Lady Gaga: “Amy Winehouse didn’t need to learn any lessons”

fp_7677976_gaga_lady_aar_21_29

These are photos of Lady Gaga outside of the ABC studio of The View, where she was a guest panelist yesterday. She spent the whole hour with the ladies, which sounds pretty interesting. I’m trying not to give in to watching The View on any kind of regular basis, but if they continue to invite Lady Gaga on as the cokehead-version of Elisabeth Hasselbeck, I might have to start watching this junk. Anyway, the big news out of Gaga’s sit-down were her on-going thoughts on Amy Winehouse. She talked about Amy last week too, when she made Amy’s death all about GAGA. Guess what she did on The View? Yep. Gaga told the ladies that after Amy’s death:

“I am just so devastated and so sad and I really could not speak for 48 hours straight I was in such shock. I think the most unfortunate thing about it all is the way that the media spins things, like we can learn from Amy’s death. I don’t feel that Amy needed to learn any lessons. I felt that the lesson was for the world to be kinder to the superstar. Everybody was so hard on her, and everything that I knew about her was that she was the most lovely and nice and kind woman. You know, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t enjoy listening to someone sing sad songs about the blues and heartbreak and then not expect them to be truly heartbroken.”

Wait, what? Amy didn’t need to learn any lessons? We just needed to be nice to her and that would have made everything better? Ah, no. Amy was an alcoholic and addict who self-destructed over the course of years. She really could have used some lessons, but unfortunately for her, for us, for her family and her fans, she was never forced into a situation where she was anything but coddled, ignored or encouraged. But of course, Gaga isn’t really talking about Amy there. She’s talking about how she wants to be treated, and how no one is supposed to call her out on her drug and alcohol abuse. I swear, the part of the interview where Gaga talks about her drug use, it sounds like it’s coming from a Lohan:

Cokehead, please. STFU.

Here’s Gaga’s View performance of “You & I”. Um… this is the first time I’ve ever heard the song. Elton John much?

    Houndstooth mess -__-

  2. locamochagirl says:

You guys are such Gaga haters on this site! She’s weird, for sure – but you can’t deny her talent. She may be manufactured in terms of her appearance and weird outfits and weird persona, but you can’t tell me her voice is manufactured a la Britney and Katy Perry. I think we CAN appreciate her music.

  3. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I totally understand what Lady Gaga is saying about Amy Winehouse. People really went after her in a such way that was unfortunate and I don’t think anyone truly wanted to know why Amy numbed herself with drugs, just wanted to pick on her for the stupid things she did instead of wanting to understand why.

I am totally bummed I missed Gaga on The View, how awesome is that Gaga stayed the whole hour? Most superstars don’t do that. Loves her.

Love that she wore Houndstooth for The View appearance. Very appropriate for those type of ladies I think…esp Barbabra.

Hmmmmmmm Lady Gaga sounds like LL…no didn’t hear it. I mean if LL did sound anything like Gaga wouldn’t she be acting again and be an international celebrity who people adore? I do enjoy the forced comparisons though.

  4. Katie says:

This outfit is so…normal. Granted, none of us would be going out in head-to-toe houndstooth, but she could’ve showed up in like, a necklace made of chicken heads or something. I’d like to see more of this kooky pseudo-normal stuff on Gaga, it’s different, but more flattering than her no-pants trauma.

Also, I just never listen to any of her interviews or anything where she speaks. That voice makes me upset.

Also also, what the eff is on her leg? I really hope that was temporary to “match” her outfit…

  5. Eleonor says:

I don’t deny her talent, she’s got voice, she is great when she sings only with piano, but she is sounding stupid. And she hasn’t said a word about her fans bullying Adele on twitter.

  6. Cherry says:

@locamochagirl: I don’t think anybody on this site really denies Gaga’s talent. See for example
    http://www.celebitchy.com/169643/lady_gaga_does_acoustic_on_howard_stern_amazing_or_expected_/
Personally, I think Gaga is an amazing artist. But that doesn’t mean we cannot point it out when she talks total crap. I mean, ‘I felt that the lesson was for the world to be kinder to the superstar.’ Oh, Gaga. Go paint some bats on your leg already.

  7. Waldemar says:

God. First A. McQueen and now Amy Winehouse. She really can’t leave the dead alone and show some RESPECT. Everything has to be about her. She didn’t even know Amy personally, but couldn’t speak for 48 hours after hearing about her death?!? And NOW she can’t stop talking about it. Idiotic attention seeking drama queen.

