Blasphemy: Kim Kardashian interviews Elizabeth Taylor for Harper’s Bazaar

kleo5

This is just horrible. HORRIBLE. Kim Kardashian is the cover girl for Harper’s Bazaar, despite being one of the worst “models” in the world. But that’s not what I’m pissed about. Bazaar actually put Kim and ELIZABETH TAYLOR in the same room. It’s completely ridiculous. Elizabeth is a Dame, a two-time Oscar winner, one of the leading advocates for AIDS research funding and fundraising and a mother and grandmother. Kim is a kat-faced fart blossom. UGH.

KIM KARDASHIAN: You are my idol. But I’m six husbands and some big jewels behind. What should I do?
ELIZABETH TAYLOR: I never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands. For me, life happened, just as it does for anyone else. I have been supremely lucky in my life in that I have known great love, and of course I am the temporary custodian of some incredible and beautiful things. But I have never felt more alive than when I watched my children delight in something, never more alive than when I have watched a great artist perform, and never richer than when I have scored a big check to fight AIDS. Follow your passion, follow your heart, and the things you need will come.

KK: For this story, we were inspired by Cleopatra. What’s your advice on how to be a queen?
ET: I have never wanted to be a queen! Cleopatra was a role, and I am an actor, so it was fun to play one, but it’s not real. The real Cleopatra had an incredibly complicated life, and she had to be very, very canny to survive as long as she did. For me, the most interesting thing about her was her passion. The things that are important to me—being a mother, a businesswoman, an activist—are all things that were borne out of great passion.

KK: I am a huge Elizabeth Taylor nerd, as will now become clear. You have the world’s most iconic jewelry collection. Of your three most famous diamond rings— a 29.4-carat from Mike Todd, the Krupp diamond at 33.19 carats, or the Taylor-Burton 69.42-carat diamond—which one meant the most? Does size matter?
ET: The Krupp is an extraordinary stone. It has such life and brilliance when light shines through it. Size does matter, but so does the size of the emotion behind it.

KK: What has been your greatest jewelry adventure?
ET: I have had many. I was especially thrilled to buy the Prince of Wales plume pin at the 1987 auction of the jewelry of the Duchess of Windsor. Richard and I had once admired it, so much so that he asked the duchess if he could copy it for me. She very graciously agreed, but we both felt weird about it, so we didn’t. And then when it finally came up for auction, I really felt I wanted to have it in my collection—because I admired her great style so much, because Richard had wanted me to have the brooch, and, frankly, because the money from the sale went to support AIDS research. I bid from my house in L.A., and when they told me I had won it, I thought, Yes, this was really meant to be in my care, at least for a while.

KK: What are your personal favorite looks, on- or offscreen?
ET: I loved the Edith Head lavender dress that I wore to the Oscars in 1970. It was designed around the Taylor-Burton diamond. Some of the Cleopatra costumes were fun—they even had real gold threads—and I wore them as evening dresses afterward! I also loved some of the great caftans that I wore in the ’60s and ’70s with big sunglasses and major jewelry. I love to be casual and comfortable, but I also love the easy glamour of wearing jewelry all the time.

KK: It is coming up on the 20th anniversary of your classic fragrance, White Diamonds. Could you have imagined it would do so well? How does a lady smell good for life?
ET: I always wanted to have a fragrance, and I always wanted to be able to connect with people in ways other than through film. Fragrance is an incredibly intimate thing. It can evoke very specific thoughts or memories and is a little different for each person who wears it. I also think it’s the most accessible luxury. I had no idea that White Diamonds would become a classic when we began, but I am thrilled it has because it means we have really succeeded in giving women a little bit of luxury every day. It is very special to me, and we certainly plan to celebrate this anniversary all year!

KK: You have starred in movies with some of the dreamiest men of all time: Rock Hudson, Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando, James Dean, Paul Newman, Michael Caine, and Warren Beatty. Who else would you have loved to work with?
ET: I love Johnny Depp, and I love Colin Farrell—both brilliant, nuanced actors with great range.

KK: Do you think if Richard Burton were alive today, you’d be married to him?
ET: It was inevitable that we would be married again, but it’s not up for discussion.

