Screen Actors Guild Awards Open Post: Hosted by Sofia Vergara’s rack

dga_awards_76_wenn3185767

The Screen Actors Guild Awards start in a few hours, with a red carpet show starting on E! at 6 pm (EST), and the awards show starting at 8 pm (EST) on TNT (live). Since my Golden Globes predictions were rather disastrous, I won’t even try to guess who is going to win… no, I can’t stop myself. Here are my picks for the top acting categories in film (FULL LIST OF NOMINEES HERE):

Ensemble: The cast of The King’s Speech
Best Actor: Colin Firth, The King’s Speech
Best Actress: Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right
Best Supporting Actor: Geoffrey Rush, The King’s Speech
Best Supporting Actress: Melissa Leo, The Fighter

I know, I know. Natalie Portman is probably going to win Actress, much to my dismay. But wouldn’t it be great to see Natalie’s little bitchface lose? Wouldn’t that be delicious? As far as my prediction that the SAG will go to Geoffrey Rush and not Christian Bale… well, actors love the older, more badass members of their guild. And Rush is just amazing.

By the way, these are photos from last night’s Directors Guild Awards, in which Tom Hooper won top honors. Hooper is the director of The King’s Speech, meaning that this is the second prominent guild top honor for TKS, directors guild and producers guild. This means that The King’s Speech is now the front-runner for Best Picture, not The Social Network. Which means that The King’s Speech is where you should put your money for Best Ensemble tonight at the SAGs.

Also, I hate Sofia’s dress. And Natalie’s. Helena looks over it too! The DGAs were not a good event, fashion-wise. Let’s hope the SAGs are better.

I’ll be updating when the SAGs start.

UPDATES:

*Jesus, why did they do Best Actor, TV first? That sucked that The Hamm lost. I don’t watch Boardwalk Empire, so I don’t know if the show deserves all of these accolades.

*Melissa Leo wins Best Supporting! Good for her. Her speeches could be better though. Just sayin’.

*Is anyone else tired of Betty White? I mean, I love the old broad, and she’s wonderful and funny, but stop giving her crap out of… what? Misguided pity? A half-hearted attempt to look non-ageist? Ugh.

*I’m sad that Mad Men is losing out on everything, I really am.

* YAY for Modern Family. Great ensemble, so glad they won something.

*Kind of love that Alec Baldwin won again. I’ll buy that he’s a son of a bitch in real life, but he’s hilarious on 30 Rock.

* Christian Bale wins and the Real Dicky Ecklund awards-bombed the speech. I was surprised by how gracious Bale is throughout this awards season. He’s really trying, bless his heart.

* Natalie Portman took it down a notch for this acceptance speech. Thank God. I don’t think I could handle another “conceiving the conception” speech. Plus, she looked great.

* I loved Claire Danes in Temple Grandin. I do not love her in real life, though.

* What’s with all of the gratuitous shots of Justin Timberlake?

* YAY for Colin Firth. So deserved. So lovely.

* YAY for The King’s Speech. Excellent win!!! Looking forward to it winning Best Picture.

sorry kaiser, since i almost always agree with you, but i love sofias dress. i think she looks great.

  2. truthSF says:

Kaiser, I like your pick, hopefully the SAG voters will agree.

  3. phlyfiremama says:

HBC for the win! She looks fabulous..:)

  4. albeli says:

At least Natalie doesn’t have a giant flower stuck on her again. But what’s that weird white tag?

Funny, she’s what, about 4 months along? Maybe 5? And she’s already as big as she was in Staw Wars Ep. 3, where we were supposed to believe she was full term with twins.

  5. birdgherl says:

I am pulling for Annette too, and not just b/c of bitchface but because she is a far superior actor than anyone in the running. Her performance in TKAA was effortless genius!

  6. Marjalane says:

Why on earth is Natalie Portman dressing like a pregnant Elizabeth Montgomery on Bewitched? It’s so 60’s housewifey. I don’t even know who’s nominated for SAG- if the Gosdong isn’t there, neither am I.

  7. Nanea says:

I don’t get the buttons on SV’s dress, otherwise it’s not too bad. It’s not really good either though.

Fingers crossed for Annette, and of course for Colin. And actually for Mila, because she’s not nominated for the Oscar. Cast will probably go to TSN though.

  8. albeli says:

    I love Sofia’s dress.

Hailey Steinfeld looks really cute. It’s refreshing to see a teen who dresses age appropriately and yet looks fab.

  9. albeli says:

@ Marjalane–ITA about Natalie’s pregnancy style. She looks so dumpy & frumpy since she got pregnant. It’s really bad.