  8. H. Girlie says:

Uh, yeah we can tell you her voice is manufactured a la Britney and Katy Perry. YOU can appreciate her “music” but hell, you can get that at a karaoke bar. Please…those with actual talent don’t need to hide behind all the schtick that she does. I’m sorry that was harsh, I’m guessing you’re 12?

  9. Addie says:

She has NO IDEA what was going on with Amy, but she chooses to tell anyone who will listen what she thinks it was, making it sound like the gospel truth.

She needs to STFU and let those who were close to Amy Winehouse give interveiws on this matter..when they are ready.

  10. Pyewacket says:

H Girlie- You don’t have to be so insulting to someone expressing their opinion.

  11. The Truth Fairy says:

    SHUT THE F*%K UP GAGA!!!!

  12. curleque says:

She is ignorant. Just because she is a multi-talented performer does not mean she knows jack about anything else other than singing, songwriting, and wearing downright ugly outfits/wigs/makeup that only detract from her talents. She is hiding behind her persona so she can continue her own self-obsession, narcissism, and self-esteem issues, which she has successfully parlayed into her own addiction issues. Yet, like any true coke-head, what happened to Amy cannot possibly happen to her… Please… just SHUT UP!

  13. whatabitch says:

The whole reason I discovered and started regularly reading celebitchy was because I was so sick of other sites (ESPECIALLY PEREZ) being so far up her ass! I don’t hate Gaga but she can be pretty dumb at times and as mentioned above she tends to talk crap, I love it when you guys call her out.

  14. Louisa says:

To think that people here were jumping down on Kelly Osborne’s throat because she was being an ‘attention-seeker’ on Amy’s funeral. Well she wasn’t but Lady Gaga here definitely is!

Also can someone please tell me why people don’t like Elizabeth Hasselbeck? I don’t watch The View but I remember her in Survivor for being such a sweetheart… did she change a lot after that?

  15. Liz says:

@locamochagirl – right on the mark

  16. lucy2 says:

I do think she’s a decent singer, but wish she would shut up otherwise. She’s so attention hungry, it’s gross.

  17. Boo says:

I run hot and cold on Gaga, but this Amy Winehouse crap of hers puts me firmly in the Bitch Please camp.

  18. aenflex says:

emotionally, she’s a child. maybe she was ignored severely? making her help sleep in the bed w/ her, all this cooky shit about amy winehouse, and just the fact that she is cooky. she needs to tackle some of her issues.

  19. RHONYC says:

    Houndstooth Fever for Everybody!!! 😆

  20. Riana says:

    Ugh.

Gaga goes firmly in the camp of celebs who should really shut up and stick with what they’re good at. For while she thinks she sounds so intelligent and deep she’s really putting her stupidity on full blast.

Her suggestion for a serious addict isn’t to have any lessons learned but to coddle and cuddle and love them till they quit? Moron. I also wish she wouldn’t pretend to be such a drug user, spending Daddy’s money on a few lines of coke does NOT put you in Winehouse territory Gaga. You sound like a sorority girl seriously discussing the ills of Bud Light and how it almost led her down a dark road.

I also LMAO at her calling Tim Gunn a bulky for his comments but keeping her lips tightly zipped about her own little monsters. What a fake, thank goodness her music sucks now. I’d hate to be a fan.

  21. Jana says:

Shut up, Gaga, please. Half the time you make no sense.

  22. Bill Hicks is God says:

“You can’t enjoy listening to someone sing sad songs about the blues and heartbreak and then not expect them to be truly heartbroken.”

I agree and think that’s the smartest thing GaGs has said for the most part. Last I heard though, Mensa membership isn’t a requirement for a performer.

I enjoy her and I love the outfit.

  23. shiba says:

Is that the houndstooth pattern repeated down her leg – or a W (for Winehouse?)?

  24. REALIST says:

Hey, maybe what LG said was off, but her heart was in the right place. The world was particularly cruel to Amy-no hard evidence, but she was a self-mutilator as a teen likely had a major mental illness-not treated, obviously.
I noticed the minute Amy peaked after the Grammy everyone was looking for signs of relapse. (If you listened to “Back to Black” at all, you know she had a past). And the “I told you so” folks got they wanted-and more.
The world, in general, is a cruel place, especially if you are a vulnerable person as Amy was.
    PS: Loooove houndstooth!

