Katherine Heigl’s ‘One for the Money’ crashes at the box office: is her career over?

These are photos of Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley this weekend in Paris, and — surprise, surprise — they brought Katherine’s mom, Nancy, along for the trip and collectively did a little Sunday morning shopping at the flea market. Poor Josh. For many spouses, it’s only a natural reaction to recoil at spending time with in-laws, but he seems to take it in stride. Or maybe he just has no choice?

At any rate, Katherine has much more pressing issues to deal with than whether or not Mom should be hanging around during what could be a romantic getaway. Her latest movie, One for the Money, performed terribly at the box office with a mere $12.6 million opening weekend. Of course, it looked like a hideous movie from the very beginning. Yet for years now, Heigl’s been making really awful movies that have miraculously fared well at the box office regardless of quality. From a global perspective, 27 Dresses grossed $160 million, and The Ugly Truth brought in $205 million. It wasn’t until Killers that Heigl’s reputation began to catch up with her at the box office, and part of that movie’s failure could be the miscasting of a shirtless Ashton Kutcher. Of course, Heigl likely gathered most of the blame in that instance because of her admittedly crappy attitude while promoting films and while delivering an Emmy speech. NY Mag has weighed in on Heigl’s image problem, and it’s pretty brutal stuff:

Like Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Angelina Jolie, and Reese Witherspoon before her, Heigl used to be a “Turn-key” — just get her signed on and you had yourself a go picture. No longer. Heigl now not only finds herself off that vaunted list, but “she’s not on any lists at all,” says one top talent agent. “She’s on a respirator. She’s not the girl anymore.” Instead, Heigl has fallen out of view, far, far behind a pack of young insurgent leading ladies — Emma Stone, Amanda Seyfried, Scarlett Johannson, Mila Kunis, Kristen Stewart, and Kirsten Dunst — who themselves have nowhere near the clout that Roberts, Bullock, and Jolie et al. once did. Even Mia Wasikowska, who isn’t known for comedy, is ahead of Heigl now, as is Another Earth star Britt Marling. In short, when all of these names are ahead of you, you can’t really claim to be on a short list.

Though she’s known for playing the statuesque blonde who’s a goody two-shoes, her frosty public image subsumes that, and it’s cost Heigl her core fan base. [T]he studio behind Money, Lionsgate, seems to acknowledge the effect she now has on people. Says one distribution chief, “Look at the TV spots: You notice that they’re not calling her out? There’s no ‘Katie Heigl stars in …’ They’re going out of their way to not mention her. They’re hiding her; they might as well black her f&*#ing face out. Because when you don’t call out a movie star like that? They know there’s an issue. She did something to turn everyone off. Whether it’s behavior or perception, but she did something.”

Reps say there’s a great irony in that Heigl’s next film is called One For the Money — it neatly sums up her approach to most movies since 27 Dresses. “They [her agents at Paradigm] really tried to maximize her quote, but they out-priced her,” says one agent. “Then she followed that price up with bad bombs and bad attitude. She doesn’t have the value she used to have, and people think she’s incredibly difficult to deal with.”

Oddly, her flops seem to showcase a cognitive dissonance caused by Heigl’s public persona: She was playing a relatable love interest, and yet moviegoers increasingly thought of her as tough and snappy. Says a marketing exec, “In Killers, she was a pampered rich girl who’s a goody-two-shoes. She’s all kerfuffled when she bumps into [Ashton] Kutcher, because she’s a ‘nice girl.’ Come on. This [new role as a tough bail bondsman in Money] is a little off that hard-core image disconnect, but it might be too late.” Had she taken on unapologetically bitchy, maneater roles earlier, we might have less of a time suspending disbelief. After all, Angelina Jolie really popped in Mr. & Mrs. Smith when she paired her bad-girl offscreen rep with a femme fatale role that was far more edgy than Lara Croft. But the time for that course correction seems to be nearly past: Two top publicists say there’s little to be done except wait for the radioactivity to die down, and reemerge in either indie film or network television.

“I think she tried to fix this with PR once, but at this point, I don’t buy anything coming out of her mouth,” says one top flack. “It’s funny, because the question we were asking ourselves last night is, ‘Does she have really bad management, or just terrible taste?’ Momagers are never helpful, but part of the problem seems to that she seems to have become incredibly complacent with her choices: She’s out there promoting crap, and people are not respecting that.”

