John Travolta & Kelly Preston are NOT expecting twin boys (update)

'The Last Song' Los Angeles Premiere

Last week, Star Magazine’s cover story was what turned out to be a major scoop – Kelly Preston and John Travolta were expecting. To take the wind out of Star’s sails, Kelly and John confirmed to People Magazine that Kelly was pregnant, at the age of 47. Not to be outdone, Star is running another story this week about how Kelly is allegedly expecting twins – twin boys! Here’s more:

After Star broke the news, John Travolta and Kelly Preston confirmed to the world that they are welcoming “a new addition” to their family. Now Star can exclusively reveal that the couple are really expecting a pair of new babies — twin sons!

“They were ecstatic when they thought they were having just one baby,” an insider tells Star. “Now that there will be two, they can barely contain their happiness!”

John and Kelly, who are already parents to 10-year-old daughter Ella, became more determined than ever to expand their family after their 16-year-old son, Jett, died from striking his head during a seizure in January 2009.

Kelly, 47, began in vitro fertilization treatments, says the insider, which increases the chances of conceiving twins. Due this fall, Kelly is already busy preparing for the twins. Adds the insider, “She’s having the time of her life looking at all the cute little outfits and toys online!”

Pick up this week’s issue of Star for more details on the Travolta’s baby joy, including how they are decorating the nursery and what foods Kelly is craving. Plus: Find out which other fortysomething stars have given birth to twins!

[From Star Magazine]

Yeah, it’s just a rumor, but Star proved last week that they have some good sourcing in the Travolta camp, so who knows? It could be true. Plus, my opinion (and seriously, I’m not looking to alienate all of the people who know this or that woman who got pregnant naturally in their 40s) is that Kelly probably did fertility treatments or in vitro, increasing the likelihood of multiple births. Xenu provides!

UPDATE: The Travoltas‘ rep denies Star‘s report, saying it is “totally false…They are not expecting twins.

  1. Ellen Smith says:

Even if she is pregnant, doubt they used her eggs for in vitro. His kids, her womb, donor eggs.

  2. Danielle says:

So I guess the “twin” fad is still the thing to do in Hollywood…..

  3. Tia C says:

That’s cool. I’m happy for them. I just hope they don’t name one of them Jett. That would be creepy. But not surprising, from them, they seem super nice but a bit on the weird side.

  4. city says:

    his eyes still look sad….

  5. jbo213 says:

How do they know its boys if shes only 3 months pregnant?

  6. lucy2 says:

Wow, that’s a lot to put your body through at age 47, though she’s in good shape. Hopefully everyone stays healthy and happy.

  7. ogechi says:

Though i sympathize with him on the death of his son, but i am happy for them, it is a good news.

  8. nycmom10024 says:

jbo213- CVS is done very early in the pregnancy but also carries more risk than an amnio. If this rumor is true , leads me to believe they used her eggs. CVS is recommended when you are looking for genetic abnormalities like Downs. CVS can be donw at 10-12 weeks while amnio 16-20 weeks.

  9. Whitey Fisk says:

jbo213, with in vitro doctors select specific eggs (to maximize the odds for a genetically healthy baby) and therefore know what gender they are.

Sidenote, why is fertility treatment apparently acceptable to Scientologists but psychiatrric treatment is not? Maybe Xenu was trying to tell her she was “faulty” (like people with mental illness) and she needs some vitamin supplements.

It makes no sense. Still, I hope that Xenu and /or the doctors make sure the babies are born healthy.

PS I agree with Ellen, it’s doubtful the doctors would use her eggs at age 47. Her age alone (not taking his age or their history of genetic issues into account) means there’s a 1 in 20 chance of Down Syndrome. I don’t know stats on other forms of autism or other rarer genetic disorders off hand but I imagine they’re comparable.

  10. Jillian says:

    Good for them.

  11. Tess says:

His eyes do reveal a world of hurt.

Sadly, the whole thing seeems vaguely off to me. Maybe because it’s so soon after their son’s death. Maybe it just kind of smacks of a form of narcissism.

Lose a child?….make a child, hey, make two. No longer fertile? Hey, no problem.

Pregnant at at inconvienient time? That’s no problem, either.

  12. Poopie says:

@whitey fisk : my thoughts exactly; i can’t IMAGINE xenu accepting this kind of medical intervention; maybe tiny tom and david miscavage signed off on it!

  13. Vee says:

I’ll say it. I think they are too old to be making and raising babies. I think what they are doing is selfish.
Now, I am very saddened by the death of their son and feel for them tremendously, I do not hate either of these two people. I just think 47 and 56 is too old and not fair to the kids.

  14. Tru says:

    they had help huh???

