
I think that Meghan wants some time with her mum and her mum wants time with her grandchildren, they are important to each other, if Charles wants to spend time with his son he he can easily do so.
@Becks I think he knows that and that’s the reason for making the move now; he wants to at least be on good (well, civil…who knows with KFC) terms with his father when he passes. Imo he knows William is a lost cause.
Harry’s spokesman via PEOPLE: “His comment about “some people” not wanting things to work out “was absolutely not intended as a swipe at his brother or any other member of his family. The comment was made in a general context and was not directed at his family in any way.”
IMO some of it was definitely toward his family but also the media. The media is able to dine out for years due to the rift, and they have no intention of stopping their grift.
Okay I’ve listened to that part of the interview and I see why the spokesperson clarified it to People. I think when you listen to it his meaning is more clear than when you just see it written down. he talks about grieving his relationship with his brother and father, how that is massively relatable to many, and how people look to him and say “well how are you going to work it out, because maybe that will help me work my stuff, and some people don’t want it to work out.” It’s a lot more generic than I think the specific quote makes it sound.
I didn’t even have to listen to the whole interview to think he wasn’t necessarily talking about his family when he said that. There are a lot of people out there — media and otherwise — who don’t want things to work out for him.
Eyeroll. He is still in essence begging for his dad to love him. I recall when Meghan did her In the Cut interview and they had to walk back what she said about fathers so it wasn’t implied that Harry was done with Charles.
Absolutelyagree, I would much rather live California than anywhere else. I’ve traveled to Asia, Europe, South America, Mexico, and Canada and there is no place else I would rather live.
How very curious. Meghan seems the smartest/most educated in that family and she’s the only one who didn’t have a British education. Not that the US is the best, necessarily; it’ll be what you make of it. (And the kids weren’t being hunted at school in California, as far as I know.)
I always thought that he was forcing this because he wanted his kids to have the options for anything and everything. That he wasn’t going to let his kids be banished from the country of his birth. And I get that, but the idea of “letting go” of your father and brother deliberately targeting you and your wife and using the press to do it? whew.
I do get not wanting to be in the US right now. That part sounds great.
He didn’t say British schools are superior, just culturally different, and he wanted his kids to experience that type of school system as well. I spent a year at a British university and, though I came away thinking my American university system was better, I didn’t regret experiencing the British school system, as it gave me a new perspective.
I think the children are at a good age for soaking up a new culture in their bones, so to speak, and when they are adults they can decide where they want to live and thrive.
Yes, that’s what I heard too, and I’m puzzled by the takeaways above about “British education being the best in the world”, etc. What I heard was, there are things in his upbringing in the UK that he wants to share with his kids. That they always hoped for the kids to have an experience in British schools, had thought about it in a casual way, and the reality of them doing it means more to him than he expected. That at age 7 and 5 it’s good to be able to compare the two different cultures.
And also, he said he hasn’t been able to spend more than a few days or a week in the UK for the past six years, and the chance to spend extended time there, and have his family with him, which is what I always thought was one of the reasons for them returning. There’s clearly things he valued about his time growing up – including friends, who now have children having playdates with Archie and Lili. It makes sense to me, and it sounds like the way they’re spending their time is only tangentially related to anything to do with the Windsors, however much the media dwells on the situation with the RF. Personally, I think Harry sounds like he’s got a good handle on where he’s at and what his expectations are, which I suppose puts me in the minority among the comments here in the last few weeks.
I would like for Harry to follow Meghan’s example and stop giving interviews. Where she has found power in silence, every time Harry speaks he loses a lot of his lustre and inches closer to permanently becoming what many have called him for years: an entitled brat.
I think it is really obvious by some comments here, who has watched the full interview and who is reacting to isolated quotes that take all the nuance out of a lovely interview promoting his Masterclass on grief.
I agree, you really have to watch the entire interview.
Agreed, I’ve watched it now and it’s not really what people here are trying to make it be, at all.
Geez @slough tell us how you really feel
@Rudy. I did.
Noted.
Also you guys I’m laughing so hard that this video dropped as W&K are standing in the rain, miserable. This will be the media’s focus, not the state dinner. Kate’s gonna have to wear a really big tiara hahaha.
