Kanye West whines: “Taylor Swift never came to my defense at any interview!”

If there’s any sure-fire way for me to find my way back to Team Swifty, it’s for Kanye West to get on his high horse and bitch about her. My Team Swifty status has been in flux ever since the BS with John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal. I don’t care for the way she’s trying to front like she’s this perfect little fairy princess with an emotional age of 13 years old, all while boning Mayer’s douche dong and bitching about him in lyrics, only to snatch up/beard for Jake G. There’s a dichotomy there, and it’s unflattering. But I will go back to my Team Swifty status, because Kanye West is absolutely ridiculous. Last night, Kanye gave a surprise performance at The Bowery Ballroom (that was very well received), and in between songs, Kanye did what Kanye does best: martyr himself. In the world according to Kanye, Taylor Swift is the bad guy because not ONCE did she defend him, post-VMAs.

Kanye West is still angry at Taylor Swift. At a surprise performance of his acclaimed new album at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom around 1 a.m. Wednesday, West, 33, launched another attack against the country star, 20, whom he famously ambushed at the 2009 Video Music Awards. During his rant, West seemed to suggest that the Speak Now singer used the VMA brouhaha to bolster her fame.

“Taylor never came to my defense at any interview,” West ranted. “And rode the waves and rode it and rode it,” he sniped of Swift.

Swift wasn’t West’s only target. The “Power” rapper also dug into Matt Lauer, with whom he recently tussled on the Today Show.

West charged that Lauer “exploited” him as they chatted about former President George W. Bush, who lamented that West called him a “racist” for his handling of Katrina.

Bush had said that West’s comment was a “lowest moment” in his Presidency; West also objected to the Today Show playing a video clip of the VMA moment during their Today Show interview.

“Because [of] the popularity of me, they exploited that…That’s not what he f*cking said!” West railed. “That’s not what he said! He said it was one of his lowest moments. But it shows you—the way they try to villainize, the way they tried to do that.”

[From Us Weekly]

What was Swifty supposed to say, exactly? “You know that douche who stole my thunder and made me cry? He’s not that bad.” What’s worse is that Kanye is the one who keeps bringing this crap up! It’s not even about Swifty anymore, it’s about Kanye and his ego, and how he’s the next Jesus or whatever. Ugh. Go to NY Mag’s Vulture column to read more about Kanye’s rant – here’s an okay video of it too:

Dear g*d that man is such a jacka$$.

  2. LT says:

Good grief Kanye, LET IT GO.

  3. Po says:

He’s making himself seem like the pathetic one. I think the idea is to get people to talk about him because I don’t hear a lot of talk about this new album of his but I think he just doesn’t get that he is actually a talented man and he doesn’t need all of this drama. He is actually a 30 something year old man in a one-sided beef with a 20 year old. Just embarrassing.

  4. Grace says:

I couldn’t care about Taylor either way, but I despise Kanye. May his Thanksgiving dinner be dry, burnt and over salted.

  5. Feebee says:

JESUS!!! This man! Can we stick him and Kate Gosselin on a desert island together for a month? Then he’ll actually have something to bitch and moan about.

  6. Overit says:

Dear God would somebody please hose this preening, self-obsessed ass down because he’s under the mistaken impression that he’s on fire.

  7. Mia135 says:

He really does think he’s Jesus, doesn’t he?

    He is so funny.

  8. Me1st says:

I’m with Feebee…get rid of him.

  9. Sarah says:

@Feebee, I agree! Maybe they’ll talk each other to death 🙂 we could only hope.

Why would she come to his defense? I don’t get it.

  11. Jayna says:

Rappers are supposed to be macho. He’s talented and his new album is really great, but the guy is a little whiny bi…ch. 50 Cent and Lil’ Wayne must get a kick out of
    whimpy Kanye.

  12. yulman says:

It’s because your not worth the energy d***head!

