Hello: Prince Harry & Meghan took their kids ‘overseas for a short break’

The Duchess of Sussex has had a devastating week. Last Thursday, Thomas Markle was publicly outed as an (alleged) PDFile, and it turns out that Thomas Markle’s first wife wrote a letter to the Met Police, warning them about Thomas and telling them to keep Thomas far away from Meghan. Meghan was advised by police and lawyers to say nothing publicly, which is exactly what she did. She’s been issuing statements and her team in the UK has been working to provide background on all of the British media’s stories about her garbage father. Well, all of these stories broke as Archie and Lili’s half-term began. So it sounds like Prince Harry took his wife and children out of the country for a break.

The Duchess of Sussex is being supported by friends outside the UK as she comes to terms with devastating allegations made against her father Thomas Markle Snr, HELLO! can reveal. She and Prince Harry have taken Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet overseas for a short break and are understood to be spending time with close friends. Meghan’s circle are also calling her daily to check in.

“She’s just really, really upset,” a friend tells HELLO!. “She keeps on looking at Lili and she’s in tears, and thinking about all the children, the alleged victims. She has young children herself. It’s just devastating.”

“She decided a while ago, before this happened, that she was going to take herself away from the media and not look at anything, for her own mental health. But obviously, she’s been getting sent a lot of messages from friends in the UK and people all over saying how sorry they are, but it’s just been an emotional rollercoaster for her. She’s in bits.”

Meghan first became aware of serious allegations against her father in 2018, when the Metropolitan Police passed her a letter written by his first wife, Roslyn Loveless, in which she made what Meghan has since described as “disturbing” claims. She had only met Roslyn, mother of her stepsister Samantha Markle and stepbrother Thomas Jr, once or twice, HELLO! understands.

It is understood that Meghan was advised at the time not to go public with the allegations. But she decided then to sever all ties with her father, a retired Hollywood lighting director. After he continued to complain about their estrangement in media interviews, she wrote to him a final time in December last year, to explain why she had cut contact.

“There is some relief that it is finally out there,” adds the friend.

[From Hello Magazine]

A source – probably the same source – went to People Magazine with similar quotes, saying that Meghan is “holding up” but “it’s been really difficult. She’s really cut up. She has young children, and I think that, alongside the victims, is just weighing on her mind. It’s traumatic….There is a lot to process emotionally. But she’s doing okay. She’s holding up. She’s surrounded by loved ones and is feeling supported right now. She has great people around her getting through this moment.” I can’t even imagine. And for all of this to happen just a few months after the Sussexes moved back to the UK as well, with many members of the rancid British press twisting themselves in knots to blame Meghan for her father’s depravities. Those same people who screamed for years that Meghan was horrible for cutting off her father. In addition to everything else, I bet Meghan has whiplash from the press’s volte-face.

Sending love and light to Meghan. She did what she was supposed to do with regard to the horrible information she received re her diabolical father. For the UK gutter rats to proudly say they are journalists and at the same time not doing any investigation on Markle,Sr background says a lot about them. The whole lot of them are nothing but salacious gutter rats.

  2. Susan says:

Okay, i have a couple of questions. Please do not be cross with me if these are ignorant questions, I am not as knowledgeable of the Sussex scene as others here:

    1. Where has this Roslyn woman been all these years?? Like, did you all know about her? Was she the lone Markle-adjacent relative that didn’t have something to say to the media? (Okay that was a little snarky but also a serious question)
    2. If this woman was married to Thomas before Meghan was born, one would presume her knowledge of this predates Meghan and Doria, right? Why didn’t she warn/notify Doria back then? Or when Meghan was a child?
    3. While I appreciate this woman’s discretion in not making more of an embarrassment to Meghan, why did she choose 2018/2019? I mean yes, that’s when Meghan joined the royal family but she was an adult—and of childbearing years—before that. Wouldn’t she want to warn adult Meghan?

Again, forgive me but this story leaves me with so many questions.

