Rose Byrne in hot pink, with bangs trauma: cute or tragic?

I’ve liked Rose Byrne for a while now – I was a big fan of the first seasons of Damages, and I think Rose is so awesome for showing off her (incredible) comedic chops in stuff like Get Him to the Greek, and the soon-to-be-released Bridesmaids. She could have just stuck with dramatic roles, you know? But she’s showing everybody that she doesn’t have to choose. So for that, I love her. I also kind of love this hot pink mess of a dress. It’s by Prabal Gurung, and very few women could pull it off. Rose can! Now, what I don‘t love: the new bangs trauma. Why in God’s name did she do this herself? She looked beautiful without the bangs trauma, as this handy photo of Rose standing in front of the bangs-trauma-less Bridesmaids poster can attest:

I know some bangs (trauma) lovers will yell at me and say she looks fine. But if you’re going to do bangs trauma, do they really have to be so friggin’ long? These are too long, too thick, and the little “extra” pieces (traumatic additions) are just bad.

Here are pics of Kristin Wiig and Maya Rudolph at the same premiere. Maya looks so cute! I had totally forgotten that she was pregnant. This is her… second? THIRD… with writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson…? Probably. And Kristin looks cute too, although the dress and the styling kind of falls short. She could have looked a lot better – she has the raw material, she just needs some help putting it all together.

Kristin Wiig and Maya Rudolph — Fucking love them

  2. the original bellaluna says:

How about “fug”? That dress is clashing like a mo-fo with all the other pinky/fuscia stuff going on at the premiere. And don’t even get me started on the hair…

When I was a kid, when my bangs got that long, Mom pulled my arse into the kitchen or the car (to the salon) and made sure those feckers were cut.

If you’re going to have bangs, it’s stupid not to be able to see. Sort of defeats the purpose of bangs, right? Just leave your hair long and pull it back or pin it or do your thing. This atrocious-bangs trend is one OF MANY to which I will not be a slave.

    @ Kaiser – I believe this is Maya’s 3rd trip on the baby-go-round.

  3. Ann says:

All three look fantastic. Can’t wait to see the movie!

  4. OtherChris says:

They all look pretty good. I really love the first dress, although the top is a little different.

PS: Celebitchy, you are my morning coffee!

  5. wenderwoman says:

Congrats to her. She looks so happy.

  6. searching4grace says:

I love the first dress. The cut, the color. They’re awesome. The second lady is cute as a button. Kristin Wiig…I love the dress until about..her thighs. Everything from thigh length down is just…awful. I don’t like the bottom of the dress. The shoes made me cringe. Ugh. I’m naturally very tall anyway, so I don’t feel the crazy urge to wear stiletto’s with platform height on the bottom of the base of the shoe. Those are awful.

  7. Zoya says:

She always looks depressed and tired in pictures. I thought she looked beautiful in Troy, so fresh faced and feminine. but then she went the regular Hollywood rout and starved herself into the size 0 she is today. blah.

  8. Zoya says:

Also I really hate the platform pumps Wiig is sporting. I know they’re all the rage because they give you extra height but they make womens feet look like hoofs.

  9. Nanea says:

    Another vote for shoe trauma.

Black shoes that are white inside, with a red platform that’s clashing with the carpet?

    And Wiig’s ugly platforms!

  10. Louise says:

    Tragic? No. Ugly? Yes.

  11. CallieTrichid says:

The Aniston is strong in Wiig.

  12. stephanie says:

that is NOT a cute pregnancy dress. love byrne, think she’s gorgeous, but the bangs are bad.

  13. Isa says:

I love the dress! So different, but I hate the clutch and the shoes. I’m all for contrasting your accessories but I don’t like them to actually clash.

I am apparently the only one, but I don’t mind the shoes with the platform at the bottom. Unless it’s really thick like the shoes Posh wore to the wedding. I find them easier to walk in since your toes are brought up a little higher to meet heel.

And I don’t mind bangs, as long as they’re not greasy!

  14. abbizmal says:

I hate those shoes, too. Finally, glad to see someone else hating them, thought I was the only one. They are getting higher and higher. Ugh. I prefer flats and my feet have been feeling good for years. When I wore heels long ago, my feet would hurt even after taking them off–can’t imagine how these would hurt.

  15. GQ says:

Rose looks amazing. Love her and this dress too

  16. kayls says:

I can’t think of one single person who actually improved their looks with bangs.

  17. Scarlet Vixen says:

The bangs make her look like Jennifer Beals.

I am a grown woman and I have bangs–I’ll admit it. Everytime I read a thread dissing bangs it makes me totally insecure. LoL But I totally rock ’em. I have a few reasons tho: I had a baby recently and now have a few (temporary) thin spots (thanks hormones!). I also have one eyebrow that’s a little droopier than the other, so the side bang kinda cammouflages that. 🙂

  18. sasa says:

    @kayls
I’m thinking Christina Ricci, Mena Suvari, Selma Blair…

  19. Kat says:

Love Rose, love the dress. Little confused about her purse color choice, though? Red with a pink dress?

  20. Becky says:

I’m in the middle when it comes to bangs on adult women. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. I’m not a fan of Rose Byrne’s new bangs-too long and too heavy. I think bangs work best on women with high foreheads (for example-Helen Hunt looks much better with bangs) or when they can be brushed to the side (like Reese Witherspoon’s bangs).

  21. Isa says:

Scarlett Vixen-I like bangs on some people! Especially side swept bangs!

kayls- Anyone with a fivehead! Tyra Banks for instance.

  22. Pia says:

It needs to be hemmed immediately. That is the worst length.

  23. erika rain says:

Not wild about the dress, but the bangs are fine.

I don’t understand the “bangs trauma” thing on this site. Seriously, some women look good in bangs and some don’t – but every time a celebrity has bangs, y’all call it “bangs trauma.” Why?

  24. Newbie says:

I don’t mind the bangs. I like them, actually. And I like Byrnes’s dress. But the dress on the pregnant lady? Woof. It looks awful and I can think of a million different things that would have looked better.

  25. Carragh says:

I think her fringe looks really pretty on her, but as I have pretty much the same cut, I gotta say that 😛 I wear mine at around that length too.

  26. k says:

The dress is very 60s and so is the hair. I like both.

It is hard to keep your bangs that length; totally impractical. I always want to trim them just a scooch.
