Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish secretly engaged

Divorced dad of two Ryan Philippe, 33, is said to be engaged to his girlfriend of nearly two years, Abbie Cornish, 25. The two met while working on the film Stop Loss together, and their relationship was thought to have hastened the end of Ryan’s marriage to superstar Reese Witherspoon. Ryan and Abbie have been photographed out together, and with his kids, but they have only attended events together occasionally and are trying to keep their relationship relatively quiet. The National Enquirer claims in this week’s edition that Ryan proposed to Abbie and gave her a ring but that she’s not happy that he hasn’t made an announcement yet. The two are reportedly living together in his $7 million Hollywood Hills mansion.

Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish are planning to get married, the Enquirer has learned. But there’s already trouble in paradise – she’s furious that he’s delaying the public announcement of their engagement…

Still bothered by the sharp criticism he received when his home-wrecking affair with Abbie was discovered, Ryan is now afraid that the public will judge him harshly for getting married so soon after his divorce, which was finalized on June 12.

“Abbie is fed up with Ryan constantly trying to cover up their relationship,” revealed a pal.

“Two months ago he finally agreed to make a public appearance with her, but she had to fight just to do that.”

Abbie, 25, has moved into the $7 million, 8,300 square foot Hollywood Hills house that 33 year-old Ryan bought in June, sources say. And she spends time with Ryan and Reese’s kids – Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4.

“Abbie’s been very understanding and has played along with Ryan’s secrecy for nearly two years, but now she’s lost her patience and it’s causing a lot of tension and arguing,” said the pal.

Ryan is pleading with Abbie to give him more time.

You can see this being true and Ryan wanting to keep it quiet. He really seems like the type of guy who gets into a long term relationship relatively quickly and is most comfortable with a girlfriend, considering how young he was when he married Reese. Good for him for being low-key about the relationship, but that’s got to annoy Abbie. It must be pretty sweet living in that house, though. In Touch had photos of the interior in their July 14 issue and it’s gorgeous. It has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a two-story gym, and a 60 foot pool on the patio with a spa, sauna, steam room and gazebo. I would gladly stay in that house in exchange for keeping a relationship with Ryan quiet. He must have done pretty well in the divorce if he just plunked down that kind of money on a new house. Abbie could do a lot worse than to have a committed guy who doesn’t want to announce their engagement for a while out of considering to his ex and kids.

Here’s a photo of the exterior of Ryan’s new house. Credit: Fame. And the header is of Abbie and Ryan outside of Villa on 7/18/08. Look how she’s holding her hand up to her face! She definitely wants people to see that ring. It doesn’t look like like a traditional engagement ring, but it’s pretty and she seems like she’s trying to make sure it’s photographed. Just because a woman wears a ring on the 3rd finger of her left hand and the National Enquirer (Lord, help me) says so does an engagement make.

  2. lulu says:

    whatever… he’s hot.

  3. Blackalicious says:

Looks like costume jewelry so maybe it’s not. I like them though. He shouldn’t live in fear of what the public thinks of her, screw that. He owes them nothing. It’s his life. His ex moved on so that should help.
I like her more than Reese; she seems low key and probably is way more suited to his personality anyway. If it’s true good for them~

  4. Syko says:

I like them both, and hope they work out whatever problems they’re having. If they don’t, I could probably make room for Ryan in my place. 😉

  5. Bodhi says:

If its true, good for them. I like Ryan alot & while I was bummed when he & Reece split up, it seemed like they just grew up

  6. Kaiser says:

How in the world did Ryan afford such a sweet pad? He hasn’t worked on any blockbusters with big paychecks.

Oh. Maybe Reese had to give him money in the divorce settlement?

  7. daisy424 says:

    He was great in ‘Crash’.

  8. Syko says:

He was also good as the suicidal son in Monsters Ball, and more recently in Stop-Loss. Not to mention being one of the more appealing pieces of eye candy Hollywood has to offer.

  9. Celebitchy says:

Sycko that was Heath Ledger in Monster’s Ball. He was really good and remembering that just made me sad.

  10. MSat says:

Actually, Syko, that was Heath Ledger who played Billy Bob Thornton’s son in “Monster’s Ball.”

My favorite movie with Ryan is STILL Cruel Intentions. The chemistry between him and Reese was irresistible. I’m still mourning that split, but I guess it’s time to get over it if they have, huh?

  11. daisy424 says:

CB: I liked your idea about setting up something where people can talk privately to each other.
    Any closer to that?