Wait I haven’t see those yet!
oh I haven’t seen actual pics yet either, I’m just laughing at how this will steal the coverage from the Wales.
Lmao, I love this for Kate
Y’all, they let them in the tent this time! In the back, in the dark, but still inside! 🤣
Even with him saying this, you’ll still have people saying no he doesn’t mean the dog shit father, or his brother. Yes, he does. I don’t know how many other ways he can tell you and show you. He wants a relationship with both his father and brother, he wants a family. Harry is also monarchist, his father is his king ,William is his future king. If he is allowed, he would go back in, in some form or for big events( “he said he’d never go back”, he also said he wouldn’t bring his family without security). He is clearly willing to forgive all the things done and said to his wife and children that continues still today. I think the only thing keeping Harry from being side by side ( or two steps behind) his brother on Christmas morning, is William’s anger and ego. The press and men in grey is who he is talking about in the title not William.
If he was as desperate as you and others on here seem to think he is to return to being a working royal….why did he leave to begin with?
I’m not sure he ever meant to fully settle in the U.S. Their hand was forced a bit by Covid and then a bunch of lucrative California-based contracts. Now that they aren’t under those contracts they are back in England, seemingly on a whim. Which makes you think maybe leaving was also done without a lot of planning but based on feelings in the moment. It was the right move to save Meghan but that doesn’t mean it was well considered in advance.
I think he always wanted to explore what if ( everyone wonder what ifs in our life). It’s like phrase where some prisoners couldn’t handle normal life and does crime and goes back to jail. I think that analogy apply to harry. He went to usa and no none cared about royals or title etc and they had freedom and he was bored and he goes to uk. Don’t be surprised if he started being and seen with Windsor.
@Meredith I am not sure they ever meant to fully settle in the US either, they certainly indicated that they intended to split their lives between the US and the UK. But i meant “leaving” as in “stepping away from being a working royal,” not leaving the country itself. who knows how Sussexit would have played out without COVID happening at the same time as well.
@Chenni see I disagree because I think the US LOVES royals and loves titles and we absolutely care about those things. We just think it sounds better to act like we don’t. Harry was on the ESPYs, he received the Pat Tillman award and other awards in California, he and meghan were invited to significant events, they had a circle of friends that included celebrities and do we think ellen or oprah would have been friends with them if he wasn’t Prince Harry?
Besides – America loves rich white men. we’re not exactly the epitome of meritocracy over here.
But I do think how we approach charity/philanthropy is very different.
I think when he left he felt the family and the family business would fall apart. He was very popular and with Meghan even more so. I think that he felt that he would always have security regardless and thought that they would beg him to come back. I truly do think when security was cut and Williams went silent he would not believe it. Why is he back? Well in the states being a Prince is not really a thing. He said twice in the interview I am a prince. He really thinks a lot of himself. And personally I think Meghan is kind of sick of it all but what can she do?
It’s a great interview, and I’m glad I watched it all the way through to see the context around the sound bites and isolated quotes people are referring to. Harry seems to me to be thoughtful, self aware but without being self centered, and rational and put-together. I didn’t see desperation or unrealistic delusions in any of it.
It really is!
Will watch the entirety of the interview this afternoon. My thoughts on what has been shared: quick move for having a six year home in another country, 1. suggests to me a will see if this works out, 2. No problem with their choice of education for their children but they will have to do a lot of explaining to them re the UK interpretation of its history.3. Harry has a good heart and I see why Meghan appears to adore him. 4. Harry needs a reality check
I loved listening to Harry in this interview!
I watched the interview and knew immediately that the part about reconciliation would be taken from it and be discussed to death. The interview was about promoting his Masterclass on Grief. He also said he is still working with BetterUp which I am glad because I thought that was over. He talked about the reconciliation from the point of view of being an example for other families who experience estrangement. He said people who are interested in his family rift will benefit if he and his family show them how to reconcile. He tied it to his motto of sharing one’s story to help others.
They also talked about anticipatory grief which is the grief you experience when a parent or a loved one is diagnosed. He said he was unprepared for his mom’s grief and he could only identify it and learn to live with it through therapy. He is now actively preparing himself, including his attempts at reconciliation, for the grief that would eventually come with the passing of his other parent.
