Sienna Miller blamed her family, Jude Law for selling her out to the press

The fallout from the ongoing News Of The World wiretapping scandal continues (and with good reason) in spite of the fact that the paper has shut down. Just because Rupert Murdoch closed the paper and suffered a pie in the face doesn’t mean that justice has been served for all of the families of terrorism bombing and 9/11 victims whose phones were tapped just so some unethical journalists could print the horrible details and sell more papers. So this saga will live on far into the future while many celebrities like Jude Law sue for having their phone hacked during the heyday of Editor Rebekah Brook’s tenure. Oh, and now Sienna Miller is speaking out too; of course, Sienna’s not the most sympathetic character out there, and it’s difficult to feel sorry for her, but I do feel for her family members that landed on the receiving end of her wrath. Before Sienna realized that her phone was being tapped, she accused her mother and sister of selling stories to the press. She also accused Jude of selling her out as well! Ah well, that relationship was entirely doomed from its many beginnings anyway, but Sienna now tells the Telegraph about her experience:

[Sienna Miller], 29, believed a succession of articles about her private life which appeared in the Sunday tabloid must have been leaked by a close friend or member of her family.

She was left so paranoid by intimately private stories published between 2005 and 2006 that she accused her mother Josephine, sister and former boyfriend Jude Law of selling them to the press.

Miller, who reached a £100,000 settlement with the NOTW and is now assisting with the Leveson inquiry, also said she planted false stories after becoming suspicious that her phone was being interfered with.

She told The Independent: “I changed my mobile number three times in three months. There were clicks on the line. I would pick up the phone and it would drop, there were messages I would never get, coupled with articles (containing private information) coming out every week.

“So I started to do tests. I would leave messages on people’s phones, like we’re going to rent this house or whatever, and it would appear next day in the papers.”

After a number of stories appeared that only her inner circle of friends and family could possible know about, the actress said she gathered them together for a showdown.

“I sat down in a room with my mother, my best friend, my sister, my boyfriend, and said someone in this room is lying and selling stories and one of you has got to admit it.”

Miller, who was targeted because of her high-profile relationship with Law, said she was still reluctant to take on Rupert Murdoch’s media empire when the hacking scandal emerged for fear that it could damage her career.

“Everyone was scared of Rupert Murdoch, even governments,” she said.

“People are terrified for their own reputations. They want the press on their side.”

Miller said she finally decided to take legal action because she could not stand back and do nothing.

“The tabloid media culture in this country had got to a point where it was completely immoral. There was no consideration for you as a human being,” she added.

“I realised I couldn’t continue living in this country and doing my job, which I loved. You want to feel that you can do something creative that you love without being picked apart and mutilated for other people’s pleasure.”

[From Telegraph]

While I don’t want to minimize the seriousness of the NOTW scandal, it’s hard to believe that Sienna was afraid of confronting the media when she figured out that her phone was being tapped. After all, she’d already successfully sued British tabloids for printing photos of her in distress as well as in the nude (for which she received a record judgment) on a movie set. Not to mention the time she sued over those topless photos with married Balthazar Getty. So I doubt that Sienna was truly afraid that confronting Murdoch’s publications would damage her career and is probably just saying that to make herself appear the martyr. Although perhaps she does regret breaking up with poor Rhys Ifans over the phone, right?

The bottom line, however is this — Hugh Grant got it right when he bugged that NOTW paparazzo and stated that he didn’t worry much about his reputation with the public: “They don’t give a sh*t. I got arrested with a hooker and they still came to my films. They don’t give a f*&@ about your public image. They just care about whether you’re in an entertaining film or not.” Obviously, while Sienna doesn’t deserve to have her phone tapped, perhaps she should also be concerned about what she does to damage her own reputation, which not only includes starring in crap movies but also banging married men. The latter has done far more damage to her reputation than NOTW could have ever managed on its own.

Yeah, that doesn’t ring true, she definitely damaged her own reputation more than any media outlet did.

  2. Cherry says:

Sienna looks so fresh and pretty in these pics. Did she have something done to her face? Went to a plastic surgeon and asked for ‘the Doutzen’ (see Fergie post from the other day)? Cause that’s who she reminds me of now.

  3. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Its one thing to sue for stuff you can prove like nude pics of you but its a whole another to sue for stuff you can’t. She probably didn’t know where to begin with trying to prove someone was hacking her phone which is why she confronted her family first.