  25. Sigh. says:

Sadly, one lesson Amy apparently never learned was to love and take better care of herself, so…

And for every person that was mean to the “superstar,” there were twice as many wanting her to get it together and move forward. She had 5(?) Grammys and still was sought after by associates and concert-goers to prove it, but that clearly wasn’t enough. Can’t blame everyone/society/media/”them” for one person’s addictions and PERSONAL demons…

I agree with whoever pointed out that it’s interesting that she took the time to come down on “the media (whom she *obviously* courts by being constantly dressed like an explosion at a makeup/costume factory),” but did not make the time to address her OWN fans or the situation with their treatment of Adele only days ago.

She’s talented, but with me it’s all cancelled out by the endless Cirque De Soleil street costumes for today’s busy goth clown on the go and the over-stepping of her bounds/intelligence/true cultural impact.

  26. Goofpuff says:

The more time passes where she doesn’t tell her fans to back off Adele, the more I believe she totally supports the bullying which makes all her messages about getting along total crap.

  27. The Original Ashley says:

Waldemar – I took it as her projecting herself on to Amy, like “damn if I don’t stop snorting coke I could end up like her”. Also her line to “protect the superstar” (ugh) was more like if I ever fuck up in the future I want them to know they shouldn’t make fun of me.

And I didn’t know Amy personally but I did feel a sense of great loss when she died. For some reason it hit me really hard and I know I was kind of off for a few days. I still get little hits of sadness when she’s mentioned.

    H. Girlie – Look up “Gaga BBC Sessions” on youtube and tell me can Katy Perry sing like that? No. She has talent, but it is a shame that she hides it behind computer generated mess just so her songs can be gay club anthems.

  28. The Original Ashley says:

Goofpuff – Either she dislikes Adele and totally supports their bullying of her, or she doesn’t want to upset them by telling them what asses they are for picking on her. Maybe she’s afraid she’ll lose a few if she chastises them for it? And she’ll ruin her image as Mother Gaga, anti celebrity who loves and feeds her “monsters” (stupid nickname). My guess is it’s a bit of both, she dislikes Adele and why lose a few fans for someone you don’t care for any way?

  29. samab says:

Ok now I really cannot stand anymore lady gugu here .She’s so fu*king full of herself she might explode.I hate this egotic fool. And I still think she has a voice but simply now STFU .

  30. Riana says:

    @29 – The Original Ashley

If she scolds her little monsters they may stop buying/worshipping her and that would hurt the checkbook.

I also think she doesn’t care. The sudden death of Amy Winehouse gave her an opportunity for her fame whore colors to fly. She can say how she was unable to speak, and cried, and felt she wasnt alone…blah blah blah because it’ll get her even more attention and paint her as the poor suffering artist tormented by anothers death.

Whereas mentioning Adele will be admitting her own inadequacy and that things aren’t as equal and enlightened in Gaga land with the little monsters as she likes to pretend it is. The scene where they showed the bald woman on the view who was kicked out for the bikini where Gaga said ‘I want her number’ just really reinforced when it’s good for her image Gaga is all about the kooky and disenfranchised.

  31. gee says:

She is such an attention whore. I don’t care if she sings well anymore, she’s annoying as fuuuuuuuuu

  32. MourningTheDeathofMusic says:

I’m in agreement that Gaga really needs to simply stop talking about Amy Winehouse. If Gaga is asked about her thoughts on Amy’s death, keep the answers brief and only on the topic of Amy – nothing more.

  33. lilred says:

She was also a guest judge on SYTCD and i had to fast forward(we dvr) through every time she spoke her voice and crazy talk annoyed the hell out of me…

  34. jover says:

locamochagirl no one on this site among the innumberable that comment on, and have some knowledge of music and gaggles real background (not the pr stuff)is hating on her they are expressing their opinion she’s manufactured look at her senior yr. pic from sacred heart totally normal – everything is schtick to sell her product – sign on riana, curleque, aenflex and I’m also wondering whether she is both emotionally and intellectually childish (read her V piece; total blather as everyone on this site pointed out) i’d love to see her interviewed by a real musician art/music critic where she didn’t have time to prerehearse any answers or have her pr team work the interviewer just speak off the cuff – she has modest talent by today’s pop standards, is a mediocre narcissist, but really isn’t all that bright or educated even in art except maybe to soccer moms wanting to feel dangerous and tweens; btw didn’t also laurie anderson do a lot of this stuff years ago (and much better) haven’t heard her referenced though.

  35. 4Real says:

Yeah whatever CACA…why would anybody care what a coke fiend has to say anyway…just stfu and sing!

  36. Ari says:

She has some really fat fingers for such a skinny gal

  37. Cleo says:

    They look related.

  38. Kim says:

What a cop out! The media needed to be nice to Amy. The media wasnt shooting heroin up her veins! Addicts need to take responsibility for their addictions and stop blaming outsiders.