    • Graphinya Heather says:

      1. She gave an interview in May 2019, after she sent the letter, warning Meghan (who she didn’t really know and had met once or twice) she should never let Thomas near Archie, but didn’t mention the CSA part (understandable, she may have assumed some sort of investigation was in the works)
      2. From what I’ve gathered from her interview and vicious things Samantha posted about her own mother, I doubt there was a relationship. She may not have known he had remarried and had a daughter if no one told her for years.
      3. They didn’t have a relationship, though by then she had custody (I think) of Samantha’s youngest, who had met Meghan a couple of times.

Roslyn was a first wife who had been out of the family circle for decades. It’s my theory she contacted the Met/Scotland Yard because Meghan was in the UK, and Thomas at that time was giving nearly daily interviews on how desperate he was to reconcile with Meghan and mentioning the baby on how he deserved contact, etc etc. It was all first page gossip fodder. Again, just theories.

    • Cassie says:

We will never know about the ex wife because she is deceased ,

      • Amy says:

Truth will out. I just wish it happened at a faster pace for all involved. I hope Meghan will get a break, but the BM would never.

    • lanne says:

      1) Rosilyn Loveless was married to Thomas Markle for over 10 years and is the mother of Samantha and Thomas Junior
      2) She died in 2024
      3) She has spoken out publically against Thomas Markle, the behavior of her adult kids, and in support of Meghan many times
      4) She wrote a letter in 2018 to the British authorities talking about how Thomas Markle is a danger to children. She wrote about his overseas trips to have sex with children.
      5) In no way did she have any responsibiliity to Doria. That’s absurd. She was the ex-wife by the time Doria met Thomas. How is it an ex-wife’s role to report on her ex to a new wife? Why not simply blame the abusive man for being abusive? Why would anyone who escaped a toxic situation re-insert themselves back into it? I believe she lived in a different state by then.
      6) Why 2018? Well, that’s when Meghan and harry got married! Why would she have sent a letter when Meghan was a girlfriend? She acted responsibly by giving the authorities information she had when that information would matter. Looking at the way the authorities showed an appalling lack of care with her letter, what would have they done differently had the letter been sent earlier?

      7) Why are you trying to place blame on an ex wife instead of blaming the abuser? She did her due diligence, in an incredibly sensitive situation. She could have easily done nothing. The royal family’s MO as we see is to do nothing, and to allow children to be exposed to predators. Why are you implicitly criticizing the one person who spoke out? You may not have intended to, but that’s what you’re implicitly doing. We have got to stop blaming women for the actions of men. We have got to stop expecting women to police men’s behavior.

      • Graphinya Heather says:

5: she lived in Illinois. Doria and Thomas married in 1979, divorced in 1987. This is important. There was no google or facebook or social media then. She couldn’t just message Doria and tell her anything. Are you American, Susan? I ask this because a lot of people forget how big the US is. Roslyn and Doria lived in literally different time zones.

      • Cindy says:

I don’t think that is what the poster intended to do. And she is right the whole story raises a lot of questions. Personally I think the thought this women was an unhinged ex-wife trying to cause trouble for Meghan and saw it more as a threat uo Meghan for security than anything else.

As well the poster was not blaming women for his actions. However if multiple women and men Harry included knew about this and did nothing that is a problem. The bigger question I have is did Doris know when she was married to him. How could only tbe exwife know?

      • bisynaptic says:

        She’s not criticizing.

      • Jais says:

Thx for answering those questions @lanne and keeping the focus on the abuser, Thomas markle. @cindy, what was Harry to do aside from assume that the Met had passed the letter on to the us or Mexico authorities? They were told markle was under investigation.

      • Becks1 says:

Doria didn’t know because a lot of these predators are very very good at hiding their true selves, at acting one way in X setting and a different way in Y setting. We’ve seen it time and time again when stories about someone abusing their power or position come to light – “well I never saw that side of him.” And I generally believe those people.

It’s also possible that Tom Markle started abusing children as he got older – maybe when started going abroad more for those trips, etc. Not every child predator starts out at age 18 abusing children. For many there is a ramp up and it sounds like that was true for Markle.

    • ChillinginDC says:

We are not going to blame the dead woman for her husband being a potential p. That’s absurd.

      • bisynaptic says:

She’s not blaming, she’s just asking.