Another publicist is incredulous at Heigl’s temerity in her ham-handedly public disclosure that she’d been seeking a return to Grey’s Anatomy. “She wants to return to the show?” asked one PR maven, incredulously. “Once you walk away from a show like that — the way she did — there’s no going back. And to say it that way, ‘I always felt that if they wanted me to come back’ and ‘I want them to know that I’m down with it if they want me to … ‘ is amazing [chutzpah]. She needs to stay away [from the limelight] for a while, come back with a film worth seeing, and be given extremely detailed talking points to promote it. She has to prove herself as a human being and an actor.”

[From NYMag]

Moviefone has also chimed in on the Heigl problem by discussing a One for the Money Groupon promotion that failed to help matters even while targeting Heigl’s key demographic of age 25-to-35 women who would ideally still be fans of her work on “Grey’s Anatomy” and also be familiar with Janet Evanovich’s literary source material. Moviefone has concluded that the issue is partially a matter of Heigl “need[ing] to find better material,” such as a villainous role in manner of Julia Roberts in My Best Friend’s Wedding. Still, they advise her to take significant time off before attempting to make a grand return to Hollywood’s good graces.

I cannot help but feel badly for Katherine in some regard. Yes, she’s a mouthy tart but has acknowledged as much in an effort to make amends. However, Heigl hasn’t found it easy to change the public perception of herself as a diva. Even her recent frank and levelheaded essays about motherhood and marriage have generated some discussion but seem largely like a PR maneuver and last-ditch effort to repair a badly damaged reputation. It’s the same problem that Megan Fox ran into a few years ago when her mouth got ahead of her career. Sure, both Katherine and Megan are guilty of acting like brats when it comes to badmouthing their own movies, but are they really worse than some of the guys who do the same thing? I mean, Robert Pattinson is notorious for crapping all over the Twilight franchise (which has made him many millions and turned him into a household name), but he is widely celebrated in that regard. When he does it, it’s funny. Yet when women like Katherine or Megan do it, well screw them, right?

Here’s more of Katherine and Josh at the flea market working in a snuggle while Mom stepped out of the picture for a moment. Unfortunately, Katherine’s styling continues to be an issue with unflattering hair and sunglasses doing most of the damage in these photos.

Fortunately, Katherine did decide to leave Mom at the hotel so that she and Josh could enjoy a romantic dinner and trip to the Eiffel Tower on Saturday evening. I hope they at least booked Mom a separate hotel suite as well.

Roberts, Bullock, Jolie and Witherspoon are all in completely different categories. Heigl is neither especially blessed with talent nor looks.

    • Pix says:

I think Katherine Heigl is the most attractive of this group. She is actually quite beautiful. It it too bad her stank attitude now clouds her good looks. It is also too bad she chooses to dress herself–girlfriend needs a stylist.

      • Samigirl says:

I definitely think Katherine is gorgeous. Did you not see her in the first couple of seasons of Grey’s? Or in that white dress in The Ugly Truth? She’s got a killer body and her face is lovely. She’s just kind of sour.

      • mln76 says:

I think she styles herself terribly. She makes harsh and dated.

    • Amanda G says:

You can say a lot about her, but to say she doesn’t have looks is ridiculous. With the exception of Jolie, she is the best looking of your list.

      • Gayle says:

She has the most to work with, but she makes the least of it, I’d say. Her eyes are too dark to carry of platinum blonde hair. Her clothing style, horrendous.

  2. Madrid says:

I like her and the kind of movies she does but theres a difference between knocked up or the ugly truth (you get amused with no pretentions) and killers, that is crap and you´re wishing it ends asap. IMO She should stop wearing that hideous sunglasses and should drop the blond as well.

  3. atlantapug says:

Maybe mom came along to help out with her granddaughter. I like to see family together.

Anyway, I can’t stand KH. The one and only time I liked her even a little was when she stuck up for her gay co-star on Grey’s way back when.

Talk about biting the hand that feed you, she’s the expert at that move. Being a b!tch + no talent = byebye career.

  4. Samigirl says:

I bought my ticket on groupon, because I LOVE Janet Evonovich, but I knew the movie would suck. This series would have been a much better television show. I’m kind of sad I’ll never see Stephanie and Ranger and the vordo. Ahhh well, such is life.

