Brad Pitt & Zahara have a daddy-daughter outing at an American Girl store

On Saturday, Brad Pitt took his little Empress out for a birthday party. Reports suggest that it was Chris Cornell’s daughter’s birthday party, and that it was held at The American Girl store at The Grove. We don’t have access to any of the photos of Empress Zahara, alas, but you can see one here. You can see that The Empress is not amused with all of these shenanigans. It will be much different when she assumes power. Anyway, Brad looks good, doesn’t he? But he also looks different – CB thinks he had his eyes done or maybe got some fillers, but my suspicion is that Brad is just getting relatively jowly as he ages. Something is going on with his jaw and his jowls… and I think it’s just some weight gain and age. Whatever… here’s more on the party:

Brad Pitt escorted his adorable daughter Zahara to a birthday party in L.A. Saturday -Zahara was a guest at the 6th birthday party of her friend Toni Cornell, daughter of rocker Chris Cornell. It was held at every Hollywood girl’s favorite spot, the American Girl store at The Grove shopping center.

Brad Pitt took some time off shooting the baseball drama Moneyball to hang with 5-year-old daughter Zahara. Donning his usual newsboy cap, the actor, 46, was photographed holding the girl’s hand at a birthday party for rocker Chris Cornell’s daughter Toni at the American Girl store in Los Angeles.

A witness tells UsMagazine.com: “Several little girls were invited to the party and Zahara arrived with Brad around noon. Word quickly spread around that they were at the Grove and a big scene formed outside. Brad was very cordial to fans. As they left, he waved and gave a thumbs up to everyone. He held Zahara’s hand, and she looked very happy. She had a goodie bag from American Girl place that she opened as soon as she got in the car.”

Zahara – whom Pitt and longtime love Angelina Jolie adopted from Ethiopia in 2006 – has “got an extraordinary voice,” Jolie, 35, recently gushed to Vanity Fair. She added that their daughter also is “just so elegant and well spoken.”

[From Us Weekly & Radar]

Aw, some father-daughter bonding at the American Girl store. That’s so cute. Question: the American Girl store has black dolls, right? Or do they only carry white dolls? Nevermind, I just looked it up. They do have dark-skinned dolls! Good for them.

Also – E! News put up this video of what went down when Brad and Zahara were trying to leave – the paparazzi frenzy is really crazy:

I can’t get past the Val Kilmer resemblence as he ages.

  2. Whatever says:

Aww, so cute. My girls love the American Girl store.

  3. RHONYC says:

those dolls freak me out, man!!! 🙁

  4. Praise St. Angie! says:

how about some pics of Chris Cornell, as he is WAY hotter than Mr. Pitt?

    😀

(unless you can include him in Hot Guy Friday…)

  5. mln says:

I feel bad that the poor kid can’t go to a B-day party without getting mobbed by the paps.

  6. Malorie says:

Talking just about how strange he looks: What has he done to his double chin? Not that he had it, but now he looks strange in that area. I bet that was the reason why he was wearing that goaty beard last year…

  7. 2005 not 2006 says:

Zahara was adopted in 2005, not 2006. Look at bill Pitt or even Doug Pitt to solve the “mystery” of Brad’s face…it’s called genetics. Only one person needs to love that face- Angie. Hollywood seems to like it ok,too. Brad may have an aging face, but those arms are amazing…lifting babies is a good workout.

  8. hanh says:

Yeah that is sad that she can’t go anywhere without getting press mobbed. Of course, nobody can keep quiet when they see them anyway. The tabloids have informants everywhere in Hollywood and the American Girl place would be a popular place to celeb watch.

At least they had some peace and quiet inside I hope!

  9. JustBe says:

I get the impression that Empress Z is a daddy’s girl. She seems so happy when she is in his presence!

  10. Nanea says:

The way those paparazzi all but jump on the car’s hood makes me think they’ve never heard of long lonses, and the way they scream makes them seem as if they’ve lost it.

  11. Tess says:

You know, I think we’re being played folks.

I don’t believe for a minute that if he wanted some private, no paps time with his daughter, he couldn’t arrange it. He could go to another city, a smaller, low key place and travel incognito quite easily.

  12. Gemini says:

Not one actual picture of Zahara!

