Justin Bieber & his Beliebers at the Teen Choice Awards: scary & inappropriate?

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber strutted his manly, swaggy-adult self at yesterday’s Teen Choice Awards with a bunch of his Beliebers in tow. Naturally, there’s not much to say about his outfit, but the designer ID appears to be Douche & Douchier. At least he had the decency to pull up his pants (from what I can see). What’s much more disturbing and worthy of comment is the sampling of Justin’s rabid fanbase that flanked him on the red carpet. These girls looked to be between the ages of 6-12, and short hemlines were a definite must among them all. As for the makeup … well, that’s not simply stage makeup, and I’ll just leave it at that.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez went for short and sweet on her 20th birthday with a hot pink Dsquared Resort minidress. She looks both grown up and youthful in this dress and pairs the simple outfit with Herve Leger by Max Azria sandals. Those new hair extensions are a bit much, but her hairstylist went sleek, which compliments the dress’ silhouette. Is it just me though … or does her face look a wee bit tweaked? Maybe it’s the makeup.

Selena Gomez

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato went for a sort-of Cleopatra vibe at last night’s event with a Falguni & Shane Peacock geometric mini dress that (as Red Carpet Fashion Awards points out) originally was also adorned with a leather harness during its runway incarnation. All of those feathers are a bit much, but I dig those black Christian Louboutin Exagona platform sandals. Demi wore the look with confidence and topped off with a high ponytail (with massive extensions) and kohl-rimmed eyes. She over did it a bit with the self-tanner but, strangely enough, pulls off the look as a whole.

Demi Lovato

Miranda Cosgrove

Miranda Cosgrove wore a mini-skirted Collette Dinnigan dress with Stella McCartney shoes. She’s a cute girl and has the figure to pull off a dress like this, but her makeup and hair were both very bland and didn’t fit the “edgy” vibe of the silver color she chose for her appearance.

Victoria Justice

Victoria Justice made a relatively unusual choice with this fly-away, mulleted Gomez-Gracia dress. I’m definitely not crazy about the mock turtleneck or the animal print of the fabric and — let’s face it — this is one fugly dress. The center-parted, flat-ironed hairstyle also seemed out of place, and those nude-colored heels can’t go away fast enough.

    He is taking estrogen…

…oh my, those prostitots around him!

    • kim w says:

RIGHT! The girl in the orange with the heels all I could think was…WHO IS YOUR MOTHER?! Do you even have one?

      • Chicagogurl17 says:

Oh my god, I’m that old also. My first thought was — did you come from a family of gypsies? If not, why is your mother allowing you to look like a child bride?

      • gg says:

I see false eyelashes on at least two of them. The moms need to cool it with the grownup makeup.

    • Mimi says:

The gils in the pic wit JB are on a show called Dance Moms. I’m kind of ashamed that I know that lol.

      • yoyo says:

That explains a lot….unfortunately it’s like the dance version of Toddler’s and Tiara’s. Sad, very very sad.

    • Carolyn says:

Prostitots!? I just snorted with laughter 🙂 Having just seen the hysteria when Bieber performed on stage at Australia’s Got (No) Talent I understand the screaming and devotion. I was a teenage Duranie myself. Having these girls pose on the carpet like that is just so try hard. PS Selena looks gorgeous – when is she going to tire of him and get a real boyfriend?
      PPS Demi looks really well!

    • itsjustme says:

Those are the Dance Mom Girls

  2. HannahF says:

The girls with Justin are the dancers from Dance Moms.

    • innocentangel81 says:

I was trying to figure out why they looked familiar, I watch it every week and it still took a minute

    • Erinn says:

Was just about to post that. It terrifies me that I recognized them so quickly. Guilty pleasure showwww.

    • the original bellaluna says:

Well, that explains the garish make-up. *rolls eyes*

  3. Eleonor says:

Bringin fans with him could have been a nice gesture…but why did he choose those children (he and his pr team could have opted for some more age-appropriate girls), and why they were dressed like prostitutes, it’s beyond reasonable.