    • Dana says:

I always thought it would be a great tv show too. Maybe we will still get it. After all, “Buffy” was a movie first.

    • Petunia says:

Television might be a great medium for this series. It could more closely capture the gritty cheesiness of the Trenton area. And maybe get some unknown actors who are actually FROM Jersey. I think yours is a GREAT idea!

    • lucy2 says:

I think it would be a good TV show too! And given KH’s career status, maybe she’d take the TV role.

I’m about to start book 13, they’re my mindless, listen to while working books. Stephanie sure is stupid sometimes though.

    • MsLib says:

      What a shame 🙁
I always pictured a better actress for this part as I love the “cotton candy” stories Evanovich writes. Even as a TV show, they will need to recast this main part if they are looking for a fun translation. But then I never thought Bones would make it after watching the first episode with Emily Deschanel. I loved reading Reichs’ books too. They proved me wrong because the show has excellent writers and they have surrounded the lead characters with quirky and talented actors.

  5. Tiegan says:

I read that her movie did as well as predicted so it was hardly a bomb. And it was shown in fewer theaters than The Grey or Underworld, and probably cost a hell of a lot less, so there’s that.

I’m so sick of this ‘is her career over?’ bullshit that gets thrown at female actors, yet Sam Worthington’s movie did far worse and nobody will bat an eyelid.

That said, this movie did look terrible.

    • Tapioca says:

Sam Worthington has upcoming guaranteed BO success in Wrath of the Titans and Avatar 2, so his dumped-in-the-theatres-in-January movie has much less riding on it than hers, plus I don’t recall him ever publically criticising the writers of a project he was currently working on.

There are plenty of actresses who’ve disappeared into oblivion without us even noticing – it’s less sexism, than knowing KH has burned so many bridges that it’s schaudenfreude-tastic to watch her career disintegrate!

I would have thought that ungrateful TV actors with stars in their eyes would have learnt from David Caruso not to bite the hand that feeds by now.

      • SolitaryAngel says:

Ditto everything you just said! I’m happy to see that what goes around comes around.

      • The Original Mia says:

Well said. She burned her bridges. There was no concerted effort by those misogynists to take her down. She screwed up & let her mouth get ahead of her career.

    • CC Ley says:

I agree, Tiegan. All the sites I was on this weekend said that the movie had “overperformed,” doing better than predicted. Hardly a bomb!

      • LAK says:

It ‘overperformed’ against a prediction of $9M for the opening.

This movie was initially scheduled for release summer 2010. Summer movies are usually predicted conservatively at $30M+ per movie.

The studio pulled it, sat on it and released it in the graveyard of January with such little expectation.

It is a huge come down for someone who was pulling down $200M+ only 18months ago.

Another thing, there is a huge book fan base who woulda, coulda, shoulda increased the film receipts, which is why it was scheduled for original summer release.

There was alot riding on this film vis a vis her career, so maybe $12M can be considered a success for her, but is a complete failure for a book series that could have been a franchise.

    • mln76 says:

It’s not about if it did as much as predicted the week OF the opening. It’s about the production budget. Since Heigl has no international Box Office draw it had to do well in the US to make the studio $$$.

      • LAK says:

Exactly min76. And the estimated budget was $40M. So the studio predicted a failure, and are happy that it didn’t tank as expected.

I don’t think Heigl is one of those actresses whose BO takings improve if the film stays in the cinema longer, so it’s more important for her to do a strong opening, as opposed to Sandra Bullock who may have middling opening, but takings increase the longer film is out.

  6. brin says:

She looks like an old lady (I’m not talking about her mother). Ditch the sunglasses and granny hairstyle.

  7. Snappyfish says:

Is her career over? One would hope so!! Her movies are awful & her behavior worse

  8. Franny says:

those sunglasses are seriously the worst. it makes her looked like she’s…slow. I don’t know how to word that.

  9. lucy2 says:

I never understood how she so quickly became a “star” anyway, those rom coms she did were awful. The Ugly Truth was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

That said, this did better than I expected actually. I’d imagine it was pretty cheap to make and will probably turn a profit when all is said and done, but she definitely has a career/image/likability problem, and it’s not really anyone’s fault but her own.