  13. mln says:

@ Tess they went to a BIRTHDAY PARTY! and they are leaving by the service entrance-the only solution would have been for Zee not to go to the party and then everyone would be complaining that she doesn’t have friends.
BTW there are papped photos of this family in every corner of the globe they sell mags and paps are willing to follow them anywhere.
I just feel bad for her that she doesn’t get to have privacy, when doing a normal kid thing.

  14. flourpot says:

I don’t like those dolls. They have the token black, brown and yellow – and the rest are pure white. And they’re expensive. Rag dolls, all the way.

  15. Tess says:

    @ min….you’re right. I didn’t read the story carefully.

  16. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I hate that people act so weird, like they have no respect for his child being there with him. No Zee doesn’t look amused but she seems used to it, they got right in the car.

American Girl has all sorts of dolls and I don’t know what company just makes only white dolls. I loved American Girl growing up. I never actually had one of the dolls, just the books.

  17. whatever says:

Why didn’t Shiloh attend this birthday party? I am sure they invited both little girls…

Oh wait, her parents want to provide the image to the public that Shiloh would rather be a boy. So can’t have her show up at a girls birthday party, at a doll store, having fun doing “girly” things. It certainly would ruin that image they are making out of that beautiful child.

  18. serena says:

Brad always had that jaw, only that we’re not that used to see it anymore (cause of the beard). But he seems fine to me, and I laugh it off when I read that he had something done. That’s ridiculous, ’cause I think Brad isn’t the type to do that.

  19. Cheyenne says:

@”whatever”: Of all the dumb comments. Sisters don’t have to be invited to the same birthday party. Z has her friends and Shiloh has hers. Besides, who wants their little sister tagging along at a party for big kids (6 year olds)?

@Gemini: Kaiser posted links to USMag and Radar. Click on either one to see a pic of Z.

  20. Kim says:

Yeah ,Whatever ,that’s why Shiloh and Zahara attended dance class together last year .Maybe Brad prefers to spend time with his first daughter , Zahara- his favorite. Im’ kidding but it drives me crazy when Zahara the oldest girl is relegated to second class status because she isn’t white, blonde and blue eyed or because she is adopted.I’ve seen countless pics of Shiloh in the park in Venice where the mags and sites chose to crop out the older kids and only feature Shiloh. This has been going on for years like when People magazine put ony Shiloh on the cover of the twins issues. Zahara is just as beautiful and unique as Shiloh IMO.

  21. Tazina says:

Shiloh was not there because this is Zahara’s friend. Zahaara is almost six and Shiloh is 4. Of course they are going to have different friends. They’re not twins for heavens’ sake. Some people just look for something to complain about.

  22. WhoDat says:

Hey kaiser, i guess CB looked, with her laser eyes, through Brad’s glasses and saw that he had work done on his eyes, right? (Insert rolled eyes here)

  23. spinner says:

Come on…Brad definitely had some work done. You can totally see it. And so what?? In his line of business he has to look good for as long as possible.

  24. truthSF says:

It’s always a beautiful thing when I get to see a glimpse of our Empress!!

  25. P.J. says:

Maybe the snitch was someone who works in the American Girl store — it would be great publicity for the store.

Another possibility is the parents of the birthday girl or parents of other party guests who were there with their kids.

  26. Rina says:

Why ask about 4 year old Shiloh? Toni is 6, Zahara is almost 6. As already said they are not twins. Children do have separate friends you know. Such silliness.

  27. DiMi says:

It bothers me that I have NEVER seen Zahara with another black person. NEVER. I live in L.A., and the Grove is just down the street from Little Ethiopia, which is where Brad could have taken her so she could see a few black people for once, and specifically Ethiopian-Americans. She shouldn’t have to wait to visit Ethiopia every few years to see other black people.

White parents who adopt non-white children must make sure that their children have sustained access to people who look like them or they will have problems later in life. (I’ve seen it, and it’s very sad.) At least the two adopted boys, who are Asian though different ethnicities, have each other. Of course, I have never seen them with other Asian Americans although there are significant Cambodian and Vietnamese communities in Los Angeles.

Zahara is the only black person in that family and is constantly racially isolated except for possibly a servant or nanny. Notice that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, whom I rarely compliment, made sure that their black son had constant access to Will Smith and his family. I don’t think that was an accident. I think they wanted their kid to see some black people who weren’t serving them. Zahara is a beautiful little girl, and it concerns me that she is so racially isolated. At least they’ve finally started combing her lovely hair.

