I wanted to give props to Avril Lavige for ditching the raccoon makeup (I know it doesn’t look like she did, but just compare her here with one of the last times she was papped, below), wearing a very tasteful, if plain, dress, and actually designing it herself as part of her Abbey Dawn line. Ok, so maybe she didn’t design it herself, because it doesn’t have pink skulls, purple tiger print, black and yellow stripes and a hoodie on it. She had the sense to slap her label on this otherwise unremarkable black short dress with a sheer neckline, though, and that’s something for Avril.
I also really love her stars and stripes shoes. This is the way to rock the new stars trend instead of wearing a fug dress with them splashed all across the front like Fergie. The shoes are too big and she’s wearing that whiteout polish that’s inexplicably popular now, but those complaints are minor.
Here’s one of the last times Avril was papped (above), which was outside an interview with Extra on 7/12. I really hope she was crying, like I don’t want her to have been reduced to tears or anything but that’s the only excuse for this awful makeup.
And here she is promoting her fashion line in Berlin on 7/7/11. I live in Berlin and while we have a thriving punk scene here it’s authentic and gritty, not looking like a teen girl who cut up her jeggings to sneak out of her parents house and drink Jaeger with her girlfriends. Who am I kidding? There are just as many wannabe kids here and she’d fit right in.
This is Avril at the Much Music awards on 6/19. See what I mean? She was so much improved last night. I think she looked shyer in her big girl dress too.

I’ve always thought that she’s a beautiful girl in stupid outfits. Glad she chose to tone it down and actually look nice. That said, I can’t believe she’s 26. She looks like 16!

Ick. Sorry but I can’t love the look- that dress looks so badly constructed, and with her hair and eye makeup, yeah it’s better than her usual appearances, but still looks like she’s in her thirties trying to fake being a teen.

What a stupid ugly dress
The fact that it’s an improvement doesn’t negate the fact that she looks like a college student who is waitressing part time at a sports bar,hates her job and can’t be bothered to blow dry her hair when she comes to work. not a good look for an event.
Wow, Avril is absolutely gorgeous, she has grown in to a very beautiful young woman. I am quite impressed. I thought she looked without a doubt the very best of all celebs at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards.
I absolutely heart those shoes. OMG! Must. Have. SHOES! I’ve never really listened to her music and never really paid her any mind except to think that she’s been dressing the very same since the tabs first started reporting about her. She looks wonderful in the black dress. What an improvement!

Avril Lavigne is perfect no matter what. She can be and do what she wants and if you ever lose that child in you, that youth, and zest for having fun no matter how old you get you are done. Keep rocking and thinking young no matter what age you are Avril.

Everyone always hates on everyone on this website anyway and yeah she did look really good at the T.C.A’s its a more mature look but it’s not like she’s never dressed like this before she has had 3 different types of looks in these past years.
Which is 1. girly , 2. Your typical hollywood /nightclub dress , and 3. punk rockish.. It’s whatever her taste is for that day or event that she wears. I also noticed that she was voted best dress in “H.L’s” website for the T.C.A out of alot of people.. So if people hate her dress ,there were alot of people out there who loved it. I actually do like Avril Lavigne and I am hardly what you’d think of as someone into that scene. Granted, she is not punk rock imo, she’s pop. I don’t understand how everyone will be like Avril Lavigne has no talent, just because she’s a pop star that dresses kind of alternative yet you don’t see the same level of hatred toward pop stars that dress more preppy and don’t take the time to write their own lyrics or play a musical instrument, both which Avril Lavigne can do. I like all kinds of music – everything from Britney Spears and Lady Gaga to Korn and Marilyn Manson. And I listen to an artist not based on whether he/she fits to a particular group or style but whether they actually can produce good music. And I like the smeared makeup look thank you very much! More celebrities should be doing it, instead of the passe “all-natural” look.