      • Kasztanka says:

        There are two issues here:
        – FIRSTLY, I see nothing wrong with the questions raised by Susan and others. It is entirely possible that an ex-spouse—seeing their detested former partner suddenly become a media “star” and even gain an invitation to a royal wedding—might decide to ruin someone’s reputation revealing his sins. We don’t know exactly when the letter was written or when it reached the police; we only have a rough idea of when the police forwarded it to the office of the KP.
While I choose to assume good intentions and genuine concern, one cannot rule anything out—so asking these questions is appropriate.
        – SECONDLY, regardless of the intent—and even regardless of the facts—this is a serious accusation that MUST be investigated. If it is true, it means that children are still being harmed somewhere, while the police, the Palace, and the press have swept the matter under the rug…
They would be complicit in the harm caused to victims since 2018–2019!!!

    • Amy Bee says:

Roslyn spoke out against Toxic Tom in the past. The British press didn’t listen to her because she didn’t fit the narrative about Meghan and they decided to back Meghan’s father.

    • Susan says:

Okay guys listen: I am not blaming the ex-wife. If you re-read my post, I stated clearly from the onset, do not be cross with me based on my ignorance, I don’t have history with the situation. I was putting myself in Meghan’s shoes, and if the first I heard of my father’s proclivities was in my 30s, I would not only be bereft but also wonder how I hadn’t heard of this until now.

I understand we are living in high-anxiety times but let’s all take a collective deep breath and remember that not every question or reaction —however different it may be than ours would be—is meant with malice.

      • Susan says:

Also, thank you so much @Cindy for understanding me. I really appreciate your post. You totally get what I was trying to say. And yes, the Markle outer family has left me with skepticism about them, I will definitely cop to that bias. It’s warranted, though.

      • Meme says:

Honestly I think that the one part of Samantha Markle’s story that may be true is that Roslyn was an alcoholic. And maybe being married to Tom is part of how she became one, who knows. It’s an illness, no judgement of her here, but it is possible that she just was not really able to reach out to anyone. At some point she cleaned herself up enough to gain custody of Samantha’s daughter however.

      • lanne says:

No one is calling you out for malice. That would be easy to do and unfair. I was calling you out for something more insidious than malice–unconscious bias. Not more insidious because it’s intentional, but insidious because the bias runs so deep in our culture that it affects not only our own perceptions of what’s around us, but other people’s as well. Lots of people probably had the same questions as you, and I was speaking to them as much as to you. Not from a “holier than thou” place, but from the reality that we cannot let certain biases go anymore, regardless of intent. We, collectively, reach to blame women for the actions of men over and over and over again. So many women (and children) have come to real harm because of it. People on this site have followed the harm done to Meghan for over a decade by the British establishment. So many of us rush to her defense because this is one of the few places online that’s willing to acknowledge Meghan’s humanity as well as the pain of her mistreatment. Many of us our women of color who have experienced similar mistreatment in our own personal lives, careers, relationships. Women are subject to scrutiny to insane degrees, with the goalposts continually moving. You may have just been asking questions, but you asked the same questions that are used to weaponize the actions of women–even when women are doing the right thing. As your own questions insinuate, it’s much more worthy of criticism to do the right thing than to do nothing at all. If you don’t do the right thing the right way (and the “right way” always conveniently changes), then you’re wrong. No wonder so many women don’t speak out. Do you really think it would have been better for Ms Loveless to have said nothing at all?
“I’m just asking questions” is a common tactic of the manosphere to discredit the actions of women as well.

      • Kasztanka says:

        @Lane
        – Many people are harmed and remain silent;
        – Many people are harmed and try to stand up for themselves, with varying degrees of success—often ending up ignored or even punished;
        – Many people make false accusations out of a desire for revenge, or to eliminate a rival, competitor, etc.
All of these scenarios are real; none can be ruled out. False accusations occur more often than you might think, as does the discrediting of those who report abuse. Therefore, caution in judgment and thoroughness in investigation are essential—do not dismiss potential victims, nor those who have been falsely accused!

