Blake Lively’s wedding was styled by Martha Stewart’s team. Of course.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds got married on Sunday, as we discussed yesterday. When I wrote about it yesterday, I said, “I would love to know the guest list. I would love to know if they’ll sell (or give away) any photos from the event – my guess is no, they won’t.” I was thinking about People Magazine or Us Weekly (never the lower-tier tabloids) when I wrote that – I didn’t even consider the idea that Blake could have organized a photo shoot with a monthly magazine. Not just any monthly either – Martha Stewart Weddings! OMG. Blake truly is a 1950s housewife throwback. Amazing.

Blake and Ryan’s wedding was a good thing. Martha Stewart’s team worked with Lively, 25, and Reynolds, 35, and planner Tara Guérard of Soiree in Charleston, S.C, to create an “intimate, personalized party” for immediate and extended family “in a rustic barn,” according to Martha Stewart Weddings.

“From the heartfelt ceremony to the fun-filled carnival hour and elegant reception, it was a truly enchanting celebration,” according to the magazine, which promises more details in its December issue.

The ceremony took place at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Sunday just outside of Charleston. “Ryan, who has been a long-time fan of Charleston, chose to mark this special occasion in one of his favorite towns,” according to the magazine.

Lively wore a one-of-a-kind Marchesa couture bridal ball gown with a hand-draped silk tulle bodice adorned with crystal and rose gold embroidery.

Her bridesmaids wore blush silk chiffon Marchesa gowns with crystal embroidered detail. The women all wore shoes from Christian Louboutin.

The groom and groomsmen donned Burberry suits with custom leather suspenders designed by Ryan’s friend Christopher Bailey. The couple exchanged rings by Lorraine Schwartz.

The wedding, first reported by PEOPLE, also had a reception held in a white tent at the plantation. Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine), a good friend of the Gossip Girl star, performed three songs live for guests.

I am in physical PAIN over the fact that Blake wore Marchesa. She was the face of Chanel (purses). She’s the current face of a Gucci perfume. How is it that Blake “Baller” Lively had to saunter and mumble her way through her wedding in a GD Marchesa gown?!? You know she looked like an ice-skater MESS. You know it’s going to be tacky and budget. And Ryan managed to wrangle Christopher Bailey for his suit! Bailey is the head of Burberry – and you know Bailey was probably horrified to learn the bride was going to wear Marchesa. HOW GAUCHE. Seriously. Just to give you a taste, this is what Blake looks like in Marchesa:

    Team Stewart!

  2. Bellabumbum says:

Blake was kissing up to Harvey’s wife, plain and simple by choosing Marchesa. Quite a sacrifice.

    • Amelia says:

      I thought the same thing.
I’ve got to admit, it’s dedication to wear that kind of crap to your wedding which will be immortalised in pictures *for ever*, all to get in Weinstein’s good books.

      • lucy2 says:

LOL – you say that like this will be her only wedding. 😀
Not to sound too cynical, but she’s a 25 year old Hollywood climber, he’s already had one very short wedding, and they haven’t been together that long. If this goes 5 years, I’ll be impressed.

    • emmieapricot says:

That was my first thought — She wants to star in a Weinstein film.

    • mercy says:

I’m not a fan of Marchesa, but if their frilly frou frou has a place it might just be bridal. This was a custom job, too, not a runway number, and even some of their runway wedding gowns are pretty and romantic.

  3. brin says:

This is not a “good thing”.

  4. Cleveland Girl says:

This just goes to show that if a celeb wants to get married in private, they can do it. All this BS with tabloids and paparazzi doesn’t HAVE to happen. I applaud them for having a dignified wedding, and she can wear whatever she wants!

    • Diva says:

It’s easier to have a quiet wedding in SC then NY or LA. Quiet seems to be his thing. Its not like these 2 are anywhere near A list or that the paps would be chasing them down for pics. They are a boring pairing.

    • mercy says:

      +1

Papps will chase down just about any celeb wedding if they know about it. It’s not Brad and Angelina we’re talking about here, but I guarantee you they would have pounced on this wedding like nobody’s business if they had a clue. No one talked, and the timing and location caught by surprise. They never even announced their engagement.

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

      Natalie Portman disagrees

    • CeeCee says:

I think they got away with it because no one cares about these 2! D list!

  5. tracking says:

Yes, it was smart to keep the engagement quiet. This set the stage for a private wedding. Makes you wonder about the other high-profile engagements that become such PR fodder.

    • T.C. says:

A private wedding? Every part of her wedding is going to be on display in a magazine soon like an ad for every one to see. Nothing private about that. It’s as if her entire wedding was planned by Martha and co. for the pages of her mag. That is self promotion not a private wedding. This marriage will not last.

  6. Elle says:

Every once in awhile I look at Ryan Reynolds and I still see that awkward big-teefed kid from Fifteen. The pictures above brought me right back there.

