Yesterday, TMZ “broke” the story that Miley Cyrus is pretty much one of us. A friend of Miley’s (some friend) sold/gave TMZ a video of Miley smoking a bong on or around her 18th birthday, even though TMZ’s sources claim that Miley was smoking “salvia” – which is legal. I kind of thought she was smoking weed, but it’s debatable. By the way, if it was salvia, Radar’s experts claim that stuff has the same effect as LSD. I don’t know about you, but I would rather take a hit off of the gravity bong then trip my (metaphoric) balls off again. Anyway, the video was all over the place on Friday, even the news networks. So I guess The Mullet finally got a chance to see it, and boy was he “sad” about it. From Billy Ray’s Twitter:

I think if I was Miley’s father (shudder), I would be more upset about her constant cooter-flashing (on stage). Here’s what I think is really giving The Mullet a major case of The Sads: “There is much beyond my control right now.” Yes, The Mullet can no longer “control” his little girl. He no longer tells her who to date and who to hang out with and when to work and when to flash her cooter on stage. The Mullet has learned a valuable lesson today!
I tend to think that every parent would be sad or upset somehow to find out their child was trying some sort of a drug, even if everyone tends to think it is a rite of passage and that everyone does it.
Its just like a parent would be upset or sad to find out their ‘child’ had sex for the first time, got fired, crashed a car for the first time– these are expected to happen in everyones life, but yet its still sends a ruffle through the parent to find out about it. It means that their ‘child’ is their child no more. Or said another way, that they cant control their child because it is now becoming an adult. They cant be shielded fro the dark spots in life forever and be innocent forever– life awaits.
So I get what Rayray is saying, if I understand him to be a somehwat civil and typical parent and not a power-greedy ego on two legs. 😉
edit: yes, ITA the overly sexualized at a young age thing bothered me a hell of a lot more.

I agree though, Billy Ray should be more upset if she was/is flashing people or wearing trampy clothes, young adults are going to experiment with pot/salvia, its just a matter of knowing when to stop and having a bit of self-control. I think you are misreading BR’s comment about “much out of his control.” I think it is in regards to his divorce from Tish and her control over all of the kids, not just Miley. Lots of people talk about how BR controls Miley, but that is just not accurate. She has an excellent management company, and her mother is her personal mgr, not her father. He is not listed as an interest in her career in any way. He has made, and continues to make, millions. Not sure if he has any need for her money. Plus, if your mom was maybe banging Bret Michaels, wouldn’t you need to rebel?
Salvia is legal so by the standard of the law she did no ‘wrong’ even though I strogly disagree and for teh fact that Salvia is more harmful than pot.
You know, I dont think its a problem to hit the bong once in a while. Plus, I am also convinced it was weed, she was smoking, but since its illegal, they just said it was some legal stuff.

I took his comments a different way. I think he’s trying to make the point that he doesn’t have any control because he’s not in the picture right now. I think its a diss of Miley’s mom. Either way it really doesn’t matter. This isn’t a thing where this girl has just gone bad all of a sudden. This has been in the works for a while now.

For the average teenager, smoking pot is a rite of passage, but for years now Miley has been hell bent on proving to everyone that she’s quite the hot grown up, AND she has shitloads more money to destroy herself with than the average teen. It might not end up being heroin, but this dipstick will end up moving onto other drugs. She’s just that stupid.

As an 18 year old girl I was getting drunk, dating much older guys, occasionally hit a bong though I didn’t like weed and even tried cocaine for the first time. For me, it was about finding my own footing.
So far since Miley’s hit 18 she’s had topless photos and a bong video “leaked”. I don’t think this is about being over sexualized, I think it’s about her being sexual as almost any 18 year old girl is going to be. But I think she leaked it herself, and she’s doing it to prove a point. I actually think she’s going to be fine in the long run.
i can see his point of view. no pareant wants their kid involved in questionable behavior, even though most of us dont think weed is a big deal. as far as salvia is concerned, ive never gotten high off of it all the times ive tried it, i put it in the same category as smoking banana peels. as for mileys provocative outfits, its not that far from the norm. beyonces mom is/was her costume designer and her outfits leave nothing to the imagination. im talking about way back in the day. i dont recall anyone jumping down beyonces moms throat about the skank-a-licious outfits she designed and crafted for her young daughter. sex sells and these parents a selling their kids to us.

you know, i know it’s the ultimate symbol of the white trash people, but i don’t mind on mullet every once in a while. i dated a guy way back who had one. it gave me something to grab on to during relations. yes, eventually we broke up, but still. fond memories of that mullet.

