Gabrielle Union says her career “took a hit” after the homewrecking rumors

A few years ago, the Alicia Keys-Swizz Beatz situation began blowing up all over the urban blogs, but for the most part, “legit” mainstream media outlets and blogs ignored the sketchiness of Swizz’s multiple baby-mamas, his deadbeat-daddying, the shadiness in which he and Alicia started up while he was still married. It was a mess, and it got “white-washed” rather effectively. I bring this up because while I’ve written one story about the current Gabrielle Union-Dwyane Wade situation, for the most part it’s been a repeat of the Keys-Beatz thing. Now, I’m not saying Dwyane Wade is as shady as Swizz – he’s not! Hardly anyone is as shady as Swizz. I’m just saying that for the most part, the mainstream media is taking Gabrielle Union’s side and looking the other way as urban blogs report story after story about all of the drama with Dwyane Wade’s ex-wife.

The basic gist of the “scandal”/scandal: Miami Heat baller Dwayne Wade was married to Siohvaughn Funches, and they have two kids together. Circa 2009, Dwyane met Gabby, split up with his wife and began shacking up with Gabby. The order of these events is up for debate – Funches claims that Gabby “homewrecked” her marriage, and Funches filed a lawsuit against Union too (although the case was dismissed). Gabby maintains that she and Wade didn’t start up until he and Funches were already over and legally separated. Pro-Gabby sources also make Funches out to be some kind of nutjob, and I believe that Dwyane has primary custody of the two kids too. Pro-Funches sources still claim – to this day – that there was definitely an overlap between the marriage and Wade’s relationship with Gabby. So… I still don’t really know. In the Union interview I covered back in April, she said, “I think people mistook me taking the high road as an admission of guilt. Dwyane and I made a decision very early to not react to the negativity. And I kept feeling like the truth would come out. The problem is, when it did, nobody cared. What I discovered on social media is that people don’t read the entire story.”

Well, Gabby has a new little interview with T.T. Torrez – and my radar is still up about Gabby. I’ve always liked her and I’ve always thought she was beautiful, but I wonder if she’s handling this on-going situation the right way? When Gabby gets the question about Siohvaughn right off the bat, Gabby kind of goes off:

Gabby says, in part, “It’s hard. Aside from loving him, I want to protect myself. I’ve built my life, I built my own brand, I built my career, and my career took a hit from that madness. Because some people refuse to see the truth even when it’s presented to them time and time and time again. So I love him, but at some point it’s about self-preservation, and I needed to protect myself. I pay for family. I pay for my mama and my daddy and my sisters and her family. D doesn’t write those checks, I do. So when something is starting to affect how I make a living? No, no, no, baby. Let me figure out a way of not only protecting our home, Dwayne and I have with the kids, you have to put them first…and then I have to take care of my family… Fortunately, by taking the high road…and not engaging in the back-and-forth craziness, I was able to do both.”

Part of me thinks that Gabby should get credit for not going full-blown LeAnn Rimes about the situation, you know? Because this could be so, so much worse. Instead, I’m left vaguely unsettled, like there’s some wording or phrase that rubs me the wrong way but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I think one of the things that bugs me is that Gabby seems to really have an inflated sense of her own career, her own “brand”, you know? She acts like she’s Angelina Jolie, like she’s one of the top stars out there and… she’s really not. She works consistently and all that, but she’s not a superstar or an A-list actress or anything. In previous interviews too, she was talking about how she’s so super-famous, it was so “easy to track” where she was and what she was doing, and that was somehow “proof” that she didn’t have an affair with Wade. Ugh.

    That seems to be the common thread with these homewrecker chicks, the delusion that they are better and entitled.

    • Dana M says:

      For sure!!

    • beclove says:

      Agree.

    • sassy says:

      I agree. I just found out my husband has been cheating on me and I read my husbands texts from this low rent homewrecker and she claims she is perfectly justified to split up family including a four month old!!!

      • FingerBinger says:

        Damn, sorry to hear that. I hate when people try to justify their behavior. Good luck with your situation.

