Kristen Stewart went golfing in Malibu with her dad: uncharacteristic or adorable?

These are literally the most bizarre photos I’ve ever come across. Did you know Kristen Stewart is a golfer? I did not. I’m sure the K-Stew super-fans will yell at me for not knowing that. Look, she’s even got a little golfing glove! That’s not what they’re called, though, right? They’re called… driving gloves? I’m not down with the lingo. There was a glove. It was worn. Let’s leave it at that.

Kristen was photographed at the Malibu Golf Club on Friday. Fame Pictures says she was golfing with a “friend” although Us Weekly says for sure she was her dad. I suspect that she probably was with her dad – golfing seems like it’s more of a father-daughter outing than a two-girls outing, although I’m sure that statement will get the “OMG, FEMINISM! GOLF!!!” crowd riled up. I just don’t think a self-styled hipster girl of 22 would choose to golf with a friend, but she would totally go with her dad.

Kristen didn’t wear golf shoes either – she wore those Vibram FiveFingers shoes. I’ve been wondering about them for a while – I really, really want to try a pair on, but I’ve never had the chance. Do they feel weird if you have hyper-sensitive feet? Do they offer any kind of arch-support? Yes, I am an old fart. Don’t say it.

And in case you’re a Twihard worried about the state of Sparkles and Kristen (“She’s golfing because she’s a lesbian and she’s going to break Rob’s heart and he’ll be too devastated to even BREATHE!!!!!”), you should know that Kristen and Rob were spotted out and about on Thursday night in LA. They went to Hotel Café where they saw their friend Bobby Long play, and a source tells Us Weekly, “They were really mellow. They’re a cute couple.”

Not sure why this would be bizarre- it’s the kind of thing kids can do with their parents. I know she’s a woman, but when you have the habit of it, you still do it later on. Golf can be relaxing for some people, but I’m not one of them.

    • Genevieve says:

No joke…bizarre? I spent the majority of my childhood and adulthood playing golf with my Dad in Pinehurst, N.C. All people DID there was play golf, it’s what our sleepy little village was known for!

I only wish he had been healthy enough to play 18, or even 9 holes with me as he aged. I lost him just this last February, but I treasure the memories of just the two of us, driving up the fairway on a beautiful day, and either laughing or cursing depending on the shot, lol.

I think it’s sweet and charming. I’m glad to see KS has that kind of wholesome relationship with her father. It makes me miss my sweet Daddy, looking at these pictures…and makes me like KS even more 🙂

      • Amy says:

I’m so sorry for your loss, Genevieve. That’s a really lovely memory to have of him, though.

  2. Megan says:

The five fingers are great to run in, because you have to use proper form. My arches feel fine wearing them

    • the original bellaluna says:

Why do they call them “Five Fingers” when they’re obviously Five Toes?

      • Jamie says:

you mean 10 toes? right? I hope you have 10 toes. I saw a lady with 11 toes and a third nipple once.Just thought I would share.celebitchy.com

    • beyonce's bump says:

still trying to break into my vibrams, I still have a hard time running in them without experience foot pain days later. Walking though, its great!

      • amelia says:

I thought they were some new kind of surf shoe to begin with. I’ve been after bare foot shoes for ages now..

      • Echo says:

I would suggest easing into Vibrams for running by running in minimalist sneakers such as Nike Frees first.

      • Wachick83 says:

Love the five fingers. I feel primal wearing them, and they’ve done wonders for strengthening my feet and calves.

I think that they’re more structured than people think, but don’t provide much support. Granted, I don’t know much about feet, so I don’t really know what a supportive shoe really feels like.

    • phlyfiremama says:

I love love love my Keen’s~best shoes EVER! They help me with my bunions, plantar fascitis, and a high instep~ they might be ugly, but my feet look at other shoes and say “NO”.

      • Megan says:

They definitely take time to break in 🙂 but they have allowed me to increase my running distance significantly without knee pain

  3. TexTRex says:

She was on George Lopez awhile back and it was the only time I’ve actually liked her for about 10 minutes. Her father was the “Key Grip” on the GLS. He wouldn’t even leave his post he is so humble.

Just as low-key of a guy as you’d ever meet. Then she spoke…

  4. MoxyLady007 says:

I have super high arches and I got the merrell barefoot runners – which don’t have the separate toes but the premise is the same. They take time to get used to. Your feet use different muscles when you are barefoot but I love them and I never want to go back.

