Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48

Whitney Houston’s rep has just confirmed the sad news – Whitney has passed away at the age of 48. The cause of death is unknown. Whitney had been famous for going on three decades – her powerful, beautiful voice was nurtured in gospel choirs and then in 1980s, she went pop and R&B. Throughout her music career, she won six Grammys and 22 American Music Awards. Her cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” is one of the most popular songs of all time.

Whitney Houston has died. She was 48.

The singing superstar’s publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that Houston died, but did not reveal the cause of death.

Earlier this week, the singer, a six-time Grammy winner, was spotted having a night out on the town in L.A. at “Kelly Price & Friends Unplugged: For The Love Of R&B Grammy Party” at Tru Hollywood.

[From People Magazine]

Unfortunately, Whitney’s death is likely drug-related. I’m not saying that to be nasty – Whitney had openly struggled with addiction for many, many years. Her tell-all interview with Oprah several years ago was particularly eye-opening for the information she gave about the length of her addiction issues, and the extent. On Friday, many sites ran with photos of Whitney leaving a club in LA, looking bloody, disheveled and wasted – you can see those photos here.

Whitney is survived by her only child, daughter Bobbi Christina, who turns 19 years old next month. It’s also believed that Whitney was currently dating Ray J, for what it’s worth. Our thoughts and prayers to Whitney’s family, friends and loved ones.

UPDATE: Radar claims that Whitney died at the Beverly Hilton. She was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM PST. Bobby Brown is in Memphis and is said to be “struggling and devastated.” Bobbi Kristina is in Los Angeles reportedly. Also, some sources are claiming that Ray J found Whitney’s body, but Ray J’s rep says he wasn’t there.

    Poor thing. RIP Whitney.

    • Tommaso says:

We will always love you, Whitney. Kids, don’t EVER do crack.

      • Carolyn says:

Agree. I’m both shocked yet not surprised. Drugs are bad things.

      • Kyle says:

RIP Whitney. No more “I wanna smoke crack with somebody!”.

      • dean travers says:

For the last time IT WASN’T crack…jeez. Crack is whack from the horse’s mouth. Freebase coke + everything under the sun.She enjoyed it, she was honest about it, and many with her talents are destined supernovas. It’s sad. Also inevitable frequently. Drugs didn’t define her but they were part of her..that’s life. We were all lucky to have a lil Whitney in our lives.

    • Newtsgal says:

      HOLY SHIT!!!
I did not see this one coming, I can’t believe this.
Now Lindsay Lohan dead at fashion week I could have believed that before the death of Miss Whitney
      🙁

      • OriginalTiffany says:

Exactly what I thought. That cockroach goes on living while talented people like MJ die.
I felt weird when I saw the pics of her partying at Dlisted the other night.
Not the celeb death I saw coming!
And the Grammys are tomorrow night. So sad.

      • E Train says:

Whitney had been strung out on crack for almost as long as LL has been alive. Of course she died first–drugs aren’t discriminate and they take their tole over so many years. Of course LL could easily be next of she doesn’t get some real help, which sadly doesn’t seem likely. Drugs kill talent, dreams, and people, without any consideration as to the potential they destroy.

    • polk8dot says:

This is so truly sad. Such a talent, such a wonderful voice…
I hope this good for nothing ex-husband of hers, Booooooooby Brown, gets his rotten soul eaten alive by his conscience. For turning her on to drugs; for being her supplier and enabler for decades; for not caring enough for a woman he was supposed to love to force her into rehabl; for not caring enough for her to force himself into rehab; for letting her waste her money and investmets on drugs and BS, stranding her on the verge of bankruptcy.
He is one evil mofo, and I hope he is proud of himself now for destroying a life, a love, a talent that’s one in a million.
Poor, poor woman. She could have had such a wonderful life, but instead it all turned into such chayotic shi!t the momen she took up with Bobby, and drugs took over her life.
Maybe she can now find some peace. Sad.

      • Cari says:

        You are so right.

      • Jaye says:

Whitney was using loooong before she met Bobby Brown. They helped each other spiral out of control.

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Don’t let Essence trick you into believing she was the driven snow, she was a party girl vet beore she even met Bobby. Sad.

While Bobby holds a PhD in ‘ugh’, I could never get on board with the ‘he ruined her’ stance. He had the rep long beore they married and there’s just no way that she didn’t know it. I just think it’s kind of weak to place all the blame on him and if you’re mature enough to get married and have a child you’re well past the ‘just say no’ stage of life. It’s horrible and sad that the story has ended here, but ultimitely it was her own choice to start to poison herself.

    • Cecila says:

This is so sad my heart goes out to Her daughter, mother,Bobbie Brown and the rest of her family.Whitney will forever be missed such a talent laid to rest to soon

      • Sharon Smith says:

dont forget about he son Nicholas..noone seems to have mentioned him…hes going thru rehab right now

  2. lisa says:

    RIP Whitney.
    Always in our hearts.

  3. layla says:

this has truly shocked me…didn’t see it coming this soon. I thought she had gotten her life together. This can serve as a wake up call to all of us- don’t waste your life/talents. RIP Whitney, and may God be with her daughter and family.

  4. bree says:

    Sad but not unexpected. RIP.

    • iloveretro says:

      Agreed. Rest easy, Whitney.

    • Nancito says:

      So, so sad.

    • DreamyK says:

Agreed. Blind Gossip did a thing on her last month. Whitney wasn’t specifically named at the time, buy most guessed (correctly) that it was her. She was incoherent, not remembering friends names and nodded off at the dinner. Nodding makes me think of heroin. I definitely think it was drug related. Bobbi Kristina, another kid “partying” with her desperately addicted mother. Bobbi has already been caught doing cocaine. She’s 18.

I hope the Grammy’s acknowledge the role that drug abuse played in her career and death, but I doubt it. That’s too bad because active drug addiction can only lead to three things: Jail, Institutions (rehab, hospitals etc..) and Death.

  5. sm255 says:

    No…NO…NO.

I REFUSE to believe this! This is so unbelievably sad…

  6. mel2 says:

and IIIIII will always love uuuuuu! RIP Ms. Houston.

  7. SG says:

    RIP Whitney.

It really shocks and saddens me how young she was. I’ve been listening to her for a long time.

  8. sarah says:

How about we don’t assume that it’s drugs until we get an official cause of death? Either way, I hope she rests in peace.

    • cr says:

Not necessarily from an overdose, but odds are strong that previous drug use may have played a part. That much drug use damages organs. So even if she was clean, she’d still most likely have health problems from the addictions.
Of course it may have had nothing to do with her drug use, but going on her history that’s going to presumed until autopsy says otherwise.

    • LeeLoo says:

She has a history of addiction. Even if we don’t say it out loud, we all know deep down drugs – past or present- somehow played a part in all of this.

  9. LeeLoo says:

I’m shocked and numb. I don’t even know what to say. She was a beautiful person who unfortunately got caught in the tangles of Hollywood. I forgot she and I have the same birthday (except I’m 21 years younger). Her voice was so beautiful. I hope she is at peace now, where ever she is. My deepest sorrows run for her daughter and her mother. RIP, Whitney.