  7. bella says:

    i just can’t with this…

  8. GiGi says:

This B thinks she’s the next Babe Paley. She wishes.

Although it’s kind of happening, right? Damn.

  9. stinky says:

he is infinitely uninteresting to me.

  10. Nanz01 says:

I had the same reaction about her Marchesa dress – physical pain!! She has “access to any designer she wants,” and she chose ice skater fug?! What a waste. And I thought she had GAME. SMH.

    • Barbara says:

My thoughts exactly. I just can’t. This is so wrong in so many levels. I have ZERO expectation about the dress. I know it’s going to be hideous. I’m deeply disappointed. I’m sure she could have an exclusive Gucci dress. Not only she has an ongoing contract but she’s now close to Gucci first lady, Salma Hayek. They became close during Savages shooting and they were together in the Gucci event last week in Venice, they only have complimentary words about each other. So she had access. Maybe it’s this angle you guys mentioned about Weinstein though I don’t know his link to Marchesa.

      • duchessofhazard says:

Harvey Weinstein is married to Ms Chapman, one of the founders, iirc.

Blake’s body is sick, she’ll wear the hell out of that dress. But still. Marchessa? Was Lagerfield out at the time?

    • michkabibbles says:

i’m not a huge marchesa fan, but i actually think their asthetic works better for something like a couture wedding gown than red carpet looks. if you image search marchesa wedding, there are actually some very sophisticated looks. i’m actually interested in seeing what she chose.

    • Camille (TheOriginal) says:

@Nanz01: I agree with you. smh

  11. Liv says:

I thought she has access to ALL designers? Why choose Marchesa then? Ugh!!

  12. Prettytarheelfan says:

How did y’all not think she was going to wear Marchesa? I called that shiz as soon as I heard about the wedding. Harvey Weinstein would have it no other way.

  13. pinchofsalt says:

This could be a very good thing! I can’t wait to see the photos.

  14. lila says:

The rose gold embroidery sounds pretty.

And if Blake starts up the housewife thing at 25, she could surpass the Goopster pretty quickly. I’m not gonna criticize the girl for it. Her career is based a lot on looks, and with newer and younger actresses entering Hollywood all the time, its good to have a long term plan. At least she’s not jacking her face up with too much surgery too young like Megan Fox.

  15. mia girl says:

Well, the girl is pragmatic. Chances are, this may not be her only wedding, but she’s only got one career. So Marchesa was the obvious choice.

  16. normades says:

V4Real wrote this comment yesterday: if she’s a famewhore like some people insist she is there’s no better publicity stunt than keeping things quiet to try and prove it isn’t a publicity stunt. … This news is bigger and will get more publicity than if they had announced their engagement.”

Very good assesment. Not announcing the engagement was a VERY savvy move from team Blake. Unlike the collective yawns from the drawn-out Timberbiel engagement.

  17. hannah says:

Martha Stewart Weddings is a quaterly magazine.
If they worked with them, I imagine the wedding was paid for my the magazine in exchange for pictures.

    • Belle says:

While I have no comment on the Marchesa gown (until I see it), I have to admit, I wouldn’t have minded working with the Martha Stewart team when I got married! Not an avid MS follower or anything, but I think she would do a lovely job with a plantation-style wedding.

    • mercy says:

She’s a big Martha Stewart fan, and they seem to have become quite friendly, socialising and spending holidays with her family at Martha’s.
The focus of the feature will probably be more on design than a spread in a mag like People would have.

  18. Micki says:

Now, settled in a married bliss she can unleash the domestic goddess and riun the figure with homemade marmalade and freshly baked scones..

  19. kitty-bye says:

    WOW

  20. Ri says:

She needs to team up with Goop.

  21. silver says:

am so so happy for them…..she can wear whatever she wants as long as they will be happy….CONGRATS TO THEM

  22. Lady Lupton says:

I read about the Marchesa gown elsewhere and have been waiting for Kaiser’s reaction. I can’t wait for the pics, that dress will be epic fug.

  23. Emma says:

Her wedding sounds gorgeous. Plus she had Florence Welch and Bette Midler perform? This is a dream wedding. I also think it says something that they decided to share their photos in Martha’s magazine instead of a tabloid. They are friends and it seems they are promoting her wedding business rather than themselves. People will no doubt call Blake a famewhore though because people lose all rationality and logic at the sight of her name.

    • KellyinSeattle says:

I don’t really have any comments about her…don’t know enough about her and don’t really care to…but she had Bette Middler at her wedding? What a blast that would be!

  24. Marni says:

I knew they wouldn’t keep this wedding private lol. It’s not in her nature!

    • Liv says:

Yeah, but she managed to seem like she wanted to keep it private, so basically she wins 😉 Look at people like Emma (23.) who still think that she is not a famewhore 😉

  25. Erinn says:

I know the girl gets a lot of heat, and I do understand some of it. She’s definitely not the most interesting person ever, and she seems to be an average actress at best.