  10. sammie323 says:

    Everyone is wearing red!

  11. sammie323 says:

Except Angie Harmon, who apparently killed several flamingos for her dress

  12. xxodettexx says:

such a pretty dress [on sofia]

ok, back to reading the post and comments

    🙂

  13. Vi says:

i’m not fussed on the fabric of sofia’s dress but i love the shape of it. it’s a beautiful cut on her.

  14. Liana says:

Oh God, HATE Angie Harmon’s dress. Yuck.

And Jenna Ushkowhatever could really go a little less tight. One’s belly button should not be visible in one’s gown. And shut up, the “quality of life” is not necessarily better in LA than in NY. Go away, Gleechild.

Dianna Agron, Jane Lynch, and Chris Colfer are the only people on “Glee” I can stomach.

  15. truthSF says:

    sammie323:

“Except Angie Harmon, who apparently killed several flamingos for her dress”
    =======================================

She must’ve killed several hundred flamingos, her dress is ridiculous.

  16. xxodettexx says:

i love mila! she just seems so happy to be there!

why am i using so many exclamation points!!!

  17. Mystic Cox says:

    Sofia looks so awesome!!!

    Yeah for her.

She will look great at 80.

  18. Mystic Cox says:

    Go see Black Swan.

    It is crazy good.

    Mila is hot.

  19. Kaiser says:

Yeah, SOfia Vergara looks amazing at the SAGs! I alos love Julianna Margilies.

Hated Mila Kunis’s dress. Hated Jenna Fisher’s dress. Hated Jane Lynch’s dress. Hated Angie Harmon’s dress.

And there are WAY too many Glee nobodies.

  20. CB Rawks says:

    I love Sofia’s dress! Natalie’s is a fail, though.

  21. Liana says:

I loved Mila Kunis’ dress. Natalie’s not so much.

  22. Isa says:

I think Sofia’s dress looks amazing. She looks amazing. My only critque is that it could fit a little better in the chest. They look squished.

Natalie shouldn’t be giving up so early in the pregnancy. SMDH.

  23. sammie323 says:

Aww, Christian Bale cut his hair but is growing out his beard.

  24. Maddie says:

sofia looks sooo pretty! i love her dress!!!! 😀

  25. Kaiser says:

    The Hamm Dong has arrived!!!

And Helena Bonham Carter wins at life.

  26. gloaming says:

Just caught a glimpse of Julia Stiles looking much better than her GG appearance but Christina Hendricks channeling Evan Rachel Wood is wrong.

Nicole Kidman should lose the necklace but otherwise looks lovely.

Christian looks better groomed but hopefully he’ll lose the beard* by The Oscars.

JT is a tool. Always was. Always will be.

Hilary Swank looks much less harsh as she usually does.

    * facial hair.

Enter the Kardashians……………. Bringing down the tone……

  27. Tess says:

Also liked Julianna M’s red dress.

Seeing a trend, also, toward classically inspired, architectural-looking dresses.

And on a highly bitchy note…Giulianna Rancic is almost grotesque looking in close-ups, which they usually avoid showing. I think she does a good job interviewing…but jeeeze she ought to gain a few pounds, wear less foundation and concealer, and generally soften her look.

Eva Longoria came out looking pot-bellied and short. Not a good dress for her.

  28. Cherry Rose says:

Love Sofia’s dress. Though I would rather have Helena’s anyday.

Though I have to agree, Helena totally looks over these award shows.

  29. gloaming says:

Shitty live feed if anyone’s interested

    http://www.boxlive.tv/channels/tikdlls3

  30. Liana says:

gah, Paz de la Huerta haunts my nightmares.

  31. Solveig says:

ooh! Natalie is wearing a DECENT gown! Call it an improvement.
I saw The King’s speech last Friday, and although I understand that it’s a solid, good movie, I left the cinema feeling quite disappointed.
Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are spectacular, and fortunately Hooper directed the movie with a firm hand, but there’s something that I’m still missing, I don’t get the fascination with the British Royal Family and I don’t undestand this… ass-kissing? I was convinced that the movie was something as good, as brilliant and as profound as The Queen, but I was wrong.
It’s safe to say that details, acting, photography, script are well balanced, fortunately. With a story like this the real risk is overacting, and over- everything.
Anyway, I have a crush on Firth since I saw him in the BBC’s Pride and prejudice series, and above all he’s good enough to deserve every award in every festival.
Hope he’s (and G. Rush) going to win.

Ps: thanks gloaming for the link!

  32. gloaming says:

YVW Solveig. I havent seen TKS yet, but your review was great/interesting thanks. I might just watch it through erm…….other channels, rather than the cinema.