      • remote control says:

        Oh, Sassy! ugh, no words… 🙁

      • Ginger says:

        I’m so sorry to hear that…it has to be the hardest thing in the world to deal with that betrayal. Much luck to you!

  2. amoi says:

    oh. it should’ve taken a hit after The Honeymooners remake…or Flash Forward…or Meet Dave? gee, idk. Anyway, I really don’t think it had anything to do with the homewrecking rumors because as stated in the story, mainstream rarely pays attention to black celebrities personal lives unless the cops are involved.

    • Kim1 says:

      Thats true the only time Jennifer Hudson made a tabloid cover is when her family was killed and Rihanna was beat up before getting cover.Tabloids don’t care about Gaby

      • amoi says:

        it really is true…some of the biggest black actors in the business, no one cares when they have a baby, no one cares to see candid family photos of them at the grocery store…white celebs, we know exactly who their non famous spouses are, their kids, everything…it just is what it is…gabby shouldnt flatter herself enough to think anyone cares about what shes doing with a basketball player. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats are cumulatively far more successful than Leanne Rimes and Eddie Cibrian yet Leanne gets faaaaaaar faaaar more coverage. hell, Alicia had a child and Swizz Beatz ex wife was on a reality show as well.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

        So true! The people you metioned are far, far more interesting than Kardashians, LA Rhimes etc.
        Although, I suppose the lack of coverage could be a blessing for those black celebs that value their privacy.

    • Maguita says:

      I definitely agree.

      You only hear about black celebrities in times of extremes. Very few had gotten fair coverage, and those were extremely popular, like Denzel, Chris Rock, and Eddie Murphy.

      The only black female celebrities you hear often about, are Halle Berry and Rihanna.

      But again, it is because of their drama. And that is why many craving the spotlight, create their own drama and lead lives outside the box: Lil’ Wayne, Chris Brown, and every basketball player impregnating a woman every other week.

      There has to be a better, more effective way to showcase talent rather than sleaze!

      • Riana says:

        It has to be hard though.

        These days its very easy for the public to become to fixated on a celebrity if they do one good movie or have a break out role.

        Like Jennifer Lawrence or Andrew Garfield.

        But the playing field is just not the same for a black celeb unless they’re already a mega-star.

        I imagine for newcomers they struggle with finding a way to get recognition that can at least put them in an equal playing field of being recognized by the media and being offered the same opportunities. (The Jersey Kids have Best Selling Books if that doesn’t say all).

        It sucks but that’s when the stupid tacky behavior comes out for some.

    • Cam S says:

      @ Maguita
      I actually knew all about this a LONG time ago. I read Jet magazine, and it’s been on mediatakeout and some of the lesser known gossip sites. It was a big deal.
      And homewrecking Rimes is always tweeting Gabby. Homewreckers UNITE

    • Jennipurrr says:

      Wow, I hadn’t ever noticed / thought about this until you mention it. How horrible. Though, as another person commented above that may be a bonus in some of the slighted actors’ eyes.

  3. PHD in Gossip says:

    At least she didn’t spring for a boob job to enhance her “brand”

  4. blah says:

    The only rumours I’ve heard about Gabrielle Union homewrecking have been from Gabrielle Union coming to the press and talking about them herself. Nobody gives a flying f-ck.

    • hoya_chick says:

      EXACTLY! Listen, I read a few black blogs. In fact last night instead of studying for the GREs and preparing for my presentation at work today I was up reading necole bitchie until wayyyy in the am. The comments on that site remind me a lot of the ones over here. So funny and so much snark! Ha! I am huge basketball fan (though I loathe the heat) and I honestly do not remember any of this when it initially happened! Maybe I didn’t pay enough attention because I don’t like him or her but she is forever bringing it up! They even posed for an Essence magazine cover…..as f@cking if! No one would care if she didn’t bring it up. She is always also on twitter ala Leann Rimes tweeting about his boys and ‘their family’ and doggin his ex. No class what’s so ever. She has no brand. The last movie I saw her in was Bring It On. She needs to have a seat.