  5. Jen34 says:

The only bizarre thing is her choice of clothing. I thought that country clubs had dress codes.

  6. marie says:

It’s cute..my dad tried teaching me golf but got pissed off and sent me to the car after I couldn’t hit the ball off the tee..

  7. lory says:

    ADORABLE

  8. mel says:

Love it! Wish I had a Dad who chose to spent time with me.

    • Chris: now with 10% less negativity says:

I wish I had kids who wanted to do stuff with me that I found interesting. But oh no, it’s all about them.

      • Chattycat says:

@Chris..funny, may depend on the age and gender. My three boys have always definately had their own things going but have also done many things with me without embarrassment…movies,Phillies games, jet skiing, the boardwalk, sitting on the beach…and now that there older the two over 21 year olds will ask me to meet them for happy hour sometimes and they even pay!

      • Stephanie says:

Revenge will be sweet. Grandkids will make it all about you and your kids will become the uncool.

      • Naye in VA says:

Well then make it about you! The crap i didnt want to do with my parents (mom specifically) when i was young, i learned to value later. Its takes some real life for you to value the moments where your parents were showing you themselves. So just do it! and dont complain that they are complaining, just have fun and they’ll catch on.

    • The Original Denise says:

      Me too. This is adorable.

  9. Jess says:

It’s cute. She has said in a lot of interviews that she plays golf with her dad as much as she can. They have a regular game. The course was probably just a casual beach course in Malibu, not a club.

  10. jay says:

She always credits her parents for keeping her grounded and out of trouble in young hollywood. It is good to see her with her dad and she is such a natural beauty. Adorable!!!

  11. croc says:

    that creepy shoes!

  12. Dana says:

My favorite sneakers with a separate toe is the Nike air “Rift”. Amazing arch support. I have high arches and I actually feel the support in the shoe so I don’t have to add my own.

  13. Sara says:

She is the antithesis of adorable. She looks like a bitch and that clothing is tragic.

  14. nina says:

I bet those shoes are great for functional reasons, but god, they are so ugly to me. Daddy-daughter outings are sweet though, even if ugly shoes are involved.

  15. gee_gee says:

Corrected headline: “Kristen Stewart Golfs with her Dad”. The other part does not make any sense.

I don’t understand the whole “A Famous Person Does a Thing. Shocking or Not Even Newsworthy?” headlines.

    • My Darling Pinkett says:

      +1

    • Embee says:

And to really nitpick, I should point out that “golf” is not a verb. One can “play golf”, but one does not “golf”. It’s like saying you “crew”; no, you don’t: you “row crew”. (I once dated a golf pro; he schooled me on this).

  16. MrsBpitt says:

Golfing makes me curse like a sailor…had to give it up! Anytime I see parent/kid outings, I think, good for them (except when Dina clubs with LL, then I think SKANKS)…

  17. lila says:

Vibrams are awesome. If I’m not dressy, they are what I’m in. And no, there is not arch support. Your arches should be self supporting:) vibrams (and other minimal footwear) help build the muscles your feet should naturally have. Born to Run has a pretty good breakdown on the increase in injuries as shoes have gotten more padded. Fascinating stuff.

  18. I.want.shoes says:

The only way I would be caught wearing those shoes is if they make me look thinner with bigger and perkier boobs. Otherwise, forget it.

    • Ursaline says:

Second! I think I’d agree to wear nearly anything that made me look thinner with perkier boobies! 😀

  19. Cleveland Girl says:

WTF is this?? There is no way any respectable Golf or Country Club would allow that clothing or shoes on the course. She may be absolutely adorable and successful, but it is plain disrespectful to play golf in that outfit.

    • jay says:

People go golfing in shorts and T-shirts all the time. Cleveland Girl sounds like a jealous hag.

      • Cleveland Girl says:

I am not jealous in the least. I golf all of the time. There is a certain etiquette when on a golf course. It sounds like you don’t play the sport so i understand your ignorance.

      • jay says:

Most Public courses dont have a dress code. This was a public course. Google it. You look jealous and petty when you judge someones outfit for no valid reason. And yes I do golf quite often.

    • carey says:

Malibu Golf Club is a public course, I’ve been there before. It’s just an older golf course that you can golf at for pretty cheap actually. No need to dress up for golf there,it’s super mellow.

