Is Caroline Kennedy secretly worried that Taylor Swift & Conor will elope?

If I could pick the Kennedy person I would least like to have on my bad side… it would be Caroline Kennedy. She’s the only one left out of her immediate family, which leaves the heavy burden of Camelot on her shoulders – and she shoulders that responsibility and honor with an amazing amount of quiet grace, in my opinion. It helps that Caroline isn’t really a politician – she’s managed to live a private and public life in equal measure, and while I think she has the political instincts of both her parents, she rarely uses that power on the minutiae of politics.

What was I talking about? Ah, yes. Caroline. Allegedly, Caroline is not a fan of Taylor Swift and Swifty’s romance with young Conor Kennedy. Caroline and Maria Shriver are apparently terrified that Swifty will bolt-on her way into a real marriage to poor Conor:

As Caroline Kennedy and Maria Shriver unite to thwart Taylor Swift’s ruthlessly swift seduction of barely-legal Conor Kennedy – who’s just starting his junior year in high school – a new fear is keeping them awake at night: Secret elopement!

Despite being a high school boy, Conor’s officially legal at 18 and CAN sign a marriage certificate.

Said a family source, “The Kennedy women fear Taylor may seduce Conor into eloping – because she’s not just a ruthless social climber, she’s a rich superstar and can easily support him even if his family cuts him off from the Kennedy millions. And Conor’s so totally swept away by Taylor, he can’t see straight.”

Meanwhile, Conor’s cousin Patrick Schwarzenegger, who’s just starting college, told pals: “My mom warned me to stay away from Taylor, and I’m sooo glad I did. Mom’s always right!”

[From The Enquirer, print edition]

Yes, what can you threaten Conor with? Disinheritance won’t work. Only time and space will work – he’s a teenage boy, he’s bound to find Swifty grating, nauseating and immature at some point, right? But the Enquirer’s report is probably wrong – Caroline was asked about Swifty during an interview at the Democratic National Convention yesterday, and Caroline said nice-ish things about Swifty. Well, Caroline said her favorite song by Swift was “Romeo” – when she meant “Love Story” apparently. So Caroline isn’t really a Swifty fan. Maybe.

What else? Patrick Kennedy told TMZ that the family is happy about Swifty and Conor’s romance, saying, “We love Taylor Swift … she’s been a great friend and we’re happy for Conor. If she wants to be in the family, she’s already a part of it.” Why is everyone acting like this whole thing isn’t creepy as hell?

Speaking of creepy, Conor moved into his boarding school yesterday. Their summer of love is OVER. Now it’s time for the drudgery of homework and SATs and pop quizzes. Fox News has an analysis of how much time Swifty and Conor will be spending apart from here on out – you can read it here. How long before Swifty finds an excuse to gate-crash Conor’s prep school and give an impromptu “concert”?

PS… In my mind, Caroline privately refers to Swifty as “that little hussy”.

    Caroline looks great!

    • Mimi says:

She really does, kudos to her. Swifty looks like a nut job. We are never ever going to forgive you for this one, Taylor. 😉

    • Elizabeth says:

++ Caroline looks so elegant. It’s more than just looks – she looks smart and capable and like someone who knows what the word “discretion” means. Ahhh, why are there so few like this? A classy lady.

    • emmieapricot says:

Forget about Taylor — I want to know what Caroline is doing — She looks amazing!!

    • KellyinSeattle says:

Yes, she kicks ass! I’d hate to have her on my bad side, too…..not really worried about Taylor eloping with Conor; more likely she will kidnap him.

      • ol cranky says:

if he doesn’t seem interested in marriage, she will get pregnant and there will be a very quick marriage followed when she is showing with an announcement of a “honeymoon” baby on the way

  2. Mandy says:

This IS creepy. I don’t get it either. Her “good girl” image is crumbling into plain out CRAY. It was only a matter of time.

  3. Ri says:

Caroline and Maria are too smart to let their boys anywhere near that stalker.

    • angie says:

They are, fortunately, because that poor kid needs a strong, sane, caring adult in his life. Where’s his father, and why isn’t he helping????

  4. marie says:

Swift is a creepy stage 5 clinger, and Caroline should be worried. Taylor reminds me of a praying mantis (it’s what I see every time I look at her) and I can totally see her biting Connor’s head off after he gives her a Kennedy heir. Taylor loves the last name and not the boy (btw, is he a junior or a senior?)