  5. su says:

    I get what she means by her brand, i think she meant they way she’s marketed and the kind of roles shes been able to get would have been affected by these allegations. However, i dont buy that their relationship didn’t overlap, they were seeing each other way before his divorce proceedings were underway- well from pictures on the black-centred blogs like ‘crunk and disorderly’ show….

  6. mel2 says:

    I’m not a Gabby fan, but I have read articles about their relationship and I think Dwade’s marriage was pretty much over before Gabby got into the picture. I saw an interview that his ex-wife did on VH1 and she admitted that their marriage fell apart once Dwade entered into the NBA. Their divorce is final but the financial part had not been settled. His ex is cray cray.

    • Hautie says:

      “I think Dwade’s marriage was pretty much over before Gabby got into the picture…… marriage fell apart once Dwade entered into the NBA. Their divorce is final but the financial part had not been settled. His ex is cray cray….”
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      That is what I find amusing about this post. There has been oodles of chat about this relationship for years.
      But I also read “Bossip”.
      And my personal bias opinion… is that Wade had tried to extract himself out of his marriage. Gracefully.
      But he had a wife who refused to go.
      And made Wade’s life a living hell for it. Because she was not about to be the EX-Mrs. Wade. And loose all that cash.
      Then Siohvaughn behaved so badly, that Wade got custody of his boys. After months of her crazy public behavior.
      If Gabrielle was side jump-off. I just don’t see it. She has not pulled any obvious jump-off behavior. Like getting pregnant. Running her mouth like the ex did at every chance given, to the media.
      So I am going to give Gabrielle the benefit of trying to stay calm. And not feeding the trolls.
      And above all else. Mr. Wade always looks calm and happy with her. So does his children.
    • mia girl says:
      I’m in HEAT country and there was always talk about Wade and his cray cray wife long before Union showed up.
      Who knows about an overlap, but based on some fairly common knowledge around here, that home was pretty much wrecked for a while.
  7. littlemissnaughty says:
    First of all, nobody should ever get credit for NOT acting like Leann Rimes. LMAO
    The wording that rubs ME the wrong way is the thing about “the truth” because she never comes out and just says “I didn’t cheat, he didn’t cheat.” No, it’s all about “the truth” that people don’t see but really, that could be anything, right? It could be that we all don’t see just how all-consuming their love is and how they didn’t mean to hurt anyone (which I kind of believe but that’s not the point) or how they couldn’t stay apart or fight their feelings. In essence: Blah blah it’s not our fault. *insert whine here*
    I don’t know what the truth is but usually when cheaters use the “you just don’t understaaaand” argument, it’s a euphemism for “Yeah, we totally did but it’s still not wrong.” Plus, trying to make yourself the victim whose career *cough* took a serious hit and who is such a saint for supporting her family (which is nice, I’ll absolutely give her that)? Nicely deflected, Gabby.
    • Eileen says:
      ITA -when I hear that whole “you don’t know my/the truth” it makes me think they are eluding that something was wrong with the wife and we don’t know how crazy she is. These girls always believe everything the lying cheatbag man says about his wife!
    • lunabell says:
      “nobody should ever get credit for NOT acting like Leann Rimes” LOL so true!
      Yes to everything you said. I don’t care about “homewrecking” celebs nearly as much as a lot of fellow gossipers seem to – personal relationships can get messy and super complicated and frankly too icky for my taste (unless there is something else there like the Tom and Scientology v. Katie stuff).
      But if you’re going to address it and not in a flat out “we didn’t cheat,” then it might be better to keep quiet than go the whole “they just don’t understand” route.
    • Kara Ann says:
      Love your post, spot on!
  8. the_porscha says:
    More issue was made of this on urban and black entertainment blogs, like Bossip and YBF. I read both and I have heard much more coverage of the subject, although I still wouldn’t call it extensive. I think Gabrielle Union’s view of herself is over-inflated, to a degree, but I also think when she says that there were “rumors” and “madness,” she is not referring to blogs like Celebitchy. That’s not where her bread is buttered.