KK: You have always been ahead of your time—and now you’re on Twitter. What do you love about it? And [cheekily] will you please follow me?
ET: I like the connection with fans and people who have been supportive of me. And I love the idea of real feedback and a two-way street, which is very, very modern. But sometimes I think we know too much about our idols and that spoils the dream. So, like all things, it is to be used with care! Yes, of course I’ll follow you, love.

[From Harper’s Bazaar]

Okay, to give Kim some (minor) credit, she sounded very respectful and she asked solid questions. To give Liz some credit, she probably has no idea who Kim is. Oh, and I would love to see Elizabeth and Colin together. Just put them in a room with a bottle of whiskey and record that junk.

Anyway, Kim has a real interview with the magazine here. I just skimmed it – it’s nothing earth-shattering. The full “Kleopatra” photoshoot is here.

I am actually going to give Kim props she looks good as Cleopatra and her interview wasn’t too bad (considering what a vapid useless person Kim is). I wish he had asked about the part in Furious Love where it’s claimed that one of ET’s dogs ate Anne Boylen’s pearl.

  2. tracking says:

The Cleopatra shoot is horrific, but the interview is quite nice. Don’t know whether Kim K prepared the questions herself, but Elizabeth T answered in true grande dame style!

  3. fancyamazon says:

um, what? I picture Liz slapping the girl silly.

  4. Rita says:

I have to give Kim credit for having one hell of a publicist. She’s nothing but a sex tape, famewhore, inflatable looking Halloween costume but she’s out there every where. It’s a shame this will probably be Liz’s last interview. She’s not in good shape. Thanks for the memories, Liz.

  5. SolitaryAngel says:

The only perfume I will wear is White Diamonds…

  6. wonderwoman21 says:

The only thing Kim could manage to say to Elizabeth was “I have big breasts. I have a big butt. Want to see?” That about sums up her personality, or rather her lack there of

  7. Arianna says:

there’s so much to ask elizabeth taylor and she’s so focused on her damn jewelry ugh.
kim was respectful but she kind of showed her immaturity and how materialistic she is by her questions.
and she’s got nothing on Taylor as Cleo i’m sorry

  8. guesty says:

Doing her best to.channel ET as Cleopatra I guess. Whatever. But the twitter question was by far my fav since she seemed to show some genuine humility. Like Liz would’ve could’ve said no. Wonder if Liz really will follow her.

*checks dlisted for another white diamonds post…lol!*

  9. QUEST says:

Kim would have made a great Spinx not Cleopatra.

Those questions were definitely not from Kim. It actually made her sound well in likes of a better word “well-rounded” ha ha ha

  10. Courtney says:

Um Liz isn’t that type of person she respects all people even the most vapid among us such as Kim K and her sisters. as Liz has been famous since she was younger than Kims half sisters Kendall & Kyliee Jenner

  11. garvels says:

Kim’s questions were very “valley girl”,Elizabeth’s responses were quite thoughtful and eloquent. It just goes to show you that it really does not require much skill to become an entertainment journalist. Julianne Rancic and Ryan Seacrest should be in fear of losing their jobs.

  12. mojoman says:

The photo shoot looks like it was shot in the basement of JC PENNEY, so budget. And yeah, of all the questions you could ask Liz Taylor the Legend so to speak, she asked about her diamonds..wth?

  13. Jennay says:

i’m with you fancyamazon. seems KK’s questions were very focused on “things” and ET tried to reminder her several times about the importance of people, emotion, love, experiences and charity. I don’t think Kim was getting the message. I hope she does someday…

  14. Motor35 says:

i’d bet anything someone *gave* KK those questions to ask ET. she didn’t come up with that ish on her own.

  15. mln76 says:

@Arianna I have to defend Kim eventhough I hate her. Elizabeth Taylor has one of the most famous jewelry collections of all time. For instance she has in her possesion a pearl from Anne Boylen (yup Henry the 8th’s wife). She also has in her possesion the 33 carat Krupp-Diamond , also the 75 carat Taylor-Burton Diamond which actually was on display at Harry Winston stores around the world. ET actually wrote a book specifically about her jewelry. So yeah its appropriate. Check out Furious Love it gives much more detail on the Taylor/Burton marraige, their shared passion for jewelry, and epic love affair.
    @Motor I think your right.

