Hilary Swank’s dress at the ‘Conviction’ screening: cute or tragic?

wenn5556282

These are pics of Hilary Swank at last night’s screening of Conviction (promoted by The Innocence Project), the film I keep hearing about but have no interest in seeing. First, what I like: the color is gorgeous, the top half of the dress is very beautiful, and it compliments Hilary’s long neck and larger bust. I also like that she styled her hair down – she doesn’t look quite as horsey when she wears it down. The bottom half of the dress… well… I hate it. It’s cut too high, and there are a couple of photos where I swear I saw a flash of something vagina-esque. I also f-cking hate the shoes. Just standing alone, I would find them tacky, but they’re WAY too matchy-matchy with the dress. But overall, the whole effect of this is… not horrible. Not great either.

The screening wasn’t all gladiator heels and vadge-flashes, though. Sam Rockwell was there. He’s been my main crush this week. I always love a dose of Rockwell with my steady diet of Gerard and Clive and Gandy… but ever since I saw Iron Man 2, I can’t get him out of my head this week. He’s always so good when he gets to play smarmy! To me, his preening, incompetent bureaucrat-CEO was a better (and more realistic) villain than Mickey Rourke. I have no clue what’s going on with his hair, though. This hair is making him look ratty. To make up for this horrible photo of him, I’m adding some extra photos from the past month:

You don’t have to match every element of your outfit, you’re not Stephanie van der Kellen.

Cute and I love the shoes. Short is in and even if it is kinda short the top is very classy.

Agree with you on the outfit – nice color, cut way too high, and fug shoes.

Thanks for the extra pics of my little pocket rocket, though – loves me some Sam Rockwell!

As far as the dress goes – I think it would look TOTALLY different if the shoes were different.

The shoes kill it and she looks uncomfortable in it. She standing hunched because she probably thinks her bits might be showing too.

I’d like those shoes if they were gold. You’re right, they’re too matchy matchy, but if the shoes were gold, I think it would really set off the color of the dress. Paired with some chunky gold jewelry.

waist up beautiful! waist down.. NO!!!
she looks so uncomfortable. Don’t they try these things on before they wear them? I don’t understand how these things happen.. they just do what their people tell them?

I like the dress. Thumbs down on the matchy shoes tho. Along with the matchy earings and nail polish.

  16. Scarlet Vixen says:

I always feel like she’s trying too hard. Like, she knows how masculine her face is, and that she got famous playing a transgendered character, so she always dresses too sexy to counteract her man/horse face. But most of the time it doesn’t work–it only makes her look like a drag queen.

  17. Ellen Smith says:

Failure! What is it with these stars and their lack of style? The dress looks like a cheap (and I’m sure it is expensive) polyester number and the shoes and toenail polish are trailer trash looking (but then again, didn’t she grow up in a trailer park?)

I guess I’m in the minority. I absolutely LOVE the shoes! They would be awesome with a neutral for a pop of color for myself. I’m just a sucker for an eye-catching sandal.

    @Jo ‘Mama’ Besser
I agree with you I hate when people do that. My mom does that and she tries to implant it into me as well.

  24. Tia C says:

The dress wouldn’t be so bad without those hideous shoes. When oh when will this “gladiator” sandal trend die??!! They don’t look flattering on anyone. The waistline of the dress is the weak point, but overall it’s a cute dress. I don’t know why some are criticizing her hair, i think it looks fine. Hilary is not known for being overly glam anyway.

Love the dress but I think the look would be better if she paired the dress with some nude pumps instead.

Her face is her face, people, unless you’re so much prettier leave her be!

She looks great and I love that she tries different things. You rarely get the same old little black dress with her, so at least she’s interesting.

Hilary needs to either get a stylist or fire the one she has & get a new one. She hasn’t looked good on a carpet since way before her divorce.

Hilary’s got a hot bod. I don’t mind the dress – the shoes are fab. It really doesn’t matter what she wears though, she will always look like her character in Boys Don’t Cry to me. I know that’s terrible but it’s the truth!
