Glee’s Dianna Agron explains nose job: I got punched in the nose twice

r vanity fair party 8 280211
Glee’s Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray) was on The Late Show last night. I have to say I found her more confident than I expected. I’ve never seen her interviewed before and prior to this my impression was that she’s a little geeky and different. Her red carpet fashion is usually conservative and not that fashionable. Plus she penned a long impressive blog entry defending that racy GQ photoshoot with her Glee costars by explaining that she was a “sheltered child” and that “if you asked me for my dream photo shoot, I’d be in a treehouse, in a wild costume, war-paint and I’d be playing with my pet dragon.” So I thought she would be a little shy, since she seems to be a thoughtful person and not your typical starlet, but she wasn’t. She was completely at ease talking to Dave. (You can watch part of the video here if you’re in the US.)

On the Late Show, Agron told a story about how her nose was broken twice. It was implied that she was explaining her nose job since she said she had a deviated septum fixed and that a doctor told her she was a mouth breather. The words “nose job” or “rhinoplasty” were not uttered though:

My Freshman year of high school… I convinced my mom to let me go to my first party. I was able to be there for an hour… instead of the girl punching the guy she wound up to the side and punched me. So that was broken nose number one…

I didn’t go to a doctor because I didn’t want to tell my mom what happened…

Apparently I found out about a year ago, because my nose was getting worse… I went to the doctor and he said “When did you break your nose? You have a horrible deviated septum. You’re a mouth breather, aren’t you?” I said “Yes I am…”

[I couldn’t get it fixed at the time] because we were filming.

We were in the middle of doing this concert tour… [in NY]. We had a day off the next day so I met some of my friends out and we were dancing. And again, there was a collision of sorts. I must be turning too quickly, people don’t see me or something like that. But it’s fixed now. I’m no longer a mouth breather.

[From The Late Show via video]

I usually hate doing these nose job and plastic surgery stories, because I’ll spend ages finding photos with the same aspect ratio to show the difference in someone’s face. Then I’ll line them up and size them the same. A change in nose shape that looks very obvious to me across multiple photos always has commenters who say there’s no difference or that it’s due to makeup or lighting. In this case the person admitted to it, though, and she had a very good explanation that seemed plausible. Plus if you look at her old nose it’s clearly broken-looking and smooshed to the side. She looks better now and her nose is shaved well. It’s not too small for her face like Jessica Biel’s new nose.

Here are photos of Dianna outside the Late Show yesterday. That dress looked better when she was sitting down. At least she wasn’t hanging out of it at the top or bottom.

Yeah….sure. You got punched. Deviated septum. Uh huh.

  2. Bubbling says:

I actually like Jessica’s nose. I mean it looks fake as hell but, I like it! This girl…meh I guess she is cute, definitely on the generic side but cute
On the other hand I am the girl who likes Jessica’s fake chopped nose, that doesn’t make me really competent

  3. Riana says:

I couldn’t even tell so whatever.

Honestly if mote celebs got subtle plastic surgery I doubt we’d judge so much, but it’s weird when you have a woman with a new face saying she uses herbal masks now or whatever.

Good for Diana, do what you want with your money as long as you don’t butcher yourself.

  4. LakeMom says:

Having been through this myself and meeting doubt as to the reasons why I had it done, I totally believe her. Having my deviated septum corrected solved a lot of breathing problems. I imagine with her it wasn’t as much aethestics (she was beautiful girl to begin with) as it was to help with her breathing and singing.

  5. Katie says:

I didn’t a notice difference but I’m not surprised to find this out. It’s funny b/c there was an episode of Glee partially about how perfect her nose is.

  6. Angela says:

Oh, the old “broken nose”, “deviated septum” excuse. Just say you didn’t like your nose and wanted to change it.

At least D. Agron made slight changes and you could believe she only did it to correct a few things. Elizabeth Mitchell from TV shows V and Lost had a huge nose before she operated it, but apparently she only did it because it got broken on some set years ago. Suuure.

  7. Val says:

Can’t David Letterman get someone to clean off the gum from those sidewalks? Every photo shoot outside his studio I can’t see anything but a filthy sidewalk! We have a powerwash company that does ours and we don’t have celebs walking in and out all day!

  8. LIVEALOT says:

THE GIRL W/ THE “CAN’T DANCE” TSHIRT STOLE THE SHOW FOR ME.

    lol. moving on…

  9. INeedANap says:

    Baby got back!
I am pleasantly surprised at that girl’s booty. Keep it plumpin Dianna!

  10. Stephanie says:

I liked her nose better before.