  10. buell says:

Whomever cast this obviously has never read any of the Stephanie Plum books. I thought that Katherine Heigl would be the worst thing in it. Sadly, I was wrong. Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Mazur was the cherry on this craptofest. The best acting I saw during this movie yesterday was Rex the hamster.

It was all so very, very wrong.

    • Petunia says:

Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Mazur??? Oy! What about Betty White? THERE’S someone who’d make Grandma Mazur proud to have portraying her.

      • Samigirl says:

Cloris Leachman or Estelle Getty are who I always picture as Grandma Mazure. Especially the latter, may she Rest In Peace. I love DR, but she’s not my Grandma Mazur.

      • buell says:

Cloris Leachman would’ve made a fantastic Grandma Mazur too.

    • Sapphire says:

I’ll give two stars for the jokes-Ha, ha. And Ranger wasn’t bad.

  11. Jayna says:

When is 12.6 million a flop? Wow. It was never projected to come in first or second place. I think those are respectable numbers for that movie.

Dissing her for bringing mom along. Another wow. Maybe grandma is there to help with the baby.

    • mia135 says:

It’s ‘cos the grandma is ALWAYS around whenever the two of them are out together, even when the baby isn’t with them.

I think Katherine limits herself when it comes to her career. She said once that she is only interested in doing rom-coms because she doesn’t think she is a great actress and doesn’t aspire to be. Maybe if she stepped outside her comfort zone she may surprise herself.

  12. samira677 says:

No her career isn’t over. I don’t know why people throw this around after a couple of failed movies. I think Heigl and Fox can’t get away with bashing their films because they say it very seriously. In the few comments I’ve seen from Robert Patterson he has a sense of humor about it. He knows they’re are bad but still grateful for the work, fame, and fan support. Heigl and Fox don’t show any respect at all.

    • Freakieness says:

Yeah, he seems more hearthlighted with his comments, but I think so many people let it pass because they also hate the Twilight franchise

  13. The Truth Fairy says:

She reminds me of Ashley Judd – same bitchy attitude and they even look similar. Ashley’s career also tanked based on how rude and difficult she was. Like Katherine, she also made some poor movie choices.

One thing about Hollywood: there’s always another starlet on your heels waiting to trample over you and take the lead when you fall.

    • kibbles says:

Yep, Ashley Judd’s career definitely went south and I don’t see her making a comeback anytime soon. I can see the similarities between Judd and Heigl. Both are limited in terms of actual talent and have earned bad reputations. Heigl seems to be a bit more likable than Judd though. I think she has a fighting chance to maintain her career and remain in the spotlight. Judd has been completely forgotten. I wouldn’t even call Judd c-list since she doesn’t seem to be making movies anymore.

      • Azurea says:

I’ve been seeing a commercial for a new show Ashley Judd has the lead in, though I can’t remember the name off the top. If the clips used from the show are the best they could come up with, it looks laughably bad. Her over-acting is hilarious, better suited to a cartoon-like satire than a drama thriller/mystery.

  14. Asli says:

Yup, the double standard is alive and well.

And Scarlett Johanssen? Really? I’d think she was on Heigl’s level of obnoxious-ness.

  15. ginnylynne says:

I actually saw the movie this past Friday as I’m a HUGE fan of the books. I’ve been sure for a good while now that Katherine Heigl would do nothing but mess this movie up…she is SO not Stephanie Plum! That being said, I have to give it to her, she did a great job and made me believe her as the character. There was a bunch of chemistry with the guy playing Morelli but could not believe the disappointment in the actor playing Ranger.

    • Samigirl says:

I agree. Daniel Sunjata (or whatever) is really pretty, and I was excited about him…but he wasn’t a great ranger. I didn’t think the movie was great, but Steph and Joe did have great chemistry.

      • buell says:

I know that Ranger calls her babe in the books but when he said it in the movie…. it made me want to punch a kitten. He was so horribly miscast.

    • Petunia says:

I saw the trailer and was disappointed that there was NOTHING Jersey (and I don’t meant the typecast “Snooki” version of Jersey) about Heigl’s character. Stephanie is very definitely a product of Jersey but Heigl’s portrayal seemed more like a girl off a dairy farm from the Midwest, at least judging by the trailer.