  13. Bella Mosley says:

I fail to understand why anyone should have his back when his just stabbed them in theirs!!!
His popularity? The only time I hear about him is when he has tried to steal someone else’s thunder or when he’s crying they aren’t taking his side after doing it.
The author of this piece says he whines: IT IS what he does best!
He should get down on his knees and thank Beyonce and Jay Z for carrying him.
I find him disgusting and irrelevant.

  14. mojoman says:

I am starting to think he is bi-polar. Really, first he apologizes then 5 minutes later acts like a jack a$$. wash, rinse and repeat in every interview. Go fly a kite kanye!

  15. Kaya says:

Such a douchebag. Kanye, NO-ONE GIVES A CRAP. He’s like one of those people at a party who everyone avoids in case they get caught up with his enormous ego.

  16. Stronzilla says:

I would like to see him bend over and grab his ankles so Swifty can ram that friggin’ MTV award straight up his ass. Knowing him though he’d probably enjoy it.

  17. teehee says:

I feel better about myself every time even one word comes out of his mouth.

  18. MarenGermany says:

he is a whiny little bitch with an emotional age of a nine year old girl.

  19. Marjalane says:

It would make my life if these two fell madly in love and we never heard from either of them again. Kanye’s a tool but I’m not buying Taylor’s act either.

  20. guesty says:

as if kanye. not team swifty by any stretch of the imagination but he boggles the mind.

  21. heathen says:

Gah! What a narcissist! He acts completely inappropriately & somehow it is HER fault?
    Team Swifty.

  22. Dexter01 says:

Kanye, GROW UP ! The public is so sick of hearing a whiny cry baby. My 4 yr old is more mature than you.

  23. bagladey says:

I’m with Feebee too. Get rid of Kanye AND Kate Gosselin.

  24. Dana M says:

This Man has some serious issues. He needs good help for his mental health problems.

  25. Kiki says:

He’s ridiculous but that is part of his deal. He’s just being Kanye.
Still don’t like Swift. Tired of seeing her face.

  26. icantbelievethis says:

Okay, I read the whole transcript of Kanye’s rant and reading the whole thing gives a different meaning to what he’s saying:

‘but I wrote it, I rode it, just as Taylor never came to my defense in any interview, and rode the waves and rode it and rode it, that’s the way I rode the waves of the Bush comment.’

He wasn’t saying she should’ve defended him, but he’s comparing his popularity rise after his “Bush doesn’t like black people” to Swift’s popularity rise after the VMA’s (and she did gain popularity and became more well known).

‘When you look in your heart, look at what the media did, look at how they exploited him, they said that he said it was his lowest moment and as a mass, as America, we took that as a fact, and if you look at the interview he said that was one of his lowest moments and he said it about ten different things!’

It doesn’t sound like he’s blaming Swift. He’s pointing out examples of how the media exploits things.

Just look at the headlines everywhere about his rant “Kanye slams Taylor Swift and Defends George Bush”. But I didn’t interpret the rant as slamming Swift, just using an example.

  27. Boombeeba says:

Stfu Kanye! As much as I think Taylor Swift can’t sing, u can’t rap, so ur on the same page, 2 fame hungry defilers, of the so called music they love. Public Enemy is hip hop. Loretta Lynn is COUNTRY. & u guys are neither. Kanye, ur a grown @ss man, act as such, Taylor never did have to come rescue u, as u dug & continue to bury urself in ur own grave! Y don’t u ask ur illuminutty buddys to help u out pissant!!!

  28. OXA says:

If Kanye were a dog, he would have been declared rabid and euthanized by now.

  29. Just a Poster says:

    Dear Kanye..

We are so very glad you enjoyed your time in MAMBY PAMBY LAND..

However it is time for you to scoot on out of here and take residence in GROWN ASS MAN LAND.

    Thank you,
    Management of MAMBY PAMPY LAND

  30. Jeri says:

Amen Kaiser. He’s regained his douche status, time to shut up and go away Kanye.

  31. Liana says:

I do not like this man/child.