      • Susan says:

Gee thanks for the lecture series @lanne. I cannot believe you figured out that I am a part of the manosphere! Busted. LOL.

      • Becks1 says:

People are a little on edge around here because there have been a lot of new names popping up pretty much since August but especially since this story broke – and while new names are welcome and new blood (so to speak) is a good thing, I think for some of us the posts can feel a little disingenuous or like its trying to be a “gotcha” for harry OR Meghan, even if the post is not intended as such.

    • bisynaptic says:

      Good questions.

  3. Graphinya Heather says:

I hope they went somewhere sunny and fun. Somewhere pure escapism where they can be surrounded by loved ones who care about them and wrap them, especially Meghan, in a cocoon so she can try to not think about all this mess that isn’t hers for a brief time.

  4. lady digby says:

Even Sarah Vine admitted that Meghan was right to cut off her father. After all, just recently she must have been revolted to discover that her former husband’s partner of two long years, has been charged with possession of indecent images , which she denies, and faces trail.

Sarah and Michael share two teenagers and if dad’s former longstanding girlfriend had been in their company on access visits , their mum’s first thought would have been blind panic. What mother hearing that charge, despite presumption of innocence up until either convicted or acquitted at trial, doesn’t feel sick until checking with Mike and her kids that maybe they never met the girl friend or had no unsupervised access happened?

I dislike Sarah Vine but my heart as a mother of two sons went out to her when I read about the charges facing Dr Salem.

    • bisynaptic says:

I’m surprised Vine has her head on straight enough to make the connection between her own case and Meghan’s.

  5. Kasztanka says:

I absolutely do not believe that the timing of this “discovery” is a coincidence. I’ve already mentioned here that we don’t fully grasp how deeply shaken William was by H&M’s return, nor the havoc wreaked on his state of mind by the enthusiastic reception they received in Nottingham. William believed that he was the MASTER of Great Britain—”Great Britain is mine, Harold!”—yet, meanwhile, Harry and Meghan are met with cheers, hugs, and tears of joy, while he and his—surprisingly, still wife – are being booed.
They needed something powerful, something heavy-duty, to use against Meghan, so they dusted off an accusation against her father that the Palace had been keeping under wraps. This letter from the police, dating back to 2018–2019, was supposedly sent to the “Sussex office”—except that, at the time, H&M didn’t have their own office; they shared one with W&K, along with a joint secretary—KNAUF!!!
Thomas Jr. likes writing letters, and he both likes and needs money.
And just as I don’t believe that the Palace’s connection to Epstein concerns only Andrew—especially given that he visited there repeatedly over the course of more than 20 years, and even stayed at Elizabeth’s mountain chalet (there’s a photo)—and that there might even be graver sins to hide (which is why they are protecting Andrew), I also cannot believe that Junior, who accompanied his father on those trips to Asia, isn’t implicated in the whole affair—or in this “discovery” itself!

    • lanne says:

I absolutely agree that there’s worse the royals are hiding about their own behavior. Honestly though, this is their last card to play against Meghan. What can be worse for her than this? So if they played this as a card to harm meghan, it was a really stupid thing for the royals to do (proving once again how stupid and inept they are as people: them and the whole institution). Meghan cut ties with her father. Meghan keeps receipts. While this is devastating and embarrasing for her, she hasn’t done anything wrong. And not only has this generated sympathy for Meghan, and understanding as to why she cut off her horrible father, it has pointed the spotlight on the actions of the British media and the royals themselves. Look at the Wales claiming they “knew nothing” when their lead guy Jason Knauf was in direct correspondance with Markle. Look at the worst media figures who claimed Meghan was evil for cutting off Dear Old Dad. Look again at the royals and their connections to Epstein, Saville, Ball, and other pedos. Look again at Andrew enjoying royal protection while the grandchildren of the king get none. On reddit, some of the anti-Meghan subreddits are putting out posts saying not to blame Meghan for the actions of her father. No one can argue with her cutting off her father now.

