Katherine Heigl’s Leroux gown & grandmother hair: over-styled or lovely?

These are some new photos of Katherine Heigl at last night’s NYC premiere of One for the Money, the first (and hopefully last?) adaptation of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum-bounty-hunter series. I cannot even begin to describe how AWFUL this movie looks, or what a terrible casting choice Dame Heigl was for the Plum role. And here’s a telling sidenote: considering how Jersey-centric the stories are, did it not occur to anyone to do the premiere IN New Jersey?

But let’s just concentrate on how Heigl looked at the premiere – she wore this full-on Herve L. Leroux gown which… eh. It looks like a dress Heigl could have worn to the Golden Globes, and on the red carpet for her premiere, it just seems overblown. Too goddessy. That being said, it’s a pretty enough dress, and Heigl’s body looks good. Her styling is another matter altogether. What is Heigl’s consistent styling problem? She always wears way too much makeup, and her hair is always a grandmother-approved wreck. Plus, I couldn’t swear to it, but she looks tweaked to me. It could just be the shovel-full of makeup, though.

Let’s get back to the movie – how terrible. My biggest concern, though, is that it WON’T bomb. That it will actually make money and they’ll think about making another one.

I like it. I think she looks great.

  2. Katie says:

When is she not over styled? Her arrogance makes her unattractive.

  3. Mimi says:

Overstyled. Why does she always look so sallow to me?

  4. TeamElton says:

I find it amusing that she has almost been begging to get back on Grey’s. She wants them to know that she is “open” to it LOL. Seriously she has already bitten the hand that was feeding her. She’s not that great an actress seriously, she should have held onto that job on Grey’s, instead of shooting off her mouth.

    • Petunia says:

Not so sure that Grey’s will take her back after refusing to nominate herself for an Emmy because the writing wasn’t good enough. Way to jettison your career, girl!

Don’t like the hair, like the dress if you could take off the silly strap. Nice color and fit.

    • Capella says:

Yeah, it has taken her a while before admitting that being ungracious in Hollywood does not pay off.

I don’t mind the over-the-top dress, she has the figure. I can get over the granny weave. I can even get over the borderline clown-ish make-up.

But I cannot get over the Old-Vegas-Stripper silver shoes, with the CLASHING toe red nail polish. I. Just. Can. not.

  5. Jackie says:

she needs a new stylist. so dated and awful.

  6. Bamster says:

like a pin-up girl, I like it! What a ham.

  7. Charlotte says:

aaand just like that she’s back to annoying.

  8. Eleonor says:

I like it, for the tweaking I don’t know, she has that awful ducklips maybe now she is on botox too.

  9. mel says:

Can’t wait to see the movie…I like her as an actress. I’m probably in the minority..oh well.

    • vicky says:

I agree with you. She is a good actress and I’m looking forward to the movie. I’m not sure about the Ranger casting. The guy is gorgeous but not the Ranger type.

  10. shane says:

I wont go and see this movie, but I will say that I thought it would look much worse than it does. It looks like it is supposed to be a light weight movie made to entertain with that formulaic blend of adventure and romance. I think it may bomb because we dont care for her prickly personality, but not because it looks worse than any other movie made in this vein.

  11. PAgirl says:

I’ve read the first three books in the series this movie is based off of, and I have mixed feelings. The books were lightweights, for sure – fairly entertaining, but not particularly well written. I’m not sure I’d be interested in seeing the movie since I’ve already read the book, but it might be entertaining for someone who doesn’t already know what’s going to happen.

That aside, I’m loving the dress, and her bod is slammin’.

    • Sarah says:

Yeh, the books were trashy but fun – and it looks like the movie is going to be the same. Given that I read them long enough ago to have forgotten the plot, I think I may very well go and see this.

  12. Dusty says:

Nice to see a lady in the media that doesn’t come across as Hollywood Trash. The worst thing that happened to our modern day world is “casual days” – you can find slobs on every corner. Class…either you have it or you don’t!