  32. Mika says:

I think I like Taylor Swift. Yes, I don’t really listen to her music because I’m too old, but even I do, I always think about how honest it is, and continues to be. So it’s lame. 14 year olds ARE lame, and they need outlets like Taylor Swift. I also like that she continues to write the same kind of music she always has even though she’s famous. Katy Perry used to write honest, funny songs, but as soon as she got big and started dating famous people, she sold out and started singing California Girls Teenage Dream bullshit. Taylor deserves some credit for living the life of a celebrity without changing her art and whitewashing the experience.

  33. Str8Shooter says:

What a fucking NARCISSISTIC asshole. He expects someone that he publicly humiliates to defend him? Wow. New low, even for him.

To think I was contemplating buying his latest album…not a chance after reading this.

THe guy IS talented, but what a total douchebag.

  34. Gabby says:

OK Kanye! Enough dude. You can’t complain. People make mistakes, regret, SINCERELY apologize, and move on, trying to be humble and not make that mistake again.

You can’t get off the hook, playing the martir, or the victim, and act like the world is trying to make you the villian, when you made that yourself. Everytime you’ll talk about and claim some sort of justice, you’ll get beat to the head with it. You had no right to do what you did.

VMA’s is an award given by fans. THEY are the ones voting. THEY get to chose the winner. If you don’t agree with that, next time, go to mtv.com and vote for YOUR favorite artist.

Even if you or anyone else thinks Beyonce is the better artist, what you did “defending” her, because you are so “passionate” and “honest” is ridiculous. You can be passionate and express all of your love and support through others means. Getting up to the stage, taking someones microphone, and humiliating them in NATIONAL TV is just rude, no matter who that person is.

Stop acting like you are the “voice of this generation” because you don’t represent anyone. You don’t get to use others as excuses to validate your own opinions and mistakes. Take responsability for your actions, and stop thinking you are this almighty superstar that your ego created in your mind.

  35. gg says:

Oh don’t you know the entire world’s events are all about him.

I saw Swifty on two morning shows the next day, and she never said anything bad about him – in fact, she said he called her and asked her forgiveness and she felt bad for what he was going through.

KW is the reason Swifty’s career mushroomed. If he kept his giant piehole shut, he would have less to bitch about. Bringin it ALL upon himself, the fool.

  36. 4Real says:

He’s such a class act isn’t he? She never trashed you or interrupted you while grabbing an award either IDIOT!

  37. Nicky says:

    @icantbelievethis, I agree 100% with your comment.
Kanye is an egomaniac however, he is right to say that Taylor rode this out, and she is continuing to do so by acting like it was the biggest tragedy in her life. So much so, that she wrote a song about it and stuck it on her album. No one criticises her for it though because she has never spoken directly about it like Kanye has. Taylor’s way of dealing with it is to not comment publicly, write a song about it and play the victim because that’s her shtick. It makes people sympathize with her and allows her to live up to their expectations whilst riding this whole thing out. Kanye will always be seen as the bad guy because he speaks up. They’re both as bad as each other but I’ll defend Kanye because he’s not trying to live up to anyone’s expectations, he does what he wants and as much as he annoys me, I prefer that to Taylor’s fake princess act any day of the week.
She could have laughed it off and moved on like a grown-up, instead she came back to the VMA’s a year later, still looking for sympathy by using a clip from the incident to open her embarrassing performance. No one thinks she should defend him (I don’t think that’s what he’s even saying) but if she was more grown up about the whole thing and brushed it off as a stupid prank, neither one of them would be using the incident in their own way over a year later.

  38. Ron says:

    Dear Jesus,
Please accept my prayer of Thanksgiving. The only thing that I ask, for the sake of my country, is that you keep Kanye West’s mouth shut for 24 f**king hours.
    Thank you Jesus My Saviour.
    Thank you.

  39. Buckley says:

Hey Kanye….do you like fish sticks?

  40. southerncheerleader says:

    Leave Kanee Wanee alone.

