Helen Mirren is the new spokesperson for Wii in the UK

Helen Mirren, 65, is the lovely spokesmodel for Wii Fit Plus in new UK ads. It looks like Nintendo is trying to appeal to active older adults as well as their family base. Helen may have earned herself a nice gig by talking up Wii Fit in interviews earlier this year. She’s quoted as saying in May that the Wii Fit is her “new best friend.” She went on to say that the workout options are “infinitely varied. You can hula, jog, yoga, step, all in one session. You need never get bored as every day you can tailor a new workout. ‘It challenges you, and you do it at home, so nobody need see you in those old yoga pants and torn t-shirt.”

Helen Mirren just told a UK magazine that there were parts of her below the waist that she didn’t like much. Her solution? The Oscar-winner is stepping onto the Nintendo Wii.

Mirren — who recently went topless for New York Magazine — has just been tapped to promote Wii Fit Plus in the company’s UK holiday campaign.

Take that, Jane Fonda!

Glad in chic workout wear — slim drawstring pants and wraparound tops — the inspirational “gramazon” breaks a sweat as she exercises using the interactive fitness system. Hot dame!

“This year’s star line-up is the best yet, demonstrating the wide appeal of Nintendo products,” Nintendo UK marketing director Dawn Paine says in the release. “This Christmas, with the help of our celebrity friends, we will be helping the nation play together and have fun whatever their age.”

Sadly, the ads won’t be hitting U.S. TV screens, but that doesn’t mean we can’t bust a move Mirren-style. Sixty-something six-pack, here we come!

[From Popeater]

I lost some weight with Wii Fit, the original version. It wasn’t that it was difficult exercise, although I enjoyed it. I used the weight tracking feature and was motivated to keep making the graph go down by watching what I ate. The Wii is a great game console for families and we all play it in our house. I know that Playstation has better games and better graphics, but Wii seems more fun and less complicated somehow, not that you have to chose one or the other.

Getting back to Helen Mirren, while I was looking for her potential Wii commercial (with no luck) I found this gem of an interview with her in 1975. She was just 31 at the time and so lovely and self assured. The interviewer was kind of an idiot and kept fawning over her appearance and asking her if her gorgeousness interfered with her acting. 35 years later and we’re still enamored with Dame Mirren. I’m pretty sure she just sold me a Wii Fit Plus upgrade and I haven’t even seen her commercial yet.

You’ll probably eventually find the commercial on Youtube.

At the risk of seeming very repetitive, she is a knockout in that red dress. Wii obviously knows what it is doing in picking her.

    “Wii”, Raven? You mean Nintendo?

If I look half as good as she does when I’m 65, I’ll be a happy woman.

I’ve had a girlcrush, or rather a mature woman crush, on Dame Helen ever since White Nights which I only watched because of Misha B.

  7. skibunny says:

Wow! I actually find her more attractive as a mature woman. Doesn’t make me feel so bad about one day becoming sixty five.