    Caroline looks good though..

  5. Franziska says:

Her performance yesterday on whatever awards show that was was truly painful. Time to move on from high school ladies…

  6. Tifygodess24 says:

Well if you think about it the bunny boiler has the maturity of a 13 year old girl and he’s only 18 which means he prob acts 15 so they are a match made in heaven. She can decorate her notebooks with hearts and stickers ( Lisa frank of course because you know she’s so retro and all ) and he can tell his friends omg I’ve seen boobs!

  7. T.C. says:

If the Kennedy’s didn’t talk nice about her on the record she will go crying about them in her next song. So this talk about welcoming her to the family sounds like trying to stay out of bunny boiler’s cross hairs.

  8. grace says:

Since when is Caroline “not really” a politician? She spoke at the DNC yesterday and edged towards running for office a couple of years ago. She only stepped aside because she was very inarticulate and the media crucified her. (I really like her though).

As if Conor and Taylor are marrying! And maybe the family don’t think it’s creepy because it’s not creepy. Just an innocent summer romance. Since when is Taylor a bad influence?!

    • Elizabeth says:

I believe Caroline was looking at running for Hilary Clinton’s Senate seat a while back. But I didn’t think she was inarticulate – she just didn’t want the press digging into her private life. She didn’t want the light being shone on the fact that she and her husband are living separate lives and she has a new guy. It’s her business IMO but I guess she didn’t want this info thrown into the street for the papa. I respect that. Too bad it kept her from running for the Senate though. She would have been fascinating to watch as a politician.

      • Kate says:

Look, let’s be honest here: she dropped the bid because she didn’t perform very well and the public and media were more than a little outraged that she thought she could take HRC’s senate seat notwithstanding the fact she had never held public office. Her private life is a convenient excuse. Do you really think, as a Kennedy, she wasn’t aware there would be an intrusion into her private life were she to run for a seat such as US Senator from NY?

      • hoya_chick says:

@ Kate & Elizabeth YEP! I was just coming here to say that! I live in NYC and I remember when then governor Patterson was trying to fill Clinton’s seat when she left after being appointed Secretary of State and Caroline totally wanted that job! But the public was not too keen on the idea because (at least to me) it seemed like there was no transparency. Like she just wanted to get the job without any one questioning her just because she is a Kennedy so hold off on the ‘she isn’t a politician’ proclamations. I think she would definitely jump at the chance to be a politician if/when it becomes convenient to her.

    • Kate says:

Thanks for setting the record straight on the “non-politician” Caroline Kennedy. She thought she’d swoop in and take HRC’s senate seat just because, well, she’s a Kennedy and the media blow back was really astounding. I really don’t have a problem with her, but that move was done purely out of a Kennedy sense of entitlement.

As for Taylor, the only thing I can say it that after seeing a clip from last night’s VMA’s, put me firmly in the camp that Taylor got herself some new boobs.

      • Amy says:

Regarding Caroline & entitlement – The story I’m about to tell is decades old, but in the late 1970s and early 1980s I worked on Main Street in Hyannis. The Kennedys were infamous among store owners and employees, and not in a good way.

The Caroline story took place in an ice cream shop where the line was long and people were standing patiently, waiting their turns. In walked Ms. Kennedy, who went straight to the counter. Upon being politely informed that there was a line, she got angry. I believe the phrase she used was, “Don’t you know who I am!?”

Anyway, the store worker did know. But Ms. Kennedy was not interested in being treated like one of the masses, and took her business elsewhere.

I’m sure she has matured since then, but the sense of entitlement has probably remained.

    • mln76 says:

I guess that kerfuffle happened so quickly that only us New Yorkers remember how badly she screwed that up. I still admire her for all that she’s been through but yeah she really mishandled her Senate bid.

  9. Lisa says:

Pretty sure Taylor wants a wedding on the scale of Will and Kate. No eloping for her.

    • Elizabeth says:

I think Taylor would elope if that was the only way to “lock it down” if you know what I mean. She could have the big wedding later.

  10. Talie says:

Why is this Caroline’s business, it’s not her son? And furthermore, where is this boy’s father…he seems completely MIA.