    Anyhow, the wording she uses that bothers me the most is her consistent referral to “taking the high road.” Like class and sophistication, I’ve found that most people who give themselves the distinction are actually lying through their teeth. If she was taking the high road she wouldn’t be talking about it, and she damn sure wouldn’t be pointing out to us that she was, in fact, taking the high road. It makes her sound completely self-absorbed.
    • Jackson says:
      ITA about taking the high road and NOT pointing it out. When she does that she has, indeed, veered off of that high road. She sounds more like she’s on her high horse vs the high road.
      • A Girl Named Mikki says:
        @ Jackson…and there it is!!! She may have THOUGHT she was taking the high road but clearly her focus/energy was elsewhere.
        Also, I’d like to caution sites like CB for panning black celebs to be less than big because they may not be in other communities. It’s like saying you don’t matter until you matter to the majority.
        The fact is, Gabrielle is big in the black community and since she greatly identifies herself as being a “black actress”, this is the basis from which she makes her claim.
        As an african-american, I personally would like to see more artists of african descent focus solely on their talent…because talent has a means of making its own way in the universe…but that’s just me.
      • S.joy says:
        THANK YOU! I read this blog daily, along with necolebitchie.com and sandrarose.com… I would LOVE to see more black celebs featured on this site.
    • TheOriginalKitten says:
      +1
  9. Jade says:
    Gabby is beautiful and talented but as stated above mainstream audiences don’t care about black celebs. She twice as beautiful as actress half her age yet she dosen’t any of the roles. I wish she would try doing a tv show again. As a black actress she has better luck breaking out in that medium.
    • Bite me aka aniston says:
      The creator of Girlfriends ( one of my friends ) is writing and producing a show for her, should premiere on BET this fall, I think
      • amoi says:
        quiet as kept, her stock will drop exponentially if she stars on a BET show. the quality of production and writers just isn’t up to par with the major networks. if she really wants to start being taken seriously she should try doing some Indy films with notable stars that play at the film festivals and work her way back up the ranks. she made a lot of mistakes with previous choices in film.
      • Bite me aka aniston says:
        Meant favorites not friends
    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:
      This reminds me of Kerry Washington’s role on ‘Scandal.’ Beautiful black actress who can now stand out in a crowd bc she is doing more at this point than just a Tyler Perry (-type) movie. I agree TV could be more beneficial to her career or “brand” as she calls it lol.
      • YvetteW says:
        Kerry and Gabby are both beautiful Black women. IMO they are not equals in terms of talent. Kerry is an actor. Gabby has a nice smile. GU’s brand may be limited by her skills and not by her relationship to D Wade.
    • Raven says:
      Speaking of beauty, her skin is amazing. I saw her on C-Span one day testifying with a group of professional women on women victims. The lighting was really bad and not flattering to any of the other women. She looked perfect, though. I know Hollywood women get constant facials and skin treatments, but the comparison was stark.
  10. Naye in VA says:
    I think branding is different in the Black community. We’ve known who Gabby was for years, she’s one of our “famous” so to speak. Just like we knew who Jamie Foxx was lonnng before he did Ray. When you compare her to Angelina Jolie, its not really fair. Angelina will pretty much always be offered way more roles than Gabby (even if she was a better actress which IMO Gabby isnt.) I for one, am always just a bit suprised when I get on mainstream blogs like this and find CB or Kaiser mentioning a Black star and saying they never heard of them, when they’ve been around for years. Like not knowing who Harper Hill is but WTF is Agnyss Dean???
    • Riana says:
      Very true, but I’ve noticed there’s almost two sets of media when it comes to celebrities in general.
      There’s the general 3 ring circus of certain names that come up fiercely who are brand new ‘Jennifer Lawrence’ for example. Then there’s the celebrities who won’t ever really get a mention unless something insane happens. Even then it may be iffy.
      For instance I don’t think this blog reported on Usher’s step-son being reported brain-dead just days ago from a jet ski accident.
      • amoi says:
        the Usher story was heartbreaking and beyond shocking. Usher is an A list music artist. It got over 600 (mainly positive) comments on TMZ which only happens when something epic happens. I still love celebitchy but it does peeve me how a lot of supremely C list celebs get more prominence than others. but i dont own the blog so i just unwrap the surprise each day and enjoy the stories.
      • TheOriginalKitten says:
        @ Riana-I was SO SHOCKED that the injury of Usher’s stepson wasn’t covered here. Not only that, it was barely even a blip on the news where I live. Mind you I got a “BREAKINGNEWS!!” text on my phone from the local newstation when Tom and Katie’s divorce was finalized.
        SMH….
      • L says:
        That story broke my heart. I was impressed by the news that Usher got his ex-wife a private jet so she could fly quickly to GA(?) to see her baby.
        Still, a tragedy for all of them.
      • lena80 says:
        Very true, but I was not surprised it didn’t get a mention on this site. Usher is considered A list in the music world and barely nothing was in the “mainstream” media about the accident. This site, along with many others, tend to only report on Black celebs when something majorly scandalous is going on.
    • FinallyFr33 says:
      +1
    • Frankie says:
      You mean Hill Harper….
    • Viv says:
      Exactly. Harper Hill is in shows that are totally mainstream and has a hundred thousand degrees but here we have Agyness all over the place just for being Agyness, not even for marrying a Scientologist.
      Gabrielle has always attracted attention mostly for who she dated/married and that can’t be a picnic. She would probably be happy with a BET show. There aren’t many roles for black women and she must know that Sanaa Lathan is coming to every single audition, too. That can’t be happy thought inducing. I don’t blame these actresses for marrying ballers and giving up the dream.
    • A Girl Named Mikki says:
      +1!!
      Wow!! I should have read your comment before posting mine!
      I called the exact same thing…
    • Jordan says:
      That’s a very good point. I don’t think Gabby thinks she is Angelina Jolie, but for the group of black actresses out there, she is one of the most known. It’s sad that unless her name is Halle Berry, a black actress is not going to be put anywhere near the list of white actresses when it comes to roles.
  11. tru tru says:
    what career??? a bunch of B listed movies and straight to video crap.
    what does she do again??
    The only thing she is known for now IS being Wade’s side chick, that stuck around long enough to get to the #1 spot…for now.
    visions of grandeur, smdh.
    good luck, Wade cheats and has a few femaes right in Miami under her nose.
  12. beclove says:
    Anyone in the position to support a large family should consider that prior to getting involved in a questionable relationship. Especially a public figure. Understand the “you cannot help who you love” argument but Gabby seems like an intelligent woman- perhaps she should have considered the fallout before getting involved. Especially if the ex truly is nuts.
  13. Riana says:
    Hate to do this but why…are the blogs that aren’t urban ‘legit’? What did you mean by that?
    Honestly mainstream media rarely cares about the inner dealings of black couples or celebrities. I’ve noticed unless its something really scandalous like a Beyonce fake-bump or someone directly feeding the rags like Halle, then they rarely if ever report ANYTHING.
    Just saying I was surprised to see the Frank Ocean coming out letter on this blog because I assumed its someone that wouldn’t really be recognized by the majority of readers. No offense to anyone.
    • AnnieN says:
      @Riana – By “legit” I’m thinking they mean E!, TMZ and the like you see on TV? I could be wrong.
      This makes me think back to a Cote de Pablo post where someone got attacked for creating minorities or something along those lines for mentioning she was Chilean-American (which IS her nationality).
      • Riana says:
        Thanks for some reason my brain didn’t come up with a reasonable answer to that question. You’re right.
  14. Native NYker says:
    Nicely worded. We too have always liked Ms. Union. But be that as it may be we fail to understand why women (& men at times) feel the urgency to get with someone still in the thick of a marriage (even one that is failing.) its just asking for trouble. & there are non-involved folks in the world as well, so why not go get w/ that…
  15. Kim1 says:
    I was shocked to see Frank on CB but he was mentioned because of the letter not his talent. BTW he performed Bad Religion on Jimmy Fallon last night outstanding my new favorite. Also great seeing him smiling __