    • Sunnyjyl says:

I agree. She pulled it off, and it was a fun movie to watch. Oh, and I took my mom.

    • Samigirl says:

LOL@Buell and punch a kitten. Hilarious.

  16. kibbles says:

Her style screams “uptight diva”. She needs a completely new makeover both in terms of her fashion as well as her personality. Some of you have criticized Reese Witherspoon for trying to change her image but sometimes it is desperately needed when an aging starlet has had a spate of bad reviews, box office bombs, and an image problem.

No, her career isn’t necessarily over but I agree that her career has definitely taken a step backward since leaving Grey’s. Publicly stating that she wanted to get back on Grey’s was a mistake on her part. She needs a new manager asap. Doing that made her look incredibly desperate.

Heigl isn’t a good actress but neither are a lot of A-list stars who ended up with Oscars. It all depends on an actress’s attitude, popularity, and choice in films. Heigl needs to take a break and look for a really good role in either a mainstream or independent film. The same thing was happening to her The Ugly Truth co-star Gerard Butler. He was turning out some horrible romcoms that he has admitted could have ended his career. Now he is trying to get back on track with some meaty dramatic roles.

Yes, there is some sexism involved and I think the public and critics are much more forgiving of men who make the same mistakes. Heigl is still much to blame for her poor career decisions. I don’t really see her ever getting to the same level as Sandra, Reese, Julia – and I don’t believe any of these women are incredibly good actresses although they have more of the “IT” factor which Heigl lacks imo. But I think she can make a comeback of sorts and remain a solid B actress if she picks the right films or shows.

  17. mel says:

I like her…she looks way older than she is because she doesn’t know how to dress right for her. My friends and I are all going to see the movie…how bad can it be?

  18. Petunia says:

I’m not sure that this is Heigl’s fault at all. This series was immensely popular for YEARS but its fans HATED the last two books (actually few people like the ones after #12 but the last two especially have ruined it for many readers.) In other words, a lot of the people who WOULD have gone to the movie refused to go, thanks to the author’s allowing main character Stephanie to have sex with two of her boyfriends with no regret – and within the same week. It’s interesting to read the reviews written about the 17th and 18th books in the series (via Amazon) to get a feel for how angry Evanovich’s fans are. If I were Janet, I’d be reading those reviews and taking note. I think she may have killed the goose that laid the golden egg.

    • Petunia says:

Although I do maintain that if you’re gonna do a film about a certain area that has a certain ethnic feel to it, you should attempt to recreate the ethnic feel via, which Heigl didn’t do (nor did the rest of the characters or the look of the film.)

    • Happy21 says:

I think the last one I read was 15. I have thought the last few to be WAAAYYY too over the top. I’ve found the characters extremely annoying and just plain stupid! I’ve found Lula to be the stupidest of them all as of late and I LOVED them up until about 12 or 13. I’m not too sure if the books have changed that much or whether my taste has improved.

That being said, the movie was cast totally wrong. KH is not Stephanie and I like KH. I swore up and down I would not see this movie but I am curious to see how much the f-ed it up. If there is nothing else to see and I feel like going to a movie I might just check it out.

    • Hautie says:

      My bias opinion.

I find all the hate about the Plum books, odd. I love the series and I have read up to the latest one. (18)

Nor do I get all the screaming about the relationships between Plum and her men.

So what if Plum has shagged Ranger and Morelli within days of each other. It is a BOOK. A silly fiction book. That I enjoy reading.

Then again I do not use silly fiction books, as my personal moral compass.

I get enough of the uptight morality police behavior from Fox News.

I do not need to hear, how I am a bad Christian, for enjoying a silly little book about a fictional character.

Because… OMG!!!! that girl done shagged two men in the same week.

Again. It is a fiction book.

And I hate what Grandma Mazur looked like in the movie. A woman with a face lift covered in a Mac force-field of makeup. And seriously, Debbie Reynolds just over acts.

(Yes, I saw the movie. It was not brutally bad.)

      • RobN says:

I had a nice, well reasoned response to your post but what it boils down to is this, get over yourself.

People like to see characters act in a manner which is consistent with all that came before, and the latter books do not do that. That bothers people with an attachment to the character.

And why are you dragging Christianity and Fox News into your post? Neither one has any relation to this issue.