    • Mandy says:

It’s my birthday, as well (1985). When I was a kid, I always thought it was so cool to share a birthday with Whitney, like maybe it would make me just as talented as she was.

This is so tragic. Wasn’t her daughter struggling with some issues of her own last year (drugs and/or self-harming, I think)? Poor girl, I hope she has extra support at a time like this.

      • Cricket says:

Same bday for me too (1979) and I remember dancing to her songs “How will I know” and “I wanna dance with Somebody” when I was young. I always liked her…but unfortunately Bobby Brown happened. She’s now with MJ 😉 and they are having a good time!
        RIP Whitney

      • SolitaryAngel says:

Mine too (1966). I loved her music.

  10. Hypocricy says:

I am shocked and just so sad !

She was my favourite singer after Sade.

Fly and meet the angels forever.

    RIP

  11. Chris says:

This is shocking but not surprising. When a celebrity with a history of substance addictions dies I’m always like yeah well it was only a matter of time. Given how messy she has been for such a long time I’m surprised she made it to 48.

    • polk8dot says:

Totally agree. When she was with Bobby, I was expecting her to OD all the time. I was amazed that she eventually got herself cut off from him, too bad it was already too late to do her any good.
      What a wasted life…

  12. Peanut says:

    Too bad.

  13. bagladey says:

This is a shock. I always hoped she would recover and do more. R.I.P.

  14. Boo says:

I’m so sad for her and for her daughter. :O(

    • cr says:

I feel for Bobbi Kristina, a half orphan now. And considering her dad…
I was never a big fan of Whitney’s, but as her descent into drug use became obvious I couldn’t help but feel for her. And she, quite obviously now, could never quite kick it.
It’s sort of the Lohan debacle, it gets to the point where no matter what your original feelings toward them, those feellings are tempered by the sadness of watching them spiral down and seemingly no way of them stopping.

      • LeeLoo says:

CR, while you are right in what you say; the last name I want to hear mentioned right now is Lindsay Lohan. I can’t bring myself to say what is on my mind in regards to any comparison.

      • Raven says:

I second your comment, cr. I hope Lindsay sobers up enough to have this sink in. Whitney’s gone for good–no more rehabs or chances.

        What a waste.

  15. Gine says:

So sad. I always hoped she’d be able to get it together and make a real comeback. She was so beautiful and talented.

  16. kazoo says:

It’s so weird how a stranger’s death can affect you so much. I’m sitting here watching CNN’s coverage and crying. I grew up with her music, her voice was just like an angel…the first cassette tape (remember those?! I ever owned was her first album. God. I feel so terrible for her daughter and the rest of her family. Such a talented woman. If it was drug-related, it’s just a testament to how some people can never escape their demons, regardless of however much money, talent, and greatness they possess.

    • Hypocricy says:

I have the same reaction as you just outer shock, i yell, thenb cries.

Aaliyah, Michael and now Whitney have had a great impact in my life. They were like guardian angels whose voice, songs, lyrics inspire me and accompanied through various periods of my life.

Their death was/is very shocking to me, like they were part of my family.

    • mssnarnd says:

I feel the same way. I have her ALBUMS out in my garage! I’ve been texting a couple of my friends from high school (the 80s), and we all feel so sad.

We all knew about her struggles with drugs, but it doesn’t take away from how shocking it is when a life ends.

  17. Soooo sad… I loved her in The Bodyguard. I thought she was so beautiful and her cover of “I Will Always Love You” was my fave song as a pre-teen. I wish she wouldn’t have gone out like this.

  18. Amy says:

Out of all the celebrity deaths the past couple of years (along with Michael Jackson), this has surprised me the most. I guess I just assumed Whitney was no longer using drugs and in a better place ever since she divorced Bobby Brown. It’s so hard to wrap my mind around.

    • aprayerforthewildatheart says:

I thought the same. I guess I blamed her problems on him, and thought she’d be fine as long as he wasn’t in her life. I feel so sorry for their daughter, she never really had as much of her mom as she deserved.

  19. Vanden says:

Poor Whitney. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones. Especially her daughter. An amazing talent, wasted.

  20. Nan209 says:

She was one of the voices of my youth, silenced long ago by drugs. It’s so sad. I hope her family is able to turn to each other during this time.

Those pictures are horrifying to see. The poor woman’s middle is swollen like her liver was enlarged.

  21. jc126 says:

    So sad. RIP Whitney.

I strongly believe she wouldn’t have gone down the road of drug addiction if not for Bobby Brown, and I think he kept her high to control her all those years and get her money. A prime example of how bad a “bad boy” can be, and why one’s choice of mate can ruin your whole life.

    • LeeLoo says:

What’s the point in blaming Bobby Brown at this point? It doesn’t bring her back. Addiction sucks. Becoming an addict sucks, and Whitney was no ordinary addict. She was Whitney f***ing Houston, she had the miraculous voice of an angel! But addiction is indiscriminate and will hit anyone for any reason. You can’t even blame the person or the people who gave her drugs for the first time or the people the addicts surround themselves with. It won’t get you anywhere. Blame addiction, whether you want to believe it to be a disease or a choice. It’s better to just look at it for what it is, addiction. There’s no why. It just is.

      • bitta83 says:

While I admire your compassion, I disagree with you Lee. The disease model of addiction creates this fatalistic determinism that in my opinion can complicate someone’s ability to overcome a serious drug problem. It used to be that we called it a “drug habit” -habit being a word that was more ordinary, less medically esoteric. By using the term addiction as if it’s this monster-like virus, to blame “the addiction” (and not the drug suppliers or the addict herself) we would be erasing accountability of the user not just to others, but most importantly, to herself. Drug addiction is a tough matter, and it takes a lot of heart to deal with an addict, which your compassionate comments seem to indicate about you -that you have a lot of heart. But frankly, it also takes A LOT of accountability, for the sake of everyone involved. Honestly I have no scorn for Whitney, but I feel we shouldn’t gloss over the ugly truth.

      • LeeLoo says:

Don’t get me wrong Britta. I agree with you 100% and I am not trying to follow the disease model, I too strongly disagree with it. It’s just that when a person dies it is easy to blame those who the addict surrounded themselves with, the person who influenced them into drugs, etc. At this point, while we can learn from Whitney’s struggle, I fail to see what good it does to find others to blame. In the case when someone dies, it’s about that person and blaming others in addiction, in my opinion is extremely unhealthy and unwise. You’re absolutely right, it takes a lot of accountability on the addicted person. However, I have a problem with holding others accountable for another person’s addiction. It is a dangerous and enabling tactic. When someone dies from their addiction, we should not hesitate to discuss it. At the same time, Whitney’s life was more than her addiction. I can acknowledge her addiction while celebrating her life as a whole. I would rather spend the time celebrating her life and her accomplishments than discuss her addiction and the reasons for it. There will come a time to discuss her addiction in greater detail. I just don’t think now is the time. But that is my opinion.

      • bitta83 says:

you make some great points LeeLoo, esp:
“However, I have a problem with holding others accountable for another person’s addiction. It is a dangerous and enabling tactic.”

Addictions…so complicated…I do think think there is something to the old saying “be careful the company you keep”.