    Ps Betty White’s a badass

  33. lucy2 says:

I loved Sarah Hyland, Juliana Margolis, Sofia Vergara, Diana Argon, and Tina Fey’s gowns.
Hated Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, jennifer Lawrence (blinding!) and especially Angie Harmon’s gowns.
Nicole Kidman’s was bad, and that necklace did not go at all. Amy Adams looked a bit too severe, and Lea Michele’s neckline was too low.
Mila Kunis – I usually don’t like AMQ, and on anyone else I would have hated it, but I kind of liked it on her.

  34. Racheal says:

    I’m Glee’d out. Ug.
Mila Kunis looks gorgeous. She’s owning that McQueen.
Jeremy Renner, Jeremy Renner, Jeremy Renner, my sweet imaginary bf. Why did you run down the red carpet so fast? Don’t you know some of us want to savor your cute little self? Now I gotta watch the whole damn show to see you for more than a split second.

  35. MJ says:

Natalie’s really pushing the pregnant thing for votes. I’ve had 3 kids, am nowhere near as petite as she is, and never ever did I need to wear a mumu when I was only 4-5 months along. She’s getting so annoying.

  36. mln76 says:

I guess I just have to accept that Portman is getting the Oscar. I hope once she pops out the baby she won’t be as annoying …. maybe next year Annette.

  37. Liana says:

Words cannot express how much I adore Helena Bonham Carter. And she looked lovely.

  38. Camille says:

    @mln76: ITA. 🙁

(I also hope that NP won’t become Gisele Bundchen 2.0. Can you imagine it *shudder* 🙄 )

  39. Az says:

WTF Helena Bonham-Carter??? WHERE IS THE CRAZY?

  40. truthSF says:

I’m going to predict that TKS wins best picture at the Oscars.

  41. gloaming says:

As much as I love Annette and the other Actors in that category…..

I really hope Natalie wins The Oscar.

I hope she wears a clingy dress so you can all whine about her exploiting her pregnancy.

I hope she get’s emotional when she mentions Benjamin in her winning speech.

Because honestly, the reaction to her
here in the comments is hilarious.

    Keep it up ladies!

  42. Tess says:

I loved seeing Ernie Borgnine. He’s got so much heart and soul. What a beautiful man.

Hillary Swank look like she had a feed bag slung over her shoulder when she walked out to present. Tragic dress.

  43. gabs says:

Im confused. Why did you use pictures of them from not the sags?

Sofia was wearing a blue thing and helena was different. Your pics arent from the SAGS but whatever.

Nicole Kidman and Mila Kunis were best dressed

Im just happy that Glee got nothing. Ha in your face Ryan Murphy, Modern Family is better!

Im confused as to why Community isnt nominated though. They are even funnier than MF to me

  44. MrsOdie2 says:

Tonight I watched my husband and his friend turn into drooling idiots everytime Sofia appeared on the screen. She has powers.

  45. Sunnyjyl says:

    Love Sofia’s dress.
I’d like to see Annette Bening win an Oscar, but I literally fell asleep during TKAA. Must have missed her Oscar worthy scenes. I’m calling it for Natalie Portman. That chick gave me nightmares. I COULDN’T sleep after watching Black Swan.

  46. moviegoer says:

It’d be great if The Social Network wins an Oscar for Best Picture..:P That’s just me. Don’t really get all the hate on Natalie Portman’s acceptance speeches, but that’s just me I guess lol

  47. My2Cents says:

Sofia looks breathtaking in that dress. To me, that is perfect.

  48. slim27 says:

why all the hate for np? I will totally do sofia if i was a guy. She is sooooo hot!

  49. brin says:

I love Boardwalk Empire so I’m glad it’s doing well.
I thought HBC looked great and Natalie looked good, too. Loved Mila Kunis’ gown and Diana Aragon(?) looked beautiful.

  50. sisi says:

Susan Sarandon looked lovely. Claire Danes’ dress would have looked nice if she had not worn that long belt. And Mila Kunis looked stunning. Those three were definitely my favorite ladies of the night. they stood out.

  51. bluhare says:

I’m actually starting to look forward to when Natalie Portman has her baby. Mostly because I bet she and Gwynnie have to one up themselves over child nutrition and development. It will be be fun! At the awards? Sick to death of her and her smugface.

  52. original kate says:

sofia looks amazing – gorgeous dress, the fit is perfect, and the styling is very simple. is natalie wearing a white bra under a black dress? no, no, no – she should know better. HBC looks lovely, and rather understated for her.

  53. DD says:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Sofia look bad. She always bring sexy 100 percent. Whenever I see a picture of her I start to question my heterosexuality.