    • Bite me aka aniston says:
      Speaking of mr. Ocean he wrote this wonderful song for beyonce aka ms. Camel called I miss you, so raw and real
    • mel2 says:
      I saw him too and that performance was whack, WTH, this is not music.
  16. RHONYC says:
    like there’s some wording or phrase that rubs me the wrong way but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I think one of the things that bugs me is that Gabby seems to really have an inflated sense of her own career, her own “brand”
    ————————————-
    it’s official Kais…we’re twins!
    i have felt this way about her for ‘years’. so much so, i didn’t even blink when this home wrecker story came out. bor-ing!
    she is ever so, so bland & meh to me, i’d compare her lukewarm ‘career’ to how many sees St. Katie’s film career.
    & what maybe rubbing you the wrong way is this: “I pay for family. I pay for my mama and my daddy and my sisters and her family. D doesn’t write those checks, I do.”
    ugh. really?!
    she supports her family, great, big woop. did she really have to get all ‘Jada Pinkett-Smith’ on the matter?
    why bring that up…it’s tacky.
    Nick Cannon is the eldest of like 6 boys, and he’s provided all with employment in his companies and the ‘only’ reason i know that is b/c he mentioned it ‘briefly’ on Howard.
    no one likes a braggard.
    p.s.- Queen Latifah is a brand. Jlo is a brand. Jessica Simpson is a brand. Gabrielle Union is just bland.
    boo. 🙁
  17. Smokin' Jo says:
    It’s just like any other sad sack of an ex-wife. Can’t own up to her own failures and tries to put the blame on anybody else. Even though the marriage was over she still clings to the idea that he can’t live without her and will come running, even though all she’s done is spend every last minute in the salon or the mall. And who’s righteous and entitled?? I know if my husband started to lose interest and I did nothing to inspire him, I’d have no one to blame but myself. These pathetic women need to realize they’re nothing special and need to work to keep their husband happy even more so than the average woman. They’ve got fame and fortune and every other gold digging woman hunting their man…and when a man has everything, he doesn’t need a wife who needs for everything. Every man needs a woman who can put him in his place now and again.
  18. Jezi says:
    Oh please, aren’t many of her roles playing the part of the sneaky woman whose out to seduce your man? So in essence it really isn’t far off from what she’s cast as. Gabby Union has irritated me for a long time. She comes off smug and self centered. That was how I felt even before the cheating allegations surfaced. I think why people don’t hear much about it is bcause they don’t care.
  19. heidi says:
    Once he cheats this will be water under the bridge and not too far down the road.
  20. Sour worms says:
    I never paid much attention to all that drama and all the hate for Gabby b/c it sounded like typical ‘blame everything on the other woman’ crap. But, lets be honest, GU never had much of a career. Her main goal was to snag an athletic and she has achieved that, so she can sit.
    Oh, and another thing, she can’t act. So…yeah, I’m sure that had something to do with it. She plays the same character in every movie b/c she has no range. I say that a lot about people who can’t act but for her it’s 100% true.
    She is gorgeous, though. That should account for something.
    • Aubra says:
      ITA!!
      I never cared much for her as an actress. As for the homewrecker talk, I have only heard most of the repeated stuff that goes around, but nothing confirmed from my “insiders”. The only thing that I have heard as a definite regarding her, Nia Long, and Sanaa Lathan is that the three of them are a sorority of hating b*thes/mean girls. That they can’t stand for other equally or more attractive women to be in their midst, they just go on these suttle tangents and act as though they’re above them…
      I think it was last year, if not the year before another woman basically put her on front street and accused her of sleeping with her husband, but Gabrielle stayed mum and didn’t sue, because as she said, she had children. Who knows what’s really what with her and the whole “homewreker” label?
  21. mar says:
    I have seen her at Heat games, she is very beautiful in person. One of the prettiest I have seen. I do feel bad for his ex however. It sucks to get dumped when your man is on top of the world
  22. RobN says:
    Here’s the basic problem with her, she always comes off sounding like she has a stick up her a**.
