The stars were out for the premiere of movie industry parody Tropic Thunder last night. Katie Holmes flew from her Broadway rehearsals in NY to LA in order to accompany her husband to the premiere. Cruise makes a cameo in the film as a swearing paunchy executive in an obvious reference to Sumner Redstone, the Viacom head who fired the actor after his Oprah and Matt Lauer PR scandal. Cruise and Redstone were seen having lunch together earlier this year and Redstone is said to have found Cruise’s imitation funny.
Holmes stood tall in heels next to her husband. She wore a tiered dark blue cami top with a tight pencil skirt that made her look pregnant from some angles. I’m not inclined to think she’s pregnant, though. Katie is pretty slouchy and I’ve been fooled into thinking she was pregnant in the past when she really just had bad posture. In this case I think the skirt is just poofing out at the top a little. There are sure to be people calling her pregnant based on these, but I’m going to have to vote “no” for now.
Disability advocates groups protested outside the premiere last night. They were particularly offended at the repeated use of the word “retard” to refer to a character played by Ben Stiller in a subplot. Tropic Thunder also features Robert Downey Jr. playing an actor who dyed his skin to play an African-American soldier in a Vietnam War movie. Producers say they’re making fun of the lengths actors go to get Oscars and that there is no affront meant to people with disabilities. Groups such as the Special Olympics and American Association of People with Disabilities are calling for a nationwide boycott of the film.
Also shown at the premiere are Jack Black and his wife Tanya, Jodie Foster, Robert Downey, Jr. and his wife Susan, Amy Adams – love her, Alicia Silverstone, Matthew McConaughey, Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Jason Bateman, Nick Nolte, Steve Coogan and Brandon T. Jackson.
Tropic Thunder is out in the US tomorrow, August 13.

Why does Jack Black always grope women on the red carpet? Is it an anxiety thing? It is really unattractive. Get some dignity!
Katie is a pretty girl but she really needs to stop laughing like that (it looks exaggerated), it makes her look like the joker. Angelina also does that sometimes, not a good look.
Tom, he looks so old and his looks are quickly fading away, what a shame. As for Jack Black, he always been ugly so no change there but his wife looks really cute, how he got her is a mystery to me.

I never thought I’d ever see Katie Holmes smile like that again. She always looks so miserable. One of the reasons I used to love her was because of her infectious smile, and girly charm. I can almost see a glimpse of the old Katie in these photos, where she’s smiling.
I like Katie’s outfit, but that horrible haircut has to go.
And WTF was Jodie Foster doing there? Does she have a cameo in the film too?

Katie looks cute when she smiles like that, it is unguarded and candid, she looks happy.

I don’t love Katie’s outfit – the top doesn’t fit her very well and makes her look flat-chested. No comment on the hair – some people can pull off a short cut, others should stick with their glorious, thick, wavy locks, like Katie.
And why do I always get a little sick to my stomach when I see her gazing adoringly at Tom? It all feels so orchestrated and icky to me.
Jack Black does that over the top ‘I am funny thing that Adam Sandler does too. It is so annoying. But it will not stop me from seeing this movie. It sounds funny. I could use some laughter.LOL.
Katie Holmes actually looks very nice hmmmm, come to think of it, she has been looking nice lately, less guarded and sullen. Good for her. I lover her pencil dress, though I am not a fan of pencil dresses or Skirts.
What is Matthew McConaughey wearing? I know he is a new father but gawd there is no excuse for that outfit on the red carpet. Did he even think before throwing it on? I guess he is thinking we should be lucky he bothered to wear a shirt.

I get why the protesters are protesting, but couldn’t they use their energy for something more useful? When I read that “We have abilities not disabilities” sign in the picture I immediately thought, yeah, blind people can see too, it’s just that it’s all black.
I understand their cause, but I feel like the word “retard” has lost its original meaning since the coming of political correctness. I don’t even associate people who are disabled with it. It means stupid or lame to me. If I ever heard someone call someone who was disabled a retard I’d be mad, even if it is the “correct” usage of the word.
This movie promises to be fun. Those people should find better things to do. If they are retards, they can’t possibly know what is good for them can they?

Katie looks awesome as does Tom!!! Wish I was there with them… I love Katie’s smile like that.. She obviously misses Tom when he is not around, because she seems sad in her New York pictures. Her Dress is beautiful, and I love her hair cut.