I do feel bad for her. I think that Getty fella told her other things about his marriage so maybe she believed he was getting a divorce. I also hated the way she was cornered and named called waiting for elevator. That really made me sad for her. She was also cheated on quite humiliatingly by Jude Law. I like her and I think she is talented so ultimately feel bad for her.

  4. Launicaangelina says:

@LoveAngelina, I totally agree with everything you said. I like her and want her to do well.

  5. htk says:

Well, I think this seems … surprisingly cavalier. I think (of the celebrity targets) I may have the greatest sympathy for some of the people whom tabloid/gossip seems to have taken on a life of its own. Regardless of the bad choices Miller may make in her personal (or professional) life, conversations with intimate family and friends should not find their way into public discussion. If, after demonstrating a willingness to challenge these papers through several successful lawsuits, she was still targeted in this manner… I think that demonstrates a shocking audacity by the paper. She got the message that no matter the legal judgement in her favor, the papers would continue to pursue her (and maybe would do so by making close family or friends an informant). I do not know how one can hear such a story and not have sympathy for her.
Our awareness of these different bad choices (breaking up with someone on the phone, etc) is perhaps evidence that there is a cost to challenging tabloids’ access and means to a story. Atleast, I do not think it would be hard to convince myself of this if I were in the same situation.
And the Hugh Grant thing… he is a man. Are there such examples of resiliance among his female counterparts? I think gender plays a role in his particular (ugh) transgression.

  6. mln76 says:

I dislike her and all the shade she’s thrown about. But I still believe her on this issue. First off the media is tougher on women than men, second depending on what the articles where about especially since they were accurate they might not have qualified as slander.
I love gossip but these people have the right to privacy.

  7. atlantapug says:

OK, I was expecting to read this and not feel one iota of sympathy for the walking homewrecker that is Sienna Miller.
But having your phone tapped unknowingly so you eventually can’t trust even your closest family members? That really sucks. I hope she has been able to repair her relationships with them, and they in turn can see why she felt the way she did.

  8. atlantapug says:

Oh, and she looks GORGEOUS in that middle pic in the gray beaded shirt and boots. HOT!

  9. Sweepea says:

I never thought I would say this but I agree with you Love Angelina.

Also, Sienna looks really pretty here! I love her clothes.

  10. tapioca says:

@LoveAngelina: So it was “humiliating” when Jude Law cheated on HER, yet when she was knowingly banging a married man and making sure everybody knew about it in the tackiest way possible SHE was the innocent victim of a villainous, lying cad?

Poor, poor Sienna! It must be tough to be totally unable to take responsibility for your own unwise life choices and shameless media whoring…

  11. Eve says:

Miller loves her some drama, isn’t it? It’s unbelievable!

I personally think she’s an immature, self-centered, attention-seeking brat, but I have to admit that she’s really pretty. There’s some bohemian from the 70s vibe to her looks that I like.

  12. LOVE ANGELINA says:

@tapioca Like I said I thought Getty feed her some lies and made her think he wasn’t with his wife anymore or would be leaving her soon, when your young you for crap like that. I kinda think thats the case. Not sure if thats the truth but thats what I think happened.

  13. Sloane Wyatt says:

Sienna is looking gorgeous and fresh! I hope she goes on to star in something wonderful because she is so beautiful to look at.

Meanwhile, Murdoch STILL has his hand in the police, prime ministers, Fox, and God knows who or what else. One man has entirely too much power and is willing to use dirt on citizens’ private lives to make a buck and make or break careers. He is despicable and deserves to be in prison, but Murdoch is above the law and enjoys rich people justice.

What Sienna had to go through, questioning her own mother and lover, no one has the right to do that to you. Female celebs like Sienna and Blake get all the heat and judgement poured down on them for their indiscretions, while the Tiger Woods and powerful male celebrities go merrily on their way with a wrist slap at most. I am sick and tired of the double standard.

  14. Annaloo says:

Sienna Miller: Boring Whore or Whoring Bore?

