Katy Perry’s baby bait-and-switch: she wants kids “in the very far future”

katy1

Katy Perry covers the October issue of InStyle Magazine. We’ve debated her hair many times, right? Or was that Rihanna? I forget. Is this Katy’s real hair or is this a wig? I don’t know. I hope for her sake it’s a wig, because I imagine keeping up this odd pink shade would be exhausting. As for the photo shoot – some of the photos are very pretty and striking, but… is it just me, or is Katy seriously channeling Gwen Stefani in these pics? In a few of the photos, the visual similarities are striking. I guess Katy got tired of channeling (“Copying,” I say under my breath) Dita Von Teese, and now she’s on to someone new. Also: the dress on the cover is Ungaro and the belt is Louis Vuitton. Anyway, here are some highlights from the article:

Katy on her red carpet style: “I kind of use this inner dial: Either I turn it up or down

On having kids with Russell Brand: “Not yet, I think if you’re married, it’s often in your future”

On raising kids: “I think in the future – the very far future – when I have children, I’ll have a more open approach, setting boundaries and showing them what their decisions and choices will breed.”

Getting her way: “I’m not going to sit and be steamrolled,” she says. “I am full of unicorns and Care Bears 99 percent of the time, but don’t open Pandora’s Box of that other 1 percent—because it’s there!”

Makeup time is sleepy time: “I ordered a special chair from the dentist so I can lie back and wake up looking like a million bucks—I call it my Sleeping Beauty makeup.”

On her passion for inspiring others: “I want to inspire people to let their true light shine to live a full life and achieve their dreams.”

On her expanding horizons since reaching stardom: “I feel like I’ve gone from living in a 2-D world to a 3-D world. It’s a product of traveling, having an open mind, and being open in general.”

On her 1940s and ’50s influence: “I take a lot of influence from pin-up girls of the ’40s and ’50s – when everything was done with a wink and a grin.”

On her passion to push the limits: “I love challenges. In fact, I get off on them.”

I’m always rather fascinated by the bait-and-switch she pulled on Russell Brand. She put herself out there as a girl-power chick who wanted a “real” relationship and wouldn’t put up with just a fling, insinuating that when she got serious about a guy, she would settle down and be a more “traditional” wife and there would be babies too. Seriously, go back and read some of Katy’s older interviews, the ones before she met Russell, and the interviews she did when they first started going out. And now she’s all “kids are a long way away, my career is the most important thing” etc. I don’t blame her and I’m not judging her – her career has made an incredible leap over the past year, and she’s one of the biggest pop stars in the world right now. It would be crazy for her to put that on the back-burner to start a family. She’s only 26!

But I do think the whole bait-and-switch thing is interesting – be careful what you wish for, because you just got it, Russell Brand. You wanted to have a real relationship, you wanted a “nice girl” and you wanted to “settle down”. This is what happens. Of course, I’d be willing to bet that Russell is pretty much over it and that he’s probably already got some strange on the side. Which is just another reason for Katy to not put her career on hold for him.

It’s her real hair. She tweeted all through the transformation from black to red, to pink. The thing with this hair is that when it looks good, it’s kinda cute, but when her hair’s having a bad day, it looks really bad. To be honest, I never really got her relationship with Russell. Sure, they are both funny and sarcastic and I guess that keeps everything lighter for them… but do you see true love? Or passion? It feels so weird. But I kinda like them together.

  2. I’m digging the hair and the photo shoot. Russell is already in his mid 30’s so would he be willing to wait another 5-10 years to have kids with Katy?

  3. kiko says:

i think purple hair would look better on her…

  4. Bedge says:

I have a bright purple dye dip, lariche directions have pinks very similar to hers. I like it!

  5. Delta Juliet says:

I don’t usually like odd colored hair (for examply RiRi’s) but I dig it on her. The blue and the pink. She pulls it off somehow.