  11. 4Real says:

Seriously I have NO IDEA who this broad is but the “you’re a mouth breather aren’t you?” has me lmao!!

  12. jess says:

that makes me want to get a deviated septum correction. Between the inner crookedness and swollen nasal membranes with allergies I can only breathe about 7% through my nose and it is frustrating.

  13. Lisa says:

That outfit is awesome. She looks SEXY but not indecent/overexposed. Very nice.

  14. RADC says:

i don’t know. if you’ve ever seen the show she is definitely a mouth breather and sounds like her nose is plugged a bit. i’m betting a deviated septum. i had a friend who broke her nose twice and sounded the EXACT same way. Post surgery, no more mouth breathing and plugged sound.

i may also be biased to believer her bc i had a sighting of Dianna Argon with her new beau in PDX. They were very sweet and low-key at this random brewery on a Sunday afternoon.

  15. Kim says:

Her nose doesnt look very different so maybe she truly is a rare case of someone who had deviated septum and didnt use it as excuse to have nose job. But why even talk about it? Did Dave bring it up?

  16. Lady Lupton says:

I’ve been through the same thing and as far as I’m concerned it`s not something to do for vanity. Not a nice experience and not all my breathing problems are fixed.

  17. Melissa says:

A friend of mine truly did have a deviated septum, which she got fixed, and it did not change the way her nose looks at all.

  18. mln76 says:

I don’t really consider a Hollywood nose job plastic surgery because everyone has had one. I am more surprised at the people like Rachel MacAdams who are successful with their natural nose.
@Val you’ve obviously never been to midtown NY he’d have to have the sidewalk powerwashed every hour.

  19. Katija says:

For once, I actually believe the “reason behind the nose job” story. Her new nose looks like she just took a photo of what it looked like pre-punched/smooshed and had them restore it.

  20. It is ME!! says:

@Stephanie: me, too. She was just as pretty before.

  21. Camille says:

I think she looked better before. Now she looks as interchangeable as any other blonde starlet. Its the Jennifer Grey syndrome.

  22. OhMyMy says:

In the new pic she kinda sorta reminds me of Julianne Moore.

  23. Ally says:

Weren’t there rumors that Alex Pettyfer was controlling? Maybe he punched her in the nose.

  24. Ruffian9 says:

Really, such a pretty girl. And I LOVE her outfit!

  25. crtb says:

I like the new nose hate the haircut.

  26. april says:

I totally believe her. She had a beautiful nose before so why would she be lying? If someone had her “before” nose why would they change it? What legitimate doctor would do a rhinoplasty on a perfect nose? I’ve had deviated septum surgery too and it’s imperative to stop breathing through your mouth and breathe through your nose. Good for her. I’m glad she had a successful surgery.

She’s probably one of only a few actors that really did have a deviated septum and no rhinoplasty.

  27. Anna says:

I watch the show she is definitely telling the truth. Crazy how some people won’t even believe that and assume the worst out of every Hollywood actress!

In other news…Lea Michele is up against Lauren Ambrose from “Six Feet Under” for the Funny Girl role but I’m not sure yet who got it.

I thought it was for a stage revival but I think it might have been a new film version instead.

  28. Melancholy says:

She’s absolutely adorable. Wish I looked like that.
Actually first I want to look like Emma Stone, but failing that, Dianna.

  29. poodlemom says:

What a beautiful woman. Just perfect, really!

  30. mins15 says:

there is no reason your nose has to change shape because of surgery to fix a deviated septum. That is a total fallacy, people have their nose job because they are already messing around on the nose.

  31. sarah says:

    @RADC
Really?! In portland? I live in portland as well. I always hear about star sightings, but I never see a-one. Probably bc I don’t watch very much television… I read celebrity blogs/gossip to kill time… Haha. That’s neat though, I like people just being people and having a nice low-key time. 🙂

  32. Jeff says:

It appears a bit swollen last year, probably from the second break. Very natural look in this year’s photo.

  33. thenyclinic says:

Great!I would like to appreciate her confidence and the right decision that resulted in her perfect look. She looks even more gorgeous than was before.

    Thanks,

  34. Hello my friend! I want to say that this post is amazing, great written and include approximately all important infos. I?d like to see extra posts like this .

  35. Lee Adams says:

I’ve caught some old episodes of the show and when I heard this girl sing and talk, I was like, “hmm, she sounds so nasally. maybe she has a deviated septum or something.”

LOL and now I read this story from last year, so I guess she’s telling the truth?

Besides, it looks almost exactly the same, just a bit un-crooked.