Putting all of that aside I feel terrible for her daughter and especially for her mother who had to watch her daughter die over the course of decades and will now have to bury her child. Awful.

Hope you are well LeeLoo. Good night 🙂

      • LeeLoo says:

Thanks Britta, I am quite well and I agree with that saying as well. I firmly believe that certain people and/or situations will escalate any person’s situation. Someone who is an addict is more sensitive to these sorts of things.

Her poor mother, I keep getting tears in my eyes when I think of Cissy who fought so hard to help her daughter beat this. I can only imagine her devastation. No parent should ever bury their child, especially in these circumstances.

      • Asli says:

I think Jermaine Jackson said it best on the CNN coverage.

      • LeeLoo says:

Yeah he did. So did Lionel Richie.

    • Jay says:

Some interview she did she said that she got together with Bobby Brown because they’re more alike than people thought. I don’t think he got her into it, he just wasn’t the kind of guy who’d get her out of it.

    • valleymiss says:

Unfortunately from the whispers I’d read over the years, she was already into stuff before she took up with Bobby. Being with him probably made things worse…but she was already using before him.

    • cameron says:

I wish PPl would stop blaming Bobby Brown. Remember Bobby was only a 21 year old punk when the much older Whitney hooked-up. I tend to believe him when he said she introduced him to coke and he was just a pot head when they met. I believe Whitney was a willing partner and they spiraled downward together.

I like others thought she got her act together.

It’s all water under the bridge at this point. I wish the best for her daughter.

      • Jaded says:

Agree, she was a piece of work before she even met Bobby, her carefully contrived “sweet young thing” persona that her publicity people put forward was just that, a persona, not the real Whitney. She had some bad demons insider her. Rest in peace Whitney, you’re in good hands now.

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Exactly. He was an enabler, not a murderer and certainly not a time machine whose powers could travel back to the before they met and coniscate her stash. There had to be some reciprocity there, not just one person’s fault. Maybe she enabled him, too.

  22. Babette says:

So heartbreaking. She used to be so vibrant and full of promise. I’ll never forget “One Moment in Time”, a song she did for one of the Olympics…it’s one of the most beautiful and inspiring songs I’ve ever heard. Prayers for her soul, and prayers for comfort to her loved ones.

  23. Whatever says:

    This can’t be..it just can’t be.

  24. sosuzy says:

devastaed …whitney was a big part of my tween/teen years no words

  25. Asli says:

I did not expect this. I’m so shocked. I have no words. So much talent is gone forever. I always thought she would find the strenght to come out on top. The first songs I ever listened to was by Whitney, can still remember how my mom played her songs endlessly. What a waste. Several moments of silence for Whitney. Gone much to soon, but we will always love and remember you, Whitney. Rest in peace, your demons are gone now.

  26. aprayerforthewildatheart says:

Watching the coverage is surreal, they’re showing old videos from the 80s. I remember her early career so well, she was amazing, she had so much talent. Waiting to Exhale, ha! such a chick flick, but I watch it every time it comes on no matter what.

RIP, Whitney, you’re in a better place now, and thank you for all the gifts you gave while you were here, and for the ones you left behind…

  27. Lexi says:

She had a beyond EPIC voice… No one else can ever compare. RIP Whitney Houston. You will be incredibly missed!

  28. myTbean says:

    jeez.

that sucks… RIP Whitney… no one will ever really replace you.

  29. Mirella says:

This is so incredibly sad. What an amazing talent. I hope she is resting in peace. Thoughts & prayers to her family & friends.

  30. Gigohead says:

My beloved lady…I will miss you. I LOVED and continue to love Whitney Houston.

  31. Riana says:

Sigh, I have tears in my eyes. This is so sad.

Far too young to be dead, with a young daughter and Sparkle.

Ugh, so this is what it feels like when all your old idols start to pass away.

    Sniff, RIP Whitney.

  32. Paulina says:

So sad, I still can’t believe it. She was one of the most underrated and underappreciated singers ever. Her cover of I will always love you hardly displays what she was capable of, she wasn’t just a balladeer like so many others. The smooth and urban yet touching My love is your love is my favorite song of hers.

  33. Karen says:

My mother could never understand how a woman as beautiful as Whitney who had the public image of an angel, could be with Bobby Brown. To know my mother is to know a woman who thinks the best of everyone. I replied that a public image is carefully crafted to sell a product and that Whitney and Bobby had to have something in common in order to get together.

This is incredibly sad and I hope both Whitney and Bobby’s family come together to support Bobbi Kristina. That girl needs her father to be sober and I will pray for that girl as well.

  34. Ry says:

So sad, she was a great artist who deserved a longer and better life.

  35. Aiobhan says:

Watching now on CNN and thinking that this is just sad. but like the above posters I am shocked but not surprised. My friend from college and I were im’ing when she told me she died. Oddly enough not an hour earlier I was reading about LL and thinking that at least Whitney was straightening herself out. I feel bad for Bobbi-Kristina.

  36. Cheryl says:

So sad. What a waste. My prayers are with her and her family, especially her daughter – i hope she is able to get thought this and come out stronger on the other side. I can’t imagine losing a mom at nineteen. And with bobby as dad…. Ug.

  37. ViktoryGin says:

Wow. I was just washing Fashion Police where they were hapring on her for some disastrous outfit that she was wearing whilst coming out of some establishment with Ray J. And now to think that she is completely extinguished. Suddenly. Completely. LIke someone blowing out a flame on a candle.

    RIP Whitney.

    • polk8dot says:

I too just watched DVR’ed Fashion Police, and then turned my laptop on, and the first thing I see is ‘Whitney is dead’ ???? It was like somebody punched me in the gut. The juxtaposition of having her ribbed on about her outfit 10 min earlier, against her life being over a mere moment later, was just horrible, so painful and SOOOOO SAAAAADDDDD…

  38. DavidBowie says:

I never particularly cared for her music but this makes me sad.

  39. Sacred says:

There was this looming horrible inevitability of this day but I didn’t think it would come this soon. RIP Whitney. I am so sad for her daughter. My world would be over if I lost my mom.

  40. hairball says:

My husband just sent me a text telling me the news. I am sick of hearing of death and people dying. Addiction is a sad, sad thing. Is Lyndsay Lohan taking note of any of this?

Sad most of all for her daughter. No one should have to lose a mother that young in life.

  41. DemoCat827 says:

So very sad. I played the hell out of “I’m Your Baby Tonight” in 1990-91 (while involved with someone I should have left strictly alone). It’s not entirely unexpected, but I had so hoped she had gotten her act together at last. Rumors on Twitter that it was suicide. I hope not. Condolences to her family and friends.

  42. Esmom says:

I first saw her in the pages of Seventeen mag in the 80s…this was before she became famous for her voice. I thought she was so beautiful. Heartbreaking.

  43. Feebee says:

OMG. One of those headlines you can’t help but say No! at even as you know it’s not that surprising.

An unparalleled talent, a cautionary tale. RIP Ms Houston. Such a powerful voice through my life, now silenced. wow.

  44. dragonlady sakura says:

Damn. She was one of the greatest voices of all times and will be missed. I’m proud to say I have every album she ever made and will listen to them and remember greatness.