  15. Darla says:

I absolutely despise tthis woman. She continually and forever casting herself as the victim, and she is just revelling in this now. No matter what, she was always the one wronged. She blamed the nanny when Jude cheated on her, the wife when she boinked a married man, the boyfriend for being unreasonably jealous when she was, indeed, cheating on him, the bouncer in the restaraunt where she threw a fit, the reporter who reported her clever “Shitsburgh” pun. Whah whah whah. She NEVER takes responsibility for what she does, so it’s hard to feel sorry for her when she was clearly wronged. She goes for one day to fly by point and cry at the orphans in Darfur, and then goes on a four week vacation. She’s the spokeswoman for global warming, and drives a huge ass car and flies thousands of miles every year for recreational reasons. She says stupid things and then tries to BS her way out of them. The fact is she a crap actor willing to show her bewbs, and her marketability has been declining since GI Joe. It’s only this and her recent thing with Jude that has kept her remotely in the public eye. Maybe when she grows up, I’ll loath her less, but I don’t see it happening.

  16. gloaming says:

I don’t get how she can cherry pick her lawsuits. I think the phone hacking is far more invasive than topless pictures. If she was worried about being employed by Fox Studio’s why sue the empire at all……

And it can be a positive career move also. Elle McPherson successfully sued them and as part of her agreement she got £750K and a TV show.

  17. Lentil says:

Never really had any strong opinions on her before, but I just saw that video of her leaning against the elevator with the paparazzi shouting and….damn. That was brutal.

  18. april says:

She looks gorgeous. Also, kudos for her for not having breast implants. It’s refreshing to see someone looking natural for a change in that department. I love the outfit with the grey top; I would wear that outfit.

  19. kieslwoski says:

I so totally agree with this post, Sienna Miller damaged her reputation all on her own. People in the UK hated her, she even had the word CUNT spray painted on her house.

Harvey Weinstein and Anna Wintour tried to make her happen (shove her down our throats) with no luck, this girl is a terrible actress.

  20. It is ME!! says:

Look, I will not defend the Murdoch empire. They just suck.

I will also not defend phone tapping, especially warrantless tapping, or phone tapping just for a story.

But let’s be honest here- her “scandals” are the only things that made her famous. It certainly can’t be her “acting.”

Just sue NOTW, Sienna, and go away.

  21. Annaloo says:

OH MY GAWD— I LOVE those red kitty cat slippers on the woman sitting next to her… I wonder where I could find those??

  22. spinner says:

Such a beautiful woman. I am sure all of this cheap drama has made her stop & rethink things.

  23. Kelly says:

I don’t really know about her personality – Jude Law, Balthazar Getty (not sure if anyone knows for sure what went down there besides the parties involved), etc. But I agree that having her phone tapped was an egregious violation of privacy, for absolutely no good reason. I mean, it’s not like she’s dealing in state secrets in her phone conversations; she’s probably talking about the new shoes she just got or something.

She’s still SOOOOO beautiful, though! Her face, her hair. Her legs are amazing; they’re exactly how I want my legs to look. And her style has been fantastic ever since she gave up the horrible “boho” style with the cowboy boots and the belt.

  24. lucy2 says:

I’m with her on the phone tapping stuff, that is awful, but have to agree she damaged her own image long before that stuff happened.

  25. Dolkite says:

I rewatched “Layer Cake” (a GREAT film) yesterday) and was once again mystified as to how she was seen as a hot girl. She had the body of a 12-year-old (there’s a prominent scene of her in lingerie) and she wasn’t really that pretty to begin with.

  26. Cerulean says:

No one deserves to have their private conversations tapped.

Her career always annoyed me. She was pushed but never delivered the goods. So glad she’s out of the limelight now. She’s very plain looking. Not even pretty.

  27. lrm says:

I don’t know why, but i LOVE siena; she is so gorgeous, has great style and I have enjoyed her in any of her films i’ve happened upon….ie, i don’t go to see ‘siena’ films, per se, but when i’ve stumbled upon them, enjoyed her in them.

I really don’t think that getty thing was that scandalous. from all accounts, he and his ‘wife’ have their own arrangement. meh. soo sooo soooo many actors and celebrity males use zero discretion all the time-i feel like ppl get all over siena on this blog in particular b/c she’s a woman doing the same thing. yea, people snark at the males, but not as viciously/toxicly as they do the women with same behaviors.

