Pink talks tattoos, karma and divorcing someone she still loves

Pink has said she is a firm believer in karma, and to prove it her favorite tattoo is the one that reads “What comes around goes around.”

Pink’s favorite tattoo was created by an artist friend in Philadelphia and reads “What goes around comes around.” As she explains it, “It’s my only truth that never changes. I believe in karma. I believe that it comes around in both ways. I’ve watched really good people have really hard times and then all of a sudden something beautiful happens. I’ve seen instant karma and I’ve seen karma that I think takes lifetimes and I’ve felt a lot of it.”

Pink is gloriously inked. She has Kanji characters, which she’s checked, double checked and triple checked to make sure the meanings were correct, that read “good luck and happiness”, “strength”, “the will to live” and “mother”. She also wears a tribute tattoo to her beloved bulldog, Elvis, who accidently drowned in a swimming pool. The only tattoos it sounds like Pink regrets are the pink bows she has on the back of her thighs, which she says she got while she was drunk. I think they sound kind of cute, but “cute” just isn’t Pink’s style.

This is evident in her new cd, intentionally ironically named Funhouse. The album was inspired by the breakdown of her marriage to motorcross racer Carey Hart, so it’s full of anger, sadness, regret and a very strong will.

Pink’s hurt resonates throughout Funhouse, but her lyrics weren’t intended to slam Hart. “When I’m writing the songs it’s just where I’m at. What I’m doing, what I’m reading, what I’m thinking about. This one was different for me. I’ve not been here before in this way… These songs are like wounds… It was too easy to write. There is no edit button. Maybe there should be, but there isn’t with me.”

It’s hard not to look for traces of Hart in every track on Funhouse, such as “Mean” which Pink says is about how relationships change. “Every relationship, whether it ends or not, does that. How did we get so mean? How did I just say that to you? Let’s sit down and come to the love table and be friends again.” Elsewhere on Funhouse she digs deeper into where things went wrong and suggests that perhaps Hart wasn’t there for her enough when she needed him to be. “I don’t know that anyone will be able to give me what I think I need. And, I think I’m a much better friend than anything else,” Pink explains.

Some of the hints about Hart aren’t so subtle. In “So What,” the album’s first single, Pink calls Hart a “tool” and sings “I just lost my husband/I don’t know where he went” and later adds “You weren’t there/You never were.” In the video, she takes a chainsaw to a tree that their initials are carved into. But in a Pink twist, Hart shows up at the end of the video. “The whole world is like, oh she’s a f’ing hypocrite, talking sh*t and I thought it was amicable. And it is, but that’s what I do. I talk sh*t. I talked sh*t to him for six years. I’m not going to stop now.”

Pink says that even though her music might suggest differently, she is still very much in love with Carey Hart and things between them aren’t resolved. The album was a way of dealing with something she didn’t want to happen, but for whatever reason had to happen. When I first heard “So What” I was surprised that there would be such public animosity coming from her about him. From what I saw of Hart on The Surreal Life he seems like a genuinely decent person and I just didn’t picture him as the “tool” type. When I saw the video to the song, and him in it, hugging her, playing it up with her, I realized, this was just an outlet for her, a way to find her way through losing her husband that she honestly wishes would have turned out differently. And he understands it, and it was moving to me. I’ve never put energy into wishing and hoping celebrity couples reconcile, but I’m breaking my rule on this one.

    Pink stinks!

  2. Len says:

They’re not going to reconcile. Reason: she’s a lesbian.

  3. boomchakaboom says:

She’s refreshingly honest and a beautiful woman. I love her music, especially this latest album. So What is an anthem to anyone who’s ever gone through such a rough relationship & breakup. If you haven’t yet, then you just haven’t YET.

  4. stellapurdy says:

I’ve read the rumors too that she’s gay but I’m not buying it. Pink has struck me as the type of person to be pretty straight forward and outspoken so why would she hide the fact she’s a lesbian? It doesn’t make sense.

I love her music and understand how she got to where she did with her marriage as the same happened to me. One of the most difficult things in the world is to leave someone that you still love because you know in the end it’s the best thing.

I’ve always like Pink, as a person and as an artist.

I was very sad when she & Carey Hart announced their split; I thought they’d be the exception to the rule.

    I also hope they reconcile.

  6. Scooter says:

I love Pink and Carey…if they really love each other, maybe things will eventually work out. Sometimes it’s the right person, but the wrong time.

  7. Alexa says:

I love Pink! Thank goodness she’s popular right now; she brings at least SOME balance to the airwaves. Go girl!

  8. Kaiser says:

I find her… refreshing. And funny. And interesting. And I love Hart on that A&E tattoo show.

*fingers crossed they get back together*

  9. I Choose Me says:

I’m with stellapurdy and scooter and Kaiser. Pink’s one of my favourite artists.

  10. Cletus says:

I like Pink. I would buy her a beer and I wouldn’t even spit in it or nothin’.

I liked her So What video, too. And even though I’m a total wretch, it wouldn’t suck to see them get back together.

  11. Kristin says:

Yeah I don’t think she is a lesbian. Bi-sexual probably. There were photos of her kissing Kristanna Loken (spelling?) another bi-sexual. I just don’t get lesbian from pink.

  12. Because I Say So says:

It seems like her tough-chick attitude is what has prompted the lesbian rumors. I don’t see it, myself. I’m probably alone in considering her incredibly feminine– tattoos and muscles included. If I were a dude, I would totally find her sexy as hell.

Oh yeah, I love her voice and her music.

  13. I never really cared for Pink when she first came on the music scene – she was too Avrilish for my taste.

But now she’s really growing on me. I’d definitely buy her a beer – I might even consider downloading her album.

  14. notprfect says:

I’m on the “I like Pink” bandwagon, too. Oh, here’s my stop! Now I’m boarding the “Hope they get back together” bandwagon. 😆

  15. TC says:

I love her, I love her voice, I love her attitude. I am not gay, and I don’t think she is, but I have a total girl crush on her. I LOVE this new album.

  16. June says:

Pink’s a great, honest, down to earth person (with faults like the rest of us). What’s not to like? Pink’s cool.

  17. Rofl says:

“I realized, this was just an outlet for her, a way to find her way through losing her husband that she honestly wishes would have turned out differently”

Why are women so ridiculously, evasive, childish and arrogant?

Why not accept your feelings instead of lashing out at everyone like you’re tough shit? Like anyone else is to blame?

Men don’t do that. Women do that childish garbage.

  18. Monica says:

I do believe that the “lashing out at everyone like you’re tough shit” is a not uncommon part of the grieving process. It is said that divorce is akin to the death of a loved one. Been there, done that, lashed out like I was tough shit. Getting through it. However, the x is still lashing out at intervals, and guess what? He’s a man! Doing that childish garbage! *GASP* Such strong emotions and how we process them is not gender-specific.

That said, I pink puffy-heart Pink.
