Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves have a baby boy (update: Matt’s statement)

Matthew McConaughey’s son and Nicole Kidman’s daughter, Sunday, share the same Monday birthday of 7/7/08. Matthew and his girlfriend, Brazilian model Camila Alves, welcomed a baby boy at 6:22 p.m. in LA yesterday, reports People Magazine. McConaughey’s rep confirmed the birth, and said the newborn weighed 7 lbs., 4 oz. There is no word yet as to the baby’s name.

In recent interviews McConaughey spoke candidly about looking forward to being a father and having an active role in his child’s life. He called fatherhood his next journey, saying “to be the architect of a little creature’s life is my next big adventure and I can’t wait for it to begin.” When asked what he’s looking forward to he said “every single day” and that he’ll definitely be changing diapers. Matthew seems like he’ll be an attentive and enthusiastic dad.

Congratulations to Camila and Matthew and best wishes for a wonderful life with their new addition.

Update: OK! Magazine had this exclusive statement from Matthew McConaughey. Do you think that means they’ve already negotiated a deal for the photos?

“A healthy baby boy was born,” Matthew tells OK! in an exclusive statement. “Camila and I were side by side the entire time. We are both tired and elated, and are so happy to have created the greatest miracle in the world — Having a child and making a family. Now comes the greatest adventure — raising one, together.”

Update 2: The baby’s name is Levi Alves McConaughey. Here’s a story with more details on why Matt chose the name.

  3. Bodhi says:

Hooray! Congrats to Matthew & Camila! They will be amazing parents & that little boy is gonna be a super model!

  4. daisy424 says:

    Congrats to the proud parents.

Did they purchase a house or are they still living in his mobile home?

  5. Kaiser/ Hippacrat says:

And the break-up is in 5…4…3…2…

  6. WTF says:

    gg,

    your comment makes no sense.

  7. kate says:

    how about “bongo mc conaughey”?

  8. KateNonymous says:

I’m not a fan of McConaughey, but I totally see him as an involved dad.

  9. Lola says:

He will make a good father. Dating him though seems as much fun as watching paint dry. I am I the only one who finds him so boring? His babymama seems just as lifeless. That baby is not going to be a fun person. 😐

  10. WTF says:

Why, when two good looking people produce a baby, do people automatically think “supermodel”. Has are society become that obsessed with looks?, i guess so.

  11. Syko says:

I’ve known a lot of great looking people who have really homely children together. You just never know.

But I’m glad the little boy is here safely, and I hope they’ll be happy together for a long time.

  12. Anne says:

Lola, McConaughey may be a lot of things, promiscuous, philanderer, stinky, ripped, smarmy, stoned, but boring doesn’t spring to mind.

  13. Anne says:

As for the comments that the baby could be ugly even with gorgeous parents is just petty. Even Rumor Willis is attractive, she just isn’t as photogenic as her parents. She *is* annoying because she feels entitled, like Hilton.

  14. Bodhi says:

Well I’m not “obssesed with looks.” I made the super model comment as a compliment to the parents. Geez, lighten up

  15. Kaiser/ Hippacrat says:

Rumor *is not* attractive. Bruce Willis’s features don’t look good on a girl. Saying she’s simply not photogenic is like saying Britney Spears just needed a good night’s sleep.

  16. WTF says:

I never said the baby would be ugly. If i wanted to make such a statement i would have typed that instead, stop “reading between the lines”. The reason why i typed that particular opinion is that when ever good looking famous couples have a child, someone always makes a “supermodel” type comment. If i wanted to attact someone personally i would.

  17. Zoe says:

    Kaiser/ Hippacrat: love it.

  18. Patrícia says:

Ele com certeza irá ser um LINDO BEBê.

torço muito pela Camila, ela é maravilhosa! 8)

  19. Bodhi says:

Oh I know I wasn’t being attacked. I know what thats like 😉 I was just trying to explain why I made MY original comment…

  20. Old Hollywood says:

    Good Luck to them

  21. Larissa says:

    Levi Alves McConaughey

I kinda…dunno what to think about it, but then again, it´s not my child!lol

  22. Kristin says:

Wow his statement actually sounded normal!

  23. gg says:

I find him terribly gross, and boring as well. I’m sure their baby will be fine however. How’s that? 😀

  24. Elizabeth says:

Kaiser/ Hippacrat @ 6:36 pm — Totally agree about Rumor Willis. Even though she is well-connected, it’s so weird to read glowing descriptions of her attractiveness. WIKI-ALITY?

$3M for first pictures of this Alves-McConaughey baby? How presumptuous, opportunistic, and just plain greedy of his parents.