  45. Paulina says:

So sad, she was such a beautiful and sweet woman. Surprisingly the exact opposite impression she gave late in her life, there’s no doubt in my mind money, fame and the industry changed her. She was so much more subtle despite what her cover of I will always love you made her seem, and she was classy. America should be proud of her. May she finally rest in peace, she will be missed.

  46. Lem says:

Sadly one must hope this to be a serious wake up call for Bobbi Kristina. May she find peace and serenity.
    RIP Whitney

  47. whatthehell456 says:

RIP Whitney, may you find the peace in death that you could not seem find in life. Thoughts and prayers to the ones left behind to grieve.

  48. d says:

Heart failure, is what I’m guessing.

    • Jules says:

Exactly what I was thinking…I doubt she would have overdosed before the Clive Davis party. She probably had a heart attack, or her heart just gave out.

Very, very sad. She ruined her life and voice with drugs.

  49. teri says:

I’m so very sad for her daughter and family. I may be mistaken but wasn’t her daughter Bobbi photographed doing not so good things not long ago? I hope she knows how much her mother loved her and stays away from that stuff.

  50. TheOriginalVictoria says:

What the fuck? I leave for one hour and come back to this?

I refuse to believe it. You mean to tell me Michael AND Whitney AND Don Cornelius are all dead now?

    I can’t…

  51. Charlotte says:

ads under both pics of whitney are for pharmacies in my area – extremely poor taste… huge waste for such a talented singer. when i told my mom the news, she said “that woman had the gift of god in her throat”- i completely agree

  52. Lucy says:

She was so beautiful and so talented…so sad…

  53. Reece says:

I grew up listening to her…Sad. Just so sad right now.
Death really does come in three. Etta James, Don Cornelius, now Whitney. 3 generations of great music and great first-timers and all are now gone.

  54. misstrishm says:

Not only did she have the most beautiful voice she also had a million dollar smile. I just watch her version of the National Anthem and I’m in tears now. RIP Whitney <3

  55. maemay says:

So sad, this is like finding out Princess Diana died via the Internet.

  56. Hootie Hoo says:

Grew up listening to Whitney. This is shocking. 🙁

  57. maryjones says:

So many talented people pass from their demons. Yet that cockroach Hohan lives.

    • LeeLoo says:

I’ve been saying that in my head for about 45 minutes and I am ashamed to have such a thought running through my mind.

      • paola says:

Ladies can i just say i had the same thought but then i realized no one should die that way, not even LLohan, i really hope this is her wake up call and she realizes that she can put her life back on track if she stops pretending and lying to herself, it is never too late to find a way to become clean and stop the drinking and drugs abuse ( and why not… the plastic surgery addiction)
Whitney was the queen of the night, she was unique just like AAliyah, Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse, i’m pretty sure this world will never witness another voice like the one she had.
At least she rocked it for 30 years and is just a waste of talent if you think she could have done so much more!

    • Nessie says:

      @ maryjones # 57:

I understand your grief over her death, but why point it at Lohan? Who is anyone to say who is more deserving of life? I hope you realize this is an unfair comparison to both of them.

Remember the lady who died with respect, but at the same time respect the living as well, even if you don’t agree with their life style or personality……

      • Shelly says:

I agree. Lohan wasn’t always a “cockroach”. Just like Whitney wasn’t always what she became either.

  58. YvetteW says:

I remember Whitney from Gimme A Break with Nell Carter. Who knew that cute young lady would grow into such a powerful voice. The troubles of this world are over. RIP Whitney. Prayers to Bobbi Kris and her family and friends.

  59. apsutter says:

So sad! My mouth dropped open when I read it on Yahoo. Crazy because last night I was just watching “Waiting to Exhale”because they just added it to netflix instant and I love it. Then today I was listening to her while doing housework. They said Jennifer Hudson might sing in tribute at the Grammys. That would be lovely. They should get Mariah to sing at the funeral, that would be a beautiful tribute.

  60. LucyOriginal says:

I am really sad. Rest in Peace, Whitney.

  61. Vanden says:

Wait… She was dating Ray J? as in Kim Kardashian sex tape Ray J? Urgh! can’t believe such an incredibly talented woman has been with that famewhore’s ex.

I know it’s not the pressing issue, but my initial shock has subsided for me to notice that horrific detail

  62. anonymous says:

I don’t think she died from a drug overdose. I think it was probably heart failure from years of drug abuse.
Rest in peace, Ms. Whitney. Your voice will echo for years to come…

  63. UniqJazz says:

She had such a powerful voice. Another talent lost to drugs.
    Rest In Peace, Whitney

  64. Quinn says:

One of the first records I ever owned…I will never forget that gorgeous album cover, with Whitney wearing a white sheath dress. She was incredibly beautiful and talented. She was also a true cautionary tale.

  65. Mary says:

    to sad, very sad. RIP.

  66. Palermo says:

Always knew this was coming. She had one of the greatest voices of our time.

  67. hopperlea says:

    RIP Whitney.Very sad.

  68. The Original Mia says:

Very sad news. Rest in peace, Whitney!

  69. UniqJazz says:

    Drugs are the devil !!

  70. Ron says:

All the great 80’s stars are going too soon. Sad.

  71. Annietude says:

Such a loss. She had a voice I loved and envied, and such life and beauty before her decline into drugs. The drugs probably ravaged her body, ending her life too soon. RIP Whitney.

  72. Jules says:

She was beautiful and had a beautiful voice. So sad that drugs took such a toll on her and her life.

  73. marie says:

I remember when she first came into the spotlight and she was so beautiful, elegant, and conducted herself with class. She was a good girl until she met Bobby Brown. People can say “How can you blame Bobbi Brown or in Demi Moore’s case, Ashton Kutcher” it is the svengali like hold a man can have over a women that eats at her self esteem until she crumbles. It happened to me and I would NEVER have thought it possible. I am strong but I almost was ruined financially by a Man. It is sad to hear but hopefully women can learn from this and never ever put yourself before any man.

    • LeeLoo says:

Marie, I feel for you. I understand what it is like to be in your shoes. But this wasn’t finances, this was drug addiction. These two enabled each other and were toxic for one another, no one will argue this fact. I do think it is very unfair to blame Whitney’s problems with drugs and alcohol squarely on Bobby’s shoulders. We can speculate on when and how she got into drugs but I think it is unfair to make any of this about Bobby Brown. This was HER drug addiction, not his. I guess I fail to see the point in assigning blame at this point in the game.

    • jc126 says:

Marie, more women than you know have been ruined financially by a bad man. Life can be better for you, know that and hugs to you.
I, too, believe Bobby used Whitney.

  74. HappyMom says:

I’m 45 and remember getting Seventeen magazine and she was their cover girl-so beautiful! And that amazing voice-what a tragic waste. RIP. And Lindsay-take note at what all that partying leads too . . .

    • Whatever says:

They just mentioned this on CNN. She was the first black female on the cover of seventeen.

    • Maya says:

I remember her in Seventeen magazine as well.
What shocking news about her death. It’s sad on many levels. So much talent, so many personal problems that compromised her god given talent.

  75. lisa says:

All this sympathy after she is gone.

