You may say “who?” and that’s understandable. What I’m doing here is combining two stories about minor celebrities posing in bikinis, since the photos were taken by the same photographer for People Magazine and are meant to promote their television shows.
Sarah Rue, 32, dropped over 50 pounds during her role as a spokesperson for Jenny Craig. (Note that calorie counting, much cheaper Weight Watchers and portion control work just as well as packaged diets.) We first saw Sarah’s weight loss back August of last year, and now she seems to have lost even more weight. She’s the host of Shedding for The Wedding on the CW and is losing weight for her own wedding. Rue is getting married in May. She also stars on an ABC family movie, My Future Boyfriend, that’s out on Sunday night. [Here’s a link to Sarah’s story on People.com]
Alison Sweeney, 34, didn’t lose as much weight as Rue but she went from a size four to a two and is really working that bikini. You might know Alison from her work as the host of The Biggest Loser. She’s also a cast member on daytime staple Days of Our Lives. She told People that she loses weight when she needs to by cutting “the crap out of my diet – cheese, dairy, carbs like bread and pasta and fatty meat.” Sweeney also credits The Biggest Loser with helping her make informed healthy choices daily. I don’t know much about Sweeney and don’t follow Biggest Loser, but I watch Days of Our Lives occasionally and she’s decent on that show. I once saw an interview with her when she was promoting her book The Mommy Diet. I was impressed with how down to earth and nice she seemed. [Here’s a link to Alison’s People article.]
These women look great and good for them. I’d love to see some men strip down to their skivvies and release shirtless swimming trunk photos in order to promote their projects, though. I know we see them on the covers of Men’s Fitness and Men’s Health but these gossip magazines are targeted to women and we get enough aspirational bodies in bikinis. We want some hot guys to droll over during our work day. I’ve noticed a very welcome trend of more men taking off their shirts on television, though. Is that really happening or am I just on the lookout for it now?

i think sara rue suited her weight before. i know she looks like a healthy weight now but i don’t know. it looks too thin on her for some reason.
Alison went from a 4 to a 2? That 4 must have been pretty recent because for a while she was quite heavy.

Alison lost a ton of weight years ago, maybe more than Sarah did. She looks like more than a four in the 2009 pictures maybe an 8? Sarah looks adorable either way. I love her dress in the before shots.

edit: I think Sara Rue may have gotten a tummy tuck to get rid of extra loose skin. My mom had one after her 3rd pregnancy and it looks similar. I’m not knocking it. Sara is gorgeous and she has a great rack!

I still have 5.1 to go to my 100 pounds a 30 to go to get to my goal – I don’t feel ready to do a bikini shoot. 🙂 You are right and it is important to know that you don’t have to be rich or break the bank. Counting calories, WW or making better choices will get the job done!
This Sarah Rue chick looked great before! And I love the color of her red hair! Mine is a slightly lighter shade from fading, I got lazy lately touching up the color. She looks a lot like me in her ‘before body’ and I dont consider myself fat or overweight! Im slightly rounder, but I think she looked very cute the way she did before the weight loss.

Going from 16 to a 10 or an 8 is great. Why does everyone always use size 4 as their go-to? I think most of them are full of it. I’m a 6 and smaller than a lot of these celebs.
P.S. I also think both of them looked great before.
Ali lost alot of weight over 10 years ago now and has kept it off. She pretty much has been a 4 since then and maybe bumped to 6-8 after she had her babies, but she knocked the weight right off after that. She’s a sweetheart!
I kind of love Alison because she seems like a very open, nonjudgemental person. She was Chad Allen’s beard back in the day, and one of the first people he told about his sexual orientation. On the biggest loser, she seems really patient with the contestants. I can’t watch that show too often because 1)I feel like it kills brain cells, 2) I can’t stand Jillian Michaels and Bob 3) I think it is really pretty dangerous for the contestants 4) All the grown men crying makes me cringe. But bless Alison’s heart for being able to do it every week with a smile.

It always amazes me that celebrities agree to show off their new “bikini bodies” (*barf*) in a magazine, only to have the photos obviously ‘shopped within an inch of their lives. Seriously, what’s the point??