    I can’t hate her though.

I do applaud her hustle, and honestly, I’m impressed that they managed to get married so quietly. The wedding sounds amazing.

And despite the hate for the girl, I wish them the best. Nothing they do effects me in any way, so cheers to them.

    • Miss Kiki says:

Erinn I totally agree. Blake has SO MUCH game it’s actually unreal.

All I can do is congratulate her.

      • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

        Yep *Golf claps for Blake*

      • duchessofhazard says:

I agree. Blake needs to come out with a book. She went from nude photos on her iphone to Doris Day que sera sera realness in the space of two years.

To quote Lainey, “HOW DOES SHE DO THAT?”

      • Val says:

It’s her PR Team I’m congratulating, makes everyone else’s look like slackers.

    • Camille (TheOriginal) says:

@Erinn: You summed up my thoughts about this girl exactly. I agree with you, great comment.

  26. V4Real says:

I know a lot of us are riding the I hate Blake train and we should always remember that everyone sees beauty in different things and people, so I’m not going there with her today. But I will say this, no matter what she is wearing or how she is styled she looks much older than 25.

  27. Jay Elle says:

I love Blake!! GO BLAKE!! woohoo. I thought she looked AMAZING in that Marchesa dress in the pic provided. She is stunning!! she is my celeb-lesbihonest crush hahahaha

  28. Lindsey says:

If this isn’t vertical integration, I don’t know what is.

  29. Shelly says:

I love Martha. I am beyond jealous that she styled her wedding!

    • Belle says:

I posted something about this above, but will (sort of) second your post here too!
      I’m not a die-hard Martha fan, but have always loved the looks she comes up with in the magazines I have seen. I know she has (or had?) a line at K-Mart, which really cheapened her brand, but I’ve always loved her styling… most often when it comes to flowers and weddings(;

  30. NM6804 says:

I love the title because even though RR wanted to get married, it’s still very much Blake Lively’s wedding! Other sites mention ‘Lively’s wedding’ too. It’s amazing :D.

RR was barely snapped during his relationship with Scarjo and now he’s letting his new wife sell their wedding to Martha Stewart! Just amazing! I cannot believe that Scarjo does not feel a little miffed over this.

Oh and since I don’t post in Jolie threads anymore: selling your wedding/engagement AFTER it happened is still selling it. If that’s the consensus for other celebs then also for ‘private’ Brange. Thank youuuuu 🙂

    • Belle says:

      Not sure she is selling it after-the-fact. As someone mentioned, if there are going to be photos in a MS wedding issue, then it is quite possible there was something of a trade. Yes, a trade could still be viewed as ‘selling’ to a certain extent… but if Blake is a fan of MS (and friend), then the exchange might have been something they were both excited about(;

      • mercy says:

If Martha Stewart offered to help plan my wedding in exchange for pictures, I’d be all over that. If she were also my friendly neighbour and invited me over for brunch and horseback riding, even better.

  31. julie says:

What a bunch of cynics. I’m happy for Ryan. He likes the institution of marriage and perhaps she really does love him. They have been inseparable since they met. I also see nothing wrong with a Marchesa gown – she looks fabulous in anything she wears and nobody has even seen it yet but you’re all already insulting it. She may be a climber, but that doesn’t mean she can’t really love the guy. He’s what every hollywood guy SHOULD be, low key and monogamous. Honestly guys, can’t you just be happy for them and the fact that they didn’t go the Kardashian route and whore themselves out for money? I wish them all the best.

  32. Turd Fergussen says:

Way to go Ryan! You married your jump off!

I predict this will last about 2 years.

    • NM6804 says:

I don’t think that Reynolds wants to be seen with his flings. Hell, he and his ex-wife barely wanted to be seen together!

The only legit rumours were of him and Theron and how many pictures are there of them together? Right.

He’s a lowkey kind of guy when it comes to dating but I’m sure he had his freak on with some nobodies. Lively is hardly his jump off. At least he was already divorced when he started a serious relationship. That’s more than some celebs can say.

  33. Jilly Bean says:

    she is so mall….

  34. Another View says:

Just because she had Martha Stewart creations style her wedding does not mean she is allowing them to put pics in their magazine.

  35. Nibbi says:

Forget the dress. Im in pain over the fact that florence welsh sang at her wedding. I feel like my life will never be awesome enough now.

  36. Lindy says:

She’s so uninteresting to me (and I honestly barely know who he is). But she’s like… like a budget Goop. Only at least Goop has some serious acting talent (when she feels like not just calling it in).

  37. eric says:

They are perfect for each other,
    Dumb and Dumber!

  38. Tommy says:

Too bad I love that Marchesa gown she’s wearing.

  39. GoodCapon says:

I don’t get it. Can someone please explain the Marchesa hate? Is it because of the brand itself or because Blake wears Marchesa?

  40. queen says:

God, I LOVE him in Two Guys, A Girl & A Pizza Place. He is hilarious