I’ll never forget that pic of Travolta kissing a man on his lips, his assistant
as he was getting on his plane..NEVER.

  15. bellaluna says:

I truly feel for them, the devastating loss they’ve suffered with Jett’s death. But this is going too far. I’m not being mean; I’m taking into account their age, the health of the baby(ies), and their very evident grief over a recent loss. I just don’t think it’s a healthy thing, but I wish them well. Xenu (and Battlefield Earth) aside, I’ve always liked John Travolta.

  16. meme says:

I’m with Vee. They are too old to be having twins. Just because they are rich and can afford help doesn’t mean they should have kids at their age. Scientology is fucking weird.

  17. Marjalane says:

Watch out 11, 13, and 15! You’re in for a world of backlash! I made those comments when they first announced the pregnancy and you’de have thought I was the anti-Christ. With all due respect to the losses they’ve suffered, the Travolta’s are an odd couple, and these new births just seem sad to me.

  18. Tazina says:

No they’re not spring chickens, but these children will have a wonderful life. They will be well taken care of financially now and when the parents are gone. They will always know they were wanted and will be loved accordingly…. not like Bristol Palin’s baby who will grow up knowing his mother was “shocked and “humilated” by her pregnancy. These twins will do just fine. The main thing is they are born healthy.

  19. Catherine says:

She is brave. He sure looks so sad still. I hope this brings a little light into their lives.

  20. bellaluna says:

Marjalane – Thanks for the heads-up. I’m genuinely not trying to be mean or insensitive; I just think this may not be the healthiest way to deal with their grief. And any women with a lick of sense would be concerned about her age and the viability of the pregnancy.

That being said, I do hope the babies are healthy, and I do believe the Travoltas love their children and will provide a loving, nurturing home to them. And yes, I agree; these new births have an element of sadness about them.

  21. buellblaster says:

Wanna bet their first words will be Na-Nu Na-Nu.

  22. Kim says:

I know they lost a son and my heart goes out to them but they are WAYYYYYY to old to be having twins. I think its selfish to have kids when that old because you have to think of how old yu will be when child growing up and will you be around to see them grow up, get married, have kids. Living to see their babies have grandkids wont even be an option unless they have babies at 12!

  23. Guest says:

I honestly don’t know where I fall in terms of an opinion on this: I think it’s lovely, happy news for them and their family at a time when they could really use it, and I think this baby(s) are very wanted and will be cherished. I do, however, understand the concerns for the health of Kelly and the child(ren) at the same time. But those who use comments about their ages when the kids are this age or that age, or worry that the kids won’t have as much time with them to claim they disagree with the idea of them having a child(ren) now, I would say to you that there are no certainties in life. I lost my mother young when she became sick and died of cancer. Many other kids have the same thing happen to them. For all we know, the Travoltas are healthy and could live to ripe old ages. For sure they are creating a situation that favors a shorter timeframe with their kids than if they had had them at a younger age, but it is always a risk that anyone having a child takes.

To be honest I think the only reason anyone is concerned about this is HER age – all the time we see old(er) men having children. Look at Larry King for example. There is never much concern, and the same issues apply. While it is fact that older maternal age brings higher chances of genetic and other conditions, I would imagine the Travoltas with their vast wealth and connections are taking every and all precaution and tests to ensure they have a positive outcome. Besides, who’s to say a child born with a genetic disorder or other condition would not be just as much of a blessing for them? Again, they have the money and resources to assist them, no matter what they might face.

  24. original kate says:

    why?

  25. b626 says:

The super rich live so differently than the rest of us.
Kelly will have oodles of Scientology approved help with those high-tech babies.
She’ll lose very little sleep compared to the average mom.
    I’m happy for the Travoltas.
    The arriving babies?
    Not so much.

  26. Leek says:

It’s weird and seems like a bad idea. Travolta looks like he might lose it seeing a baby boy that resembles his dead son. It doesn’t even seem like it’s been enough time to grieve.

  27. Saor says:

Will she have to go through a silent birth?

  28. Maritza says:

They can afford as many kids as they want so why not? Babies bring a lot of joy.John and Kelly look young and healthy, there is no reason why they shouldn’t have kids. As for their beliefs, it’s their business as long as they don’t harm anybody.

  29. Constance says:

I’m heartless to the delusional and what I really feel about this story is posted on a more open-minded humorous celeb blog…

However, I surely co-sign that these people are cruel to try to have IVF babies this late in life. I suppose there are lots of people who don’t care that their children are raised by a team of nannies and assistants. Most likely these two also don’t care that they might die before their kids graduate prep school. Personally, I think it’s disgusting.

These two brainiacs lost their two small dogs by letting them run around a public tarmac in the dark at 1 am. They blamed their “help.” Yes, by all means let your “help” raise your two small babies.