    • Valkyrie says:

That’s right, Lisa, because it’s a sad situation. People had sympathy for her after she tried (and failed)to revive her singing career too. That was also a sad situation. She apparently wasn’t strong enough to stay clean and sober…sad too. Would you rather there be no sympathy and sadness at all because it’s after the fact? Are you trying to make people feel bad for revealing their emotions and feelings concerning a death that obviously even she wasn’t strong enough to prevent? What exactly was your point?

      • lisa says:

My point was she was a human being during her struggle. She was a person when people were making fun just a few days ago regarding her appearance. She was a person when she was the brunt of jokes about her drug use.

So yes there is sympathy. But for many of the people that ran to blogs to post how sad it is or went to twitter. Those are the same people just days ago were saying something completely different.

Life changes in moment. and the people that we post about are not just some figure we see on the TV or listen to.. they are REAL people with problems and worries and pains. Money and fame don’t erase that. Just because you have money doesn’t mean you are less then the “real people” that don’t

I was a huge fan of Whitney for years. Was sad about the path she took. It is sad when people become compassionate after the death..

She needed it when she was alive.

So snark at me all you want.. agree or not.. I voiced my opinion. MY OPINION. didn’t ask you to like it or agree..

    Deeply sad. Rest dear Whitney.

  80. Whatever says:

    Gosh Whitney…WHY???

  81. valleymiss says:

I really, truly thought that Whitney would have a comeback, a career rebirth of sorts. Very bummed that she never got to do that. What a beautiful voice. Whitney and Etta James, both gone. *shakes head*

Boobi Kristina – stay strong. Do not let this break you. You are a beautiful young woman and your mom is watching over you!

  82. mew says:

I had been having nightmares all night long and when I first saw this news, I thought I was still sleeping, saying to myself “this must be a joke.”

Wow.. it’s so heart to believe this world is again a bit poorer, having lost one of its greatests singers. Even with her difficulties, none of these pop princesses can ever do what Whitney did, sing like she did.

  83. Asli says:

I just can’t believe this. I can’t. They’re showing The Beverly Hills Hilton on CNN and I just….. cant belive this. Me and my siblings used to have dance competitions to her songs (when we were really young, I think I was five) and now she’s gone. It’s unfatomable.

  84. mln76 says:

It’s really sad…REALLY SAD. STILL Whitney was always into drugs way before Bobby. She was a wild girl from the streets who had so much talent(and Show biz relations) the people in the biz decided to polish her up and give her a goody-goody image she could never live up to . I can’t help but think if she was only 15 to 20 years younger she wouldn’t have crashed and burned because it wouldn’t have been as big a deal that she was a black girl who was a little bit wild aka Rihanna (Except with zero need for autotune)…
    RIP.

    • Jaye says:

Lol @ “from the streets”. She wasn’t some ghetto girl made good. She came from a fairly middle class upbringing. Remember, her mother Cissy had been in the business for YEARS working with Aretha Franklin and others. Whitney liked to party. She was using drugs long before she met Bobby Brown. Her ‘good girl’ image was carefully crafted to match her angel face and heavenly voice and gospel background. Who she really was didn’t match that. But at the time she hit the scene, a pristine image was everything.

  85. Amanda G says:

I am so sad… Even though she ruined her voice with drugs and hard living, I was always rooting for her to get it together. I never liked her as a person, but she had the best voice I ever heard. RIP

  86. Penguin says:

This is so awful . Always admired her voice and the bodyguard is secretly 1 of my favourite films. R.i.p Whitney.

  87. badrockandroll says:

Thia is very sad news. I just hope that it is too late-breaking for the Grammys to do anything tacky. Just let her be.

  88. Annie says:

Help me cele-fans my favorite memory was of Whitney at an awards show ( i cant for the life of me remember which one) singing…naturally she brought the house down….Eddie Murphy was the next presenter and he walked on stage turned to where Whitney had just exited and started shouting his phone number. It brought the house down and sealed her position as the” it” girl. She was so modest about it that it made that much better…does anyone remember this?!…..anyone?

  89. Chanel says:

    DAMN DAMN DAMN.

My heart is going out to her mother, Cissy Houston, her ex-husband, Bobby Brown, and of course Bobbi Kristina.

R.I.P. Whitney, you will be truly missed, but your music and movies will live your spirit forever.

  90. wunder says:

Whitney, we will always love you. RIP

  91. boo says:

This is so incredibly sad. I was in Hollywood with my daughter and her friend and this man, out of the blue, said to me as I was walking by, Whitney Houston died, this was like at about 5:00 p.m., I said “No, that can’t be”, I don’t know this man, he just started talking to me and said that the ambulance had gone to Beverly Hills and that they had found her dead at the Beverly Hilton. I was astounded and then I thought, maybe it’s a hoax! It cannot be true! but it was. I am beyond sad, I grew up with her, I am so sad, for her family and especially for her young daughter. RIP dear Whitney.

  92. CHRISTIAN_GIRL says:

Not everybody can turn their life around. Truly sad indeed. We should celebrate those who have.

Those still on this time side of life have a chance to redeem themselves. The industry can be cruel and her last attempt proved that.

Drug addiction always comes with the possibilty of a relapse and that is actually even sadder. To kick it only to fall back into the habit. Never been an addict, but MANY of those close to me are and it is tough to watch for my entire life struggle with it.

She blessed us with song for the short time she was here and for that I am truly thankful. Can’t imagine a world where there NEVER having heard a Whitney Houston song OR a Michael Jackson song. For those gifts of music, I celebrate and cherish.

  93. mary simon says:

so sad. Lindsay – take heed.

    • kibbles says:

Even if Lohan doesn’t die in her 20s, all of that partying, alcohol addiction, and drug use will catch up to her eventually. If she doesn’t clean up her act in the next several years, she will definitely end up like Whitney sooner or later. The body can’t take that much abuse and organs will shut down earlier than they were meant to. I believe that is what happened to Brittany Murphy, Whitney, Amy Winehouse, and many other celebrities before them who also died of drug abuse.

  94. Bluebear says:

As sad as I am, and at the same time as not shocked as I am, a part of me is just livid. Her poor daughter! She didn’t get the great woman we all saw! She is only 19! So much of her life was spent watching her mother deteriorate into a sniveling crack addict. Yes, this is sad for us, and I am sure that Bobbi Christina will miss her mother terribly, but I am sure that the roller coaster of drug abuse that has been that poor girls life for so long being at it’s end must be something good to come out of such a terrible situation. Her daughter will most certainly be in my thoughts as I am sure her mother is in the heaven that I believe is there.

  95. Sassy says:

    So sad. 🙁

    RIP. xo

  96. Sadie says:

Never posted yet…but this has totally compelled me to.
Anyone else a child of the 80’s & can remember singing & dancing to her songs at sleepovers?
So so sad…hope she is in a better place.

  97. dena says:

No words, just sadness. RIP Whitney.

  98. Angel says:

I was shocked today to discover how many younger people (18-21ish) arent really that familiar with her. to me she is such an icon,, but almost every person I know in that age bracket claims they barely know who she is. the world changes so fast (I am only 28!! and to me she is a larger than life icon and has been for my entire life, much like MJ or even Madonna). it’s just mind blowing.

This is so tragic, though. She really was so young. RIP, Whitney; sing with the Angels, girl.