    • whatthehell456 says:

Agreed. Wasn’t he just in a magazine talking about how “manly” he is now? Then he shows up with a bunch of children. Children. Children who are attempting to look way too old for their age. Creepy.

      • Ann Emmess says:

It’s awful on a cosmic scale. This is the age he appeals to, right? And some team (his?) must have done the girls’ makeup or they wouldn’t all have the “black pits of doom” eye makeup that seems to have struck everyone at the event.

So he’s got his inappropriately adult 7-12-y-os, who are all glowing with a pure happiness that I’m sure would look lovely if they just washed their faces. They’re adorably un-phony under the slap.

But the cognitive dissonance…they’re tarted up for an 18-year-old who comes across like he’s 14. Which is what makes him so safe and appealing to them. I guess I never thought about girls this age wanting to slap on their best adult face to meet their favorite star of Bieber’s type.

I’m sure the actual girls were fine with it because they felt glamorous. I’m sure their moms had a collective conniption fit. I just think it’s hilariously odd that Bieber’s team, I assume, would get their wires so crossed.

ETA: oh, the Dance Moms thing puts it all in place. The picture is still mixed signals, but it’s not Team Bieber’s control if the girls dressed up under their own steam.

    • cmc says:

See Hannah’s response. Those are the Dance Moms girls, and they generally wear heavy makeup/short dresses on stage. Also they were all invited to the show (including Abby the dance teacher.)

Love that Kendall is there. She’s “out” of the group now, right? And yes, I watch the show, and no I’m not ashamed of it (sort of…)

      • Eleonor says:

I’ll give him a pass for this, but that children are still dressed like little prostitutes, and out there there are a lot of pervs who are happy to see them.

    • Tiffany says:

He went with the 6-12 year olds because they make him look TALLER!

What is with the pimping out of little girls on red carpets? First Katy Perry with her 10 year old with cupcakes on her breasts, and now this?

      PLEASE STOP SEXUALIZING LITTLE GIRLS!

  4. stop the madness says:

One of the girls in the picture with him has a longer dress. It looks age appropriate. They look too young for make up.

  5. dee says:

    He is so ugly.

  6. Wiser says:

I believe the girls are the dancers from the Dance Moms reality show, which is why they look like mini-tarts.

  7. Jess says:

Demi Lovato has a really beautiful face. I saw her on Grey’s Anatomy recently and she was just so darn pretty. I don’t know why she has to be so done up. She’s a gorgeous girl natutally.

  8. jano1981 says:

On the last Bieber post I said I still think its mean to make fun of him for looking like a girl or lesbian. I wasn’t clear its fine to make fun of him, he’s a little butthead anymore it seems. I just hate to think of all boys that haven’t developed feeling worse about it because they know what is said about this kid. But yeah. I agree with everyone who said most kids, like my 17 year old nephew, look way older. I would feel for girls that hadn’t gotten boobs yet if it was popular to say a 18 year old girl Singer looked like a boy cause she didn’t look as developed. I’m just overly sensitive about kids feelings maybe.

    • Nicole says:

I agree, I’m no fan of him, but the types of insults hurled at him are really uncomfortable for me.

I also find it sad that on gossip sites frequented mostly by women that the ultimate insult is that he looks like a girl or a lesbian. That those are the 2 worst things imaginable.

He’s a teenage boy, make fun of his outfits or his words…bearing in mind that a lot of teenage boys are equally immature at that age…but to point and laugh at his physical development…come on ladies, you’re smarter than that.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Listen-I don’t pick on his appearance but really how is it worse than calling JA “Maniston”?
Nobody wants to be told that they look like the opposite gender but it’s just kind of the way it goes around here on celeb gossip sites. No, it’s not right but it’s not just a “Bieber-specific” insult.