Gaga is a role model and she could have used this to say dont do drugs BUT since she is a drug addict herself of course she uses an excuse instead. When is she going to go away? Her shctick is so overdone.

  39. faye says:

Didn’t need to learn nay lessons? Jesus what an idiot.

  40. UKHels says:

yah Gaga knows all this NEVER HAVING MET AMY WINEHOUSE

the vultures sure come out when they know they can get their tedious faces even more airtime

  41. Meg says:

‘She really could have used some lessons, but unfortunately for her, for us, for her family and her fans, she was never forced into a situation where she was anything but coddled, ignored or encouraged.’
you should have stopped at ‘unfortunately for her’ because that’s who you get sober for: yourself. no one can make you even if they do drag you to rehab. she didn’t see an alternative that was as satisfying as getting high. the media, especially in the UK are horrible to celebrities. we all say Kate Middleton is too thin, but if she had curves we’d all say ‘oh she’ gotten chubby’ celebs just can’t win. no wonder so many of them have crazy lives, the media sees their lives as entertainment for us, as opposed to their work being the only entertainment

  42. fizXgirl314 says:

fugface not speaking for 2 days is probably the best thing that came out of Amy Whinehouse’s death… fugface here really shouldn’t compare herself to someone who had real quirk, real talent and real soul and didn’t just adopt a fake persona for attention… EW!

  43. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

uhh.. You do.. Get an original idea girl. You are copying too much!

  44. Paula Berry says:

Idk kaiser, I have to disagree w/ u on this one.
I see gagas point being that b4 Amy was famous she was not an addict. She was healthy and not a drug user. Amy had been to rehab at least 4 times. May was her last stint. Obviously I think it’s tragic and beyond sad. It’s like Mary j can’t make a fabulous album when she’s happy, she needs to be depressed and angry toale good music. Gagas right, how can you write a song like back to black and not have lived threw and expieranced a black moment? I love gaga. She’s an amazing performer and yes she does do somethings that are alittle crazy, but I’d take a million artists like gaga then a Rihanna or Katy Perry anyday! Music is art and I wish more artist had the creative ability gaga has. I own a salon in la jolla ca and the day after gaga performed the infamous MTV music awards w/ the blood and the hanging. Our clients were like what? I don’t get it, and I was all ladies it was brilliant!!! I do have to say that I normally love ur posts! And I love the site!

  45. DethHammer says:

@Riana– EXACTLY. She is only anti-bullying when it helps her image, which as @Jover aptly points out, mostly panders to teens and soccer mom types wanting to feel “dangerous”. Gaga is a smart, calculating narcissist and she times everything so that it benefits her massive marketing machine.

Gaga never met Amy but yet she feels the need to continuously pontificate about Amy and how it’s the public’s fault for “killing the superstar”. WTF, MANY people (of the unwashed masses that Gaga maligns) wanted Amy to get better and wished her nothing but health and happiness.

  46. DethHammer says:

OMG boohoo, the public (who helps pay these celebutards’ salaries and who keeps them in the spotlight that they crave) is sooooo evil!! So Peacher Gaga says if we all worship at the altar of Pop Cult-ure and have nothing but praise for anything a superstar does (no matter how unhealthy or self-destructive), we will cure cancer and sickness and death!

Gaga IS talented; she can sing well (at least half of the time; I have seen live perfomances where her voice was weak and she talked-sang) and she can play piano well (although she often uses a backing track and has a keyboard player in her backing band). And I really like her houndstooth outfit here; I wish she would wear more stylish and whimsical stuff like this.

HOWEVER, she still only CO-WRITES most of her songs (read the liner notes to the songs, people!) and her parents are corporate telecom bigwigs who gave her all the right connections to speed up the ladder to stardom. Gaga’s mother was friends with Madonna’s former manager for cryin’ out loud! And Gaga’s manager Troy Carter works with Madonna’s current manager!

  47. Ames says:

I think, maybe, she meant Amy didn’t need to learn any lesson because she (Amy) already know what she was doing to herself and ultimately how it would be the death of her.

I went through a time where I damn near self destructed. I didn’t need anyone or anything to tell me what was going on…I was aware. BUT, nothing changed until I was willing to change. Now, I can look back and be the wiser. But had death taken me back then, I would have just thought yep, I knew it was gonna happen and it was a matter of time. Amy wasn’t willing to change throughout her numerous rehab/interventions. And that’s how it is with some people. You can’t help those that don’t want to be help.

