Amber Tamblyn’s wedding photos: the bride wore yellow, went shoeless

This is for all of the people who wanted to talk about Amber Tamblyn and David Cross’s wedding yesterday. All of these photos come from Questlove’s Instagram – he was at the wedding, and he captured some beautiful photos of the “wedding in the woods”. I’ve included some of the most interesting photos in this post, but you can see even more here, at Questlove’s page. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were there! Blake looked like she stepped out of a Ralph Lauren ad. And the bride wore YELLOW! And Amber was barefoot. It actually looked like a really pretty ceremony.

Amber Tamblyn is anything but traditional. When the House, M.D. alum, 29, married Arrested Development actor David Cross, 48, on October 6, the barefoot bride — who arrived via kayak! — wore a canary yellow dress. With flowers in her hair, Tamblyn vowed to spend eternity with Cross as guests including Amy Poehler, 41, Jason Ritter, 32, and Questlove, 41, looked on. (Us Weekly exclusively confirmed their betrothal October 7.)

Other A-list attendees included Tamblyn’s Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants costars Blake Lively, 25, America Ferrera, 28, and Alexis Bledel, 30. Lively — who secretly married Ryan Reynolds, 35, in South Carolina September 9 — brought her husband as her date.

Questlove shared a series of pictures from Tamblyn and Cross’ wedding ceremony and reception via Instagram. In addition to snapshots of the bride and groom, The Roots musician also uploaded a picture of their unique dessert, a cheesecake featuring two fox cake toppers.

Yo La Tengo performed during the reception, while Questlove served as the deejay. This is the first marriage for both Tamblyn and Cross, who confirmed their engagement in August 2011.

Tamblyn next appears in the Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained, in theaters December 25. The movie also stars Jamie Foxx, 44, Leonardo DiCaprio, 37, Kerry Washington, 35, and Samuel L. Jackson, 63. Cross is currently shooting new episodes of Arrested Development, which is being revived via Netflix.

[From Us Weekly]

A cheesecake wedding cake? That’s fine. I’m not a cheesecake person, but I’m simply happy when a couple decides to go with tradition enough to actually have a cake (side-eye at Natalie Portman). And I don’t mind that Amber wore yellow – her dress was pretty, and she looked really happy. Fingers crossed that everything works out for them in the long run!

  3. marie says:

now that would have been a fun wedding to attend. really pretty, love that they used natural decor.. I like her dress, and I really love that the sisterhood showed up.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

This looks like an awesome, non-Hollywood wedding right? The dress is so pretty- I love non-traditional wedding dresses.

They look so genuinely happy together that I just can’t hate.

    • Chickie Baby says:

Agreed! Fall wedding, outdoors in the countryside….why not a yellow dress?

The whole thing looked lovely and intimate and romantic. Good for them!

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Yay for the Sisterhood! I guess that leaves just Alexis and America as the bachelorettes? Love them both – seem so pretty and sweet. I miss Rory Gilmore.

    • j.eyre says:

Really fun. That first shot is spectacular. I wish them many years together.

    • Carolyn says:

thanks now I know where I know her from…Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants!

      They look really happy!

  4. backwards says:

I love that colour on her! Gorgeous. She looks very pretty.

Side note: Blake, maybe invest in a comb.

    • Canda says:

+1… bitch couldn’t even brush her damn hair?! I always bring an extra clip or something if I’m wearing my hair down at an outdoor event, wind can wreck a good blowout.

      I bet she’s just lazy.

  5. Lauren says:

Some mascara was too much America?

    • Hannah says:

If you have a face like she does, you don’t need any make-up.

Very bitchy of you, though, congratulations!

    • Annie says:

Hahahaha seriously. I hate it when people don’t even bother to dress nicely. Come on! It’s your friends’s day. It’s rude not to.

  6. emmieapricot says:

Gorgeous wedding! …I’m just a little sad that the Bluth family doesn’t seem to be there – I like to think they’re a big happy dysfunctional family off-screen!

  7. Rachel says:

That’s sweet. I like it. These kinds of weddings are much more my speed than the big, expensive deals.

The age difference does kind of make me throw the side eye when I think about it, but they seem happy, so more power to them.

    • Camille (TheOriginal) says:

      +1 to everything you said.

Amber looked lovely, I like that she didn’t go with a traditional dress and it suited the setting and season. Pretty.

    • bettyrose says:

Agreed about the age difference in most cases – especially given that we’d be ripping it apart if the woman were 19 years older – but two things:
      1. David Cross really doesn’t seem like an egotistical douche trying to prove something with a younger bride &
      2. They truly seem like a well matched couple.

  8. Blue says:

Umm, a certain someone could have combed/brushed her hair or put it up. I know it was in the woods but geez, what’s the point of dressing nice and your hair looks unkempt.

  9. Dorothy#1 says:

She looks beautiful. Congratulations to them!!

  10. Lila says:

How fun. Love it when a couple does their own thing. That said, I would have felt funny walking barefoot in a forest.Maybe throw on a pair of yellow vibrams or something.

  11. Bluedog says:

Yellow dress = yes. Barefeet = no. No one wants to look at your dirty, muddy toes!

  12. Cathy says:

Sounds like it was a great time. Congratulations to the two of them. Here’s to a long and happy marriage.

  13. Ellie66 says:

What a great wedding congrats to the happy couple!

  14. Nessa says:

Weddings like this one are usually way more fun than huge formal ones! It looks beautiful. I love that she wore yellow. So awesome!