  28. Jello says:

Wow the pap craziness around that car is freaking incredible, emphasize on freaking.

  29. mln says:

@poster 27 I believe Brad’s sister adopted Ethiopian boys so she actually has African 1rst cousins and Angie spoke about visiting Africa with the children. BTW Brad has been seen going to football games w/ Spike Lee and his kids.

  30. Moreaces says:

@ Whatever, that comment was just plan ignorant, I have a sister and when we were children we had our own separate friends imagine that.. And as for your assumption that Brad and Angie are molding Shi to be a boy,, who really does that,, I mean who,, right,, No one because it is insane,, children have these things called personnalites,, and not all are the same,, smh

  31. Rina says:

Brad’s sister has adopted 2 little boys from the same orphanage as Zahara was adopted from. The JoliePitt kids are seldom seen in LA. Zahara does go to a school that has pupils of all cultures. TomC did not take Conner around people of color when he was younger, and has not been a huge WillS pal for 15 years of Conner’s life.

I doubt Zahara has or will have problems knowing who she is. She like her siblings is exposed to a great variety of people and cultures by her parents.

This is nonsense to me as the public sees only a fraction of their actual lives in pap pics.

  32. Kim says:

Brad’s sister has 2 Ethiopian sons I think they are 4 and 5 y.o.They also have an Black Congolese nanny I saw her in a pic in Venice. Brad and Angie have talked about exposing their kids to their native country, In terms of foods, holidays etc. Brad mentioned on the Larry King that the kids know their native countries anthems and where they are on the globe. As for Tom Cruise he mentioned on Oprah last year that he has never discussed race with Connor never discussed with him how to deal with racism etc. Oprah was shocked . Connor is 15 Zahara is 5 So IMO
Brad and Angie are instilling pride in all their kids. Also they are building a Zahara Jolie Pitt HIV/AIDS clinic in Ethiopia. Btw they have Asian nannies too . We don’t know if they spend time with the family members of these nannies. Kimora Lee Simmons mentioned having play dates with the JPkids also there were pics of her in June with Angie at a school fair. The kids attend the same private school with her girls. When we see Zahara in public she is always with her family . We witness less than 1% of the kids lives. Zahara is seen for Maybe 5 minutes every couple of weeks on average.Oh yeah on celebritybabyscoop.com someone said Zahara and Toni Cornell(bday girl) are classmates

  33. Camille says:

Brad still has ‘It’. For a man his age he looks just as hot as ever. Zahara is beautiful.

  34. DiMi says:

Arguing that having a black nanny is a form of cultural affirmation is offensive. Having a black employee is not the same as having a black community. That just conveys the message that black people serve rich people. There were millions of black mammies during slavery, and it didn’t seem to make slaveholding southerners culturally sensitive. That logic is ahistorical and absurd.

I’m glad Brad Pitt’s sister adopted those kids, but having Ethiopian cousins who live ACROSS the country and visiting Ethiopia for a few days every other year is NOT the same as having people who look like you around AS EQUALS on a constant basis.

Yes, I know Brad has black friends and has dated black women (Thandie Newton and Robin Givens.) That is not the same as providing your black child with a culturally affirming environment on a sustained level.

Zahara’s life is very well-documented. I have seen hundreds – and I mean hundreds – of pictures of that little girl, and I’ve never seen ONE of her with a black person of any ethnicity or nationality. And nobody else here has either because if you had, you would have mentioned it. It’s because they don’t exist. She’s just never around black people. It is damaging to racially isolate a child in that manner.

  35. Cheyenne says:

@DiMi: How do you know Z is never around black people? Have you been to her school? Have you met all her teachers? Do you know for a fact that there are no other black children or black teachers in the school? Do you know for a fact that there are no black people living in her area? Do you know how she spends every minute of every day of her life and the ethnicity of everyone she interacts with?

You sound like a nitwit. Next thing you’ll be saying Brad and Angie are committing cultural genocide or something equally idiotic.

  36. nnn says:

    @35

Oh please ! I am a Black/Mixed raced European, second generation and the first time I have had an African friend, and i mean african, it was at 18 at college.

Like many other Black folks, in a country where we were very, very few, we usually were the only black child of the class, still we are perfectly balanced and probably knows better about our african heritage than the average African American.

It’s not the race, community that actually shape a child, its knowledge, it’s the capacity for a child to open up to a world full of diversity and to absorb all the beautiful things it has to offer from different communities.