  19. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:

I find KH refreshing for her up front honesty and candor – you know where you stand with her at least. SB has things in her closet – I don’t think any of america’s “sweethearts” are as sweet as they pretend to be.

    • joe says:

So do I. Honnestly. Plus, I totally agree with the things she said.
Why… isb’t a woman allowed to say the truth – Men are being honnest. Women are bad-mouthing.

  20. Gal says:

My standard comment on a KH story: Poor Josh.

    • Little Darling says:

You know, I am amazed at his “amazing” devotion to her, the way he smiles with her, makes her smile too, and his complete and total devotion to her. So while I think “poor Josh” I oftentimes wonder what it is about her that had his unwavering support and love. He seems like a catch to me, and is probably the ONLY thing that softens her at all!

  21. NM6804 says:

That Kelley is admirable, his wife is a mama’s child and brings her mother everywhere and there he is: happy and in love. Most men would go nuts by the weekly annoying visits and he has the endure his mother in law all the time! Not to mention Heigl’s hair, mother in law hair.

  22. Dee Cee says:

I’d rather watch her fail with what she had to work with, a lousy script.. but she was amusing, comic, pretty and gutsy.. than Carmen Jen A and SJP..

  23. corny says:

She has to lose the one of the guys attitude and she can be quite striking, better in acting and looks than Aniston, who is everyone’s sweetheart-burn.

    • Petunia says:

Jen is pretty, yes. Beautiful hair and figure, average face. But she is LAME as an actress. Very lame. I WANT to like her as an actress because she seems sweet but I can’t. She’s just vanilla pudding in a world of mascarpone.

  24. mln76 says:

NY Mag talks to insiders for their career assessments so however harsh this is THIS is what people in the studios are saying about her. No studio is going to give her a huge check to star in a film so if she wants to work she’ll have to do a series. She was much more compelling as Izzie anyway.

    • Petunia says:

I’ve never understood what is “wrong” with starring in a good tv series, anyway. Some of the shows have fantastic writing and acting. And of course, the actors get good, steady paychecks. A lot of up-and-coming actors would DIE for the chance. A smarter Heigl would have kept her mouth shut and held onto the role until she was completely sure that the movie career would work.

      • lucy2 says:

I agree she jumped ship way too soon and for the wrong reasons. I think some actors and others still have the movies-are-superior-to-TV bias, but I think it’s silly. As you said, there are some great roles and performances out there on TV, especially with all the cable shows now.

      • mln76 says:

It really comes down to ego. Heigl is just another in a long list of talented TV actors/actresses that sought out horrid movies rather than return to the ‘indignity’ of TV.

  25. Petunia says:

I just read Celebitchy’s original review of the movie and it sounds like there are a lot of relevant points made. The casting of Grandma Mazur was completely wrong for the reason CB gives. As CB suggested, Cloris Leachman (or Betty White) would have been a far more appropriate choice. In the trailer, Heigl just didn’t nail “Jersey” and didn’t look it, either. Jersey is big hair, fancy nails, makeup and tight clothes. Not saying that Stephanie is all of that, but that’s the overall look to Jersey women. And casting an Irish actor as Morelli????? No no no! No no no!

    • Jules says:

Oh Petunia…that is the stereotype of “the overall look to Jersey women”. I was born and still reside in Jersey.
I haven’t had big hair since the early 90’s. None of us have…except maybe some of the older Italian mothers. I rarely run into anyone that looks like Peg Bundy. Sorry to burst your bubble.

      • lucy2 says:

Thank you! I don’t know why that stereotype stuck, but I haven’t seen anyone who looks like that in about 20 years.

  26. hillbilly in the corner says:

    Guess what ladies…
I like her, she reminds me a all the great old time hollywood stars before they started stamping them out like cookie cutters in the same pattern…she has her own look, her own style and is not afrasid to say what needs to be said and kiss asses to move her career along I have followed her career from the time she was on that tv series..Roswell ….. unfortunaley for her Hollywood doesn’t want real woman in their movies they want skinny assed barbie dolls and boobs and no brains ..fluff balls who are none treatening to male egos… Don’t fold under pressure Kathrine bee yourself…there is very few woman in hollywood that are not interchanagable without noticing the difference…

  27. JudyJudyJudy says:

I have not actually seen her in anything.