      • Cleveland Girl says:

Jay I agree with you completely. You look completely jealous and petty for judging me. I am entitled to my opinion. And I also said she was adorable and successful. I am a Kristen fan. I think her outfit is hideous, SHE is lovely.

    • A says:

I’m super into golfing…have golfed in several different states and in a few foreign countries while on vacation. I live in LA, and a lot of people dress like that to play the public courses. The shoes are hideous, but the outfit is fine. I am aware it can be different in other areas though. Family friends from Atlanta golfed with me once, and they were horrified by how people were dressed. Based on that and what I’ve seen, I believe LA is far more lax…I’ve seen people golf in chucks and jeans on public courses even.

      • Cleveland Girl says:

Interesting! Thanks for the info. I have never golfed in LA. If I do, I will dress more relaxed.

  20. Nance says:

    She looks bored.

  21. LittleDeadGirl says:

Nice she spends time with her family. She seems like the kind of girl that would be close to her dad. I like her casual duds too.

I have no idea how comfortable the shoes are but they freak me the hell out. They look sooo weird. I couldn’t even bring myself to try them on.

  22. JB says:

Most golf courses have strict dress policies: I can’t believe that outfit passed.

  23. MC says:

Even public golf courses generally have dress codes! Collared shirt, nice shorts and golf shoes.

  24. MerryHappy says:

She’s golfing because she’s a lesbian and will break Robert’s sparkle-heart! Quick, someone get the tacky glue and the glitter! Move, people, move! This is NOT a drill!

  25. Turtle Dove says:

Well…. Isn’t someone getting pap friendly now that the Twilights are done filming? Golf pictures… Holding hands with Rob in public, posing hard in her shorts….

  26. DottieDot says:

Her attire is totally inappropriate for a golf course – how did she get away with that? Show some respect for the course and game girl!

  27. Mina says:

I think golfing is f’n stupid. Lamest “sport” ever invented. but aren’t there dress codes or something?

  28. A says:

I think it’s pretty normal to go spend time with your parents, be it golfing or eating or doing anything.

For the people bitching about her outfit, khaki shorts, a t-shirt, and sneakers are fine for a public course in Los Angeles. I grew up in LA, went to high school in LA, and went to college in LA. I’ve played golf since I was a young kid and was a member of the varsity golf team in high school. So I’m very familiar with golf etiquette. She’s dressed fine for a public course (not for a country club though). I’ve golfed in other areas of the country, so I suppose one could say that would be considered improper in the South…but in LA, it’s fine.

Anyway, if anyone lives in the LA area I would recommend going to the Malibu course that she is at. It’s cheap, beautiful, and a fairly easy course. Strangely, it’s never been a super popular course. I suspect it’s because many people who live in the area belong to the country club so they don’t golf at the public course, and other people don’t want to drive all the way to Malibu or do not even realize there is a good public course there.

  29. the original bellaluna says:

My father would not be caught dead on a golf course, private or public, with any of my kids dressed like that! (My oldest has golfed since 3 or 4, and he ALWAYS had proper attire, shoes, gloves, and clubs.)

And my dad’s golfed at St. Andrews!

    • A says:

It’s a public course and I’ve golfed there several times. I’m really puzzled at all the people losing their shit over her outfit…it’s fine for a public golf course. Hell, I’ve worn similar outfits when golfing at public courses in LA and in the surrounding area. Actually, last week (I golf frequently) I wore navy shorts and a band t-shirt. Totally different situation at private courses, though. The only thing I would lose my shit over are the horrible sneakers. No self-respecting golfer would wear those things (shudder).

      • CTgirl says:

I suspect the issue is that there appear to be different clothing expectations based on geography. I’ve been to golf courses (both public and private) across the country, but not LA, and KStew wouldn’t have been allowed on those courses in cutoff shorts and a without proper golf shoes. However, it sounds like LA has different dress code expectations.

  30. catfromfla says:

I have no opinion on golf dress codes but this makes me want to play goonie golf.

  31. Michele says:

How sad that some must focus on and criticize Kristen’s attire instead of appreciating a nice father-daughter moment. Why can’t some of you reserve your critical judgement just this one time and allow the girl to enjoy her downtime with her father free of criticism?

    • Jess says:

I agree. The girl was out on a public course near the beach with her dad having a little fun. She’s not naked, she’s not showing her boobs or her ass. It’s crazy the reasons people find to pick on her. She’s damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t. There are actual bad people in the world, and for some there is no one more evil than harmless Kristen Stewart.

