At this point, Katie Holmes just goes to the opening of an envelope. I thought that Katie had no real reason to appear at last night’s Emmys, but I guess she was there to support The Kennedys, right? But she wasn’t nominated for her zombie turn as Jackie Kennedy or anything. Still, I guess some people were happy to see Mrs. Tom Cruise, and Katie managed to turn in a pretty good showing. Katie wore this blue Calvin Klein that really flattered her coloring. I’m kind of meh about what it does to her figure, though. I think the neckline is messing me up a little? I think if you’re going to wear a gown that’s cut like a sports bra, it should actually fit like a sports bra. It should be tailored and emphasize your smaller bust (because a girl with a larger bust won’t wear this sports-bra-inspired neckline). Still, the dress is pretty good on Katie.
As for the styling… her makeup looks GREAT. I swear, she has someone new doing her makeup these days, and whoever it is, he or she is doing a bang-up job. The hair is meh… I’m surprised Katie didn’t do another “Kate Middleton look”. I also think Katie could have borrowed some jewelry, right? She didn’t need much to complete the look, maybe a small pair of earrings, and maybe one bracelet.
What do you think Katie’s reaction to Jane Lynch’s Tom Cruise joke was? “Katie Holmes is in the house as well. I’d love to say something funny about her, but I’m afraid of her husband.” I noticed that there was no Holmes cutaway for that one… interesting.
Katie’s shoes are Pierre Hardy, by the way. They’re cute.

Her face looks great and some jewellery on the arms would’ve looked good. I think Kate is a little self-conscious about showing off her figure. Oh, and she has crappy taste in clothes.

Terrible dress. Terrible hair. Terrible make-up (seriously- ‘her makeup looks GREAT’?? She looks like she jogged to the event.) And, as usual, terrible posture. Katie has a very weird way of standing on the red carpet with her pelvis stuck out and her legs strangely bent outwards. Ugh. Oh, and can we talk about the fact that she’s not wearing a bra? Not good.

She is on most people’s Worst Dressed List, but I really liked this dress. Yes, it could have been a little tighter in the bust area, but I think it’s the best she’s been in a while. The color is gorgeous, the shoes are fun, and her makeup is fantastic. Esmom hit the nail on the head though-total gym hair. However, I think this look is a win for her.
edit:@everyone asking about earrings…I remember a LONG time ago, reading in my “Things you need to know about the cast members of Dawson’s Creek” book (I was like 13, no judgements), that Katie is really self concious about the size/shape of her ears, so she really doesn’t do much to show them off.

Yeah, no. She looks unkempt. Plus, does she just not “do” earrings? The dress cries out for some killer earrings…and we get…bare lobes. That’s pretty much the way with Katie–always a big disappointment.
Katie looked lovely last night, but I didn’t care for the dress. The color was very flattering, the style not so much. I thought her make-up looked great and her hair was cute.
I actually thought she looked amazing. She is quite striking when she smiles and has a bit of light in her eyes. Loved the dress, loved the color, loved the styling.
The dress is okay standing up straight, but on stage she was mostly rounded shoulders or hunched over a little. Then the straps looked nonflattering on her. Hair just no.

The dress looks like a terry cloth bathing suit cover-up, that’s the same hairstyle that I have when I’m Spring cleaning, and, OMG! I HAVE those shoes!!! I’ve had those shoes for fifteen years or so! They stay in my closet because they are very uncomfortable.
This is the 2nd time I’ve seen the neckline this week. The other time was on Kate Bosworth, I think. Looks like it will be a new trend.
She looks great and healthy. She should always dress classy, rather than shorts with ankle boots which doesn’t suit her body shape at all!

I actually like the thin belt and her rings are the only accessories. I think she looks great. I love the way that dress hangs–it has a lovely, breezy flow and I think the casual hair actually works with it. She’s looking better lately than she has in 10 years.

Watching the show last night with my husband who doesn’t know Katie Holmes at all.
When she comes on to present and begins to speak, his reaction “What is wrong with that woman” – It’s making me uncomfortable to watch her – she seems weird and out of it”
Then I explained who she was i.e. Cruise’s wife, and then it all made perfect sense to him.
First I thought what the heck is she doing there?! And then I notices something that I haven’t seen in her in a long time. She looked happy!
Then I thought maybe her ‘contract’ is just about up for her to look so radiant 😉

I never understood the hype around Calvin Klein clothing. Most of the brand’s outfits are pretty nondescript and don’t make the person wearing it stand out. Katie’s sense of style has really suffered since she stopped hanging with Victoria Beckham.

Totally out of place in an awards show – and i commented to my BF last night the hair looks disgusting and dirty.
This is truly UGLY…and what was with the “baby voice” last night? I hate women who sound like small children when they speak.
I hate it. It looks like it’s too big for her. The arm holes are huge! She looks like she just threw it on right off the rack and didn’t have it tailored to fit her. The hair and makeup are way too casual. From the neck up she looks like she’s going to the gym or something. She never gets it right!

And she is tallish so the length is nice for her and a GOOD change from all the weird shorter outfits she wears…she has athletic legs and does not usually accentuate or detract from them well on carpets.

Overall,, I dont mind it, and it does accentuate her face, which is very pretty IMO. She youthful and naturally pretty-but always allows her clothes to detract/distract from those qualities.

It’s like she decided at the last minute to throw something on, toss up her hair and run to the Emmy’s. She could have done much better. I do like her makeup. She’s looking more alive/younger than usual.

Good call Kaiser. The dress is beautiful and Katie is a beautiful girl. But the top looks way to big. Tailored to be snug fitting she would have looked smashing. The makeup is lovely – Heidi Klum with her face done something similarly would have looked much better, but the hair is AWFUL.