  6. Happymom says:

I think she’s very cute and I her music is fun-but I’m going to hazard a guess that their relationship is in final countdown mode. Just the fact that she’s a party girl and he’s a recovering addict-not promising.

stranger things have happened somebody who can’t drink being married to a drunk who eventually goes sober as for example Paul Newman was a drunk half of his marriage to Joanne Wodward and she can’t drink because of extreme low blood preasure other than a nip of sherry every once in a while and he went sober in 1983 for the second half of their marriage Katy is the type that thinks kids will ruin her career no they won’t having kids didn’t ruin Sophia Lorens career though she purposely accepted less work to be home with her boys so they wouldn’t count on nannies like most celeb kids do

  8. Liza says:

I think her and Russell are a PR match made in heaven. Katy is milking an album that is OLD now, and Russell is one bomb away from celluloid oblivion. Katy is a hypocrite who double-talks about the most pointless trivia so mentioning a baby at all is a PR move like everything else. Her label will dump her if she gets pregnant. Another 50 million for album three + world tour, or a c-section, stretch marks, morning sickness and maternity dresses just when she can afford to wear Chanel every day? Yeah, tough decision. Russell still has to prove whether anyone should be paying attention to him so he has no time to be playing dad any time soon either. I’ll bet he has a secret kid or two stashed away anyway. Katy didn’t trick him. His whole libertine act was getting gross. And he is old. And his whole ‘I want domestic bliss’ crap was just misogynistic garbage to hook naive groupies that wanted to ‘mother’ him. Look at Arthur, the most manipulative re-branding image renovation movie I’ve ever seen. Women to him are either maids or fellatio facilitators (better if it’s a 2in1 or 2on1), nothing else. Don’t be fooled. Their relationship was an orchestrated PR move that made him less disease-infested looking and made her edgy, thus the lavender hair. But nevertheless, I think these two are a solid pair, unless Katy is swept up by a man who she has more in common with. As for their off-putting vibes in photo-ops, it’s just that they’re not that nice people individually, so together they just ooze nasty. It’s nothing personal.

I love her. Love the pics! She looks great here. I’ve had almost every color hair, usually I’ll have two big chunks go a crazy color, not too hard to keep up. I’ve had to give it up being away from home for so long-you can’t mess around with it. Your stylist has to know what you did to get it that way or you end up with no hair.
I hope she and Russell stay together, they are so odd but cute together.

  10. Kim says:

Another talentless airhead who must have a fantastic agent because she has ZERO talent and is scary to look at.

Didnt Cindy Lauper already do the pink hair thing?? And she has talent.

  11. cmc says:

Damn, @Liza, tell us how you really feel…

  12. renee says:

    Liza,

You are HILARIOUS!!!! I kept laughing while I was reading your comment. Thanks for making my day.

  13. Medusa says:

I saw photos of her a couple weeks ago, same color (though faded), bob length.

So this is her real hair dyed, with extensions added for length.

Unless her hair grows 5″ a week.

  14. Seabitchy says:

seems like she’s channeling evan rachel wood a bit too…?

  15. Crystalline says:

I definitely see the Gwen Stefani comparison. Especially the last photo, I remember Gwen wearing that style during the “Rock Steady” album, just with the blonde. I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if this is her new “image”, it makes sense for her to “channel” a woman who was considered very girl-power during the 90s, which Katy would’ve grown up with and remembered.

  16. colt13 says:

Liza with a Z coming out smoking!

I got used to Katy’s old look, now since the Smurfs movie came out, the hair color changes every week.

  17. Lady Satan says:

While I am most decidedly not a Katy Perry fan, I do applaud her choice not to have children so early in her marriage. She and Russell have a lot of years ahead (hopefully) and lots of time to decide when (and IF) to have children.

I don’t see it as a bait and switch, I see two people taking the smart route of enjoying their life together for awhile before throwing a baby or two into the mix.

In this one instance Katy Perry actually IS a good role model for young women!

  18. Lou says:

Lady Satan: Yeah right. She’s such an effing great role model. She sings how cool it is to underage black out drink and romanticizes adolescent sex with “no regrets” (which a lot of times leads to unwanted pregnancies). But for herself, she’ll only have one after she’s made enough money for 10 lifetimes and is in her thirties, maybe. Hypocritical b*tch being hypocritical again. (FYI her tentative choice of words say she’s reconsidering whether Russell was such a great idea.) Watch her change her mind again and be knocked up by next Christmas, maybe with another guy.

  19. mzfilo55 says:

Can’t stand this broad!! She’s fake & has no talent!!

  20. smh says:

I know she’s easy to dislike but I’m digging that hair colour. That’s all she has to offer anyway -some- cute clothes and hair. Too bad that she isn’t really doing anything for women or for female artists when she is in a position to do so. All she can do is cater to the misogynistic, backwards pin-up culture which never looks good on anybody except for Dita (and only because she is so stylish to the core)
