Lea Michele goes demure: much better or too “old”?

wenn3087788

These are photos of Lea Michele from last night’s party for TV Guide. A bunch of Glee people showed up, but Lea is the one I noticed, just because of this dress. Now, it’s no secret that Lea has lost quite a lot of weight over the past few months (because she’s “vegan” now), and it’s also no secret that she’s really, really proud of her new figure, because she’s been showing it off in skimpy clothes and posing spread-eagle in men’s magazines (more on that in a second). Now – what do you think of the way Lea looks here? I actually think she’s put on a few pounds (her face doesn’t look so emaciated and drag queeny) and I like she’s covered up and almost demure. That being said, I still think it’s hilarious that she plays a teenage character. She looks about 40 years old.

Anyway, Lea was also one of the quests on Conan O’Brien’s debut show, and she discussed the GQ controversy again:

Lea Michele has said that the Glee cast were just having fun when they shot their GQ cover. The actress and her castmates Dianna Agron and Cory Monteith faced criticism earlier this year from some groups who felt the photospread in the magazine was too racy for their fanbase.

“I don’t think we ever thought it would be as big of a deal as it became,” Michele told Conan O’Brien on last night’s premiere episode of his new TBS show Conan. “We were just having fun and obviously never intended to upset or offend anybody. Our photographer Terry Richardson is such an icon [so] we were just having a good time.”

O’Brien then suggested that he could make the photographs less sexy by inserting a photograph of himself from high-school next to an image of Michele, to which she joked: “You look oddly air-brushed and pale!”

Michele also shared another story involving herself and magazines, telling the audience about her recent cover shoot for the October issue of Glamour.

“They sent me some photographs and said, ‘This is very top secret, don’t show anybody. These are just for you to see’. Then I get a call one morning that there was some sort of accident on the highway,” she explained.

O’Brien then introduced a clip that showed the truck carrying stacks of the magazine had overturned and hundreds of copies of the publication had been strewn across the road.

“What was funny was how much they drilled us not to show anybody and there it was all over the highway!” said Michele.

Eh. So now that the GQ controversy has been beaten like a dead horse, why doesn’t Lea address some of her other controversies? Granted, these were just controversies in my mind, but how about the time she said that her teachers never taught her anything because they were too threatened by her? How about you take that one, Lea?

Sidenote: Sela Ward was also at this TV Guide event, and I was so disturbed by her face, I felt the need to put this up:

Open note to Sela: You were a gorgeous woman, one of the most classically beautiful women in Hollywood, and you used to be the gold standard of aging gracefully and gorgeously. Why the f-ck did you f-ck with your face?!?

I think the dress on Lea Michele is “young” (though the pattern could be a little less Palm Beach watercolor). She does have a “mature” bone structure, though, so that adds to the older appearance of the look. That kind of face can be an advantage — the bloom won’t go off the rose in a couple of years!

I don’t think Sela Ward did anything to her face. She has natural lines & is smiling in kind of a tense way is all! I think she’s raking it in with voiceover work these days (I’m not being sarcastic, she does a bunch of big commercials.)

  2. SoulLovah says:

Lea’s dress=a bit unfortunate. Also, it looks like her shoes are too large? See all that extra space at her heel?

Not much of a Glee fan so I’m afraid the only commentary I can give is on her sense of style. For which she receives an ‘E’ for Effort.

  3. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Its a cute dress but I think maybe the dark color and the frills around the collar age the dress which in turn ages her.

  4. Brittney says:

How are people still singing Terry Richardson’s praises? The man should be in jail.

  5. Hautie says:

It looks like Sela had a recent trip to Dr. Botox.

The injections in the forehead tend to give one the arched eye brows.

Marcia Cross used to have the exact same surprised eyebrow looked, till she stopped with the botox.

  6. Rachel says:

She wasn’t talking about her school teachers. She said that her acting and music teachers ignored her and that maybe they were threated because she had worked before. I imagine it would suck to be an acting coach and there’s this kid who has been working on broadway since she was 8.

  7. lucy2 says:

I think Sela’s always had that brow arch. She’s just starting on some new TV show, isn’t she?

It looks like some of the blue dripped of Lea’s dress onto her feet.

  8. lilred says:

Sela is now on CSI New York.

  9. red says:

Naw, Sela Ward’s eyebrows weren’t that high. She almost looks like Janice Dickinson in that photo.

