Katy Perry is the March cover girl for Elle Magazine. And how! Goodness, this cover shot is…um. It’s like Elle is overcompensating for how utterly boring Katy is by using the boldest, brightest colors all together for the cover. Elle sent us some interview excerpts that are okay – one of the most interesting quotes (in my opinion) is Katy describing her style: “Bettie Page meets Wonder Woman meets Doris Day meets Judy Jetson meets Natalie Wood meets Daphne Guinness meets Chloë Sevigny kind of look.” Ugh. So, she’s going to name-check all of those styles and yet her own style is so prosaic. I used to think Katy was on to something almost coherent, style-wise, when she was doing the too-sweet candy imagery, fashion-wise and for her music videos. At least there was some method to it, you know? But this “Now I’m all about the boobs, and now I’m just a shock artist and now I’m just Bettie Page and now I’m —!” is boring.
On life before she became a successful artist and the ultimatum she gave herself: “I had two cars repossessed, and I was writing bad checks, but I gave myself a timeline. I thought, Okay, if I don’t make it by 25, I’m just going to get married and pop out some babies and do some crafts.”
On her down-to-earth personality: “It’s important to be relatable and normal. And I think that what helps with that, for me, is that I had the rug pulled out from underneath my feet so many times. It was like, ‘Listen up, bitch, you’re not going to get served this on a silver platter—you’ve got to work for it!’ I don’t feel like I can act like an entitled bitch yet! I still have so much to prove.”
On her much talked about figure: “I was shaped like a square at one time. I was! I’m generally around 130 pounds, which is totally fine for me. But when I was a kid, I was the same height and weighed more like 145. And I had enormous boobs that I didn’t know what to do with, so I wore minimizers, which were not cute. Those thick-ass straps! I got made fun of for the over-the-shoulder boulder holder…and all I wanted was to look like Kate Moss. Little did I know…that these things would come in handy someday.”
On her current look: “Bettie Page meets Wonder Woman meets Doris Day meets Judy Jetson meets Natalie Wood meets Daphne Guinness meets Chloë Sevigny kind of look.”
On her relationship with husband, Russell Brand: “Everything clicked really fast. We kind of instantly got past all the surfacey stuff. And ever since then, there hasn’t been a dull moment.”
On how their relationship works: “We both needed balance, and we give that to each other. It wasn’t about me taming him, which is what everyone always says—it was about timing.”
On performing: “I think some people will die on the stage, and I’m not so sure I want to do that. Like, I want to have kids! I’m totally fine with saying that. I think some people are scared because they’re worried it’s going to ruin their career, but I want to live a full life.”
On how her career has panned out: “I feel like I’m at a point in my life right now where I could potentially stick around. I don’t feel like a diva, but I think diva is a great and powerful word in the sense of what Beyonce makes it. And maybe I can’t be Beyonce, but maybe I can be Cyndi Lauper. I mean be like her, not be her. That would just be weird.”

I think Katy will end up having kids. I just don’t know if it will be with Russell Brand. I think he’s loyal to her… for now. But Helen Mirren is calling. As are other ladies. Thousands of ladies. I’m not saying that I actively HOPE that Russell and Katy breakup – I don’t, I wish them well, etc. I’m just saying that I know for a fact it’s not going to last, and for all of her faults, I would feel really bad for Katy if she got dumped while she was pregnant.

“Yet”? How about “I don’t feel like I can act like an entitled bitch…ever”????
SHEESH
Eh. She’s annoying but it seems that she’s calmed down a bit. I think I’m the only one who thinks that the marriage will last. I dunno…they seem good together.
‘Oh, Honey’.
Eh..she doesn’t bother me. She’s cute…there are plenty of other “stars” that grate on me. However, her clothing, makeup, and hair on this cover are GROSS. Too much.
If she does, Russell can just retweet that candid pic. What a buzz kill that was!
ahhh somebody who doesnt lie about their weight! yayyy
but jesus the cover photo.
she actually does seem down to earth to me
I’d say she’s one of those omnipresent harmless semi-talented people to whom I’m as indifferent as I can be, given their omnipresence. There’s always a group of those people who will eventually fade away. Please.
Now while the suit doesn’t work for Katy, I would LOVE to see Helena Bonham Carter in this! I think she could rock the hell out of this with her different color shoes and wild hair…
Does she always have to show her cleavage (ah mean boobs) all the time? I am begining to think that it is all she have to offer. Yawn!
I like her. She seems fun, and I’ve heard she’s very nice.
Wow, she has a killer body. I’m jealous! lol
Oh, nuts.
I have her “default life.” (married, popped out babies and now make crafts)
Sigh.
I don’t care for her at all. But I love the Elle cover stylist!
I hate to say it but besides a couple of crappy songs, I enjoy her new album and I like her alot. She seems alright and a horrible dresser. Harmless really.
ugh! i know i should be nice, but i just cant with this girl. she does act like an entitled bitch.she has no talent, no voice. she does have a killer body though.if she could just fess up that her fame comes from her looks then maybe i would take her a bit more seriously, but she just comes off so…ugh! i mean really, look at the list of women that she names herself with. this girl needs to get a grip.
Stay true to who you are and embrace those curves girl!
I agree ghostbuster – why is this no talent, autotuned fake being shoved down our throats. For the love of all that is holy and sacred, can’t fashion mags put fashion models on their covers – it’s not like she has anything interesting to say – since she doesn’t actually write her own “music”, you will note she can’t talk in detail about the creative process – the interview is just aimless bs. The fashion mags have completely jumped the shark.
I’m curious. How do you know for a fact it won’t last? What’s the fact? Tell!!!
It’s okay Pebbles, I do too. But we totally rock the PTO/PTA set! *smooch*
I think he definitely loves her, but he’s much more mature and she always comes across as super young and a little ditzy. I give it three years, tops.
I still see that pic Brand tweeted of her with no makeup in my head lol…but she seems downright adorable and sweet – nothing wrong with this gal (so far) and just the fact that she even acknowledges the self-entitlement thing is enough to show her character is strong.
She will not stick around, she doesnt have enough talent to last the long haul.
She is so full of it regarding her “natural” completely plastic & fake breasts! Id like to see a picture of her when younger – i guarantee she keeps those under wraps because it would make it obvious she had a boob job.
shut up, katy.
Her boobs are real. The girl has no reason to lie. I’ve seen photos when she was young and they were even bigger because she was heavier and they hang naturally when not in a push up top. She’s not the greatest singer and won’t be around forever, but the girl put out a real catchy album, Teenage Dream that people her age or younger enjoy. I even run to a few songs. No hate here on her.
It was about timing and they both needed balance, so it clicked and moved quickly?
Good luck with that.
not a fan of her music or much pop music in general, always suspected that there was a void beyond her eyes, but saw an interview with her in passing recently, and — kinda liked her. kinda liked this article too. maybe i just relate to her tights in the second pic.
The first time my husband saw her, he said ‘mom in disguise’. Now everything she does I can’t unsee it. She is a total mom-type trying to be some fierce bitch. Which is fine, just, I don’t think it is really her so it comes off as really contrived and awkward. IDK. Just not buying the ‘Brand, Katy’.
she sounds so lame!! like a teen talking about ambitions!! Meeehhhh!!!
Newsflash: it’s actually OK to NOT be an entitled b**** ever! Even if you’re a celebrity! 🙂