It’s clear that the Cognac (which he’s always drinking) has taken every remaining brain cell.

    Po’ li’ baby.

Al Roker just said KW was a genius.
Al, too much marathoning. Get some rest bro.

I ref everyone to the Quincy Jones interview on KW. Quinc ain’t got NO LOVE for Kanee Wanee. I’m down w/Quinc.

  41. Matt says:

Jesus Kanye, it happened over a year ago!

And why would Taylor Swift dredge up what was probably a humiliating moment for her? She is obviously mature enough to LET IT GO.

  42. Willow says:

    @ Ican’tbelievethis & Nicky

Totally with you two. He’s not blaming her, he’s talking about how she rode the well-oiled machine that is hollywood hype to her advantage. Honestly, her PR agents spun a shitty situation the best way they could have for her.

But Kanye is feeding the beast that’s eating him alive…such is a martyr. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him ultimately self-sacrifice (if his ego allows it) with a note beside him poetically blaming everyone but himself.

He’s right about one thing…it’s all a game. A very well studied and manipulated game to catch the masses attention.

  43. happygirl says:

@ Grace & @ Stronzilla – Thank you for making me LOL! Ahhh…I needed that! =)

  44. black orchid says:

White America, should I have expected anything different. If kanye is what you say he is, then why read this post, and why post hateful messages? Could it be when it comes to a black guy who doesn’t meet your specifications you take glory in their downfall in an sadistic fashion as possible. How about this site post his entire comments, for which he was essentially speaking more about how he said something about bush and rode it to bigger fame, just as Taylor swift had done after his fiasco. I fault kanye for being unapologetically black in America. Give up the media fight, because their job is to polorize people places and things as much as possible. They never once answer your questions that you, kanye, angrily raise, because if an honest debate does occur, they won’t like the results. Until the day whites are at most a plurality or at even a minority all sides will be territorial and go to the comfort zone of being apart of the crowd that a)looks like me or b)doesn’t threaten those who look like me; how that pertains to music is that most, again black or white, never truly try to understand the other side, and being that whites are the majority they will never recognize someone unapologetically black (see rap) even if its kanye west, who now has the album of the year.

  45. irishserra says:

Didn’t come to his defense once? Uhm… didn’t she in fact write and perform a song for/to him stating that it was just a mistake, we all make mistakes, etc.?? How much more public defending does this guy want?

Okay, okay… so he said “at any interview.” But what is it he is expecting?

  46. Gabriela says:

Can’t pick a team on this one. They’re both phony egotards.

  47. Rachel says:

    he just needs some Haldol

  48. chris says:

I read a report that called Kanye simply going on stage and disturbing Taylor a “victim”. I think there’s some racism involved here. Interrupting an award does not make anyone a victim. People have just been looking for a reason to bag on Kanye. Whatev.

  49. Crittle says:

Why is Taylor expected to hold his hand after he embarassed her? He’s upset she used the situation he created to her advantage? Geeze, I hope he doesn’t get into any rap fueds anytime soon, the little man wouldn’t be able to take it.

  50. TXCinderella says:

What a tool! You stole her time in the spotlight and that can never be given back to her. Just shut up bitch!

  51. Dawn says:

The sad thing, at one time Kanye was making great songs. His first and second albums are classic There’s mix-tape song called (Big Brother) and it’s about he wanted to be like Jay-Z and couldn’t be no matter how hard he tried to

I really think when his mother died, he went down hill. I’ll bet that Kanye is a serious bi-polar.

  52. Lisa says:

I Wouldve asked for my money back for his show. He is so pitiful it’s sad..i’ll put him in my prayers tonight.