  99. Ogechi says:

May God grant her eternal peace. RIP the greatest Whitney Houston.

  100. Romia says:

I’ll be damned that no one in drug-addled Tinsel Town connected Whitney’s history of severe drug abuse, her very distended abdomen, and what appears to be a weeping edema of the one leg. It looks to be plasma mixed with a tinge of blood that is running down her leg in several places, at least in that one picture. Liver or kidney failure (what with the swollen abdomen), but I’m no doctor. I do know that even after “beating” a serious drug habit the body can stay in “failure” mode for several months. So yes, she may have been currently clean, albiet a touch intoxicated.

But aren’t some of those folks around her paid to catch these things? Or even become suspicious enough just to stay on the safe side? Maybe they did; I hope so. Maybe nobody listened, which is probably closer to the truth.

Then again, maybe it’s all bullshit. Maybe the abdominal swelling and bleeding leg were caused by a lunch of gas-inducing spicy chili while being aggressively leg-humped by the neighborhood chihuahua. But I doubt it.

With sincerity I say, RIP Whitney; there but for the grace of those around me, go I.

    • apsutter says:

It is odd. There are pictures of her leaving a doctors office from 9 days ago so I wonder what was going on. Maybe her heart just gave out from all the abuse it suffered.

    • paola says:

I’ve seen her on X factor UK last year and she wasn’t good, she was stoned head to toes and she seemed so lost and unconscious, that iw shere i realized she was doomed. The golden days have gone for so many years now, but no one deserve to end like that, no Lindsay lohan, no Amy Winehoues not Whitney for sure. I always wonder what friends, family and people working for these people do, apart from grabbing the money every time they have a chance. I hope they’ll be haunted for all their lives for not being helpful and not pushed people like Whitney to stop the drugs, the alcohol and all the shit that was going on.
be at peace Whitney, i feel lucky enough to have witnessed a true talent and such an amazing voice that this world will never see again.

      • kibbles says:

You have to be strong and independent to turn out okay in the entertainment industry. There are so many enablers and people who care more about their pocketbook than a so-called friend’s health. As long as they can remain in a celebrity’s good graces and/or receive a paycheck, party invite, vacation invite, gifts, etc. then it is all good. I don’t understand how everyone is saying that she looked fine and healthy when most of the photos I’ve seen of her for many years indicate the exact opposite.

    • Mourning the Death of Music says:

Much easier for the yes-men around her to turn a blind eye then actually put a foot down.

  101. skuddles says:

RIP Whiney.. I was not a big fan but I always appreciated her talent.

  102. Camille (The original) says:

So, so sad. Gutting. We have lost a truly great voice, she had one of the best voices in the business. RIP Whitney.

  103. glowkey says:

Came across this one – the isolated vocal track on “How Will I Know”:

    http://jakefogelnest.com/post/17460767716

Such a tragedy to lose Ms. Houston, and especially to envision what constitutes the majority of the (popular) music world these days that can’t hold a candle to such unadulterated talent.

    • jc126 says:

Tremendous. Every auto-tuned, tweaked “singer” today should listen to that and then go hide their heads in shame that they pretend to actually sing.

      Unreal talent.

  104. Girl says:

    Requiescat in pace, Whitney.

  105. Franny says:

you know, I don’t know whats worse:

When a star who is currently at the top of their game dies suddenly, leaving you wishing you knew all they had to offer to their business

or when a former superstar spirals down to nothing and dies somehow related to drugs (see MJ, Amy, and now Whitney).

  106. dessiree says:

no one can compare on you idol,,,,RIP whitney Houston

  107. dvz says:

Hopefully this horrible news will inspire SOMEONE to try and extricate Lohan from her rats nest of enablers into a lock down facility. All I can think of is the last snap of this post: Dead woman walking http://www.celebitchy.com/207815/lindsay_lohan_was_a_crackie_trainwreck_at_the_amfar_gala_of_course/

  108. Lee says:

I hope their daughter gets to live free from both her parents addictions/troubles.

  109. dean travers says:

Terrible, sad, ugly news. Just a quick interjection though, this has NOTHING to do with Lindsay Lohan and all the comments that seem to imply that Whitney was sacrificed in her stead are creepy as hell. Losing a tremendously talented icon is painful and tragic no question. She was not a martyr though and lived how she chose to, with a child and all. It is folly to lionize her by wishing death on a fellow addict and ideally this would serve as an opportunity to STFU about what “trainwrecks” people are unless you are willing to hold that tough stance when they die. Is it worth it?

  110. GoodCapon says:

    🙁 🙁 RIP Whitney.

  111. carrie says:

RIP Whitney she was so talented

  112. MissyA says:

I was making my nightly rounds on celebitchy when my boyfriend texted me with the news. Three minutes later, I saw the update.

I just feel so incredibly sad. I heard cursory reports that there were gouges on her wrists. Regardless of what was in her system, she was a deeply troubled woman.

    Sad. So sad.

  113. *Roxy* says:

    Shocked!
    R.I.P.

  114. monetter says:

This is very sad, we keep loosing our good singers and we are replacing them with marketing products who can’t sing a note to save their sorry lives.
The world will be a much sadder place without you, but your songs will continue to keep your spirit alive!

  115. asiont says:

such a lost for music. she will be missed

  116. Ruby Red Lips says:

Rip Witney. Such a sad waste. I really hope people take note thar cr*ck etc always ends badly and leads to premature death. I am not surprised by this news but it is still incredibly sad to hear.

  117. juicyjackie says:

I am shocked so many people are shocked.

This woman was selfish to her family.

She chose drugs over her child.

She chose drugs over her talent.

And yes it is an addiction but she allowed herself to be an *ongoing* victim of self abuse and missed at least a decade of living.

As a child of 2 substance abuse parents I know that her daughter will be crushed but she will also be relieved that she does not have to watch her mother slowly kill herself and be in pain. Bobbi christina will have to live with the guilt of wishing her mother dead to stop having to watch her suffer every day.

    • Shamozzle says:

      Exactly!!

Don’t forget once a celeb dies all of a sudden everyone was a ‘fan’ LOL.

    • dean travers says:

Chill out man, that level of self-righteousness upon someone’s demise is distressing. I would always prefer the company of an addict to that of a cold-hearted extremist.

  118. Coucou says:

They’re saying here in France that she drowned in her bath tub…so sad…can’t help but think of Jim Morrison, who also died in the bath…so much talent, so much promise, it’s truly humbling and frightening the power that drugs and alcohol can have over a person…RIP Whitney…i hope you are singing with the angels now…and send angels to protect Bobby-Kristina…i can only imagine what she must be going through right now.

  119. Sue says:

Wow, she was only 7 days older than me, cannot imagine my life ending now. Very sad…..

  120. storyteller says:

Incredibly sad news. A majestic voice, a tragic end. RIP Whitney.

  121. Mourning the Death of Music says:

I’m neither shocked nor saddened by the news. Yet another wasted life destroyed by bad choices. Though it is her life and thus hers to do with as she wished.

I don’t necessarily have anything against her – I didn’t know her, but, I certainly don’t have anything for her, either. I do feel terrible for those loved ones she’s left behind.