      • Jano1981 says:

Thanks Nicole! I think people haven’t thought about that aspect. As mean as it sounds its not about him and his feelings but for other slow developers even though they are probably the minority. If I though it just affected him though I might say have at! He seems so entitled lately. A friend who teaches at a school he visited told me some nice stories that had made me feel warm and fuzzy for a quick minute toward him. Then I read post that included the fact of him hitting a golf ball toward paps while golfing with interviewers. Nice! He needs a reality check and a chill pill. 🙂

      • Jano1981 says:

The only diffence Original is that im talking about high schoolers, not grown women. As grown women we can take it!! 🙂 Again feel free. But I have plenty to make fun of otherwise. It is just my opinion. I will not join in is all.

      • Nicole says:

Hey original…I almost included the “Maniston” thing in my comment actually. I also think that is pretty horrible honestly, but I agree with jano about the age thing, it makes me uncomfortable on a different level. And something about using “lesbian” as an insult goes further than just calling him feminine or girly, or Aniston manish (again, I don’t like those either!).

And I know, I know…it’s celebitchy, but the tagline is also that escapism can be smart and sometimes I think the attacks go a little far. As everyone has pointed out, he has a ton of other things that we could be deriding him for 🙂

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I agree with both of you ladies. You won’t hear (or I guess “read”) me using “lesbian” as an insult, just like I wouldn’t use “gay” in a derogatory context. I try to actively avoid harshing on people for their appearance, period, but I will say that clothing/fashion choices are fair game 😉

      • Sandra says:

FINALLY!!! It’s about time someone said something. To make fun of him ‘looking like a girl’ is not bitchy fun, it is just plain mean. On the one hand this site promotes tolerance of the gay and lesbian community, and on the other hand it’s considered fun to label people as such in an effort to demean them. NOT cool.

  9. RocketMerry says:

Those poor poor little girls. I mean, my idols as a young girl were Yogi and Booboo, and still those two had more virility and testosterone than the Bieb.

  10. MissDK says:

I wouldn’t let any of my daughters (if I had any) near that ‘thing’. But then again, my daughters would probably not even make it out of the door looking like THAT.

  11. marie says:

Umm, did he request that, or just pick some fans out of the crowd? Cause if he requested that, its makes him extra douchey..Girls are trying to grow up way to fast, slow it down-enjoy your youth!! (wow, that makes me sound really old-I’m not, but my mom would have kicked my butt if I ever wore something like that at so young an age)

  12. Cahend says:

The girls are from the cast of Dance Moms and took a few pics with Beiber on the red carpet.

  13. lower-case deb says:

that get-up really doesn’t do victoria justice. too bad, since she’s really beautiful. and those legs! wow. i’m sooo envious right now.

  14. Lucy2 says:

    That is downright creepy.

  15. aqua says:

i like victoria dress. her legs looks stunning.

    • deehunny says:

I also like Victoria’s dress. As I was reading the post, everything that was listed was everything that I liked.

I usually don’t like mullet dresses but it must be the wind in the picture because I it looks so pretty.

  16. hatsumomo says:

Oh My God! I cant believe the way those little girls are dressed! And dont even begin to explain to me that it was a once-in-a-lifetime treat for the girls and lay off, the little girl on the right end is wearing platform wedges higher than most of mine! The only appropriate looking one is the little black girl in the middle-looks like she’s wearing a princess play dress and her face isnt covered in a pound of makeup. By posing with only the “sexist” looking little girls Beiber is making himself douchier and douchier. Its a gross all around looking picture.

    • cmc says:

Not that it’s much better, but the girl all the way on the right is 14 (maybe 15 by now?). Brooke from dance moms.

  17. Patricia says:

Well if he’s a man now then he’s apparently a pedophile. Those “fans” are children. Maybe not the message he wants to be putting out if he wants to be respected as a musician and performer. Of course if it’s just about raking in the dough he’s right on target.

