Carrie Ann Inaba’s boyfriend proposes to her on Regis & Kelly: cheesy or sweet?

I’ve seen Dancing With The Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba co-hosting on Regis and Kelly in the past. She’s very bubbly and excitable, and the time I saw her she was happily showing off photos of her cute cats. Well Carrie was on Regis & Kelly today, doing guest hosting duties with Regis in Kelly’s place. Her fiance dropped in to propose to her towards the end of the show and damned if I wasn’t tearing up along with Carrie when I saw the video! It was really touching, and as cheesy as it may seem to propose on television I found it all very romantic. Here’s more, from Popeater:

Carrie Ann Inaba got more than she bargained for when she agreed to sub for Kelly Ripa on today’s episode of ‘Live With Regis and Kelly’ — 2.5 carats more, to be exact.

The ‘Dancing With the Stars’ judge was surprised on-air by her boyfriend of two years, Jesse Sloan, when he asked for her hand in marriage.

Earlier in the show, Inaba, 43, denied reports that she was engaged, showing off her bare ring finger to the audience.

In the show’s final minutes, all of that changed. The lighting crew set the mood as violinists ushered in the would-be groom, who told told Inaba how beautiful and inspiring she was to him, finally working up the nerve to ask, “Will you marry me?”

Inaba joyfully responded, “Yes! I will marry you!” and showed off her new 2.5-carat Rafinity princess-cut ring to the audience.

If things hadn’t gone as planned, Inaba always had a second choice: newly single Jake Gyllenhaal, who toasted the happy couple with fellow guest Howie Mandel following the proposal, had offered himself — and a fake ring — to Inaba before Sloan arrived with the real thing.

[From Popeater]

I know some people are going to call it tacky to make something like that public, but I disagree. Getting married is a way of showing that world that you want to spend the rest of your life with that person (at that time in your life). That’s why I find public proposals fitting. I thought it was very sweet of her boyfriend to do this. Guys stage grand gestures to propose because they want us to remember that moment forever. Now Carrie and Jesse will always have video of it, along with a very cute story to tell their friends and family. Congratulations to Carrie and Jesse on their engagement!

i think all public proposals are cheestastic. i’ve told mr. original kate that if he ever proposes to me in front of a crowd the answer will be no.

Even cheesier is this dude’s hair!

  10. lisa says:

At least they waited for the end of the show. I knew something was up with all that engagement banter.. and even when Jake came out. She was blushing like a school girl..

well I do find happiness in other’s happiness. Congrats to them both. Hope they have a wonderful life together.

  11. Bailey says:

    she is gorgeous, wow 43?
she looks better than Lindsey Lohan.

  12. Devon says:

I think it’s sweet. She looked genuinely shocked and happy. I’m glad they got it on video!

Engagements should be however the person wants it to be. For me and my husband it happened in our car. Then when I didn’t believe him (I was 23 and he was 20 at the time and thought we were too young), I made him do it again in the house we were house sitting in…like a million times until I realized he was serious! We had talked about it but it was something I was thinking was going to happen YEARS down the road! It really was perfect for us because we are not flashy people. We enjoy just doing stuff low key and without loads of people around. Our wedding was just that too. Only 63 people, including us, and it was at an Art Gallery with a cocktail reception. Nothing over the top just simple. It was perfect.

Normally I think televised proposals are pretty tacky but her immediate reaction made it really genuine and sweet

  14. Cleo says:

She looks like Jennifer Lopez who has always looked Filipina to me.

  15. Jackson says:

    It’s cute.

    However…..

Why do men do this: ‘Will you marry me?’ and then shove a ring in front of the lady? I find that so odd and cringe-inducing. And just weird. It’s like, I’m asking to spend our lives together but if that’s not enough, here’s a ring. I never understand why men feel the need to do the ring before they even get the question out of their mouths. Let the lady feel the emotion and joy of the question and the moment without hiding your face behind a ring. THEN, after she says YES, show her the ring. See, TWO big moments when you do it that way! ////end of rant////

I loved it! I always secretly wanted a public proposal. My husband proposed in our first apartment a few months after we moved in together. He gave a great speech too.

  17. lucy2 says:

I don’t think I’d want a public proposal, but sounds like she was OK with it and it was sweet.
I think to do something like that you’d better be darn sure she’s going to say yes though!

  18. Samigirl says:

I LOVE it. I was at Painting With A Twist last week, and instead of painting the tree we were all painting, a guy painted “Will You Marry Me” on his canvas. When his girlfriend asked to see it, he got up on stage and showed the whole room. It was the sweetest thing EVER 🙂

  19. the other mel says:

I think Reeg thought he was the one getting proposed to…he was right in there! It was sweet though.

  20. truetalk says:

i think public proposals and the getting on one knee thing are cheesy.

  21. Marianne says:

Didn’t Angie Harmon get engaged on Letterman or Leno some odd years back?

  22. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Cheesy, always cheesy. But I can barely stomach public displays of acknowledgement.

  23. sorrento says:

Very sweet and very cheesey and cutesy but memorable and why not? They look perfect for each other and it’s nice to see happiness like that!

  24. DSMR says:

If I were a 5 and was in a relationship with a 10 I’d be as public and cheesy as well. As it would be the only proof I had to show I was with her after she finally comes to her senses. Just saying…

  25. Me says:

I think it was sweet, but I prefer something more intimate. 🙂

Actually, the way my husband did it was perfect for us. He waited until I was really busy and not focused on him, he held my hand, and I felt something cold hit it. He had the ring half-way on my finger, looked at me, I shook my head yes, and he finished putting it on my finger. I was surprised, and it was a tender moment. We’re VERY low-key like that though. 🙂

  26. sweetheart says:

love is cheesy, that makes it sweet.

my proposal was different. were on his pool for night swimming, just two of us. It was a bit cold and I was shivering so my bf hugged me, we started to float around and were like dancing.he then whispered… honey, I want to marry you, would you like to be my wife? I was so surprised, I said yes and we both cry. were standing in the middle of the pool and my arms around his neck. no music,no ring. just the moonlight, water and crickets. we sealed it with a kiss.

  27. Sally-Sue says:

I loved it, the whole show that morning was great, JakeG added to the event by coming out earlier with an engagement ring to psych her out. He’s seems so lovely – he was still miked as they went to commercial break and you could hear him commenting to Regis about the impending medial procedure Regis was going to have after that days show, so genuine and caring, his momma and papa raised a lovely boy!

  28. clazzy says:

Nice, I guess! Not a fan of hers tho!

Especially, Please do not have her fill in as guest host EVER again. She is way too giggly and nervous. She made me mute it most of the show. Couldnt even hear Regis or guests with her constant giggling! Her boyfriend/ fiance looked much more quiet than her. I’d guess he’d have to be! She is a BIG MOUTHED train wreck in front of the camera! She is in great need of attention and just has to hear herself talk…that is the problem and same with her apearance on that game show (cant even watch that) and DWTS. She just speed talks and interrupts and nervously chatters! UGH! I hope the guy can stand her giggly loudness coz it is Not lady like or attractive at all! I hope she plays back the Regis show and sees & listens to her craziness!

  29. truetalk says:

    @sweetheart,that sounds so sweet!