@Guest: ha! Their wealth didn’t help Jett any. They refused to have that child get treatment for the mental and physical disorders that led to his untimely demise.

  30. allison says:

i always wanted twins…what are these celebrities doing so that they’re ALL having them? honestly. Is it this in vitro thing?

  31. Jenny says:

They could have had some of her eggs preserved.

  32. Carrie says:

Congratulations to them! The death of a child is an unimaginable horror, so I’m not at all surprised that after the immediate grief wore off, they tried to have another child.

I have no idea how the baby(s) were conceived, my guess would be some form of medical intervention (fertility shots, IVF, donor eggs, etc.), but who cares how they did it? It only becomes important if they try to pass it off as 100% natural (like Ashton and Demi will inevitably try to do), and then we can all eye-roll about it.

  33. westcoaster says:

I bet Ashton gave Demi a side eye when he heard about the Travolta’s news!

  34. Linda says:

    @Kim-
“Living to see their babies have grandkids wont even be an option unless they have babies at 12!”

    Not necessarily.
My parents “accidentally” conceived me at age 43.

They are now the proud grandparents of my 5 year old daughter and 9 year old son….and I didn’t start my family unitl I was 27.

    Just sayin….

  35. canadianchick says:

They may know the gender from pgd an expensive procedure that tests ivf embryos for genetics problems and can tell gender. Could’ve been her eggs or frozen embies but I’m guessing egg donor-all of which seem so anti-Xenu. I feel for the new babies- that’s a big burden to carry their grief for Jett, all without the help of family therapy as that is also not allowed in CoS. Hope they will be okay. I’m surprised tomkat don’t have their twins yet but its good they are waiting as more recruits for CoS can’t be a good thing.

  36. Crash2GO2 says:

People are evolving to live longer. It just a little longer for the mindsets to evolve as well, as can be seen on this board. 🙂

  37. Mary says:

Im very happy for them. Loosing a child can be TOTALLY devestating. A baby wont replace Jett but might help ease the ache in the heart.

  38. bellaluna says:

Babies or baby, my comments stand.

  39. EB says:

@ Constance – I am cosigning your post. You have hit all the problematic issues on the head. See, I don’t get how people cannot connect the dots with these two. They didn’t care for that boy properly to his ultimately fatal cost. Now they are having another child/ren, and people have complete amnesia where this is concerned.

  40. onyx says:

    demented. truely demented.

  41. Bella Mama says:

good for them. if thats what they want at this stage of their lives, then i’m happy for them.

  42. archiepelago says:

Tazina, I think the comments about them having more kids at their age has less to do with the fact they have money, and the kids will be financially stable, and more to do with the fact that they will soon be too old to enjoy quality of life with them. Having a 67 year old mom and a 74 year old dad at college is not the norm.

That being said, I think the comments about them calling him Jett are a little below the belt. Loss does strange things to people and the loss of a child is perhaps the worst loss of all.

  43. crash2GO2 says:

@Constance: Not entirely true. They did have Jett on Depakote for the seizures, although took him off of them because it did not seem to be helping (which is entirely possible). They are messed up people to be sure, but who isn’t?? We all do our best, and try to learn from our mistakes. I’m certainly not qualified to sit in judgment.

John DOES have sad eyes. Just like Brad Pitt does. Children – they cut us like knives, yet we clasp them to us.

  44. Ana says:

I still don’t understand why they didn’t just adopt Kesha. I refuse to put that dollar sign in her name. Or to pronounce it any other way except for “Kee-sha.”
    Best wishes to them.

  45. jan says:

God bless John Travolta. His eyes are full of pain.

  46. Diana says:

My mother had her last child at 48 – naturally. My brother is a joy and blessing. He’s beautiful, smart, and talented. At 19, he is keeping my mom and dad young at heart. A child is a gift from heaven and apparently God has smiled on the Travoltas. I know Jett would want his parents to be happy and he is smiling down on them.

  47. betsy says:

It is amazing how the Travoltas deny they are having twins yet people still talk like it is fact. No child is replaceable, that is a fact. Until you’ve walked in someone shoes that has lost a child, please don’t judge. Many parents have more children after the death of child/ren.
Diana, I agree with you. Jett is smiling down on his parents and Ella.

  48. Slymm27 says:

Why do you think Jett is smiling down at them, and not smiling up at them? Just asking! Plus, i heard a story that the twins have to be born in a brightly lit spaceship. Is this true?

  49. KarenRw says:

Am glad they are having their OWN baby.

  50. Maddie Bott says:

I do not think she is really pregnant, let along twins. She looks like she is using baby bumps…