  18. Cathy says:

Breaking out the washcloths and hot soapy water. Those young girls are way to young to be dressed up and made up like that. Clean your faces up girls. There will be plenty of time for makeup when you get older.

  19. MK Yarwood says:

No. NO. He is quickly becoming my number one loathing.

  20. Blue says:

Selena’s face looks off and very puffy. She has chipmunk cheeks but this is off.
I like Victoria and Miranda’s outfits, though miranda looks like she’s about to per on the carpet.

  21. v says:

The first picture makes me sad.

  22. lower-case deb says:

by the way, out of curiosity.
these girls are definitely fans of bieber, (huge or not, i don’t know).
do you think they’ll realize the error of their ways say if bieber say something along the lines of “say, i think you shouldn’t be dressing this way, imho…” and give more age-appropriate style tips.

do you think it’s appropriate for bieber to make comments like that, or is it too intrusive?

or maybe bieber’s PR team would have better sense not to have their guy have his picture taken with these girls.

personally, i would never let my daughter dress up like that. she’ll have an opportunity to do so when she’s grown up. maybe i’m crudgy crusty old lady, but kids, please don’t grow up too quickly. you’ll have allll the time in the world later, but childhood, you’ll never get it back.

and someone with bieber’s star power should use it to influence something good in today’s youths. i mean, his fans are so hardcore they take his words and gestures as gospel sometimes. see, this picture can send out all the wrong signals (in this case: as though bieber likes these kinds of girls and then all the belibers would dress that way).

gosh. i hope i’m not steering my kids down this path. i live in fear every day.

  23. Jano1981 says:

Eye makeup on little girls is so creepy. I hate it. I would never let my daughter be photographed like that. And most of the outfits!!! Strapless Dress at perhaps 12?? You know what kind of people like to see little girls like this ?????? Being a parent you have to realize what horrors are out there in the world and protect them. This seems like unneeded danger and exposure. Gross parenting.

  24. Lairen says:

As somebody who is in their 20’s and childless, I honestly don’t see how these girls look ‘prostitutey.’ They were at a special event and wanted to dress special for it. They don’t look like they were trying to be sexy to me, they just look like they wanted to step it up for an awards show and wanted to look special. I don’t know. Maybe I’m too unknowledgeable since I don’t have any kids of my own.

  25. GrandPoobah says:

Bedhead: While they probably are fans of Bieber’s, they are the girls from Dance Moms, not random fans chosen to pose with him.

If that were the case, it would be weird and creepy but as they are on their own show and are aspiring dancers, it isn’t odd that they are posing with him. Chances are they were invited to the show because of Dance Moms, not because of Bieber.

I do have issues with most of their outfits but they look like little girls dressed up. They wear a lot of makeup on stage so it’s old hat for them so that doesn’t bother me as much.

The one on the far right is probably 15 by now, by the way.

  26. Lbeees says:

Just got my copy of Rolling Stone with Beiber on the cover. Honestly, the actual article makes him look so much worse than the recap y’all posted on here.

He is so, so, so immature. Like a young 14, not the “18-year-old man” he claims to be. He and his agent(?) are playing golf when Justin misses a shot and “demands a mulligan.” then he makes a better shot and jumps around shouting swag, swaggy. He knows nothing about where his money is except that it’s “like, in trusts and stuff.”

And he had no idea what the Sistene Chapel was, calling it the Sixteenth Chapel. And then he is too butt hurt to admit he made a mistake. “I knew what it was…it was a joke.”

Locks a producer in a closet and puts his hand in someone else’s cake. Then Justin’s agent blames the producer for not putting Justin in line!

Absolutely ridiculous. Right in the rubbish bin.

    • A says:

Holy Shit. The poor woman who was the star of CSI brought up the cake/closet incident on the radio several months ago. Bieber’s people either accused her of lying or taking it out of context, can’t remember the exact wording. If Rolling Stone says that it was all true though, do I feel bad for her. She got slammed for just telling the truth.