    It’s really no more complicated than that. It has nothing to do with color, it has to do with the stick.
    • A Girl Named Mikki says:
      Hahahaaa….parts of me agree with your comment!!
      Saw her on the Craig Ferguson Show and she’s very articulate and beautiful but there’s something going on there psychologically and emotionally that I just can’t seem to place…
      • Naye in VA says:
        She was sexually assaulted when she was younger. Maybe that has something to do with it.
  23. Stacia says:
    I don’t care for her. Her attitude and the way that she thinks that she’s all that. And, yes she is a HOMEWRECKER!
  24. maemay says:
    I like Gabby and find her no more pretentious than Angelina. Gabby is not A-list in the mainstream but in the black community she is well known. Like Angelina she supports causes such as victims of sexual abuse. For those who don’t know Gabby was a victim. No celebrity is perfect and neither is Gabby but her story is more than what is being reported.
  25. Marianne says:
    I think her career went downhill before that. I only really remember her from Bring It On and 10 Things I hate about you. Both movies from like the 1999/2000 time period.
    • gabby12 says:
      Marianne,
      You probably just don’t watch “black” films because Gabrielle has been in a lot of films since 1999/2000.
      Gabrielle’s *very* popular amongst black people in North America.
      • Marianne says:
        I’m not saying she hasn’t made any movies. I just personally dont know what she’s done since then. To me, her career isn’t mainstream.
      • Naye in VA says:
        Its kind of a shame that Black movies are some type of “underground”
        Thats why i dont hate on Tyler Perry
  26. Wendy City says:
    Let’s not forget before D Wade Gabby had a reputation for being out there. She was no ms innocent before all this jumped off (pun intended).
  27. S.joy says:
    To all those saying that she has no career and that she was only in a few movies, check her wikipedia. Almost 20 years of acting. She’s been in alot of movies and tv shows that were successful and popular in the black community. She may not be mainstream but she definitely has a career.
  28. idk says:
    Gabby has a fairly successful acting career. She is doing well for herself. I don’t believe the rumours at all. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders. She is 10 years older than him and is very mature. I think the ex wife is just scorned and maybe delusional thinking Gabby ruined the marriage when it most likely was ruined way before Gabby came into the picture. But I just don’t get why people are so eager to get into a new relationship when they aren’t even divorced yet. Just wait until it’s legally over, then go do whatever you want, jeez.
  29. Lucy2 says:
    I’ve always kind of liked her and thought she was very pretty. I don’t know if there was overlap or not, but she’s the only one I see who keeps talking about it. If they and the kids are happy, great, be happy and stop talking about it in the media.
    I don’t think she would have a huge career either way, but who knows. If she is working steadily, she’s doing better than most who try to make a living with acting.
    • RobN says:
      That’s the weird part. It does seem like she’s the only one still talking about it. When nobody else cares, and she keeps bringing it up, you have to wonder why.
  30. Bunni Wabbit says:
    Gabby didn’t have anything to do with the end of Wade’s marriage. Siovaughn was crazy & was cheating on him. That fact was revealed in court during their divorce proceedings. Wade has sole custody of his children & at this time I don’t think Siovaughn is allowed too see her children. She tried to kidnap then during the NBA finals. I’m not a huge Gabby fan, but I hate to see her vilified.
  31. Cam S says:
    “Gabrielle Union says her career “took a hit” after the homewrecking rumors”
    Good.
    Also, I hate smugness, and that’s how she acted. THAT is what makes people upset, not the actually cheating, but how you handle it.
    And I get so sick of hearing about the crazy ex wife/girlfriend. Being with a cheater WILL MAKE YOU CRAZY. “Well, my ex is crazy anyway”- that is a quote RIGHT OUT OF A CHEATER’S PLAYBOOK. Cheater’s 101
    • Mingy says:
      So true! All of what you said.
      As others have said, she’s seems so full of herself and I’ve always disliked her for that.
  32. pau says:
    the only time i ever see Gabriel Union is when I watch reruns of bring it on TV because there’s nothing else on.
  33. RobN says:
    It’s also quite possible that since she’s going to turn 40 in October, (according to Wiki), that it’s less about her personal life than it is about the fact that 40 year old women with careers based primarily on their looks don’t work a lot in Hollywood.