  48. Alison E says:

Oh, Gaga. I used to love you so much when I thought you kind of knew perfectly well what was going on and you went home at night and wore big old coke bottle glasses and a comfortable sweater and laughed at how hee hee, you had ALL THE MONEY, but now I think you’re believing all the hype about yourself and it makes me sad.

  49. Venefica Delirium says:

Shallow emotions, another feature of Histrionic Personality Disorder.

Second of all, I’m really sick of people forcing their opinions about Gaga’s (TM) “talent” down everyone else’s throat. I’ve heard what I consider talent. Quit trying to insult everyone else’s knowledge of music by assuming that nobody has heard her sing live or don’t know what talent is.

Just because she can play the piano and project her voice doesn’t make her god’s gift to music. It really disgusts me how people are pressuring others to agree with her “talent”. I’ll deny whatever the hell I want, because I’m not impressed, regardless of how many Youtube links you post on here. Just because she can play the piano, like millions of other people can, and barely sing doesn’t mean she discovered the cure for cancer.

If she was that great she didn’t have to rely on so much to make her famous.

This is exactly why I can’t stand Aguilera too, her exaggerated talent and worth as a musician. Gaga (TM) panders to singing pop music because it’s comfortable. Gaga (TM) panders to singing pop music so that she can feel superior by knowing how to play the piano and having a college education.

But guess what? When Gaga (TM) inevitably cracks, there won’t be a comeback, because frankly, she isn’t likeable enough to gain the support that Britney Spears or even Amy Winehouse (even though it sadly didn’t work) had.

Gaga’s (TM) “Little Monsters” are cult-like and unaccepting of other people’s opinions.

  50. Kosmos says:

She just loves to hear herself talk, that’s it. The subject is not important, but whatever is up for everyone is something she can capitalize on.

  51. DethHammer says:

Ok I watched the performance vid, and around 4:48 she is standing away from the piano, has the mic in one hand with the other hand on her hip and she’s facing the audience, and the piano music is STILL playing! It’s obvious she’s using a recorded backing piano track. It’s really obvious around 4:54 where she is three feet away from the keys and yet the piano music is still playing. It’s just like the Jimmy Kimmel performance last Friday; on Kimmel, she waved her arms above her head and danced on top of the piano and yet piano music was still playing while she did that.

  52. Amanda G says:

Wow, you guys are so hard on her. Okay, the “I didn’t speak for 48 hours” bit was dramatic, but I don’t see much else wrong with what she said. It’s her opinion and she was directly asked about Amy, therefore she made a comment. She looks quite pretty there too. And You and I is my favorite song from the album!

  53. foozy says:

never been into gaga but sorry, i think i agree with her on this one

  54. DethHammer says:

@Venefica Delirium, Gaga (TM) dropped out of college so she doesn’t have a college degree. Also, she often uses a backing recorded piano track so she is not playing completely live; you can really hear and see it in the View performance vid here around 4:48.

  55. Venefica Delirium says:

@DethHammer: Thank you for pointing that out actually. All I really knew was that Gaga went to NYU at one point and everyone started fawning over how brilliant she is due to the fact.

To be honest, she’s manipulative and calculating, but I don’t ever recall her saying anything that’s really thought-provoking or interesting. Basically, and in my opinion, she’s only “intelligent” at others’ expense.

I love that you’ve pointed that piano bit. While people are entitled to enjoy her music, I get very irritated when people try to force their opinions onto non-fans about her talent. Hasn’t she been caught lip synching several times now? All the performances I’ve heard that aren’t lip synched sounds like a mess…

Her “Little Monsters” think that because she managed to co-write a few songs and “can sing” half of the time that she’s the second coming of Christ to music. Move over Mozart, she can play the piano (or wants people to think she can, anyway)! The savant pop tart routine lost its charm a long time ago.

Anyway, I really do enjoy your posts DethHammer. I learn something interesting from them everyday I’m logged on here.

Moreover, I have a feeling- oh, just a gut feeling- that Gaga’s jumping on the posthumous fan bandwagon. Then again, I also believe that she fits so perfectly the textbook profile of someone with Histrionic Personality Disorder.

I do believe that Gaga mocked Amy Winehouse until the day Winehouse died. She bleached her hair blonde because she looked so much like Amy Winehouse people got her confused with her? I’m calling bullshit. I’ve seen her before her “transformation”. The resemblance was there, but slightly, definitely not enough to actually confuse her with Winehouse. I think that even though Amy Winehouse cleaned up very nice, because of Winehouse’s reputation, Gaga probably took offense to the comparison.

  56. The good thing about this is if a child does get into it, it wont kill them or give them horrible side effects like most medications do.