And one more thing, just because you are Black doesn’t automatically make you more aware and proud of your african/black roots. I have met people who are black with no sense of their african/black heritage whatosever and who didn’t care at all while other, white people who have spent more times or just fell in love with the Contient or just have been around more Africans than myself who actually taught me more about my backgroud. Besides there is not one single ‘africanity’, the same way that an englishman is not an italian and that there are at times more similarity culturilly wise btween a sicillian and a central african than between an italian and a scandinavian.

The world is diverse even between so called communities.

Zahara is an African American from Ethiopia, she probably has learned more about her african background and native country where communities doesn’t exist, and has probably a sense of africanity and an african sense more developped than the average African American which is different.

She lives in various countries which also shape her personality as a citizen of the world.

In any way, the most important for a child, any child is to have loving parents who can accompany her in her inner development as a great adult, who help her develop and shape her skills, who have the times and the means to develop her interest for various backgrounds and her sense of social skills with other peoples from different cultures as the communities definition is not even the same from country to country.

She is an African American citizen but mainly an African AND an American with a sense of citizen of the world being surrounding by siblings with different backgroundS and having more access to her and their respective background than the average person wether Black, White or latino. Her Multiculture is a richness where she can take things and shape herself in a world in mutation and where she can have access to any places she wants and decide later where she fits in and wants to live.

All the raising concerns should focus on good education instead on how to fit people into their communtities as a way to guarantee a well rounded individual well fitted in her skin. When we know that most African-American are very critical about Z natural hair like they are ashamed of it, ignoring in the process that contrary to the US, it is actually the vast majority of ethiopian and easteran african children her age that let it au natural….just like Liya Kebede’s daughter. Putting cornows and plaits is a bantu thing (western and central africa mainly) and ethiopians like erythreans and somali are not bantus, they are nilotics as we say in french and they often let their usually smooth hair au natural, like in a fro, it’s a sense of pride for them.

And as for the belgian congolese nanny, she is not the only nanny they have, she is one of them and if my memories serves me well, she speaks french (the offical language of the congo and one of the official in Belgium) with them, and probably give them access to congolese music which is to Africa what the american is to the world, the most popular music heard throughout the continent, ethiopia included. So again, she has access to her african heritage much more than the average african american. And she has access to others cultures which is always a good thing to shape the personality and to develop curiosity, to strenghten the intellect through different languages, different sensitivities, different ways to see the word and to be perceived sometimes totally different from one country to another.

  37. flourpot says:

Jeez Dimi! We all just found out that Facts of Life girl is one of the kid’s godparent. No one had a clue that they even knew each other. How can you actually say that there are no other black people in her life when you have no freaking clue what kind of life they actually lead, out of the public eye.

  38. mln says:

@35 You have seen hundred of pictures of that child getting in and out of cars and in and out of airplanes and going from the store to hotel rooms But you know nothing about her real life … You have never seen her interacting in private, you don’t know who her friends are, and who she spends time with.

  39. Maritza says:

Brad is still gorgeous! How lucky for Zahara to have a special day with her daddy.

  40. dovesgate says:

You don’t get to see pictures of the kid while she is at school, people who visit her house, or playdates with other kids. So really, how do you know what races she comes into contact with on a daily basis? You may have seen hundreds of pictures of Zahara but she still has a life beyond whats shown in the tabloids.

  41. DiMi says:

Like I said, argue all you want, but still nobody’s ever seen her with another black person, and she is one of the most photographed children/people on the planet. We have seen her photographed on almost every continent. You can “imagine” and “pretend” that she is around other black people, but I’ll believe it when I actually see it. Again, Los Angeles has one of the largest Ethiopian communities in the country. She doesn’t have to wait until she goes to Africa every few years to connect with Ethiopian culture. Also, the kids are only in regular schools sporadically because they travel so much so most of their time is spent within their family network in which she is the only black person. I still think it’s troubling.

  42. Anna says:

Empress Zahara has no equals! Brad and Angelina have Black associates; I’m sure that Zahara has met their children.

  43. Sakyiwaa says:

i think it’s silly to think by now Zee hasn’t met any black people when we live in such a global village. i live in Africa and i’m a fan of the Jolie-Pitts cos of the internet. Plus, i know the Jolie-Pitts dont stay in one place all 365 days of the year. really…(eye roll) dislikers(my new moniker for ‘haters’), you should get more imaginative

  44. Praise St. Angie! says:

“nobody’s ever seen her with another black person”

oh, have you spoken to EVERY PERSON ON THE PLANET?

because that’s what you’d have to do to prove your statement as fact.