  16. Arianna says:

    @ mln76

yeah no doubt she has an impressive jewelry collection just to me it seemed that almost all of them were to do with those!
maybe it was just the excerpt that made it that way, but i can imagine a lot of other questions i’d love to ask her!

  17. Lola7 says:

    When will the madness end?

  18. Marie says:

LMAO!! I couldn’t read anymore I got to “fart blossom” and died!!..Thank you Kasier

  19. jr says:

yeahhhhh…she’s beautiful and glamourous…should be on magazine covers!!!!! better than boring actresses who need to be styled up…I tell you…

  20. Jezi says:

In defense of Kim, for once, I think she did a pretty good job. I expected questions about hot guys and how to look sexy at all ages…lol. But she did good.

  21. mln76 says:

@Arianna agreed. I would love to spend the day talking to that woman about her husbands, her career, her costars, her drinking, and Michael Jackson. But I don’t think Kim is up to the task.

  22. Heavenbound says:

Why is this woman everywhere?!? Kim Kardashian is a scummy woman and she gets to interview a movie legend, unreal!! She must do a lot of casting couch favors… to be able to get all these gigs and media attention.

  23. Happymom says:

She interviewed Elizabeth Taylor? And was herself interviewed by Katie Couric for “Glamour”? Dear God. What is this world coming to? What, exactly, has this chick accomplished?

  24. garvels says:

Happymom-The girl has connections. In today’s world there is no need to be somewhat intelligent or to take time to perfect a craft; all that is required is money, connections and a booty. In reality, I guess booty trumps brains.

  25. Arianna says:

    @mln76
ahahahah that is definitely for sure!
i was expecting too much from her as an interviewer

  26. Novaraen says:

Bah…this trick looks terrible. She did interview ET okay, but how hard is it for her to read some questions someone else made up for her?

    Love Liz though…wow…such a woman!

  27. KLO says:

I liked this interview. It was respectful and cool.

  28. Bopa says:

KIM KARDASHIAN: You are my idol. But I’m six husbands and some big jewels behind. What should I do?

What Elizabeth Should Have Said: You should find your talent and focus on that. I started acting as a child and continued to act as I earned my chops in the industry. If you find something you’re good at you should do that. Now let’s take you for example Kim you’re good at…now what did you say you did again Kim?

  29. Bopa says:

    @Happymom

So you mean to tell me that Katie dive bombed Sara Palins political career by questioning her intelligence but she takes the time outside of her regular job to interview Kim Kardashian??

  30. LittleDeadGirl says:

I actually cringed at most of the questions but once more Taylor answered them beatifully and full of so much wit. Sigh. I love her, “Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf” is still one of my favorites. I also love Taming of the Shrew, she does it so so well and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was amazing. Damn I’m getting all nostalgic now and I want to curl up in bed and watch a bunch of her movies.

  31. KarenK says:

What was Harper’s thinking of when they shot that laughable picture of KK with a giant gold pussy(cat) between her legs??!!! With KK lifting her dress and laughing, no less.

The interview sounded like something from a teen magazine. How could Harper’s allow this talentless trash bag to interview an icon like Elizabeth Taylor?!
And, as one commenter stated, this could conceivably be one of her last interviews. Ms. Taylor is very ill.

This Kardashian invasion has to STOP!!!

  32. Isabel says:

I think KK looks like a variation of human on the cover shot, which is an upgrade from her usual mess.

As far as interviewing the Dame goes…come on! You know she didn’t write the questions. She read them from a piece of paper then played dressup for the cameras. Snoriffic.

  33. jover says:

I’m with you heavenbound and happymom – why do young girls want to be models when this brainless scumbag gets mag covers. What are the editors of american fashion mags smoking. Yes, Katie Couric needs to turn in her journalistic credentials – that’s right she’s in Egypt now covering a complex story way beyond her tiny insignificant brain – this is why people don’t watch the evening news bottom feeding journalism can’t be covered so easily.

  34. bmom says:

    Kardashians vs. Gabor sisters???