May she now find peace where she couldn’t in this life.

  122. Kel says:

I just saw the pics posted from when she was leaving a club on Feb. 9 and she was definitely wasted. Her death should be no surprise. I don’t understand anyone who destroys their life with drugs, much less someone who had the God-given talent and all the opportunities she had. I choose to remember her how she was in her first video “I Wanna Dance”…she was so cute and bubbly. Such a shame.

  123. Mrs. Darcy says:

It is sad and unfortunate, she really did have everything going for her. I cannot stand the style of singing she spawned, but her own talent was un-affected and something real. I think the purity of her voice at its peak will probably stick with people now longer than the memories of her sad descent. God knows the multitude of stories that will come out now. She was obviously unhappy to have continued down this path for most of her adult life. I did always think it was weird she became a drug addict at her age, maybe she just never had any freedom when she was younger and rebellion manifested late in life. It’s easy to blame Bobby but it probably would have been someone else handing her a crack pipe if that’s what she was drawn to. I feel bad for her daughter. p.s. Strike me down if Beyonce doesn’t find a way on to that Grammy stage tonight!

  124. Laura says:

You can’t blame Bobby for her life. She chose to put those drugs into her system no one was holding a gun to her head. Granted he was a bad influence but she still didn’t sort herself out even after they split. Regardless of whether her death was drug-related it’s a sad waste of life and my sympathies lie 100% with her daughter and family. No one should have to deal with the death of a parent at that age and I hope she has the right support network around her to help her. Whitney was an amazing talent and always will be regardless of her private life.

  125. Divorcee says:

That was the girl! I love her songs. Her death has come as a shock for me. May Whitney Houston Rest in Peace.

  126. Ana says:

R.I.P. Whitney, your songs, voice and talent will live on forever.

It will be a sad red carpet today at the Grammy Awards.

  127. Cathy says:

RIP Whitney, another talent gone to soon.

  128. dahlia noir says:

Oh my God… RIP Whitney, your contribution to music won’t be forgotten.

  129. Flan says:

Sad. She was such a phenomenon, but like Michael wasted away under influence of enablers.

Am glad Britney was taken out of the enabler world that she was in by her father.

Perhaps this can be a wake-up call for everyone to protect loved-ones from enablers, who leech off vulnerable people.

Let’s keep educating the young and not keep stories like these away from them. Let’s give them self-confidence, so they will not end up like poor Whitney and her even poorer daughter (who never had a great chance with two addicted parents).

Let’s especially give confidence to our daughters to believe in their own judgment of what is right and wrong, so they do not get swayed, thinking men like these know better what’s best for them just because they are male.

    • LAK says:

You can give people all the tools to help them make good decisions, but if they surround themselves with enablers, nothing anyone else can do.

i remember being horrified that Britney was allowed to have her extended breakdown before her family stepped in, and i applauded their decision to remove control and enablers from her life.

All addicts, famous or not need to have that kind of support. I know that they have to want to get better, but sometimes, forcing them to get better, and then keeping them on a tight leash may be a better way to handle the problem. It is no coincidence that rehab works…while they are in rehab because they lock it down,no amount of foot stomping is going to make the councillors/supervisor sympathetic enough to give you a tinnie hit. period. It’s when the leash is removed ie they go back into the world and the enablers come back into their lives that it becomes a problem.

Lindsay Lohan is not going to get better when her own mother is enabling her. Sam Ronson”s family stepped in to remove Lindsay from Sam’s life because ‘they said Lindsay was a bad influence and or enabling Sam.’ If only someone would do the same for Lindsay.

Looking at the pictures of Britney, yes, she’s better etc but her eyes tell it all. She is on serious meds and it worries me that she may be given control back because she does not look well.

Would the same style of intervention have worked for Amy or Whitney? May be or May be not. But at least in both their cases, their families did try. And they did have a measure of success because both ladies went to rehab and for a time had a moment of sobriety. And for that they can take some comfort, even as they grieve their loss.

      • dean travers says:

Amy Winehouse was a troublesome mess with one good album, Linday Lohan is a career addict who has pimped out her entire life. Neither has anything to do with this, good lord! This group’s obsession with poor, sickly, L. Lohan is so freaky to me. Would you trade places with her? No? Than leave it alone, her fate seems set. What glory will be gained by “calling it?” Y’all are by and large a smart bunch and I like reading opinions..but the Lindsay one is kind of evil friends. RIP Whit, and good luck to the addicts and wounded souls.

  130. crtb says:

    OriginalTiffany says:

Exactly what I thought. That cockroach goes on living while talented people like MJ die.

Lindsay Lohan is not a cockroach. Just like Whitney, she was one a beautiful and talented artist. and just like Whitney, she got hooked drugs and alcohol. Look back at Whitney in the 90’s, when she hit rock bottom. Unlike Lohan, she had a mother and family who went to hell and back to get her off drugs. Clive Davis invested his own money to give her a come back. Everyone blamed Bobby, however he is no longer in the picture so we can’t blame him for her current downhill spiral. Lohan dosen’t deserve to be called names. She deserves loving parents who are not fame whores who truely care for her well being.

    • jc126 says:

The comments about LL are creepy. I don’t care for her, but I don’t wish it was her instead of WH, I wish this didn’t happen to anybody.
I find “celebrity death pools” very creepy, too. Not funny.

Although it’s sad that Whitney Houston lost her life, it’s sad for her daughter mostly; I’m going to be really honest here and that there are a lot of people and families (who are not famous) struggling with addiction every day. I feel for those people who don’t have endless resources to get the help they need. Whenever a celebrity dies we act like it’s so shocking.. like people don’t die. It’s important to remember that nothing is permanent and the harder we are on ourselves the quicker that impermanence comes.

  132. ol cranky says:

TMZ’s reporting they found prescription drugs in her room and she was found in the bath tub. It sounds like she may have taken some sedatives and then taken a bath which is a recipe for a drowning

when I wished for good gossip in 2012, this was NOT what I had in mind. I read this early morning and needless to say, very hard to stomach. I believed it immediately though, just like Winehouse you don’t want it to happen but you are not that surprised either. You just wish for the best. She lived a rough life. Such a shame. RIP. Now please, no more deaths of legends in 2012! And also no Lohan death (as I read something upthread). Dying is only less sad when it’s from old age or a long painful disease, still sad but a relieve for those suffering.

Maybe this should also be a wake-up call for people who run the business and lives of these stars. Much heartache can be prevented if there would only be people who not only cared about the money making side but the human personal side. Too many stars (e.g. Spears, Lovato, Lohan, Aguilera) lived through constant manipulation of money grubbing people and neglected the issues so when they got older, they had a sh*load of issues to deal with and not the tools/skills to make their life better. I don’t care how old they are, sometimes people need some tough love.

Sad news aside, Beyoncé and Gaga are really going to keep their shenanigans locked up now because the Grammy’s are going to be ALL about Houston and Adele. NO TIME for tricks from the main attention wh*. At least I hope they will do something for Houston at the Grammy’s, this can’t be ignored!