Unfortunately all this nuance will be lost in the coverage and comments that jumped at the word reconciliation. People have already chosen their sides and made up their minds on this issue. Harry will not be able to change that.
Gracias por dar luz, a los que ya están sacando sus conclusiones y opinando sin haber visto la entrevista completa.
I personally think he needs to quit talking about his family including Diana. Move on. What will he be doing 10 years from now. Giving interviews on William?
Here’s a link to the full interview for those interested in what was actually said, discussed and in what context. https://www.gq.com/story/prince-harry-one-more-question
Thank you!
When you say Americans love royals, are you including Charles, Camila, Will and Kate? Because last I checked they are royals and are far from loved.
As for loving rich white men, NO.
Generally speaking, yes. But we especially loved Diana and QEII. And Americans love jewels and gowns and that kind of stuff. Why do you think People mag talks about them so much? Why do you think we talk about them on here? (Which we did before Meghan ever entered the scene). Even if it’s negative, we talk abut Kate constantly.
And yeah life in the US is notoriously difficult for rich white men. No opportunity, no access, no attention, no power, etc. Poor poodles.
I think Harry is a brave soul, and a very loving man. I think I would want to give it one last try, perhaps. But everything he has done is with his immediate family in mind. I feel he is thinking of his children and how they will be accepted and impacted, and his wife, who has been impacted so severely and treated so horribly. It didn’t work from America, and he apparently has other reasons to be here. But it is easy to turn away and stay away sometimes, and brave to try to come to terms with idiots. But idiots that you love. However he comes to terms with his bro and dad will impact his family. Truly hope it works out. It can only be good for all around. I don’t know, it must be hard to be William. I would be bone tired of being incandescent ALL the time.
Harry is not going to be able to change his father’s attitude and especially not Scooter’s. IMO.
The British education didn’t exactly work out Harry. Does this mean that they’re staying for more than a year? Meghan is really committed to this relationship. I couldn’t do it.
Didn’t really work for Will or Kate, either. Dumb as multiple boxes of rocks. Charles & Edward both went to Cambridge–Cambridge!–and while Charles at least appears to be moderately intelligent, although I’m starting to suspect this was all due to the sycophantic press & the narratives they weave–Edward has always appeared thick as the proverbial plank.
Charles and Edward didn’t have the grades to get into Cambridge on their merit and given some of their comments they’re not that smart either.
@Amy ber
It didn’t work out, you say..? And why is that..?
Whenever Harry opens his mouth, he demonstrates his intelligence, his commitment, and his knowledge regarding the subjects and matters he discusses.
He wasn’t allowed to continue his education—he was told, “this isn’t for you.” It couldn’t be allowed to come to light just how brilliant and intelligent Harry truly is—and that it was William who was always the dim-witted one.
At military school and during his Apache training, he was among the best—and in certain areas, he was the very best.
Your comment would be accurate if you had used the name William instead.
@katsztanka: Because he didn’t excel at school.
Harry’s inability to not mention his father and brother in some interviews is the gift that keeps on giving for the institution and anti Sussex media. He KNOWS even one sentence where he talks about his relationship with them will immediately be taken completely out of context and sources will be quoted as throwing up their hands in despair and saying “see, the family can’t trust him”.
This on the heels of the successful visit to the charities in Nottingham is “unfortunate” as they say in Brit speak.
I understand the concern. But why does expressing his wish for reconciliation undo any of the good from the visit? He’s speaking for himself, not revealing private conversations or speaking for his father and brother.
And whatever he says, it will be dissected anyway. At least this way he’s being honest about where he stands.
Last time he said something similar, in May 2025, it didn’t backfire either. By July, Harry’s and Charles’s communications staff had met, and by September Harry and Charles had their first conversation in over a year.
It was actually a pretty good interview, the reconciliation stuff is way overblown, he’s very diplomatic about it and frames it universally. He says he sometimes overshares ( ya think) but he wants to shape his own narrative. He’s clearly promoting Master Class. I like his aura in this interview. I want them to buy a charming English country pile but also go back to Montecito.
@L4Frimaire, thank you. You always seem to have a very grounded perspective.
Oh, Harry… sigh…