  28. Just my opinion says:

I used to watch Greys and loved her untill she started to come across like she was too big of a movie star to be in a show like that. That kind of attitude in actors turns me off big time. I have seen a couple of the movies she did after Greys and they were entertaining enough. I enjoyed them. However I read this series of Stephanie Plum books and the first 7 or 8 are great, the next 5 or 6 are getting old and the last 4 or 5 you just want to get over with. The theme of the books never changes. blundering bounty hunter, always 1 or 2 FTA’s she can’t catch, eats fast food and bags of donuts, can’t choose between the two guys in her life. Every book is the same…. Even grama mazur gets old after 10 or 12 books.. I think anyone who ever read this series would never go watch the movie because none of us want to go see 17 more movies all of the same thing..

Personally, I find the status of her romantic getaway (AKA, her relationship with her hubby) just a scoge more pressing than the status of her career, but that’s just me.

Anyway, I so thought this was a recycled photo, because I swear, just about every photo I see of her with her husband always includes her mother! I thought for sure I’d seen this photo before! So sad.

  30. Ash says:

That might help explain why she has been saying she would be open to coming back onto Gray’s Anatomy. Probably hoping to score a PR boost and a career revival. But I am pretty sure she bit off the hand that fed her.

    • Hautie says:

I bet Shonda Rhimes laughed her ass off, when that quote made it to her.

After all Heigl did to get out of that contract for Grey’s. From bad mouthing the writers to forcing the firing of both Isiah Washington and **TR Knight.

Does she really think anyone would allow her to return? Especially Shonda? hahahaha! Yea, I don’t see it happening.

And if I recall correctly, Heigl was furious that her character was not given a spin off show.

That Kate Walsh ended up with the new show instead. And from that point on Heigl made everyone’s life a living hell.

(**And I know TR Knight contract was not renewed. And he was killed off on the show. But it all goes back to the Heigl and her mouth.)

  31. LeManda says:

Though I’ll never claim to be a Heigl fan I don’t think any problem with this movie should be directed to her. They cast the lead WRONG! It should have never been Heigl in the first place. Actually many of the charters aren’t well represented. Any money loss blame should rest on the studio and casting director’s shoulders.

  32. the original bellaluna says:

The problem is that no one wanted to see this movie, especially after casting was announced.

And KH won’t be going back to a network TV career, not after how she publicly bad-mouthed Grey’s Anatomy. I certainly wouldn’t hire her.

  33. TheOriginalVictoria says:

Love love love the books! My college roommate turned me on to them back in 2003. But you know what, I can’t stand that bitch Katherine.

I will NEVER forget how she helped campaigned to get Isaiah Washington fired (and she did by pretty much badmouthing him every chance she got). She was out of line and out of place, and I was glad that her nasty attitude more or less got her the boot. The way she spoke about a situation that HAD NOTHING to do with her and painted someone as a homophobic (I really hate that word because they will stamp it on anyone and i’s the new “race card”) bully really enraged me.

Since then, I haven’t even watched Grey’s Anatomy because I refuse to give them my ratings (though I’ll occasionally watch online).

I used to love her on Roswell and thought she was a pretty good actress.

    • Jayna says:

I keep hoping they will bring Isaiah back and spice up Sandra Oh’s storyline and the show. It’s gotten a little stale and needs a shakeup.

    • Iggles says:

      Agreed!

I miss Burke on GA 🙁 I was so annoyed at how they hastily got rid of him that I stopped watching.

Unfortunately, as much as I can’t stand this woman I love her as Izzie. I know they will never take her back, but it would be hilarious if she came back now that her career faltered with her tail between her legs.. I love Alex and Izzie, and would love to see that pairing again!

I want Burke back too, dammit! It’s been like 5 years. The actor isn’t homophobic and did his best to make amends! (When the dust settled, even Perez Hilton apologized to Mr. Washington for labeling him a homophobe!) They should bring the character back!

-end of Grey’s Anatomy rant- 😆

  34. xxx says:

if i were her, i would searching for an other career like alba did in her last 5 minutes as a b-list celebrity. i’m sure she’ll find a company which want to work with her, so she can go to all of those talkshows and bring some attention to it. It doesn’t matter how dumb she is. She can help them to promote some stuff and act like a super serious business-woman which has a clue about what she’s saying.. that’s my advice for her. (sorry for my english..)

