Kimora Lee Simmons: I feel sexy no matter what my size

essence luncheon 2 250211
Kimora Lee Simmons lost 30 pounds recently, and she did it gradually and didn’t run out and diet her butt off right after the birth of her son, Kenzo, in May, 2009. Kimora did a bikini photo shoot with OK! and gave some vague quotes about how she lost weight by cutting out junk food, doing some cardio every day and running after her son. (Don’t they always say that?) I bet she worked a lot harder than she’s letting on, but I like how she says she felt just as sexy when she weighed a little more, and how she didn’t stress out over it. This is a woman who has zero issues with self esteem. Why should she? She landed Djimon Hounsou, the lucky bitch. She also says she’s a size 6 now, and unlike Kirstie Alley I believe her.

You look amazing! Have you reached your goal?
I don’t know if I ever had a goal. I was just trying to lose some of the baby weight I’d gained when I was pregnant. Kenzo was a year old and I was thinking about getting my life back. Now the baby is almost 2, and I’ve lost about 30 pounds since last fall.

Does it bother you to see photos from when you were heavier?
Well, I’d just had a baby! I’m not bothered about it. I don’t live my life with that pressure. I’m a mother, a wife, a businesswoman. I’m not an actress, so I don’t have that life where I have to be on stage. I have the TV show, I’m into production and I develop businesses. I don’t feel like I have to be a size 2. I’m beautiful. When I was pregnant, I was probably like a 10 1/2, but I don’t really know. That would be a guess, and now I’m more like a size 6. But I always feel sexy.

If I’m pregnant, I feel like I’m bringing a life into this world and I feel like that’s beautiful as well. Now I’m thinner and that’s a different kind of sexy – but it’s always sexy.

What is your diet-and-exercise routine?
I do very easy things. Running after a 1-year-old really will do it, and I have three kids. I do a little cardio every day, and it doesn’t have to be on a machine. I sometimes take a walk. I try to do it for a minimum of 30 minutes a day. I stopped eating junk food, like chips and candy. It’s about timing, portion control and eating healthy foods that fill you up.

What was the hardest part of losing weight?
Not eating all the great things I love, as if we had really broken up! And even now, I’ll have a little bread. I am not neurotic about it. I don’t do things that I can’t maintain as party of a normal lifestyle… It’s all about moderation and making substitutions. For example, I have cut back on my dairy and I don’t eat so much fattening red meat.

[From OK! Magazine, print edition, May 23, 2011]

Again, I’m not buying the “it was easy” line. It sounds like she really did change her diet around completely, and that’s hard work in itself. Still, I like her message that she felt sexy after she had a baby. She even said that most magazines are “fantasy” and that “we fix it or we airbrush it, and we have have a makeup team… I just don’t want the kids to think that we woke up like that. We have teams of people – hair, wardrobe and stylists.” That didn’t stop her from posing completely made up in three different bikinis with heels and getting her own photos airbrushed for OK! It’s not like she’s doing a Jamie Lee Curtis and posing in harsh lighting without makeup or Photoshop. Remember when her head was pasted onto another model’s body for her perfume ad? You know she signed off on that.

I love my body, I love my size… and then they go on diet. Look at Kimora, Raven,JHud… hypocrites.

  2. aenflex says:

If she allowed her head to be pasted on another models body, presumanbly someone smaller, than I think she certainly does have some self esteem issues. I used to watch her show and she was always freaking out about her weight and hair and size and this and that.

  3. Sue says:

IT wasn’t easy for her If you watch her show you would see that she had a really hard time sticking to a diet, eating healthy and not over eating when she stress so I don’t see why she would lye now and make it seem like it was easy for her to do.

  4. EdithP says:

If you ever watched her show, back before she was with Djimon and even thinking about being pregnant, she was trying to lose weight and was very stressed about it. I don’t know, maybe getting laid on a regular basis helps (can’t hurt!).

  5. Hautie says:

Honestly I thought she had lost more weight. Closer to 50 pounds.

Kimora had gotten really heavy there for a year or so.

But she has always wore cute clothes no matter what she weighs. I can recall back when she did professionally model and I bet she didn’t weigh 115 pounds. At 6ft tall.

  6. lucy2 says:

She looks good now and at least is saying the right things – whether she believes them or not who knows.

  7. MeriJaan says:

She still has that puffy neck problem! Skinny or not, I find her annoying as hell.

Her kids are very bratty too. Especially the younger one!

  8. Genevieve says:

Shes hot, together they are adorable. She looks pretty at any size

  9. alma says:

grrr!!! i hate her! i wish i could be as confident and have what she has! **munching away on cookies**

  10. Hanh says:

You can still feel confident about your size and lose weight. It looks like she was just getting healthier but excercising more and eating better foods. And the weight loss was a bonus to that. She’s not a stick thin size 00 and looks healthy and toned.

  11. Joan says:

Ugh, she’s so homely! It’s nice for her that she’s able to be so confident despite her looks. And although she always has a sloppy look, she’s got bucks to create a nicer illusion of, um… class.

  12. DGO says:

She needs to have her thyroid checked. Seriously, every time I see those folds on her neck I think “Hashimoto’s syndrome”.

  13. Amanda says:

Kimora is trying to re-do her public image. I saw her on the Nate Berkus show recently and she was allll about distancing herself from the over-top, ostentatious, and gaudy image she had previously created for herself.

She was helping women try on figure flattering clothes that were not budget-busting. It was funny because Kimora seems like the last person in the world that would care about a budget or buying cheap accessories, but thats exactly what she was telling these ladies to do. And then it was kind of sad because the ladies who got the makeovers would come out, still looking kinda short and dumpy, and they had to stand next to Kimora- who is 6 feet tall and thin and has long hair and is beautiful (obnoxious, but beautiful). So, I kinda felt like Kimora wasn’t the best person to be doing makeovers on middle aged dumpy women. I got depressed watching it.

  14. really says:

She landed Djimon Hounsou ….. all that dark chocolate! Kimora’s attitude is what keeps her skinny, she is so funny. HUMOUR is key!

  15. Deb says:

She looks good in the photos where she’s wearing the olive green dress and jacket. Funny you should mention Kirstie. Kimora looks smaller than Kirstie in her “before” photo.

  16. beth says:

damn, she just the hottest hunks.

  17. Brandy says:

She’s such a vile, narcissistic, raving bitch of woman. I tried to watch her show a time or two and was thoroughly disgusted. She may have money, but she has zero class. Watching her berate and humiliate friends and employees alike turned my stomach, as did her constant self-congratulation. Nice to know that she’s raising two daughters up to be just like her. Her new husband seems like a nice guy, but must be a glutton for punishment. Still, I can’t imagine him (or any man, for that matter) being able to tolerate this nasty piece of work for very long.

  18. honeyv says:

@DGO that’s what i think every time i see those lines on somebody’s neck. maybe she took some medicine for her thyroid and that’s why she lost that much weight plus dieting and working out and other bla bla’s.. But she looks great, she’s pretty when you see her on her show, in photos she looks weird and she’s always caught on camera when she makes faces!

I wish more people would write sites like this that are actually interesting to read. With all the garbage floating around on the net, it is rare to read a site like yours instead.