  53. GracieXDoes says:

    @icantbelievethis and Nickey

She obviously has plenty of support without this Kanye bs. Or she wouldn’t be winning the awards she was before his mouth. She doesn’t suit my taste, but she obviously didn’t need my vote and I wouldn’t waste my money on her before much less after this debacle. No matter how you try to spin it, he obviously entertained the idea of her defending him in interviews or it wouldn’t have come out of his mouth. I do not believe she or anyone else needs his support or negativity to increase their fame. He is NOT that much of a mover & shaker. Once again, he is trying to make everything about him and he’s nothing but a skank…I have no idea why anyone even buys into his childish crap. His musicality? Each to his own, I say. I also say his music us crap. Too much money for a no talent ass only creates credibility in his own eyes. Why do people keep buying into this schmuck?

  54. jaye E says:

Lord…he really makes it hard to have even an OUNCE of empathy for him. I try to take into account the fact that he lost his anchor (his mom) and is just really lost…but then he opens his mouth.

  55. Kat says:

    Dear Kanye,
Chicago is ashamed of you. FOAD.

    Kisses,
    Kat.

  56. Nicky says:

    @GracieXDoes,
Where are we spinning it? We’re just looking at the situation from both sides. I watched the video in full and his rant was more about media exploitation than anything else. Kanye’s an asshat there’s no denying that but Taylor and her PR people have used the situation to their advantage just as much as Kanye. They’re BOTH using the incident for their own purpose; she’s just approaching it very differently.
Prior to the VMA’s she was very successful and winning awards however, outside of the demographics which supported her (tweenies, soccer moms and country music fans) no one paid much attention. She was largely ignored in the RnB/hip hop circle and she wasn’t as popular in the contemporary pop field. After the incident she was everywhere. Sorry, but as much as it probably pains you and everyone else to accept this, Kanye DID play a part in boosting her profile, for good or bad.
Did she need that attention, probably not but it certainly didn’t do her any harm, if anything it just made her more popular. I’m not defending what Kanye did but there are two sides to this story, unfortunately most people here only to want to see it from her perspective.
The way some people are commenting, you would have thought he had jumped on staged pinned her down and assaulted her! All he did was steal her thunder momentarily whilst accepting a moonman at a crappy wards show. Everyone’s really blowing this whole thing out of proportion but at the end of the day, maybe that’s what they both want because they’ll both benefit from it in the long run. More people will feel sorry for her and Kanye gets more people to debate about it. As Willow pointed out, it all part of the well-oiled PR machine.

I’m not a fan of Kanye or his music but I’m just LOLing at those who are posting moronic comments about how his music sucks and how talentless his is. If that’s so, then why is the music press declaring it his best work to date and giving full marks to his album right across the board? The guy might not fit into your mould of what a pop star should look like or how they should behave but he pushes boundaries musically and he isn’t afraid to speak up, regardless of the backlash.

  57. Sandy says:

    @NIcky
There was no novel writing contest when I signed in. Did I miss it? You need to lighten up as much as the idiot this article is about. Wanna point out that alot of people buy albums by Jesse Simpson and Britney Spears too. Remember the Spice Girls? Popularity isn’t always a sign of taste.

  58. Jaxx says:

West isn’t the reason for her popularity. The album she was at the VMA’s getting the award for is the reason for her popularity. He may have kept her name in the headlines a little longer because of his selfish stunt but she was already famous for her own talents and songs.

He is an idiot who needs to shut up.

  59. Jayna says:

@Dawn, Kanye is still making great songs. His new album is getting really amazing reviews across the board and is going to sell very well if he would just shut up and let his talent do the talking.

  60. wonderful says:

Wow black orchid, wow. Saying people are racist because they are white, and must not like someone because they are black, is ridiculously racist on your part. Practice what you are attempting to preach.

  61. GirlyGirl says:

Are all celebs becoming jabbering jackasses?

Is Kanye actually going to shut up and make music anytime soon?

Hey Kanye, no-one cares what you think about anything at all. STFU!

And Hey Black Orchid, if a white guy did this crap, we’d bitch about him too.

  62. gg says:

cheeze. And out come the racist-accusing racists. Black orchid, you are full of manure. Go sit on an ice cream cone and cool off. Do not ever, ever, start a post with “white america”. Shame on you!

