Jane Fonda on her plastic surgery: I’m not brave enough not to do it

Jane Fonda, 73, got some work done on her face in early 2010. She was pretty open about it at the time, and just admitted she’d done it and even listed off the procedures she’d had. This came after Fonda swore off additional plastic surgery about a decade ago, having had a face lift and boob job by then. She realized that she was going back on her word, and she was very open and honest about it. I thought it was refreshing to hear a celebrity take that stance on plastic surgery and be like “yeah, I did it.” Plus Jane’s results were good. She looked a little puffy and pulled at first, but it settled for her and now she looks fabulous and not at all fake. In a recent interview on Rosie O’Donnell’s talk show (video above), Jane said that she wanted to get more done when she caught a glimpse of herself and realized that she wasn’t looking as good as she felt.

Jane explained the turning point that led to her decision, saying, “I was walking down the street and I saw a reflection of myself in the window and it scared me, because I feel so good and I look so tired.”

Jane had minimal work done — only requesting to remove the bags from under her eyes and to have a little nip/tuck just underneath her chin.

Ironically, her career in front of the camera was one of the reasons Jane remained adamant about keeping her crow’s feet and other signs of age.

Jane admitted to Rosie that an artificial look could have taken away from her ability to play women in her age bracket.

“I’m not proud of it at all,” Jane said of her procedures. “I wish I was braver.”

[From ET Online]

As Rosie mentioned, Jane did it the right way. She didn’t fill her face full of fillers and she didn’t ‘tox the hell out of herself. Plus she’s got a normal-looking nose that isn’t all shaved down. She doesn’t “look like that alien pulled Hollywood thing,” as Rosie puts it. I doubt she wishes she was braver, though. She looks good and she knows it. Sign me up for some of that, seriously. Just looking at Tom Cruise lately is convincing me that there are some gifted magicians among the hacks who work on celebrity faces.

Jane Fonda is shown on 12/7 11/30 and 10/26/11. Look at her working those high waist animal print pants! Credit: WENN.com.

I think she looks amazing and I really like her BUT is rips my knitting when celebs endorse products like Loreal, the face cream she is promoting does not give her these results, it is her surgeon.

    • Nanz says:

Agree. Whenever I see a celeb pushing OTC cosmetics, I think “yeah, right.” Ellen Degeneres is the only one that I find a little convincing.

      • Lee says:

Agreed about the cosmetics endorsements. It’s so misleading.

And I really like Ellen as a cover girl, but it also seems to make no sense to me since cover girl is produced by proctor and gamble which tests on animals, yet Ellen is supposed to be a vegan advocate against animal cruelty? Do not get it.

EDIT: so a google search has informed me that p&g has limited their animal testing to only food and drug products where it’s required by law and no longer tests cover girl products on animals. Good to know since I’ve been avoiding the brand for a good 10 years.

Do you remember last spring when the UK refused to run Julia Roberts Lancome ad because it was all photoshopping and therefore false advertising 🙂 If it’s not fillers and surgery its photoshop.

    • whatevs says:

came in to say exactly this.

    • Fatkid says:

I will be looking for an opportunity to use “rips my knitting”. Love it!

& totally agree with your point.

    • roxann says:

Who is jane fondas face surgeon? She looks great and I want to look 20 yrs younger.

  2. Bad Fairy says:

I think she looks great. Hope I look that good at 63 much less 73

  3. Ambergesa says:

She does look fantastic and I think it’s a very honest to say she’s not brave enough not to. Because like it or not that’s the climate older actors work in. Look young or don’t work or get any coverage really. But sweet jesus what is the deal with the giraffe diaper under boob pants?

  4. Cher says:

Im not liking her new chompers, looks artificial. She should go back to her dentist and ask for rounded ones to make her look more youthful.

I do like her tho and I think she’s an amazing woman.

  5. mln76 says:

Good for her. Having that kind of comfort with oneself to be honest is the best beauty aid.

  6. spinner says:

UGH!! Can’t stand this woman. Go away, Hanoi Jane!!

  7. stephanie says:

    at least she’s admitting it.
    she looks good.

  8. Cathy says:

She’s nothing more than trash and should of been charged as a traitor for what she did against the POWS back in Vietnam. If she was sick and I was the only one who could save her, I wouldn’t.

    • Kathy says:

What a stupid thing to say considering she did nothing to our POWs. This is about her plastic surgery not 40 yr old politics. Go read McNamaras book then go back to Fox News. I think she looks great and always interesting.

  9. Cerulean says:

She looks like my mother in law now. My mother in law is a firm believer in the conservative nip and tuck. Which means looking great for your age but not trying to look 30 again. I don’t begrudge a woman
good tasteful work. Jane has had tasteful
work and is honest about it. No shame in that.

  10. Calli P says:

Most worthwhile, she looks like she’s had a killer peel or laser treatment, her skin looks really nice ( referring to texture, not elasticity). Not sure I’d be brave enough for that.

  11. paola says:

and ladies…..this is how it is done!
if you have to go through plastic surgery then do it just like she did!
i guess some other celebrities like nicole kidman or cracky crackhead Lindsay lohan would pay all the money they have to go back to their old faces.

  12. blonde on the dock says:

Love her! I think she looks great.

  13. DeeVine says:

    She’s got a great surgeon!

  14. Lisa says:

She does look pretty pinned and pulled sometimes, but that’s temporary. She does look good here, and I admire her honesty.

  15. JennJenn says:

I think Jane is a good role model for older women who want to look tastefully attractive. She wears stylish, fun clothes that play up her trim figure while keeping most of her skin covered, so she’s not letting everything hang out and sag for the cameras like Ivana Trump.

  16. sandy says:

her honesty is refreshing, she looks good, very tasteful, and i agree about the dressing, fun and flirty, age appropriate without showing skin.

  17. Kim says:

I dont think wanting to look good makes you a coward. I think lying about NOT having obvious work done is more cowardly. Admitting you have had work done and making no apologies for it is brave. To each his own.

  18. Jane: Remember on Jul 25, 2011 your QVC appearance was canceled after viewers threatened to boycott the show if you were allowed to appear. Didn’t you get the message…women do not like you! Keep out of politics; leave conservatives alone. You should be ashamed of yourself. You are not only self centered but lonely and keep on truckin with the face lifts…but do a good deed for a change; stop being judgmental of people. You would think at your age you would finally get people’s messages whether direct or indirect!
