Yesterday, I covered the photos from Monday night of Vanessa Paradis at the Paris premiere of her latest film, Café de Flora. I thought she looked beautiful – prettier than she had looked in a while. I also thought I might have detected some sadness in her eyes, but I could have just been projecting. These are some new photos of Vanessa at the Chanel show on Tuesday – once again, I think she looks great. So what’s up with all of the Johnny Depp-split rumors? Vanessa didn’t confirm or deny the split on the red carpet for Café de Flora, but she did get cryptic during a radio interview yesterday. When asked about the split rumors, Vanessa said:
“You know, when I eat three peas, I’m pregnant. When I visit a city, I’m buying a house. In the winter I separate, in the summer I marry. It’s been fifteen years since I’ve been getting married every year. In addition I have to answer all these rumours!”

Apparently, she also said that she doesn’t believe in marriage or soul mates because “If you lose your soulmate everything is done for. Cafe De Flore speaks of love, its joys, its pains and its dramas – to love and to lose. This story upset me, I was upside-down, in the depths of myself. The idea of a soulmate is beautiful and very romantic to talk about it in a movie or a song, but in reality, I find it scary.” Damn, Vanessa is playing this close to the vest, isn’t she? I don’t know what to think – my guess is that they really are over, but it’s relatively amicable, and neither one of them has an axe to grind. That could just be wishful thinking, though.
UPDATE: People Mag has a different version of Vanessa’s comments, which… are still odd. She says the rumors are false though:
“The press is going on about this separation with Johnny Depp … How do you handle these rumors?” asked Massenet [PEOPLE’s French correspondent translated the interview].
“It depends which rumor,” Paradis replied. “Here, this is one which could hurt my family. After that … they say that we have 52 houses in France, we separate in winter, we get married every summer. Me, I’m in my 12th pregnancy.”
“All this is, I don’t know, because the Queen of England didn’t lose her teeth this week and there’s nothing happening,” Paradis continues of the coverage of her relationship with Depp, 48.
“And to finish the rumors off, they are false?” asked the program’s host, Michel Denisot.
“Yes, they are false,” she replied.
Which rumors she was referring to remains unclear (or perhaps lost in translation?) But multiple sources tell PEOPLE in this week’s cover story that Depp and Paradis’s relationship is all but officially over.
So… still together then? I don’t even know.

I don’t know if they’re broken up, and I don’t think her quote is referencing Johnny. By “lose your soulmate” I think she means when they die.
She seems smart and that quote is true.
ITA! I mentioned my Aunt losing her husband of 35 years, and then my hubby’s Uncle lost his wife of over 60 years. True soul mates, and those two people whom I love are SO lost. Incredibly sad.
My hubby and I have been true soul mates since we met at age 20. If something happened to him, my world would crash down.
I’d rather have the soulmate and risk the loss. As they say, better to have something amazing and chance the loss than never to have had it at all.
That is such a beautiful statement. Hollywood often shows us “soulmate relationships” at their beginning or end, but there’s little for us to draw from that. Your story gives people hope that such relationships do, in fact, exist.

No she made the remark in response to an interview in the Mail on Sunday years back after Kate came out of rehab for the 3rd time and I think Vanessa had just had Lily Rose.
Sadie Frost (Kate’s BFF) and Moss herself seethed at the remark and yes I believe they had reason to.

I think I mention that movie in every thread where Paradis gets blasted for being “ugly.” But I don’t know how someone who’s seen that could call her “ugly.” She so was charming and adorable and BEAUTIFUL in that movie that she gets a lifetime pass from me.
So maybe she hasn’t aged well, and maybe she should smile exclusively with her mouth closed. But even so she’s not “ugly.” I’d love to see what some of you look like.
Actually it was a live TV show called “Le grand journal” and she actually was not cryptic at all since she denied the rumors and was quite angry at the medias, she said that she normally do not answer to questions regardin her private life but this time the media went way too far and it is hurting her children big time and she concluded with exasperation: of course these rumors are not true!! Even if it’s nobody business we are together!

I think she handeled it well and wanted to silence the tab rumors. But I do believe that their relationship has hit a rough spot and they don’t spend a lot of time together. But they are commited to their family and are trying to show a united front.