  27. gg says:

Lovato’s overplucked teardrop shaped eyebrows and 80s styling drive me to distraction. Do not like!

  28. I Choose Me says:

Dance Mom girls or not most of those little girls are wearing too much makeup. In fact I’d say every girl featured with the exception of Miranda is wearing too much spackle.

  29. Jill says:

Amazingly some of the Disney actors are wearing less make up than the dance tot kids or whoever they are. I see a couple with light makeup and dressed ok.

  30. Luffy says:

I used to like Demi, but so much tanner and such really heavy make up and that dress is really awful for her figure. I feel like she’s becoming a little Christina or something.

  31. HannahF says:

I’m a closet Dance Moms watcher as well although I can take only so much of Abby’s boorish behavior. With respect to the girls’ makeup–it looks like they bought a Kardashian how to makeup book. I don’t think their dresses are THAT bad. Granted, the girls on the right side have dresses that are a wee bit shobut I’ve seen much worse. Interestingly enough, the mother of the girl with the long dress is the only normal mom in

  32. KMD says:

It is the Dance Moms girls 🙂 I love them…. Justin not so much

  33. HannahF says:

Damn posting VIA phone!! It should say short but… Also, the sane mom is a school principal.

  34. skuddles says:

    Go away little girl….

  35. Feebee says:

The only thing inapp. for me the size of the heel on the girl on the right. It looks like they’re all dressed for the event, whether that constitutes stage makeup I don’t know.

Selena looks great in that dress. Finally something age appropriate AND well fitted and not ‘what was she thinking’. Am I naive in asking why would an oft-photographed 20 year old tweak her face? I don’t she has… I think we’ll see changes from growth, she is only 20.

  36. fancyamazon says:

All I have to say about that is this….they are started early on clogging their pores, and that must suit Beiber just fine. I saw his proactive ad on TV today.

  37. Beatriz says:

Whoa, what’s up with Selena’s face, it looks way puffier than before

    • skuddles says:

I keep seeing recent pics of her with a much rounder face. She’s obviously gained some weight, you can see it in her arms and thighs as well, but why? She’s usually very disciplined with her figure. I know it’s bad but I can’t help but wonder… preggers??

  38. kellyinseattle says:

Too sad/terrible….that new study showed that girls begin at age 6 to worry about being sexy.

    • skuddles says:

Dear jeebus, are you serious??? I had a hard time remembering to put on a shirt until I was about 6 (little hippy tomboy girl), and now children that age are worrying about being “sexy”???

  39. LOTRdork says:

I just realized that Selena Gomez is the same age as Kate Upton… weird to think about lol

  40. Booknerd says:

What you may not know is that dancers wear a lott of make up because it is easier to see their faces while they perform on stage. It is also normal for dancers to wear these types of clothes while on stage. Take into account that these children are performers and kids. They don’t choose what to wear or how much make up. They just do what they know.

  41. Sable says:

These girls are between the ages of 9 and 14 (the girl on the far right is 14). Obviously no one here has a child of this age during this generation…but it’s not really out of touch for them to wear these outfits. Have you seen what the girls wear on the Disney channel? I’d say they’re dressed way down compared those girls. Especially when you see what their “idols” Selena and Demi are wearing. Not to mention the only semi-cute outfits are the three on the right, the rest look like DEB for kid’s dresses.

  42. CR says:

Some of you are bring way too critical and mean! You may not agree with their choice in outfits or amount of make up but that does not give you the right to call these girls such horrific things such as prostitots. Shame on you people!

  43. Mol says:

Ok, for everyone freaking out about the girls with JB, those are the stars of the hit show Dance Moms and were there with their mothers and teacher ( Abby lee miller) as a result of their teen choice nomination. The girl in the orange dress and heels is Brooke, she is NOT 12 she is 14 years old. The rest of the girls have appropriate dresses on and the makeup is respectable.