  34. Shannon says:
    Hahaha…I keep reading the comments and wondering what did Leann Rimes do?
    Anyway, I’m not sure what sort of brand Gabby thought she had. She’s only ever been in one movie I can remember and that is the one with Morris Chestnut. Her star begin to rise along with several other stars of that period, but her days are long gone now.
  35. Nev says:
    don’t cheat.
  36. phoenix says:
    She could do better.
  37. Gabby says:
    NOW I understand why Leann Rimes retweets so many of Gabrielle Union’s tweets. HOMEWRECKER SOLIDARITY.
  38. tru tru says:
    shes not even newsworthy…a show on BET?? another flop, that station needs to give it up.
    watch their numbers this fall, LOL.
  39. TheWayItGoes says:
    Ugh she is pretty but she’s got some major delusions goin on. If anything she’s benefited from a PR stand point hookin up with Wade. If she had any reservations about the relationship she would’ve waited until all the dust settled and then progressed.
    And the “hits” her career have taken are probably due to her attitude. She’s got real mean girl vibes…
  40. Kosmos says:
    Many times, a marriage is on its way out and basically is no longer working, when one partner is open to meeting someone new. The new relationship develops before the previous partners actually divorced. The divorced partner is never happy and is understandably angry and hurt at being left behind. Many times, the partner strays because the marriage was already over for them. The legality of marriage cannot force a partner to love someone they no longer love.
  41. Anon says:
    In the US more than 50% of marriages end in divorce; yet the reasons provided in blogs are straight from the 50’s. Most common-the man’s fault although women cheat in committed relationships cheat as well.
    Facts: 50% of the “other” women in illicit affairs are also married with partners; 56 % of the men do .
    No outsider can wreck a happy home.
    In any former functioning relationship that is ruined both parties are responsible. In Canada there are more single people than couples. it is easir to just date or shack-up.
  42. acs says:
    I guess nobody remembers this but back in 2008 when Dwyane was still married, he and Star Jones were officially a couple for a period of time. Why does nobody ever mention this?
  43. Jill says:
    I don’t think it was that. It is just hard for women of color to get gigs in Hollyweird period. Look at Kim Kardashian…she did a sex tape, is sexualized all over the place and had an affair with Kanye West when he was with that girl Amber, look at Angelina Jolie(I like her by the way) was accused of bringing down Jennifer Aniston’s marriage(no one ever blames the man) and these two women get gigs or sponsors all the time. So I don’t think it was the rumors at all.
  44. A. says:
    She is hands down one of the most beautiful black actresses but she lacks charisma in my opinion.
    • Shannon says:
      Agreed. I was wondering what it was about her. She’s not that bad of an actress, but she never comes off as likable…even when she is trying to be.
  45. K-Love says:
    Stuff like this saddens me. Especially when there are children involved. Sometime you have to let the selfish all about me love go, and let it be about the love, peace of mind and importance of the children. They didn’t ask for this, they didn’t cause this. All they know is their family as they know it is broken up. They didn’t ask for two families and did anyone ask them?I don’t give a rip about DW or GU. All I know is, if it starts out wrong it’s going to end up wrong. Sooner rather than later.
  46. Sarah says:
    I have never seen any candid photos of her, and to my shame I am a regular on gossip blogs/celeb mags. Hell, she hardly features on any best/worst dressed lists!
  47. Meekie says:
    I see we have a lot of pyscologist(sp) on here JUDGING. So what you dont like gabby big deal. Im sure she is crying a river. While you all doing all these hateful comments on someone u dont know, I hope you all life is in perfect order. Cause when u point one finger full of lies, u have three pointing back at you. Just ask his ex. If she wanted dwade she wouldnt move back to another state. If u gonna call gabby a homewrecker then the man she was with is one too. It seems to me her kids should have TOP priority, but she showed that its all about her loosing her meal ticket n trying to make him and his woman look bad cause she knows there are lot of simpleminded people that would beleive lies after lies. The great thing about this is DWADE AND GABBY are living THEIR lives and I suggest you all do the same
