American Idol bans David Archuleta’s stage dad from set

I haven’t watched “American Idol” in weeks, but apparently there is some kind of drama going on with obvious favorite David Archuleta’s dad and the show’s producers. Jeff Archuleta, the overbearing Dadager of this season’s “chosen one,” has been banned from the American Idol set. The 17-year-old David is talented but immensely boring and over-rehearsed, thanks to his bossy dad- and now, that is going to cost the show producers and FOX money in the form of royalties.

TMZ has learned David Archuleta’s dad, Jeff, has been officially banned from “American Idol.”

Here’s how it went down. “Idol” sources tell TMZ Jeff has been a complete pain in the ass, interfering with the entire production. He has badgered producers, the band, vocal coaches and even other contestants. The final straw came this week, when Jeff wanted to change the lyrics to David’s first song, “Stand By Me.” Jeff insisted on adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s hit, “Beautiful Girls.” Producers sent him an e-mail telling him the lyrics could not be changed. They were beyond pissed when David sang the song with Kingston’s lyrics during the live show.

We’re told by changing the lyrics, it created problems with the song’s publisher and cost “A.I.” a lot of money.

Jeff was ordered to sit with “A.I.” lawyers on Wednesday, who told him he was “banned from being in the rooms where David was learning or rehearsing his songs.” It’s “Idol’s” position, since David is 17, he does not need a guardian — just a teacher. Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show but he’s 86’d from anything backstage.

Sources say the other contestants were fed up with Jeff and didn’t want him near them. Now they have their wish.

All in all, sources say Jeff is the stage dad from hell. BTW, he was banned on the set when David did “Star Search” a few years back.

Okay, this is my theory on this story: it’s a big ploy to boost ratings because people aren’t watching this piece of crap show anymore. It’s been obvious since Hollywood week who the judges want to win (David Archuleta), but the problem is, the kid’s not charismatic enough to watch week after week, and the show’s themes and judges are even more boring. So the producers have decided to add a little behind-the-scenes drama to get people talking about it again.

Nice try, FOX- I’m still not watching.

I think nobody is watching any more because someone that can sing really well is no longer something amazing and worth watching or voting for. Wow they can sing! But so could all the contestants last time, and the time before that, and the time before that! There’s only so much about someone singing well that is entertaining. The funniest parts of these shows are the people in the first auditions that are crap, but hilarious.

  2. Syko says:

I don’t watch any more because for me the charm is gone. There’s something cool about watching some farm kid realizing his/her potential and growing week by week (fake though it probably was), but now all the contestants are professionals, and I just don’t care any more.

Nothing wrong with that stage dad a vigorous beating with a 10 pound mike stand can’t fix.

I think is was here or at another site that it was predicted that this would occur. On the first night that the parents were in the audience, someone made mention that he would cause issues just on sight alone.

As for the show and viewership. It is still #1 but I think the backlash is against that wierd haired dude from last season. They had another version of that this year, but she was a pretty blonde with no stage presense. As for knowing who would win….Paula made mention of a fabulous young boy that would blow us away….foreshadowing or scripted?

David Archuleta has all the charisma of a Cabbage Patch Doll (and looks like one too). David Cook has more talent than all the rest of them put together but for reasons best known to the producers, he’s not The Chosen One.

  6. Neelyo says:

I agree with Syko. All of the contestants are so calculated now that the appeal of the first two seasons is gone.

I wonder if David Archuleta even enjoys singing or he just happens to be good at it. He never looks like he’s having any fun . He reminds me of the dummy from MAGIC.

Does anyone know what lyric he changed?

I had a feeling this would happen. I watch the show once in a while. I quit watching this season a few weeks ago. I cannot freaking stand this kid. I would leave the room everytime he sang. My husband would yell at me saying, “He’s only 17, stop making fun of him.” Seriously, he’s good but he isn’t THAT good. Everyone knows that this show is completely based on talent it’s based on popularity. I think the only reason he is still in is b/c everyone 12 year old girl on the planet is in love with him. I’m sure they are the majority of the votes, I mean, how many 30 year olds spend all night on Tuesday trying to call?

At first I liked David very much, but after listening to him over the past season, he has the sound that is a lot like Josh Groban, it’s basically the same sound over and over and over and over again. He’s quite boring… as far as his Father… well, that’s another story.. If David wants to make it, he’d best ditch the old man…

  11. This loaded up really fast for me and its exactly what Im looking for. Thanks