  134. Shy says:

Another idiot celebrity… What it wrong with those prescription drugs? WHO gives them to celebrities? There is the names of the doctors on the bottles. Those doctors should be prosecuted like that Michael Jackson doctor. They should be put in jail like Conrad Murray. They killed those stupid celebrities. Heath Ledger, Brittany Murphy, Michael Jackson. Now Whitney Houston. You know that it’s probably 95% that she died from some legal drugs too.

Why those doctors prescribe so many drugs to celebrities that they die when they take 5 different drugs? Do you read how many different prescription drugs Lindsay Lohan takes? That on can die any second too.

If Whitney Houston died from prescription drugs like Heath and Brittany then police should prosecute doctors that gave it too her. Because it looks like doctors are new drug dealers now. Celebrities don’t need to go to drug dealers now. Their doctors will give them all the legal drugs they want. Dear police and DA please save those stupid celebrities from themselves. Do something about those doctors who take money from them and give theme drugs that kill them.

Sorry but I have zero sympathy for people who died from drugs or drunk driving. I feel sorry that famous and once talented person died. But let’s face it. Whitney had everything to be rich intelligent lady, respected icon. But inside she was always trailer park trash and loud bitch. You could hear it from her interviews. And she didn’t want to help herself. Even for her daughter.

FYI over a 100,000 die a year from prescription drugs not just celebrities.

    • Sillyone says:

@Shy-I am in total agreement with you about not feeling sorry for those who die of drug, (legal or illegal) or of alcohol issues. I just can’t build up one ounce of sympathy.

    • LAK says:

Not just precription drugs. Also over the counter medications. I am always shocked at the High dosage and number of pills of something as basic as Paracetamol when i visit the states.

    • Shamozzle says:

^ Shy, thank god. Another voice of reason besides my own!!

Soooooooo sick of when celebs die and everyone starts the legalise drugs bullsh!t. As if legalising cocaine(Yes, Tony Bennett I’m looking at you will ‘save lives’!! PUH-LEASE.

Self induldgent celebs that make poor choices in life and die by the consequences. Shock horror. I only feel for their family not them!!

      • Jaye says:

As a person who comes from a family with its share of addicts, I feel where you are coming from. But, at the point where a person goes from recreational user to addict, it’s no longer about choice, or exerting willpower. They can’t control the urge to use. They don’t ENJOY their addiction…but they can’t stop. Not on their own anyway. Their bodies, their brains NEED the drug. I subscribe to the theory that addiction IS a chronic disease that requires a lifetime of treatment to manage. I empathize with their struggle and I don’t think it’s a cop out or enabling the addict to feel that way.

m startin 2 think the Craken will outlive us all, nuclear war, mayan apocolypse…. Poor whitney, she was a thing of beauty & TRUE TALENT back in the day. Many happy childhood memories ‘I wanna dance with somebody’ ‘the greatest love’, high school crushes ‘I will always love you’ ‘You give good love’, adult love & heartbreak ‘waiting to exhale’ ‘every woman’ ‘rather be alone than unhappy’. Every song a hit, every lyric evoked a relatable emotion, its a wasted life that she had left in the end. Its so sad, so so sad she couldn’t get it together. She was magic & i thank her 4 the beautiful music

  136. Jennifer12 says:

I don’t like Bobby Brown, but he had little to do with Whitney’s downward spiral or she would have gotten it together after they divorced. She was a drug addict, pure and simple. Her daughter led a horrific life in which she raised herself and now is acting like her mother. It’s nice that she was so talented, but she destroyed it. Xtina and Lohan are on the same path and it sucks. Being talented doesn’t mean you always make good decisions. And overcoming your addictions for your child(ren) would be nice. All that said, she was too young to suffer from those terrible addictions and was too young to die. Hope she is at peace now and her death was not in vain- LEARN something from her life/death.

  137. Elle says:

I can only see the joy she has given with her wonderful voice. She wasn’t a ‘celebrity’, she was a amazing talent who sadly suffered with a disease. You will be missed Whitney.

  138. Aqua says:

The music industry has suffered the loss of many of the best and greatest talent in a very short amount of time.May they finally find the peace that they were looking for.

My thoughts and prayer go out to her mother who has lost a child and for whitneys daughter who at a young age has lost her mother.

  139. Mich says:

I have such great memories of singing at the top of my lungs with my high school girlfriends when her first album came out. This is just so sad. Many of us on this site have struggled with addiction ourselves and fully understand the unbearable pain that must have been a constant part of her life. Some people are able to retake control, many others aren’t. So sad.

  140. jc126 says:

Why do people post comments that essentially are “She was a druggie, I don’t give a crap that she’s dead’? Why comment if you don’t give a rat’s ass?

    • Chris says:

Totally agree, JC. Sadly when ever a celebrity dies these days and I go to read about it on a forum I expect to come across a troll or two who’ll go out of their way to say something inflammatory or insensitive. Then when they get the response they were after they’ll try and take the moral high ground by defending their right to an opinion or some such shit, when all a long their sole intention was to cause offense. Beeping psychos!

  141. Hope says:

Terrible, terrible news. She truly deserved her fame – I can’t think of her equal right now, someone who really had it all (looks, the voice, acting ability, stage presence, etc.). It’s completely frustrating now to see so many people becoming “famous” for no apparent reason/talent (or even worse, for being an awful human being that makes for great TV). It’s easy now for even established celebrities to dabble in other artistic avenues b/c everything is pretty much done for them, they don’t even have to try, as long as the packaging looks pretty and impressive.

    • Jover says:

Agree fully hope the revenue stream goes to the same 20-30 “stars” and it leads to the homogenization of pop culture; cutting a vanity cd, shilling for a cosmetic brand – easy effortless money. Tired of it.

  142. Jover says:

RIP Whitney while dance pop isn’t my fav, she was one of a kind and glowkey and JC126 you’re right I don’t get tired of watching/listening to the song and vid of How Will I know Young people today can’t imagine how that dominated, and rightfully so, MTV back in the day, just a fun great dance song that’s puts to shame just about all of today’s junk. You’re right badrockandroll, I think it’s beyond most of todays so-called “stars” to do anything classy in honor of whitney – and Please for the love of God keep narcissists like Madge and Xtina away from her funeral. Can’t we have something respectful.

  143. the original bellaluna says:

Poor Bobbi Christina! RIP, Whitney. It sure doesn’t seem like you had much in life.

  144. skuddles says:

I’m sure there will be numerous tributes to Whitney’s amazing talent… I so hope Xtina is not one of them.

  145. lucy2 says:

This news made me so sad. I grew up on her music, and she really had an amazing talent. She was someone I always hoped would turn it around.
My deepest sympathies to her family and friends, especially her mother and her daughter.

  146. I Choose Me says:

Not particularly shocked sadly, still she was only 48. I knew drugs had ruined her voice and future prospects but the woman is a legend – one of the greatest talents of our time and I kept hoping she would turn it around. RIP Whitney. Your music lives on.

  147. SamiHami says:

I hope she is at peace now.

  148. Kim says:

RIP. My prayers to her daughter.

  149. holly hobby says:

I was just thinking about her last week when I was watching the Super bowl. I told DH that her version of the National Anthem was the best and she had a gift. It was too bad she squandered that gift on some drugs.

I guess we have all been waiting to see if she makes it past her addiction. Sorry to see she did not. What a waste!
