News has come out that Jane Fonda, 72, was diagnosed with a non-invasive form of breast cancer after a routine scan at her doctor’s office. Fonda addressed this on her blog, writing simply that it’s true and that she’s fine now. She wrote “As the press has reported today, I had a scare with a non-invasive breast cancer but it is ALL OUT NOW!!! I am so lucky. We got it early and it was, as I said, non-invasive. I want to thanks my friends and fans who have written beautiful letters. It has meant a lot to me.” It sounds like she doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it and that she’s not going to address it much further. Here’s what her rep told People:

Jane Fonda has revealed that she recently had a breast cancer scare, but after a successful procedure is free of the disease.

The actress and fitness guru, 72, is “completely fine,” her rep tells PEOPLE.

A small tumor was discovered during a routine checkup a few weeks ago. The cancer was found to be non-invasive, and Fonda had a procedure earlier this week to remove the tumor.

“She’s 100 percent cancer-free,” says her rep. “She’s completely fine and it’s business as usual for her.

The fitness dynamo is currently promoting her new Primetime Fitness DVDs, which will hit stores on Nov. 30. She will be re-launching her Fonda Workout brand with a series of DVDs that will also feature fitness experts such as Tara Stiles, Jeanette Jenkins, Karena Dawn and Katrina Hodgson, on December 26.

This came out last week but I missed it for some reason. I love that Fonda has a DVD to promote but that she’s completely blowing off her cancer scare and is acting like it’s not a big deal. I’m glad she’s ok and that this was caught very early. The National Cancer institute recommends that women in their 40s and up have a routine mammogram every 1-2 years.

Meanwhile Rosie O’Donnell is undergoing her own cancer scare after doctors found two lumps in her breasts. She had an MRI and a biopsy and is waiting for the results. Rosie’s mom died from breast cancer at just 39 years old. Be well Rosie!

Note by Kaiser: Isn’t her son Troy Garity hot? I love him. He’s a good actor too.

    Good for Jane!

Troy Garity was *riveting* in Soldier’s Girl, a few years back. Phenomenal performance!

I fully respect her decision not to say more, but it is kind of weird that they would just say “oh well, we got it all, business as usual”, and I say this as someone who recently had a lumpectomy. I will respectfully assume it is due in part to her age, because from what I gather a follow up course of some form of treatment is par for the course.

I am young for BC, which is one of the reasons I’m told I’m in for radiation / chemo options, and there was nothing in my lymph nodes either, and my tumor had clear margins. Doctors don’t use the term “cancer free” at this stage of the game really.

Any way, I don’t mean to rain all over anyone’s parade. This is still great news for her.

Orion70- Prayers and well wishes to you.

  4. OtherChris says:

I hope she’s okay, and Rosie too. Rosie has young children who need their momma.

Orion70, good thoughts to you. And you did NOT rain on anyone’s parade.

I don’t have any feelings for this woman either way, but I laugh at people that get major facial work done but ignore their hands. (yes, they can actually make your hands look younger). It’s kind of like getting up with bedhead and only fixing the front. Check the back and it’s still all pushed up and messy.

    Traitor Jane Fonda
May her life be as miserable as the POWs she disrespected. Nothing but a
    B!t!h!

  7. Julie says:

Wow Vicky I can tell you have a beautiful heart. You go girl!

  8. vicky says:

Julie-look it up. you will see what awful things she did to our servicemen, who I do respect. My heart is in the right place!

  9. LindaR says:

I agree with Vicky. No apology on Fonda’s part will ever make up for the way she promoted the attacks on Vietnam Vets after they had come home, most of them with serious PTSD. I remember it well. That and the fact that she sided with the Viet Cong. WTF!!!!

  10. Scout says:

While I do not wish badness or illnes on anyone, I agree that there are some things people do – such as what Jane Fonda did – that can never be forgotten. Forgiven? Well, for the vietnam vets and for those of us who were old enough to understand what was going down back then, even if we can/have forgiven, there is simply no way to ever forget.

  11. gabs says:

Jane Fonda has a blog? Everyone has a frickin blog nowadays sheesh

  12. REALIST says:

OMG-breast cancer scares the crap out of me. My stepmother’s cancer traveled to her liver in less than two years after surgery and radiation (died at 56), and my dad’s first cousin (who was practically an aunt to me) had an “unidentified mass” which was essentially inoperable (another metastasis) in her abdomen about 3 years out from surgery and chemo (died at 66). Then I think of poor Lynn Redgrave.
May Jane be truly cancer free and live out her full life.

  13. LindaR says:

    @Scout – I agree completely.

  14. Testosterone is more prevalent in men than in women. It is thought that this could be the explanation why the guys who suffer from acne, they are more severe and lasts longer than women. When a hormonal imbalance, the skin’s sebaceous glands produce more sebum and this accelerates the regeneration of cells (many cells are born and many die). The consequence of this extra amount of dying cells, added as much sebum produced by sebaceous glands, complete blocking of skin pores. It is important to note also that the greatest amount of fat that has occurred means that the skin becomes more fat, which helps these dead cells falling, falling attached to the pores (sebum) from the skin. This also attracts bacteria. The consequence of this process are few follicles clogged with oil and dead skin cells and the appearance of some bacteria. In other words, we have the beginning of a acne process, whose origin has been a hormonal issue.