DiMi, just stop…you’re only making yourself sound more foolish.

  45. olivia says:

So glad to see “eco-friendly” Brad ‘pitt rode around in his “green” SUV 🙁

  46. Nia says:

DiMi, I understand completely where you’re coming from.
But listen, you’re not going to get much success making your point on a forum such as this one. This is mainly a celeb/gossip blog.
Word of advice: Conserve your legitimate frustration over this matter and make your point more effectively elsewhere where it’s going to really make a difference.

  47. Cheyenne says:

@Nia: I don’t know where such a ridiculous POV could make a difference or even be heard seriously, except in a forum such as the NABSW (National Association of Black Social Workers) whose official position is that all transracial adoptions are tantamount to cultural genocide and would rather see a black child grow up in an orphanage than with a loving and caring white family. That’s the main reason I have never joined that organization. A child needs a family. Period.

  48. Nia says:

@Cheyenne, and responses like yours are EXACTLY why I advised DiMi that she is wasting her time trying to get her point across on a forum like this. Show me exactly where in any of DiMi’s comments did she EVER say that black children should only be adopted by black families, or that it is preferable that a black child should suffer in an orphanage rather than be adopted by a white family.

But it is typical for people to throw these types of insulting, straw-men arguments around whenever this issue comes up, all in an attempt to deflect from some of the real, if not-so-obvious, issues that DiMi tried to raise.
Anyone trying to throw in a ridiculous straw-man like that, is really not interested in engaging in good-faith re: a discussion on transracial adoption. I have a close family member who has recently started the adoption process, and it is something I will also be starting myself soon, so I guess this issue hits quite close to home for me.
However, I’ll let DiMi speak for herself now, if she is still around, that is.

  49. anon says:

    @nnn:@Cheyenne: @dovesgate: @Praise St. Angie!:
Thank you ladies for responding to the comments about Z. I read the thread late last night and I was confident there would be reasonable responses to the suggestion that Z is never photographed or with black people.
@Nia while I disagree with the posters premise, that you understand. I do agree with you that perhaps there are better forums for the point of view expressed.

  50. Cheyenne says:

@Nia: DiMi’s entire premise was ridiculous and wasn’t worth repeating anywhere. On the basis of some photographs she’s seen in the tabloids she says “Z is never around black people”. She knows NOTHING of Z’s school, her classmates, her teachers, her friends outside of school, her neighbors, etc. etc., yet she still feels free to make a ridiculous assertion based on her extremely limited observations. Then to make it even worse, she says “nobody’s ever seen her around another black person”, raising the question of just who is “nobody”. I don’t need to explain to you how stupid that statement is. But if she expects to be taken seriously in any forum, she’d better bring something more than what she posted on this one.

  51. Kim says:

DIMI ,Michelle Pfiefer, Joely Fisher, Mary Louise Parker, Hugh Jackman, all have Black kids yet I have never seen any of them with Black people. Which means none of them know any black people, right… Because if there is no pic of it … As for Tom Cruise there was never any pic of Connor with the Smith Family or any other Black person until about 4-5 years years ago so I guess Connor never interacted with a Black Person until he was 10. GMAB

  52. PantheraNoir says:

DiMi, you’re views are appalling. You want to know why you don’t see her interacting with black people let alone ANY person? The paparazzi are only interested in pictures of her because HER parents are famous. They could care less about her friends. Try looking at pictures of other famous children. It’s the same thing. You’re letting your ignorant oversensitive views on race cloud reality. It’s really unbecoming. I understand that you care about Zahara’s well being but you act like a know it all but you haven’t met the family personally. Have you ever thought how awesome it is for her to be exposed to all the cultures of the world when she travels or just when she is in the comfort of her own home? How do these allegations of mammies come up? I’ve only seen her have a white nanny. You’re going on and on about things that are completely irrelevant. The bottom line is she is in a loving home with her brothers and sisters. Reading this nonsense is just saddening. What you and the rest of the world sees are children of famous parents regardless of skin tone and I think that you’re views that you are portraying are offensive, small minded and borderline racist. Open your eyes and look at the positives for a change.