      • Michele says:

How dare she! What a terrible, ungrateful person Kristen is for not wearing “proper” golf attire on a public course and she’s not smiling at the paps! Off with her head at once!

    • another nina says:

M-me Michelle: How sad that I have to remind you again and again that it’s a free country and people are allowed to have an opinion whether you like it or not. I find her shoes creepy, however, I’m not sure that my observation affects stew’s enjoying her downtime with her dad. I’m also not sure why you choose preaching at gossip website but then again – you are a local enigma…

      • E says:

Another Nina, shut the hell up. God, we know you have the right to say whatever you want but common respect goes a long way. What the hell has Kristen Stewart done wrong now? Spend the day with her father and not dressed as you would expect ( by the way no boobs or ass hanging out) and she must be insulted). Why can’t people just appreciate what the original writer is saying and shut the hell up with the negative undeserved comments.

      • ORLY says:

E – and your comment to Another Nina was totally respectful, wasn’t it? Where do you get off? Nina’s comment wasn’t even bad, her response to Michele was because of Michele’s history on this board, which clearly you are unaware of.

Why are you so angry, girl?

      • another nina says:

What’s up E? Missed your medications? What do I owe to all this hysterics? Nevertheless, I have to repeat myself that I do mildly hate stew’s shoes and some of us do hate her shorts. So what? How does this make me evil and how does it affect stew’s quality time with her father? What is it about stew that makes you guys loose your marbles?

      • E says:

Not lost my marbles as you call it. One can only take your brand of snark so far.

      • another nina says:

E – I’d say you are in a denial about your marbles. Please take good care of yourself, keep posting your gems and – who knows – you might eventually join Michelle as a treasure of this forum. So far, she is beyond competition!

  32. bea says:

Golf clothing can be so cute – why frog shoes?

  33. kiki says:

i like kristen. nothing against her. her fans on the other hand? yeah…..

  34. Pamnbr says:

Kristen golfing….not new. She played a good bit while here in Baton Rouge filming Twilight’s Breaking Dawn.

  35. sallyreo says:

I think that she is adorable. She can do no wrong for me. I admire her for not caring what we think about what she wears and how she looks. She is her own person, living the life she wants to live. Apparantly, she dresses for herself and does not care what we think.
Good for her! Who are we to judge her,
she is the highest paid actress in Hollywood. She can afford not to care.

    • My Darling Pinkett says:

“Who are we to judge her,
she is the highest paid actress in Hollywood. She can afford not to care.”

I’m sure you didn’t mean it this way, but it still irks me. What does it matter that she’s richer than the rest of us? It doesn’t make her better than anyone else, and it doesn’t mean we should refrain from criticizing her. Everyone gets criticized, and when you put yourself in the spotlight over and over again, you open yourself up to it. She’s not a child who needs to be protected from what people are saying about her, and she’s not better than you or me because she’s the highest paid actress.

      • another nina says:

Bravo! Finally, a voice of reason. I’m so tired of these arguments that she is richer than us, so we are not allowed to have an opinion about her.

      • geekychick says:

I don’t get what her money has to do with people’s right to criticize…but I agree on everything else the original comment was about. I’ll criticize her for her stupid comment about raping-no, no I won’t, she apologized..I’ll criticize if I find something that really irks me….but a girl being with her dad and dressing however she wants, in her downtime? who cares. i don’t own her, her clothing choices (outside of red carpet) or her down-time. now, madonna performing on Poland’s WWII day? That I’d love to discuss!

      • My Darling Pinkett says:

        @geekychick

I agree. I don’t care that she’s golfing with her dad or that she’s dressed like a slob or that this is a photo op (she’s an actress, you expect these things), but the money thing bothered me in the original comment. I’m sure our opinions of Kristen Stewart differ, and that’s fine, but her wealth doesn’t excuse her of anything or make her somehow perfect. It doesn’t excuse anyone who is wealthy.

Also, Madonna. Ugh! Don’t get me started! 😛

  36. Moooooooo says:

More to the point, why is she holding a putter and looking into the middle distance as if she’s just swung through? Me thinks that she’s got all the gear but no idea – girl can’t be a regular golfer.

  37. AmandaPanda says:

More to the point, why is she holding a putter and looking into the middle distance as if she’s just swung through? Me thinks that she’s got all the gear but no idea – girl can’t be a regular golfer.