  10. PrettyTarheel says:

This is off topic, but the site is shutting my browser down today. It has happened several times. Anyone else experiencing this?

  11. Merry says:

Would have gone with brighter colors for her, but the dress is cute, nice cut.
OffTopic: I really, really like Lainey’s view of Nicole Richie’s activities; she always gave me the idea of being a terrible manipulator for her own profit.

  12. DoMaJoReMc says:

I’m not sure what all the hype is about Lea Michele. She is not that pretty, but I don’t know if her diva-like behavior is clouding my judgment. I don’t like the dress, and her shoes look WAY too uncomfortable.

I do think that Sela Ward is absolutely GORGEOUS! I don’t think her straight hair does her pretty face any favors, tho.

  13. The_Porscha says:

Minus the sleeves, the dress would have been a more reserved win for her. With the sleeves, she looks like she should be knitting on somebody’s porch. Although I’d imagine that stabbing someone with the knitting needles might be more her speed.

  14. Scarlet Vixen says:

It’s not just Sela Ward’s ‘Joker from Batman’ eyebrows that makes her look weird! It’s how straight and tight and strained looking her upper lip looks, and the odd pinched look around her nose. Her face looks like she’s trying to smile naturally and it’s painful because the middle portions can’t move. It looks really uncomfortable… 🙁

  15. serena says:

Boring, old and really not sexy or chic.

  16. di butler says:

Eh, I am so over this Lea Michele trick and Glee has become a hacky one-trick pony. Paaaasssss.

  17. Jeri says:

I don’t think Lea will ever be able to please people.

Not sure what you mean about Sela, her forehead is very smooth. Her face looks ok but if it cheek inplants I have noticed with others that some poses look fine and others -eek! Sunken eyes and un-naturally large cheekbones.

  18. notsoanonymous says:

I enjoy Glee sometimes, not an avid fan. Cannot STAND the character she plays (Rachael) on that show and thus, have a very hard time liking her. Saw her on a late night show recently and for the first time ever I found her likeable.

I actually really like this dress on her. First time she hasn’t looked like a skeleton in months. I’d say success here.

Side note: I wanted a tat on my foot for YEARS but these types of photos are why I never went through with it. How tacky does a random blue splotch look with a knock out, classy outfit?

  19. Lisa Turtle says:

Terry Richardson is a rapist and a repeat offender of sexual assault. He’s just rich and famous so he’s never seen a prosecution or jail time.

Don’t care for Lea Michele. Her praise of Richardson solidifies my dislike.

  20. Stephy2585 says:

I don’t know if it’s much better or too old, but it’s definitely-efinitely ’bout time!
    Gawd.
If I saw one more bench all waxed up from her vadge I might have stabbed my eyes with my own index fingers.
    Gross.

  21. Darlene says:

    Sela Ward looks great.

    So does Lea Michele. 🙂

  22. Ruffian9 says:

That first pose; She still thinks she’s all that.

  23. kimberly says:

    she looks fine

I’ve seen far far worse, but i can’t wait until her character “graduates”.

  24. endoplasmic_ridiculum says:

Meh. They both look fine to me.. Mind, I’m going on the people at my firm: after 14 hours everyone looks terrible. Sela Ward looks like a goddess compared to everyone on my floor…

  25. Sinead says:

Terry Richardson is no way an icon. He’s a dirty old pervert who gets away with taking advantage of young girls because he’s “famous”. GQ was tame compared to the rest of his stuff. Her attitude is typical…tell a young girl a guy’s an icon and she’ll let him put her into almost pornographic positions. Very naive..

  26. Leah! says:

Either lighten the color or ditch the sleeves, and it would have worked. She looks like she put some weight on, and is definitely much more attractive (and healthy!) but I think another 5 pounds or so couldn’t hurt. At least she doesn’t look painfully skinny anymore.

  27. Ferguson. says:

    I.DONT.LIKE.IT

and it’s true, her shoes are too large.

  28. weslyn says:

@ Brittney..thank you! his work disturbs me on so many levels

  29. Chris says:

I think this is one of those dresses that anyone can wear, but is entirely up to how you style it. Put on a cute pair of earrings and shoes (instead of blah and safe) and do something fun with the hair and it could be totally age appropriate.

It just looks like someone got a little tweezer-happy with Sela, methinks.

  30. LBees says:

I was watching THE FUGITIVE last night and she was in it. Sela’s eyebrows haven’t changed much. Not nearly as much as Tommy Lee Jones’s face has… melted.