  63. HakuraChii says:

It wasn’t a smart move for Kanye to bring the Taylor Swift thing back up again. People reacted so strongly with outrage after that incident, that no matter what point he was attempting to make by mentioning it now, it was surely going to result in people jumping on him about the issue all over again.

@Black Orchid – Your comment was very racist in itself, bashing *all* those who happen to be white in America, making assumptions about someone based entirely on what color they happen to be. It’s ridiculous to say disagreeing with Kanye West means someone is racist. I know plenty of black people who think he’s a pretentious, obnoxious moron. And I would be very insulted by someone making it sound like open rudeness is simply being ‘unapologetically black’.

  64. Lia says:

?? Where is it written that she has to come to his defense just because he wants her to? He’s an ass. And that last picture of him is so awful, it looks like someone on SNL doing a silly skit about him. He reallly thinks he’s all that, doesn’t he? *gag*

  65. ad says:

OMG it has been a year, move on let it GO. DONT YOU PEOPLE HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO OTHER THAN BITCHING ON ONE ANOTHER, GOD FORGIVE YOUR SOULS, COZ IF IT WAS UP TO ME BOTH OF YOU WOULDN’T BE HERE , YOU BE IN ASKABAN.

  66. Stronzilla says:

Askaban? Whoa, as in Harry Potter and the prisoner of? Cool.

  67. misschrissy83 says:

I totally agree with Nicky and icantbelieveit people who didn’t listen to the whole rant have a skewed view of what was really said he was talking about media exploitation and not about Taylor Swift defending him.
and #62 Black Orchid had a point and starting a statement with “white America” is not shamefull or wrong if thats whose attention you are trying to get. Im white and I agree with alot of the things said in the comment we did immediately come to TS’s defense like Kanye SHOT her or something. I mean “She’ll never get her time back to accept that award”–Thats Bullshit! I mean it was a fucking MTV award not the Nobel Peace Prize. I mean it was shocking and wrong to do but damn can we put that whole thing into prospective.

But really I guess Kanye was saying in his own self righteous way that he had a bad year and alot of people counted him out of the game. However he still managed to put out a fairly sucessful album he just said it in a self righteous assholish way.

  68. Trippin says:

He’s got it twisted. Why should she ever have to defend him. He embarassed himself that night. That was a druggie move. For her age she handled it better than a lot of older celebs would have.

  69. gg says:

Sorry miss chrissie, but it’s wrong to lump all white people or all black people together and then chastise them. WRONG. So starting an email addressing all white people is terribly uninformed. Nobody is going to listen to any words after an insensitive introduction like that. Think.

  70. HakuraChii says:

@GG (#69)- I agree with your response to Miss Chrissy. No matter what the issue, a statement that lumps people together based on what *color* they happen to be is just asinine. It’s wrong, no matter what race you’re trying to focus on when you do so.

It’s extremely offensive to start with ‘Black America’, then say something negative. No one would think for a second about defending that kind of statement. So why is lumping all ‘white’ people into one group and making insulting assumptions supposed to be ‘okay’?

But beyond that, yes, some people were so outraged by the rudeness of what Kanye did that they overreacted. But that does not apply to everyone. I never thought for a moment he should have been *arrested* for what he did (let alone anything else.). But it was *wrong*, and incredibly disrespectful & arrogant of him to do so. So yes, compounding the attitude he shows so frequently toward the public *does* make people angry. Which they have every right to express. & truly, it appears to be exactly what Kanye is trying to accomplish by most of what he says.

  71. anoneemouse says:

Gee Kanye…maybe there is no defense to your attacks on her. This man has some serious anger issues he needs help with.

  72. Cleo says:

He makes me want to babysit everytime I see him. He reminds me of the cookie crunch between the layers of a Carvel ice cream cake. His 2010 performance of Runaway is THE best – better than the music video and the SNL performance.
