When asked ‘Who is the most difficult star you’ve ever worked with?’, Ethan Hawke replied, “William Hurt is a son of a bitch.” I’ve heard that about Hurt before. [Seriously OMG WTF]

Marlee Matlin is giving this a thumbs up … somewhere.

  2. stephanie says:

    my he is aging beautifully.

  3. Eve says:

I don’t know…as much as I can’t stand when an actor is insufferable, William Hurt is simply one of the best I’ve ever seen.

    • Sugar says:

William lives in the back 40 of my area & i had one live encounter with him once-he is kinda a grump-but i still really like him:)

      • SheilaSheilaSheila says:

If you can get your hands (or ears) on NPR’s Terri Gross “Fresh Air” interview with William Hurt, it’s worth a listen, albeit a creepy one. He seems aggressive & very, very difficult.

One thing I remember him saying: if other actors compliment him after a scene, he gets angry because it means they weren’t “in the moment” but instead judging the moment, which removed them from being fully present to the experience. He seemed upset that Terri didn’t immediately understand why other actor’s compliments would be so disturbing to him and explained it like he was talking to a child.

I finished that interview thinking this is not a man I’d want to meet in a dark alley, no matter how good he was in “The Big Chill.” He seems to have a personality disorder or something. There was also something weird about how he described trying to get custody of his kids, but I don’t remember the details.

Pardon me while I go turn some lights on around the house and wait for Mr. Shelia to get home…

  4. Jayna says:

He was so cute in Andy Cohen’s show last night. I didn’t hear who he wanted to Marry, shag kill. He and Liam Neeson were on together. Cute when Andy asked Liam if he was truly the most well-endowed man in Hollywood as is the rumor.

William Hurt is a brilliant actor asshole or not

  5. N-Bear says:

Jeez Ethan, the guy mistakes you for a heroin-addict *once*…

  6. Oi says:

I fail to see how that was such a big gaffe for Lolo Jones. It was an accident. She just responded like anyone probably would without knowing too much about someone. The guys profile even says he plays for the Bucs. He defended her too.

    • Chatcat says:

Oi I agree. It was on the local news in my area because of proximity. LeGrande has always been an outstanding guy and it shows with his support and response to her Tweet. People just totally like to bully Lolo because of her outspokedness on her virginity.

      • Oi says:

I didn’t know the part about her virginity. Well, good for her. Maybe we should stop criticizing people for their personal decisions, and take a moment to address why it is seemingly ok to be an asshole/bully on the twitter.

  7. Brown says:

He is so attractive, but this movie looks terrifying. I love scary movies but I can’t handle scary kids. Killer kids, posessed kids, ghost kids. No thanks. Move along.

  8. Saphana says:

how ridiculous is the Lolo Jones story? as if she knowingly said something bad. guy asked, she answered. people nowadays are just waiting for something they can turn around to take someone down.

  9. pinchofsalt says:

    Ethan = delicious!

  10. berry says:

Jennifer Garners son actually looks like Jessica Simpsons little girl, I think it’s the pout thats similar.

  11. bns says:

It’s unprofessional, but I love when actors dish like this.

  12. dooliloo says:

Ethan… Really?!? Doesn’t change the fact that William Hurt is a bazillion times better actor than you right? Next!

    • Kim says:

So he is a mean person who is also a talented actor.Actually he mentioned Hurt was playing a mean character so Hurt may be a method actor.

      • SheilaSheilaSheila says:

William Hurt beats women & basically admitted it about Marlee Matlin. He’s mean period.

      • SheilaSheilaSheila says:

William Hurt abuses women & basically admitted it about Marlee Matlin. He’s mean period.

  13. Sweet Dee says:

The war on drugs in the US actually IS racist. I hope we start addressing drug users as addicts who need help rather than screwing them more.

  14. Sumodo1 says:

Well, Ethan said it on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live” sitting alongside Liam Neeson, z9who seemed non-plussed). William Hurt’s checkered past seems to have been summarized in one moment on a tlak show on Bravo. Dig it.

  16. Mira says:

Ethan is gorgeous!! Hurt is a terrific actor but all I can see is Ethan’s gorgeousness.

  17. RobN says:

I think everybody says that about William Hurt, and have for 30 years.

    • Veruca says:

Yes, but I can’t help but love him in The Big Chill. 😀

Now, if he were an A$$hole of say, Roman Polanski’s level, that would be another story…

      • Amelia says:

I think asshole is a gross understatement in reference to Polanski …

      • Veruca says:

        @amelia —

I know, but I don’t think what I’d call Polanski would make it past the censors…

but you get the general idea.