  13. akku says:

She looks beautiful, elegant and classy. This is one actress who is not a trash. Stylish in whatever she wears

  14. lucy2 says:

I like that dress quite a bit. That’s the best she’s looked in a while, she usually is a mess.
A few of my friends LOVE these books are so excited for the movie, so I started listening to them on audio, they’re mindless enough I can work while listening. But I’m starting to think Stephanie might be the dumbest character ever.

    • Petunia says:

The books are fun in a “ha ha,” Three Stooges kind of way, which I happen to enjoy. But a lot of fans think that Stephanie hasn’t aged too well in some of the newer books.

      • lucy2 says:

Yeah, I’m currently on book 10, and it’s bugging me that she doesn’t seem to have learned anything. She makes the same stupid mistakes over and over, and it takes away from the fun aspects of it.

  15. Cathy says:

I think she looks good. The dress is pretty and her hair is done nice. I don’t think her makeup was overdone.

  16. cmc says:

I don’t see how the movie could be any better or worse with a different actress. It looks mindless, terrible, and fun, just like the series. Sounds like they stayed true to the (badly-written but charming) books.

    • Petunia says:

Really? I had expected Stephanie to have some ethnicity about her, being 1/2 Italian and from New Jersey. Heigl doesn’t even give her a Jersey accent. No Italian gestures with the hands. Doesn’t look or sound like I imagine Stephanie. Don’t mean that she might not be good in the role but was disappointed that she looked and sounded so far off the mark from what I had expected. Marissa Tomei as a young woman would have been perfect in the role.

      • xxodettexx says:

i had never thought of tomei but that sounds so brilliant [and a better age representation than my dream stephanie which i always read the books as a sandra bullock type!]

  17. Zigggy says:

I know, I’ve been a fan of the books for years but this movie looks sooo bad! And the worst casting ever! That’s not Steph! That’s definitely NOT Morelli! Ugh.

    • Petunia says:

Casting feels off to me, too. Didn’t feel like it was Stephanie or Morelli or Ranger. Just “no.” Too bland for Jerseyites. (The Lula character kind of measured up to what I’d imagined, though.)

    • kim says:

I’m a fan of the books too! But the first problem was that it was made into a movie. It should have been a TV show. It doesn’t help that the casting was a sh!t show of the highest order.

  18. Nev says:

she looks good I think. really like her personality.

  19. JessSaysNo says:

This is classic Katherine Heigl! I think she looks beautiful and I don’t think its grandma hair at all.

  20. Kimlee says:

The movie looks funny want to see it and I think she looks great I see how she over styled.

  21. Lila says:

She looked a lot better on The View the other day. A lot less styled, simple hair. Plus seeing her interact with her kid, who appeared to adore her mommy, humanized her. She should definitely revise her PR strategy along those lines.

  22. Lindy says:

I think she is working it here. With her coloring I’d rather see her in a softer shade–that bright red is a little harsh. But she looks good here. I think she’s got the right personality to pull that film role off, too. I plan to see it.

  23. original kate says:

her hair is the color of snow that’s been peed on.

  24. I Choose Me says:

I’ve never been a fan of Heig’s personality but I think she looks amazing here (well aside from the hair). She’s a good actress imho and she always seems to have on-screen chemistry with her male leads. This movie looks like good, light-hearted fun, so I just might see this.

  25. xxodettexx says:

i love the color and cut of the dress… but as for the movie: i am getting more and more depressed the more previews i see for it! in my head, stephanie was a blue-eyed sandra bullock [in younger years but still!]… stephanie plum to me is like an imaginery friend to me at this point with my obsession with those books… and beyond the miscasting of heigl [whom i loved on gray’s anatomy btw] there is a huge fail [IMHO} of ranger, lula and morelli… i mean, these characters are almost the heart of the series!! ranger is supposed to be like monstrously hugely hot [like the rock or rambo type], lula is just wrong wrong WRONG!

    aarrrgghhh, okay rant over…

  26. Aqua says:

I wish her all the best with this movie I really do but their is absolutely no shame in going back to T.V.lots of movie stars have done it and have been quite successful with it.

  27. Psyren says:

Love the dress, not fond of the shoes. Or her.

  28. Erin says:

homegirl’s body looks slamming in that dress, but it is a bit fancy for a movie premiere.

  29. Jayna says:

    Gorgeous.