  11. cmc says:

“Conor…who’s just starting his junior year in high school…”

Um, WHAT? I thought he was a senior! It was bad enough to date a high school guy (no really, it’s terrible, Taylor) but he has two more years of high school?! Creepy. *shudder*

    • operagirl says:

      Wait, seriously? A junior?

    • rtms says:

I thought he was redoing his senior year, not junior yr because he failed his last year/did not pass the required amount of courses to graduate? If he’s a junior still then he’s either really lazy or incredibly stupid which would make sense why Taylor would be after him. The smart guys recognize her crazy and get out of there, the dumb ones don’t.

    • Emma says:

Why is an 18 yr old not finished or finishing school yet? I finished at 17…..

      • hoya_chick says:

Lol this comes up every time there is a post about it. There seems to be some shady explanation about why at 18, he is just now entering his JUNIOR year! Makes the whole thing that much more creepy/hilarious since I doubt they’ll even still be together when he gets around to graduating at 19/20…..Can someone enlighten us? Oh and that Fox story is hilarious.

      • Karma says:

To be fair, was your parental situation even close to what his was? I suspect that there was a lot of chaos in that house long prior to his mother hanging herself.

It is easy to case on the kid when it’s clearly the adults who weren’t capable of providing the stability needed. I bet his mother and father were up at all hours of the night with drunken drama. And since she was suicidal, he was probably home often comforting/taking care his mother after his dad left them.

Frankly, if Conor grows up without being a drug addict that would be a success.

    • Dani says:

That’s what I’m saying! How is he 18 and a JUNIOR? I’d get 18 and a senior because some have late/early birthday. Soon we’ll be hearing that he’s in a ‘special program to advance his education’ aka literally the stupidest boy ever. Sadly he kind of looks dumb…Just has that ‘uuhhh’ expression.

    • Lem says:

Yes, I’d like an explanation for an 18 y o junior. A well connected, boarding school 18 yr old junior ?!?

      • Tiny Dancer says:

He transferred schools (from one prep school to another btw) and had to repeat 9th grade. As to why he had to transfer, that’s a different story. The whole thing makes Taylor look sketch tb.

I’d think the last thing this kid needs is to have all the press on him. Thankfully he’s back in school and can lay low. Or hopefully. And maybe this relationship can blow over and Taylor can grow up a bit.

    • k says:

I thought this was weird when I thought he was a Senior… but a Junior. An 18 year old Junior. Which means he will be a 20 year old Senior. Boy doesn’t sound very smart does he?

And of course the 4 years wouldn’t be nearly as big a deal if he wasn’t still in high school. I’ve known 18 year olds out on their own who pay rent, etc, who would be fine with a 22 year old. But not a Junior.

      This is funny.

  12. Layale says:

To think I used to like her. She’s really changed; or perhaps it’s just that her true self is finally showing? Hard to say for sure. Having said that, I’m not completely bothered by her dating someone who is younger. I mean, I admit, it *is* a little creepy because he’s only 18. But if they were both older, it wouldn’t be quite so creepy. I say that because my hubby is 9.5 years younger than I am. But at least he was well past his teens before we even met. Anyways, just saying, I am more bothered by her wedding-crashing, social-clawing ways and slightly less bothered by their age difference. Slightly. LOL

  13. Dee Cee says:

Would Swifty like someone famous and rich much older to cloying get obsessed.. soon after his mother dies, and in the horrible, sad publicity which follows, throw herself into the family drama.. longingly cling and fall in love and ‘spout all this weird declaration of passionate, You are not alone, I bought a house near you.. travel with me., I will vacation with everyone and make it better.. I LOVE YOU.. let’s marry and have a baby before you complete high school..’ to her barely legal son..?

  14. RTR_Girl says:

I admit that Taylor’s a bunny boiler, but do y’all REALLY think she truly wants to get married? At age 22? To an 18 year old kid? And immediately crank out a baby? I mean this as a completely honest question…is the consensus that she truly is that nuts?

If it’s true, then wow. She really needs to grow the hell up.

  15. Ludakristen says:

Conor looks like a 12 year old. Can you imagine making out with him? Knowing cognitively that he’s legal but opening your eyes and seeing a child staring back?