  18. Esmom says:

I know Andy asked the question, but it doesn’t seem right to trash a co-worker, even if it’s true. He should have passed on that question, too.

The little Garfleck boy looks just like his older sister. Such cuties.

  19. DetRiotGirl says:

For the past couple days I haven’t been able to shut off the mobile site on my phone. I’ve tried on both Chrome and Safari. Is anyone else having this problem? It drives me nuts to have to use the mobile version of anything, so this is kind of bumming me out. :-/

EDIT: and, of course, it finally starts working right after I post that comment. Lol

  20. Mrs. Darcy says:

I know Hurt is no saint, and I don’t condone any of his b.s. with Marlee Matlin, but he is ten, make that a hundred and a ten times the actor Hawke will ever be. And he didn’t write an anxsty novel and bonk his nanny, so right there for me he wins. Ethan should watch and learn from the greater talents he gets to work with as opposed to being so smug, he is such a Franco. Just a lame, stupid move to trash talk a fellow actor, love that Liam was unimpressed because he is too cool for that bollocks.

    • Ann says:

A man who beats women never “wins”.

      • Mrs. Darcy says:

I agree, as I said in my first sentence. But he is an alcoholic and that was thirty years ago and he has not been accused of anything like it since. It doesn’t excuse it, by any means, but he has gotten on with life since. Marlee Matlin needed to sell a few more books so she included it, which is the only reason people are talking about it now. Ethan Hawke cheated on his wife with their nanny, he is not a saint either. And I know the two are not the same, I just think it’s a douche move trash talking Hurt,he said it probably knowing Hurt won’t respond.

  21. Dizzybenny says:

I love William Hurt!! Awsome actor, my fav is Gorky Park in 1983 with Lee Marvin as the bad guy.
He’s very intense on screen and off I guess. 🙂

    • Susie (1 of 3) says:

Don’t forget Body Heat with William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Ted Danson, Richard Crenna, and Mickey Rourke. Voted sweatiest movie ever on an episode of Cheers. An oldie, 1981, but still worth watching

      • Mazunte says:

Gorky Park and Body Heat :). Thanks for reminding me of movies I saw when I was a very young teen and I had completely forgotten.

        Ethan is so cute!!!

Ethan might not be as good as William Hurt. But, come on! He strongly helped eternalizing Dead Poets Society. His character in the movie was my favorite. And Before Sunrise was such a lovely movie. I also loved him in Snow Falling on Cedars, though the critics didn’t like the movie.

  22. skuddles says:

Years back, William Hurt’s former girlfriend, Marlee Matlin, accused him of spousal abuse. I’ve heard other rumors too about him being a mean SOB.

  23. Lara says:

William Hurt is absolutely brilliant. Ethan is a good actor, very ambitious. I guess their collaboration was like a rehearsal of the Clash of the Titans 🙂

  24. Lilou says:

William Hurt is a really stupid name. Will Hurt? I will hurt? Dumb dumb dumb. I’d be a douche, too

  25. Genevieve says:

Marlee Matlin (I think that’s her name) wrote a book & says that while they were together he would beat her. I totally believe that. He always came off as a prick to me.

  26. Onyx XV says:

Yeah, Ethan’s definitely not the first person to make those kinds of comments about William Hurt. I think it’s pretty much common knowledge at this point that he’s an arrogant whatever. Like other posters, I too loved him in “The Big Chill.” Just because someone is a great actor doesn’t make them nice.

  27. Bonnie says:

I am always glad to hear honest opinions from actors working with jerks. Frankly, I never felt that Hurt was that good to have so much ‘tude. Thanks, Ethan, glad you didn’t plead the 5th.

  28. Really? says:

I met Will briefly in Cannes, during the film festival. I was working as an assistant for some bottom feeder producer wannabe and trying to score interviews.

Will got out of his limo and our paths crossed on his way to the hotel. I stuck my hand out to shake his and talk about my puny project, and the guy was ADORABLE and so kind and nice. I’m actually surprised to hear this about him.

I think he may be a jerk at work, because he’s ultra serious about his “craft.” But in general, he’s actually quite kind, because there were plenty of other a$$holes who gave me the brush off with a wave of their hand and a whiff of indignation. But Will was not one of them.

  29. Sam says:

William Hurt is an awful awful awful character, I saw it first hand when I was working on a movie he was in. Difficult doesn’t cover the half of it, I’d say he is mentally deranged.
(Result of years and years and years of drugs and alcohol abuse? Incapacity to deal with fame?)