  12. aimee says:

That is a ring she has had forever. It’s jade and it’s not an engagement ring. These two should go for it they make a great couple and who cares what a few people think. They should get married in Oz not the US.

  13. boomchakaboom says:

If she thinks she’s mad now, just wait till the day he has an affair with someone else. Full circle.

  14. Kristin says:

MSTAT I agree with you. Cruel Intentions is probably my favorite movie and the first thing I saw him in. I haven’t watched it since they announced they were splitting up. :[

  15. Syko says:

Crap! You’re right! How was I thinking it was Ryan?

OK, he was good in Stop-Loss.

    *walking away red-faced*

  16. Lauri says:

Cruel Intentions? Seriously? I thought that was one of the worst movies I’d ever seen!

It is just an updated remake of the absolutely fantastic Dangerous Liaisons. If you like CI that much, I’ll bet you would love DL…you should try watching it.

  17. Obvious says:

I wear a Caludit on my left ring finger. It’s not an engagement or even a promise ring. Just a ring I wear.

But if it’s true, good for everyone. Kudos for Ryan for being so mature. I love him

  18. Kristin says:

    Sorry I meant MSat!

  19. Kristin says:

How do you know I haven’t seen DL, Lauri? I just prefer Cruel Intentions. But, different strokes.

  20. Bodhi says:

Gee, what a novel idea MSat! 😆

  21. Amy says:

Eek! As a parent of two young children, I look at that house and see dangers everywhere! I’ll keep my modest 3,500 sq ft house that doesn’t drop off into a canyon, thank you.

  22. cara says:

    he’s got a great house!!

  23. MoonChild says:

Ryan is under some kind of curse. He keeps repeating the exact same pattern. He goes after women who are more talented than he is, and tries to take them down by cheating on them.

Abbie is even more talented than Reese, more of a powerhouse dramatic actress, and is about to hit the top of the top. Ryan, again, will become insanely jealous. Maybe violent — he strikes me as capable of murder. I’d be scared if I were her.

  24. Bodhi says:

What?! ^^ Thats ridiculous. Those kinds of comments need to be backed up by some manner of a shread of something that might be considered proof on Mars.

  25. jay says:

Huh? You must be joking. He seems like he’s a push over. He didn’t get bossed around by Reese for seven years because he’s all alpha male.

Maybe Abbie is less of a fame seeker then Reese. Maybe she’ll do her costume dramas and not need the franchise movies and product endorsements and that will be a better fit for him.

  26. r4t says:

They must be amazingly good looking for real if they look this good in a shitty paparazzi picture. His eyes are so damn blue. Anyway their kids are going to be gorgeous. Congrats.

  27. Trashaddict says:

Abbie, the dude’s very white bread. Save yourself some time and get out now.

  28. mjp says:

I don’t think Ryan seems that happy. Neither does she. I don’t think it’ll work.

  29. I doubt the NE says:

Why would they announce an engagement if they wanted to fly under the radar and get married without anyone knowing about it. As soon as they are “engaged” they will get way too much paparazzi attention. If they are keeping it a secret they must have agreed that it is the right thing to do.

  30. mjp says:

I guess Ryan’s engagement is not a seret any more.

  31. Mpea says:

They look like brother and sister – gross.

  32. puz says:

A total upgrade from Reese’s dolphin forehead and witch chin. She’s probably nice to him too which must be a nice change of pace

  33. mjp says:

I don’t really care for either of them or the house. If they make it together so be it. Who cares.

  34. mjp says:

    oh well.

  35. HAL says:

He was much better then her in Stop Loss. I think he’s a very good actor.

I like them together though they seem like they have alot in common.

  36. Todd says:

Ryan is awesome,, Abbie I don’t really know that well.. I think we all just have to trust that he will make the right decision!! Lord knows the boy can take care of himself.. I hope it works for them both.

  37. Zefrey Love says:

Got to love this guy,and yes he has made his own big name movies, nothing to do with his (X) GOD some People don’t know nothing.I love 54,and boy-blue,stop-loss and all the movies he makes better, just because hes in it.
Zefrey Love,I don’t like the flat roof on his house, junk on top,and it tends to hold water, causes weight,so keep it clean!

  38. Zefrey says:

Do you think he ever looks at all of this stuff?
If he does, keep up the good work, you know we “lov” YA.
Me my wife and kids have alot of your movies.