  35. Robocop says:

I really don’t know this KK — but her questions to Ms. Taylor sounded so immature, like one of a kid on a “kiddie program” that gets to “interview” a big person!!

So why would a reputable magazine allow this non-entity to interview an icon???? Isn’t she know for slutty behavior and no talent??!!

  36. machiavelli says:

ET’s answers are so poetic. It reflects her life experiences.

  37. ~M says:

Horrible makeup, horrible “posing”, horrible expression on her stupid face…

But most horrible of all is to read the SHALLOW questions. Read carefully the answers and you’ll figure out why.

  38. Michelle says:

Good God, is nothing sacred anymore? Kim Kardashian isn’t even worthy to be within a 50 mile radius of Ms. Taylor. For Haarpers Bazaar to even attempt a comparison between Kim and Dame Elizabeth is beyond comprehension. It sickens me that the vacuous Kardashian women have become icons to so many, especially in the fashion world. We truly have become a nation of morons.

  39. Kylie says:

I have one word to describe Kim’s Cleopatra photos: HORRIFYING.

  40. kelly261 says:

I have a subscription to Harpers Bazaar – I am seriously contemplating throwing this issue in the trash immediately upon arrival.

  41. ~M says:

    @38 – AMEN sister! thumbs up 🙂

  42. michigal says:

I just fired off an email to Harper’s Bazaar, asking them ‘what were they thinking’? It’s got to be the ultimate insult to Ms. Taylor, a multiple academy award nominee and winner.I can’t imagine why she even agreed to the interview. Good grief…

  43. Brooke says:

Did anyone catch the night that the Kardashian women appeared on David Lettermen recently? All they talked about were their vaginas…I seriously kid you not. It was truly jaw dropping. Perhaps Harpers Bazaar should have gone one step further and just put one big Kardashian vagina on the cover.

  44. Bopa says:

    @bmom

The Gabor sisters had personality, wit, class, and could act. The KKKs are a joke.

  45. garvels says:

@Jover-100% agree with all your points.

  46. Dahlia47 says:

I can’t believe it either. These magazines have sunk to a NEW LOW! And how she got even 15ft. from legend Elizabeth Taylor is BEYOND ME!! I am such a fan of this woman and just a HUGE fan of Hollywood’s Greats, so to know that she actually acknowledged and spoke to THIS NIN KuMPOOP (did I spell it right:) ) is really beyond me! I am just so sad that this is happening. They probably found eachother on Twitter. I blame technology for this!!! :]

  47. Dahlia47 says:

What we can do here is not buy anything with the K’s on it or watch their shows!! Seriously this is too much already! Next we’re going to see Lauren Bacall or Jane Russell on Jersey Shore!! Perish the thought!! 🙁

  48. Bopa says:

I don’t know why the blogs don’t do a Kardashian black out day. They did it with Paris and Tela before.

  49. fancyamazon says:

    @Jennay

That is exactly what I took away from it too. Kim wanted to talk about her jewels, her perfume, her jewels, her men, her jewels, and her looks. And Liz wanted to talk about how rich her life has been, and how rich anyone’s can be if they focus on the love and family and events unfolding around them instead of on the next check.

    Sigh.

  50. Camille says:

Those Katface Cleopatra photos are ridiculous! Is she hoping to play the role in that movie that AJ is apparently attached to? God, could you imagine it 😆 .

As for Katface even being in the same room as La Liz, complete blasphemy!!
I have a feeling that those questions were given to Kat to ask ET though, although Katface still came off as super superficial and shallow. I loved ET’s answers though. <3

I love Elizabeth Taylor. She has led an amazing and full life.

Elizabeth Taylor for ‘hot girl Friday’! 😀

  51. Laura says:

Poor Elizabeth Taylor. Look at the ‘celebrities’ she’s surrounded with now. Big difference from the 50s and 60s.

  52. mimi says:

    So Editor of Bazarr,

You could have picked from a number of (probably) unemployed recent grads of journalism to conduct this interview. But you chose a high school grad (?) who’s only “acclaim” is that she had sex on tape and, with the help of her mother, sold it. So sick of what this country has become.

  53. amber says:

solid questions? seriously?? it was all jewelry, jewelry, jewelry -.-