Agreed with all the comments about size lying. Incidentally, Jennifer Garner has copped to being a size 8, size 6 “on a good day” and I love her for it. I can tell we’re the same size (she’s ever so much prettier and more fit than I) and I like using her Alias-era fitness as my workout inspiration photo. If she was all “I’m a size 2/4” I’d tend to say “F-it, I’m never gonna be that tiny. Where’s the brie?”

@Delta Juliet – that size 4 is bigger than the 7/8 I was in high school. I would also ask how tall are they. If Salma Hayek was more than a size inflated 2 she would look heavy.
Jennifer Garner looks tall she should be about a size inflated 6.
That first pic of Sara in a bikini has so much photo-shopping to its not funny. I can see it on her legs, abs and arms. why advertise about their weight loss and then p-shop the pic. Im sure they both looked fine without the p-shopping. Probably not as bikini friendly but still, if you’re going to talk about weight loss, at least use an honest picture of yourself.

Mr Aggravation and I habitually watch The Biggest Loser on Hulu – if only for mindless snark value. Last season, the Mr made a comment about how Ali looked similar to some of the “losers” on the show. I wasn’t having it – he got an earful that night!
Just last night, MrA hesitantly commented on how “nice” Ali looked. And I have to admit, even though I thought she looked fine before, she looks bangin’ now! Good for her – it feels awesome to feel fit.

The article on People talks about how Ali agreed to do the swimsuit shots because she was inspired by the contestants…and THEN she dropped to a size two as she got ready for the shots. She wasn’t photographed BECAUSE she went from a 4 to a 2.

I get tired of these celebrities exagerating/lying about their size. If you’re going to mention what size you typically wear you owe it to people to be honest. If you aren’t going to be honest about it don’t say anything at all. I remember reading an article about Mariska Hargitay a few years ago and she mentioned that she usually wears a size 8 or a size 10 which I believe. I thought her honesty (or at least what seemed to be honesty) was refreshing.
No bread and cheese? Eff it. I’m just gonna hang on to a few extra pounds. Thank god I’m not an actress. We dodged a bullet on that one ladies!

I agree with a lot of posts, a size 2 is really only ideal if you have are short and have a small bone structure. otherwise it is not really healthy looking. if you are taller, you can still look great at a size 8, even 10. It isnt about the number. its about your build.

But I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks celebrities are constantly lying about their size. I saw Alison’s picture and felt like such a b!tch because it’s the first thing I thought of. She looks great, no doubt about that but I don’t think she’s a two.
Just popped in to tell you all that I gave birth to my little boy Gabriel, today. Unfortunately, I will not be leaving the hospital in my size 2 pre-pregnancy jeans 😉

M’kay. Has anyone mentioned the fact that size changes depending on the brand that you’re buying? For instance, my wedding dress was a size 2 and had to be taken in. I’m 5 foot 7 in. But then I go to buy jeans and I’m wearing a 10. Like magic.
Only not really. Size doesn’t mean a damned thing. When you look fit, you look fit. When you don’t, you don’t. You can brag or lament all you want about a number but that number changes when you walk into a different store. Just sayin’. Some of the women I truly envied throughout my life wore bigger sizes than me. Their bodies were banging and they looked amazing. Some were taller than me, some were shorter. Some weighed more than I did, some weighed less. The numbers are just numbers.

i’m about 5’6 – 5’7, but i have a really REALLY small frame. beginning in my junior year of college, i started gaining weight. i didn’t put much thought into it because i was always able to lose weight easily. so i ended up gaining about 30 to 40 pounds for various reasons, 20 of which i’ve already lost, so about 20 more to go – wooo! anyways, my point is, even though i’m like 20 pounds overweight right now because of my small frame, i wear 6 or sometimes even a small. recently i was at a family get-together and my aunt asked me what size my skinny jeans were (cause she wanted to borrow them) and didn’t believe me when i told her it was a 6 – i had to show her the tag. it was annoying. another time, i went shopping with another aunt for a dress to wear to my cousin’s engagement party, and she kept getting me dresses that were about four to five sizes too big – they kept falling off of me – because she also didn’t believe that i’m a 6. so yeah, looks can be misleading…but nevertheless i’m sure there are celebs out there that exaggerate about their size, but some might be telling the truth

They do look great – but they’ve clearly been photoshopped to remove any and all traces of actual skin around their middles. Their arms too.