I think she’s essentially saying it’s none of anyone’s business and she refuses to engage with correcting rumours that either have no basis in fact or concern her private life. Imagine, a celebrity who won’t play the game. Kudos to her.

I think that when she spoke about soul mates it was all from the movie’s point of view because the story is about love etc.. and she added soul mates only exist in fantasy worlds created by writers etc… – which is true and I think some people might have understood her comments the wrong way, but on the other hand..everyone is talking about her and just “totally coincidentally” she’s promoting this film…

My querry is the hint that it’s ‘from devastation’ from the break up, that him drinking heavily which he has been doing for a good 30 years (see his hanging out with Oasis – Gallagher brothers) reflect the state of his relationship in any capacity? As opposed to it being business as usual.
I think they are having a very rough time. In previous interviews she was so in love, it was crazy! And now this? Well, still keeping those fingers and toes crossed because there is hope!

I actually think if she wanted to hold onto him, she’d have agreed to marry him. He’s said several times that if she wanted to, he would. So she clearly doesn’t need that added security.
I get the feeling that they have issues, that they are both very independent and passionate, and that they fight, separate for a while, then make up.
But that people article raised questions, and that they carried this new quote is equally strange, like they are hedging their bets. They could have made a mistake…
I think she looks beautiful, just not the typical hollywood boring “beauty” that we are so used to seeing here in the U.S. Also, her quote on soulmates is spot on and realistic in my opinion so I dont see why saying that would be an indication that she and johnny are spitting up.
Not sure what she means about QE2’s teeth, but I appreciate her point that the rumor mill never stops. I just wish she had declined to address the rumor altogether and said bluntly that it’s not the business of anyone outside her family.
Split no split I don’t know but may celebrities have talk about being in love or said thier not going to split/divorce in interviews but the next thing you know they split so we won’t know until it happens.

Lainey said on her site that during the filming of the Tourist. Vanessa was in a bad mood and being bossy. That Johnny just continues to put up with it until recently I guess. Vanessa isn’t happy I think with Robin Baum Johnny’s publicist. Because there is no way People would publish that story/cover without being sure Johnny Depp team was on board. Baum could have already made a comment denying the rumors like she has in the past. But, she isn’t because this time they are breaking up but Vanessa is refusing to let go.
I wonder if Depp won’t be able to get Vanessa on board making an official joint statement announce the split since now she is being defiant. Depp’s PR may have to go it alone because Vanessa is not working with Johnny’s PR team. His PR isn’t backing her up right now, that should be clear one is trying to make the break and the other is refusing to let go.
You make some really good points here. I heard all that rumbling from the Tourist set, too. It was right around that time that Johnny got flirty (or more) with that beautiful extra in Hawaii. That was when you stopped seeing them together very much. But, most of all, I agree with your point about the silent publicists. That silence is louder than anything she says. But, she has to protect her children and I know I would do/say ANYTHING to keep mine from being publicly humiliated. I don’t think she’s in denial and hanging on. I just get the sense that staying quiet long enough will make interest in them fade a bit and they can decide what to do out of a real hot spotlight. And I do think that quote (all of it) was twisty-turny and non-specific.

Well, at least she’s getting some attention for SOMETHING. Cracks me up when media refer to her as “singer/actress”. Are you fkng kidding? Where is THAT happening? She’s dull, unattractive (I’M being kind) and typically french (check her pits).
It might be wise to stop cracking up when she is referred to as a singer/actress because that is… what she is. Some of her songs are quite good, and I’ve seen a few films she was in.
I think it’s Vanessa’s cheekbones that Madge was going for with her plastic surgery. Didn’t work. I think Vanessa is pretty, her bone structure is unusual. I’ve never followed their relationship, but I don’t think she’d outright lie about “rumors” being untrue, it’s not as if the truth wont come out. @mln76 He didn’t fall down drunk. His brother was walking right next to him and because of the crowd he tripped and dragged Johnny down with him. JD probably was a bit drunk but you can look closely and see his brother being the one to cause Johnny to lose his balance.
