Hilary Swank underwhelms in Donna Karan at London ‘Conviction’ premiere

These are photos from the London premiere (at the London Film Festival) of Conviction, that Hilary Swank film that is getting so much attention because of Gloria Allred and Hilary’s sketchy styling (seriously, I can’t believe I’m doing so many Hilary fashion posts). As for Hilary’s Donna Karan dress… well. I really, really liked it when I saw the thumbnail of it. That happens to me all the time – sometimes a dress looks really cute in the thumbnails, and then you see it blown up and look at the detailing and how it’s fitting on her body, and all of a sudden, the eye is no longer fooled. This is one of those times. It could have been a show-stopper dresser… but it’s just not… on Hilary. The fabric isn’t sitting right on her waist and hips, and the neck is much too high. I will give her points on hair and makeup though – this is the best she’s looked from the neck up in weeks.

Minnie Driver (who is in the film too) had the exact opposite effect. When I looked at the thumbnails, I thought this Marchesa dress was horrible. The necklace is not a necklace – it’s built into the dress. And the color could come across as just a shade too garish. And yet… it really works on her. The effect is really pretty. Okay, it’s a little pageanty. But pretty.

And of course, my lover Sam Rockwell was there. It’s like he knew what I wanted and he decided to give me a little present. His hair…okay, his hair is still questionable, but the scruffy little beard is giving me a fever, and he’s making some really sexy/hot/funny faces at the camera. So it’s a win for me. Okay, I hate the tie. It would look better on my wrists, ya know?

Hahaha. You kill me! That tie.

  2. devilgirl says:

I think Hillary looks rather nice.

  3. Liana says:

Hillary Swank always underwhelms me. There’s just something about her I don’t like.

  4. Lady D says:

    Gorgeous dress.

  5. chasingadalia says:

If she carried herself better and wasn’t always meek looking, that dress would look a thousand times better.

  6. albeli says:

I can’t stand Swank, and I think she looks great here–gorgeous gown and she looks less mannish than usual.

    Minnie’s looking really rough.

  7. Isa says:

Generally speaking, I think celebrities should just stay away from material that looks like tin foil.

  8. Samigirl says:

@isa, I’m with you. She looks like the silver surfer.

  9. blinditemreader says:

    Minnie looks hungry.

  10. K-MAC says:

Minnie looks incredible!!!!! I must say that I do love that dress on Hilary and I think she looks wonderful!

  11. Ann says:

Hillary’s dress looks absolutely fab. Anything works on her body.

  12. hellen says:

If Hilary would just STAND UP STRAIGHT she would look 100% better in everything she wears, even if it’s ugly.

Melonhead looks dreadful. That built-in craft project necklace and random belt destroys what would otherwise be a beautiful color on her.

  13. Eleonor says:

Finally I can get on this site! I read on Fb you had problems, I hope everything is fine now!
Hillary Swank looks gorgeus in that dress.

  14. Taurus says:

I think the dress is fabulous. The neck line is a little too much and the waist could have been a little bit more cinched too. I think it would of been a lot more sleeker. I could totally see Kate Hudson or Heidi Klum in this dress too.

    MJ FOR HGF!

  15. guesty says:

i like hilary’s dress & the fit especially on her hips…minnie’s not so much. & that tie…circa 1970.

  16. Felicia says:

Protecting yourself from mind control…you’re doing it wrong!

  17. Lydia says:

That dress is gorgeous. Minnie Driver’s is too.

  18. Cheyenne says:

I like the dress but not with Swank in it.

It doesn’t matter what she puts on, she still looks like Seattle Slew.

  19. CharleyHorse says:

they both look lovely … both dresses are a bit different and they both pull them off…i’m more a minnie fan than a swank, but they both can act so in my estimation, they’re way ahead of the usual “girls” that show up on this site..we should be happy there are still good actresses out there making watchable movies…

  20. SolitaryAngel says:

What is going on with Minnie’s chin?!!

  21. PrettyTarheel says:

Ok, I give up, I must ask because I’ve seen this multiple times, and I’m sure I’m going to feel like an idiot once I hear the answer but..
    who the EFF is MJ?

  22. chasingadalia says:

    @PrettyTarheel

It better not stand for a certain deceased musician, that’s all I can say.

I vote David Tennant for HGF.

  23. PrettyTarheel says:

I can only come up with Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, Marc Jacobs, Mick Jagger, Magic Johnson, and Maurice Jones (Drew). Of those, the only 2 that really qualify for me or Jordan and Marc Jacobs-sort of.

  24. Isa says:

I think Kaiser or someone said that MJ standed for Michael Jackson and she wasn’t going to put him on HGF. I also think she threatened to ban if he kept being requested…but maybe that was a joke?

  25. jj says:

WHY are you always on Swank’s case? The dress is gorgeous and she looks gorgeous, too.

Three cheers for a celeb who doesn’t have her nose fixed, teeth capped, skin painted orange, hair bleached out, and face botoxed to death.

  26. bitca says:

Nice to see Hil Swank & Minnie D in a film together. Both are v talented but lack the cookie-cutter look H’wood seems to demand from women now. Guess they are not struggling to meet their rent each month, but it is annoying to see the diff gender treatment in 21st C every time i dip back into my ‘classic’ 1970’s movie cache & watch male funny-valentine-icons of the era such as Dustin Hoffman, (my beloved) Gene Hackman, J Nicholson, Pacino, et al.
@Chasingdahlia: sure, 2nd on D Tennant for HGF. He’s adorable & it’ll make my former Brit-boss super-happy (C Eccleston is MY fave Dr Who–& Matt is adorable… but DT was voted all-time Top-Who in some poll).

PS: Sam Rockwell is brilliant. Have <3 ed him since the Chuck Barris biopic.

  27. Lynnie says:

For the love of God, will someone please feed Hillary Swank?

  28. SammyHammy says:

Mick Jagger? MICK JAGGER? For HGF?

    Ewwwwwww!!!!!!!!

  29. bros says:

id die for both those dresses. i actually think hillary is pulling off the silver dress, and minnie hasnt ever looked this fashion forward and polished.

  30. mystified says:

Why has no one commented on Hilary’s horrible hair coloring? That blonde on bottom/4″ of brown roots looks horrible. I had that look once too but I had an excuse: I was pregnant and afraid to dye my hair. The make-up looks good though.

  31. I Choose Me says:

Jewel tones! I like Minnie’s dress. The best I can say about Hilary’s dress is that I don’t hate it. Kaiser, shame on you for not commenting on the tongue action Sam is offering in that last pic. 😀

    @Felicia – Ha!

  32. Crash2GO2 says:

I’m going to disagree with you Kaiser on Hilary’s dress – I think it fits her well and looks good. Her makeup does look good here as well (as you said).

    Minnie looks fabulous.

Really don’t care for the ratty looking guy though…