I feel bad for this family. I’ve never liked Miley, but everyone can relate to family issues.
It sounds as though she’s shut Billy Ray out of her life for the most part, since the divorce started. She and her mother are always attached at the hip now… with Tish wearing clothes that I would bet *money* are from Miley’s closet. It just seems like she wants to be Miley’s best friend, her peer, instead of a parent.
I’m wondering if she may be going through a mid-life crisis of some sort. Surely the divorce isn’t helping anything, and she seems desperate to be young and fun. Like living through Miley vicariously just didn’t cut it anymore.
I’d never say that someone’s behavior is *entirely* their parent’s fault. But in this case, it’s obvious that BR and Tish probably never put their foot down with Miley during her early teen years. She was probably spoiled, and never learned real consequences. Once she was bringing home the paycheck that supported her family (a huge pressure, as someone else commented), they may not have felt they had a right to criticize, or were afraid she’d separate herself from them.
Miley irritates the pure fucking hell out of me, always has. But even *I* feel for her in this. It just looks like it could go downhill so quickly, and we’ve all seen this before. It’s played out, why can’t someone get their shit together for a change?

I tend to not be too worried for her. She’s 18, she’s not gross like Raccoon McPantsless, she’s very, very talented and knows it – in a confident way – which didn’t seem to be the case with Britney or Lohan.
I’ve watched her show with my kids, have to admit, took some time, but i actually, uh, kind of think she’s funny. No, i take that back, she is seriously funny.

If she was smoking salvia, there will probably be some benefits in it for her. Like the clarity, insight and self-reflection a lot of people experience after they smoke it. Maybe she’ll realize what a tool she is, and stop everything she’s doing.
Salvia is wicked stuff, from what I’ve heard – in a bad way. No one I know has enjoyed taking it. I’ve never tried it. I’d much rather trip on tried, tested and true hallucinogens – LSD, shrooms.
Pot is much safer than salvia. If Miley’s smoking pot (and it sure looks like she is), good for her. She needs to chill out a bit.

As to the having ‘confidence in herself and her talent’ aspect…
Like most teenagers who are in the public eye, what can come off looking like ‘confidence’ and self assurance can often be a front for serious insecurity. And while it’s normal for teenagers to experiment, insecurity can make that so much worse. It’s unfortunately obvious that she shouldn’t be trusting the people she’s hanging around with right now. (I’m not referring to the pot so much as the person filming her with the full intention of selling her out.)
She has to put up with so much more pressure than the average person… not only worrying about being judged by kids at school or work… but the whole *world*. We’ve seen what that’s done to Lindsay and Britney.
I just hope she grows up fast enough not to end up in any *real* trouble.

Salvia has the same effects as LSD. It also lasts ten seconds. I did it on a dare – I felt like I was dying for about eight seconds, took a deep breath and drank some water and was good to go. It’s not what I would call a “fun” drug.
The real name of it is “salvia divinorum” which is a particular kind of salvia,it is different from the salvia officinalis, which is the common one, used for cooking.
Here in some European countries the divinorum is forbidden because it is well known for its effects.
Now: when I was a teen I made a lot of things ( smoking pot,getting drunk) which are stupid, and sometimes dangerous, but also -I think- normal, for this reason I don’t blame her.
Her father is “sad”, I would understand him, but I think he is a bit late:
he had to be sad and seriously worried when his little girl made a pole dance at 16; or when he says he can’t control her, he never controlled her because she paid all the family bills. That is sad not an 18 girl who tries a bong during her own party. At home.