  35. Katie says:

Katherine Heigl lost all appeal to me when she started running her mouth about grey’s anatomy. She has never been likable on screen. Ever. And her off screen persona makes it worse. She should have stuck to tv.

  36. Sara says:

I liked her on Gray’s and I liked ‘Knocked up’ and ’27 dresses’ but after that… I dunno, she just seemed so snotty and started making movies that were worse and worse.

It doesn’t surprise me she’s unlikeable. I bet her Q score is terrible.

  37. Shelly says:

I like Katherine and find her movies entertaining in a mindless sort of way. But she’s made no movies that I can’t wait until they come on HBO or the like to watch.

  38. Cali says:

It drives me crazy that the woman made a flip comment about working long hours and she’s suddenly an a-hole. She is funny, gorgeous and i love her movies. If a man said this crap – it’s totally “refreshing” of him for being honest. Anyone catch the crap that David Cross said about his last movie? Bashing the producers, the experience, and telling people NOT to see it? Nope, probably not. Because the media just looks the other way when it’s a man. Katherine is lovely and I hope she has a long career. and that people get OVER the crap she said how many years ago now…. Let’s support women, not tear them down over a flip remark or for being honest.

    • lucy2 says:

The problem was, it wasn’t just one flip comment. She complained several times about Grey’s, and then about at least 2 of the films she did, from what I remember. If something is really wrong, by all means stand up for yourself and say something, but continually bad mouthing everything (for a job that most would kill to have) gets old fast.
I have heard what Cross has said – I can’t blame him for being annoyed about the whole cruise thing, but I think he also is acting unprofessionally by going beyond that. It’s been pretty well publicized too.

    • Lucy says:

I didn’t watch her on Greys Anatomy…I first saw her in Knocked Up…loved that movie! After it came out and she became much more famous than she had been…she started bashing the role in Knocked Up that had thrust her into movie stardom land…it was a nasty move on her part…and for all the people making comments about how can her hubby stand having her mom around…Maybe the mom is nice…you never know…

  39. michelle says:

What was wrong with her Emmy speech? It didn’t sound uppity to me.

  40. Diane says:

Who’s advising her on her script choices…her mother? I’d say they’re about on par with her talent, on a par with local dinner theatre. She peaked in her first role as an alien in Roswell.

  41. Coucou says:

Her look here is so upper crust matronly, it’s so NOT cool, man, it’s aggressively uncool, like she’s doing it on purpose – stranger how her man looks cool, he should help her dress.

  42. Rux says:

    Let it be true….PLEASE!

  43. Ally says:

As soon as I saw the trailer, I thought “This is Heigl’s version of Aniston’s The Bounty Hunter.”

    Turns out I was right!

  44. Nancypie says:

I am a fan of the books, and I was disappointed when I saw that KH was paying Stephanie Plum, cuz I didn’t think she was right for the part. But I thought she pulled it off and i enjoyed the movie. I hope they make more.

  45. original sandy says:

please let her go away quietly, just drop off the radar with dignity.

  46. Fabster says:

Okay, I have to call bullshit on “Yet when women like Katherine or Megan do it, well screw them, right?” remark.

First of all, to say that R-Patz is “widely celebrated” is one hell of a stretch to make your point. Being praised by a site like Pajiba does not make you ‘widely celebrated’.

Pattinson is a joke, and he’s perceived and treated like one. Once the twilight franchise is over, his career is going to die down.

Fox and Heigl are not being screwed because they’re women. They’re being screwed because they’re idiots.

Sandra Bullock and Charlize Theron, for example, have both criticized films they have starred in it, and yet their career wasn’t hurt by that.

I’m sorry if my writing is bad, english is not my first language.

  47. Hawk says:

Fire your Momager ASAP Katherine and get new people before you wind up back on syndicated TV.

  48. Ash says:

I agree with Fabster – you can’t compare her to Robert Pattinson.

She has crapped on several commercially and more importantly, critically successful projects. The Twilight movies are reviled by critics. So it’s hard to compare the two when they’re not working with material on the same level of quality.

And this is coming from someone who really dislikes her and hated Knocked Up.