  38. Hm says:

She looks so cute and normal!

  39. Elizabeth Rose says:

I used to live on a golf course and I just have to say that if she was anyone else she wouldn’t be let on the course wearing that.

  40. poiup says:

mmmmmmmmmm she’s got sexy silky pins

  41. Love says:

God do we have no lives ?!!? All this arguing over jean shorts . Seriously, let’s go read some books or do something better than over analyze jean shorts people

  42. Jocelina says:

Aw, I think she looks adorable.

And Kaiser, I have a pair of Vibrams and I LOVE them. As someone said earlier, they force you to have good form when you run. However, you do have to kind of ease into using them. There’s some helpful tips/information on the Vibram website, including some exercises you can do before you start wearing them to strengthen the muscles used in barefoot running.

  43. dizzy says:

Wow, some people really are hung up on what she’s wearing, lol. I live in LA, but I don’t golf, so I really have no idea. I don’t see anything wrong, although those shoes I don’t like.

  44. MJ says:

Would it KILL her to brush her hair before she leaves the house? And, I dont know, wear somewhat descent clothes that don’t say “i dont give a fqu!”?
Someone please tell me – Is it a hipster thing to look like a dirty scumbag?

  45. bettyrose says:

There is something so average and uninspiring about this girl. Is she really the highest paid female entertainer in the world? Gawd, next to her Lady Gaga is a freakin’ creative genius.

    • another nina says:

Kristen Stewart is a sad triumph of mediocrity, and Gaga is just a discounted replication of Madonna circa her creative years…I doubt we have a real It-girl these days.

      • lola says:

Madonna is a great recycler herself, it didn’t start with her. And Kristen STewart was a teen indie darling who stumbled upon a hit franchise. I think it’s a bit early to decide she’s a finished product at 22, she has an interesting resume so far outside of twilight. Maybe she’ll make her mark in years to come, maybe she won’t. But mediocrity to me is more of the reality star level. Stewart at least has done some interesting work with some of the most respected directors today.

  46. alexis says:

    She makes golfing look…depressing.

  47. Jill says:

Seems like some people have no fathers. At least her dad spends time with her. So what she looks disheveled and homely, she’s got enough money to do so.

    • another nina says:

“Seems like some people have no fathers.” …And this makes your heart sing? you use this statement as an insult to other people???
Wow, no wonder stew is a neurotic and is scared to death of the crowd of her own stans…

  48. ` says:

I couldn’t hate those shoes more…in general…they gave me the creeps

  49. MK yarwood says:

lol @ FEMINISM!! GOLF!!! The two are barely related. Did anyone check out the Sports Illustrated with real, nude, female athletes in it? Now there is some feminism (no, not really) in action.

  50. Embee says:

I’ve run in Vibrams or minimalist shoes since I read that Christopher McDougal book about running with the indigenous people in Mexico. (Born to Run?)

Anyway, the premise is that you’ll rebuild the muscles in your foot if you don’t coddle them with arch supports and such. It worked for me, and my feet shrunk about a size because the arches “lifted.”

I don’t always like the spreading of my toes that the Vibrams cause, and so prefer other minimalist choices (Nike Free, Merrell and Brooks make good ones).

  51. Chickie Baby says:

Had to be a public golf course, judging from her fabulous attire. Love the public courses—sometimes the fashion show is better than the playing.

But good for her. Maybe the golf will help her continue to outgrow her awkward twitchiness she’s finally losing.

  52. deadpool says:

As I type this I am in vibrams I have various models and all of them replaced my sneakers years ago. I walk in the malls wearing them, house, work, everywhere. I never looked back and never experienced any pain because before them I had a habit of running around barefooted. I can’t stand shoes save for boots – but vibram have boots now too!

  53. Miss Thang says:

Woot for the Bobby Long reference!!
She looks terrible and depressed and like she never matured past 16. It’ll be interesting to see what she’s up to at 30.

  54. Rory says:

She looks depressed in these pics. And now we know why. She must have known what was coming in a couple of days. I can’t believe she did something so stupid.

  55. Tia says:

It’s not the first time we hear about Kristen golfing with her dad. He taught her and they play often. She just hasn’t made a big deal out of it. In an appearance at the George’s show she received a new set of clubs, and she spoke about golfing with her dad. I don’t know why people find it unusual. She grew up in a household of guys.