The royals and their minions have always underestimated her. They just can’t believe that an American biracial actress can be kind, intelligent, principled, well-spoken, and mentally tough. All their animus only reflects back on them, and how weak, foolish, stupid, selfish, and impetuous they are in comparison. They thought getting rid of Meghan would be a slam dunk. But their treatment of Meghan has only exposed them for the sorry bunch of entitled dimwits they truly are. They made “We Hate Meghan” their strongest brand message for the past 10 years. What has it gotten them? Who looks at the royal family as aspirational now? Their supporters support them because of their hate, not in spite of it. They allowed themselves to be co-opted by Brexit-MAGA folks who cling to the royals as a bastion of white supremacy.

    • ChillinginDC says:

How did they plan this when Thomas Jr. found the pictures/films and reported it?

      • Becks1 says:

Yeah, that’s what people seem to keep forgetting. Tom Jr is the one who reported this. It wasn’t like someone from the palace leaked the letter this week or something. Now we could ask why is this story breaking now when he alerted the authorities over the summer, but I think the news of this letter makes sense in relation to the story breaking. and lets remember that meghan is the one who first talked about the letter.

      • MsIam says:

You don’t think the palace wasn’t in touch with all three Markles? They were a package deal to abuse Meghan and they will do anything for money. They don’t work, the two ‘kids’ are alcoholics with DUIs and have done nothing worthwhile with their lives. That’s why they have all this time to harass Meghan. So hell yes I think the palace is part of this whole thing and Toxic Jr did not happen to just stumble on this PDF stuff at this particular time.

    • bisynaptic says:

There’s more to this story, definitely.

  6. Amy Bee says:

All the best to Meghan and I’m glad she’s gone away for a few days.

  7. QuiteContrary says:

    “She’s in bits.”

It’s a little suss that Meghan’s friend used that very British phrase. I mean, I’m sure she has British friends, too, but that wording makes me wonder if the source is real.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

I don’t see how she can be “in bits” at all, frankly. She’s known about her father’s behavior for at least seven years. It’s public now but not news to her. I imagine she was “in bits” seven years ago. Maybe she’s infuriated that nothing was done about it.

      • bisynaptic says:

        🎯

      • Becks1 says:

I think there’s hearing about general allegations (and maybe she assumed there was no proof since the investigation that she thought was taking place didn’t result in anything?) and then learning that your father has boxes of illegal materials in his house (i need to be careful with my wording bc I’m on my work computer…) Like I can imagine that just bringing a lot of emotions – anger, hurt, devastation for the victims, etc – up to the surface again.

    • ChillinginDC says:

This article reads as fan fiction to me. Also, why look at Lili and have tears in her eyes. The whole thing is so melodramatic.

    • bisynaptic says:

Friends of the Sussexes don’t speak to the press, methinks.

  8. KC says:

Dear Lord. How much does this woman have to endure?

  9. bisynaptic says:

They’re livid that it’s the White parent who turned out to be a pervert. They tried so hard to pin criminality on her Black parent—and it turned out: this whole time, it was the White guy. It makes them look bad. Egg-on-face. And they can’t stand it.

GB News has apologised on air to the mother of Meghan Markle after a commentator wrongly claimed she had spent time in prison.

Markle’s team blamed “irresponsible commentators” for the repetition of the false claim about Doria Ragland and suggested they would have pursued libel action against GB News if the apology had not been made.

According to Deadline, broadcast regulator Ofcom received 805 complaints about the comments.

GB News regular Carole Malone made the comments on the 9.30am show Britain’s Newsroom on 4 December when discussing recent reporting of Markle’s relationship with her father as he underwent emergency surgery.

Malone said on Monday morning’s show that she “stated that Thomas Markle, the Duchess of Sussex’s father, brought Meghan up while her mother Doria Ragland was in prison.

“I believed this to be the case based on what I now understand to be misinformation I had seen online. I was questioned about the validity of this claim during the broadcast and I repeated this belief which I now understand to be false.

“This was a genuine error. I accept what I have now been told on behalf of Ms Ragland: that she raised her daughter and that she has never been in prison or jail.

“I apologise sincerely to Ms Ragland and her family for any pain my comments may have caused and I’m happy to set the record straight.”

The schools are out this week in the UK. I’m sure a trip was planned b4 the Thomas Markle news.