    I’m a little grossed out.

  16. Vega says:

Here’s my conspiracy theory about Taylor regarding Conor: Apparently, Ms. Swift is obsessed with the number 13. So, either an official engagement is going to happen on some 13th day in 2013, or they will marry and/or elope on that day. Just sayin’. :/

  17. lrm says:

I know everyone thinks taylor is immature and school girl like, but does anyone consider that it is ‘her act’?
she is a smart businesswoman, and it does seem that she has some creative and business control over her life-it’s not all managers and song writers…i think she’s very calculated, and i also think most of her ‘relationships’ were for PR-mayer, jake g, and this current one is PR too-though he may not be in on it, it’s def. for her ‘career’ and artistry. she will use it for her next phase musically or lifestyle image wise.

i just don’t think she really is all kittens and rainbows like everyone thinks; she just markets to that set.

while we are at it-PR is the katie perry john mayer thing too.
as well as brand with gerri-interesting timing on that one?

this PR stuff is as old as the hills-see and be seen, and get twice the attention you would have, had you gone solo.

    • rumbleseat says:

I agree with you that Swizzle is smart enought to be calculating and control her image for her business interests, but don’t you remember that obnoxiously manipulative and spoiled cheerleader that everyone hated in high school?

Think of how well that chick was able to control everyone around her and use them to create her fantasy world of pouty princessness and extreme self-entitlement. It takes brains to be able to navigate through your life with that kind of ego and that ability to bend people for your purposes. That type of person has a real talent for molding other people but also knows how to mold themselves to get the love and attention they seek from others.

I would argue that many celebrities in fact have this sort of intelligence, and that it allows them to position themselves where they want to be in the industry. Arguably they have to know how to do this if they want to be on top. So yes, she has this kind of intelligence, but I don’t think it exists exclusively of the rainbows and the fluffy kitties and the pillbox hats. Long post! 🙂

  18. TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

Was in NYC earlier this year got a seat on a taping of Letterman and Caroline Kennedy was his guest; class act all the way – as for squinty eyed musically challenged swifty all her performances are painful, remember her attempt to sing with Stevie Nicks from a few yrs ago; that she is even considered talented is a stunning compliment to bad taste and modern marketing; as for the VMA’s another useless award show for mostly industry product i defer to Adam levine who said last yr that this is the one day that MTV pretends to care about music.

  19. Izzy says:

Ugh. She went from Shriver & Schwarzenegger’s son to Conor Kennedy, just to become part of Camelot. She’s as bad a social climber as Minka Kelly.

Just gross. And I caught Swifty on the VMAs last night. She has the emotional maturity of a fruitfly. Plus, that outfit she wore while she performed! It’s like she was going to fly off to Hyannis Port right after the show. Yuck.

  20. AmyLynne says:

It’s interesting that you say how long until she gate crashes his school and does a concert…there’s currently a contest and she’ll perform at the winner’s school.

Funny. I can just picture it: the winner “happens” to go to his school…

  21. midnightmoon says:

I think I read that Conor has some health/dietary issues. Maybe between missed school & his mom’s death he didn’t have enough credits to finish his school year. What’s amazing is that the school or his dad didn’t arrange tutoring or just waive the requirements. Good for them. First sign of sensicle behavior I’ve seen, if my theory is true…

    • strawberryshortkick says:

No he was a sophomore last year. And his allergies are really severe and he has to be extremely careful (down to cooking food on a seperated part of a grill) but most of that was sorted out by the time he was 3-4 years old.

Without getting in to too many details, he had to transfer schools (from one prep to another) and in the transfer wound up repeating 9th grade.

  22. Kosmos says:

Hard to imagine that an 18-year old in college would be ready to soon settle down, huh? Why would they even be thinking of this right now? Maybe Taylor is worried he will leave her like the others did. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I don’t think his family will want him marrying, at least not before he finishes college. A lot can happen between now and then. With Taylor on the road and Conor in school, well…

  23. jferber says:

Maybe if Conor’s father gave him some guidance and attention, he wouldn’t be looking to elope. Bobby Jr. tried to wrest custody away from Mary (he got his wish with her death) and now he’s a no-show dad, gallivanting (I love that word) with his Hollywood girlfriend in sunny California. What a crappy dad and husband.