Anyway, aside from that, siena lives her life fairly normally in my opinion-she parties, dates, maybe serially monogamously so….and enjoys herself and her work. not that different from other actors out there, really.

    is there any jealousy?
    just curious
anyway, i’m usually quite non committal about most celebs, but siena is lovely IMO. i dont even know why logically speaking.

  28. Gayle says:

    @Dolkite:

Wow, are you serious? You must look like a freakin’ supermodel, b/c Sienna in LayerCake looked amazing. Face, body, everything. Daniel Craig called her the hottest girl in England after filming that movie with her.

  29. rainstarr says:

    To Annaloo: Funny!

Holy hell! She looks 19, 20 at the most in the 2nd pic, not 30! Anyone know what her diet is? Probably fruit and salads!

  30. rainstarr says:

We already know what her exercise regime is . . .

  31. rainstarr says:

We already know what her exercise regime is . . .

  32. jansie says:

All the poor Sienna crap makes me want to throw up! This girl strut in front of paparazzi in a Burger King, and they didn’t even look up. She wanted her picture taken so bad….read the whole account on Lainey!

Here she is, getting to be the victim: Her most famous role. Nice how she says she blamed her family and Jude – what a sweetie. If you ask me, it says something about her own sensibilities. But, she’s not getting any other attention so I guess a girl has to toot her own horn. Spare me the sympathy about Getty – she knew what was going on there. They were NOT split up, did anyone even read the interview he and his wife did after that mess was over? Do you think P-Diddy fed her a line, too? What about Daniel Craig? He had a girlfriend. The truth about Miller is she’s all about herself and nobody is a victim like she’s a victim. She’s not treated any worse in the press than Jude or Hugh have been. Jude’s suffered a lot worse for a lot longer from the time him and Sadie divorced. And Jude’s humilation of her? Yeah, what do you think she was doing in LA while Jude was in NOLA? She was partying and sitting on men’s laps, which she chose over staying with Jude. Personally, I would have kicked her nasty tail to the curb right then. Real girlfriend material right there. All she wanted to do was sleep and party. Do you think a man is going to sit around doing without sex while his girlfriend is off acting like a blow-up doll? So as far as I’m concerned, she brought lots of stuff on herself. She broke up with Rhys Ifans by phone while she was on her way to get with Getty. The girl is a train wreck, and men should just steer clear. She has no talent and has to leech onto other people to get any recognition: Jude, her sister, her co-stars…she’s worthless.

I don’t think ANYBODY should have their phones hacked. I feel for all of them. Sienna, though, just has to somehow make herself to be the most special person in the room. Sienna, you got your settlement, now just go away and quit pretending like you’re the patron saint of justice.

  33. Darla says:

@Irm: he and his wife have an arrangement? Says who? The Getty’s gave an interview later that said their marriage barely survived Siennagate.

I go back to saying what I did earlier. She says and does extremely stupid, self-involved things, and then blames everyone else for making her look bad.

Am I jealous? No, because she is two things I could never stand to be: stupid and weak. Toss in evil, and you have a pretty bad human being. Everything she has was handed to her on a silver platter, and she can’t deal when things don’t go her way. I will take my better than average brain and meh looks over her cry baby ass any day.

  34. Victoria says:

What is this 2005? I didn’t even know Sienna was still relevant outside of her scandals. LOL.

She’s overhyped in the beauty department. She’s not Halle or Moulin Rouge era Nicole Kidman, but she’s alright. Her acting, I never thought was everything the ass kissing mags like Vogue (which I still love) and Elle claimed it to be.

She’s thin, prettyish, is half Yank, half Brit, has an accent and is able to rock designer duds and is a blondie. Plus she has lots of sex scandals. Tabloid dream!

  35. jansie says:

“Daniel Craig called her the hottest girl in England after filming that movie with her.”

Gayle, they had a little film to promote, that ended up doing next to no box office, so what else is he going to say? And he’s with Rachel Weisz now, someone with a whole lot more talent and class. I’m sure he’d change that comment in a heartbeat: A partying blow-up doll can’t hold a candle to Rachel.

  36. I Choose Me says:

I think she’s an insecure, narcissistic airhead but goddamn is she pretty. I’ve always thought so and these pictures just reinforce my opinion.

  37. Darla says:

I would have to add that only a complete moron would think that Jude would ever leak anything to the press. He truley hates them, as opposed to being a famho who flips them the bird with one hand and beckons them with the other.