I agree with those who think Sara Rue looked amazing before. The extra weight made her features so soft. Don’t get me wrong, she is a beautiful woman and looks great now, too, but she is one of those women who can pull off the extra weight well.
@liv, I’m the same way. Same height and build, and I generally wear a size 6 (depending on the brand, a 4-8). I could stand to lose 10-15 lbs, at which point I would be about a size 2. I have a very small frame and so any extra weight, even 10 lbs, looks like more. I’m fairly muscular from doing karate and kobudo, but it’s not enough to change the look of my frame. I’m not overweight and have a normal BMI of around 20-21 (at 135 lbs), but I look like I weigh more simply because I have such a small build.
Allison isn’t fooling me about being a size 2 with those thighs. It is a poor reflection on Biggest Loser about not being truthful.
Famous women are not supposed to look healthy and normal. They are supposed to look like impossible, unattainable ideals of emaciated feminine beauty! So both of these ladies need to get back on the treadmill. They will know they have succeeded when they get the STAR Magazine cover that reads, “Friends fear for their lives! Shocking weight loss photos.” Then you know you’ve made it, baby.

I agree that these women are not being honest about their sizes. Rue and Sweeney look great, and rue is especially beautiful at whichever weight she choose.
But there’s no way that she’s a size 6. She looks a size ten because her hips and shoulders are extremely curvy. I am 5 ft 8 and 145 but I’m not nearly as curvy as she. Not being as curvy is the only reason I can get into a size 8.
If one researches size charts US, he or she will see they only factor for people as tall 5 ft 5. That goes for everyone and that’s why tall people who appear thin wind up wearing larger sizes.
When you encounter a “long” size, an extra inch may have been added to the garment.
In any case, she looks like she’s gotta weigh at least 150 in the commercials. This photo here has totally been photo shopped. Her hips and curves are way narrow. That’s why she always stands with her legs inward, it’s because of figure.
The August 2009 pic og Ali is 7 months after she had her last baby. She had been losing weight slowly and kicked it into high gear after that point. I am sure she is using pre pregnancy/long after this time numbers more. Also, if you watch the show her soap as I do–you’ll find that size 2 makes alot of sense. Sometimes I think she’s bigger but the truth is she has a very flat stomach and shockingly lean torso when you look at her from the side–ie she looks bigger from the front. Thin people who have seen her in person say she is teeny-tiny…and I have seen many celebrities in person and they are teeny…like size 0 looks big on them.
You guys are being very mean. Why can’t y’all be proud of the women for the weight they lost and see it as inspiration and not competition.
Whatever your size, it’s not a negative if someone wants to be smaller. It’s only you. If Alison wants to be a size 2 from a 4 or what ever. Why do you guy people have to be so cruel. I have been heavy all my life. I was 420 lbs and now I am 317.. I know I look good and feel great and my wife is 17 years younger than me. I want to be a size 36, in leather pants. Why? Because I want to. Not because it will get me in the club of small people. It’s my life, it’s my choice. If you don’t want to be that small, guess what, you don’t have to..No one cares but you and no one has to live with it but you..See how easy that is?
Good job to both women (And anyone) who lost any weight and feels good about themselves. I don’t see why people care so much. If you were in the public eye as much you would feel more pressure to be thin too. Remeber school picture days? Allison isn’t even close to a size 2. But why would she even want to be a size 2, or 4 for that matter? She has a naturally bigger build, yet she’s toned, curvy, and very feminine. Men love that Mae West look.
Sara Rue looks really good and really sexy. HOWEVER, I wonder if losing the weight and now looking like “everyone else” in Hollywood will cost her roles. If you want a sexy thin actress, there are a ton of them. If you wanted someone that looked a little more like a real woman, Sara Rue was ranked high on a much smaller list. We’ll have to see.