  15. Jenna says:

Beautiful dress and a beautiful wedding. (I’m actually envious, I would have loved to have that kind of simple and outdoor wedding… but I married a man who’s family is in the wedding business. So at least all I had to do was show up, he and his dad took care of pretty much everything. Let my mom pick my dress and lord help me – I got stuck with the full princess including a freaking tiara. Oh well. Meh wedding was a decent trade for a great marriage.) I hope they are both wonderfully happy together!

Just one question? Um. Who the hades is “Questlove”? Their wedding dj?

    • Lee says:

Questlove is the drummer (and sometimes singer?) of the Roots, who were pretty big in the 90s and are now the house band on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show.

I want him to give me a giant hug. He seems like he would give great hugs.

  16. Eleonor says:

    That was cute!

  17. Jacq says:

I love the way they incorporated traditional and non-traditional elements. They look very happy, I have high hopes for them!

  18. LadyAnne says:

    Cute !

  19. bej says:

Oh wow! That looks like the coolest wedding I’ve ever seen a celeb have. I love weddings that are personal and a reflection of who the bride and groom are, rather than some huge expensive ‘look at me’ extravaganza that’s more about impressing people than expressing the couples unity and love. Looks like it would have been relaxed and fun to attend. Congrats to them, despite any age difference, they seem like the real deal.

  20. RobN says:

Are there actually people out there who don’t know a canoe when they see one?

    • Dragony says:

The first thing I noticed! (as a Canadian who has canoed many times)- arriving by kayak would have been pretty funny to behold, ha ha!

  21. Toot says:

Quest took some really good pics. Looks like a nice wedding.

  22. Jegede says:

    Russ Tamblyn! Russ Tamblyn!
You were robbed of an Oscar nod as Riff.
Autumn settings are absolutley incomparable for weddings IMO.
    Blake and America look beautiful.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Forget the Jets, this dude was Gideon in Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and I’m unapologetic in my love for that weird little film.

Lonely No More? Try Lonesome Polecats No More.

  23. heatheradair says:

I’m starting to think these guys are my wedding heroes. Getting hitched in 6 weeks myself, and am struggling with the predictable, Pinterest-fueled pressure to conform with some sort of giant production that looks and feels like it’s created expressly to be featured on someone’s wedding blog.

This, however: this screams, “we have our own ideas about our day, you can take our kayak and shove it up your stupid reclaimed whiskey barrel full of hydrangeas.”

wedding industrial complex = heatheradair is a rage-ee bride-to-be. hate the pressure.

Yay to these two. They’re the upside of unconventional (as opposed to those Courtney/Doug harbingers of apocalypse).

    • Annie says:

Yes! I feel the same way. All I want is a great ring and a beautiful dress. I cannot stand huge wedding parties for those with princess delusions. So many of these weddings are tacky! I’d rather save that money for a kick-ass honeymoon trip than inviting hundreds of people that might not even be that close to me.

For me, I want something elegant, classy, uncomplicated but special. Not too many people. Absolutely no open bar (I don’t want drunks at my wedding like at my sister’s. There was soooo much alcohol people were LOST drunk. Awful!) yes, there will be alcohol but not too much, just great food, great music.

Absolutely NO freaking bridesmaids – UGH! Worst tradition ever. I don’t want my friends in matching ugly outfits. I don’t want to force them to throw me parties. Absolutely no children at my wedding. Ceremony or party. No flower girls. No ring bearer. In my experience, they never behave. If he even dares to suggest involving his dog in the ceremony he can kindly GTFO.

If you think about it, many of these traditions are tacky and terrible, but they stick because everyone does them and we feel like we have to, too. Well I refuse. I’ve been to so many weddings, I know exactly what I don’t want. One of my sister’s friends had 20 bridesmaids!! All in pink. It was Pepto Abismal.

It screams New Money. When maybe they’re spending more than they can afford. No dumb extra costs for me. I’ll pony up in good food and good wine instead. Good music. That tends to suck at weddings.

      • Jennika says:

All I care about for my wedding is my dress and the CAKE!! I’m so excited for that cake!

      • heatheradair says:

        Amen, amen, amen.

I have the man of my dreams, I have a lovely-ass dress, I’m ready to walk down that damn aisle, thank you very much.

“I’ll pony up in good food and good wine instead. Good music.” = MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY.

We’re tying the knot in a pretty movie theatre, paying for 2 drinks per person, they can pay their own way after that. We’re keeping it to just a few hours, with options to “after party” for FREE at the hotel nearby (keeps costs lower….people are happy to bring their own gear to a hotel if they want food/drinks, whatever).

I want to walk down that aisle, pledge forever to my Mr Wonderful, toss back some bubbly, boogie with some friends, and head off on a RIGHTEOUS HONEYMOON. That’s worth the $$$. Bombay and Jameson for the drunks who can’t handle their free booze is NOT on the menu of ways we want to blow our cash.

      • the original bellaluna says:

Ladies, I got married barefoot on the beach where we had our first date (and where we got engaged), in a GORGEOUS fitted, heavily beaded (pearls) vanilla cream-coloured halter wedding dress slit up to THERE in the back, surrounded by my parents, my two children, and three close friends (and anyone else on that particular strand of beach). Our pastor officiated, no one but those who attended knew, and we had an intimate little reception at my parents’ afterward.

        It was GLORIOUS!!

    • mercy says:

I’m with you. Give me a simple, elegant dress and ring, good food and music, in a beautiful rustic setting and I’m set. I may have to have bridesmaids, but I won’t make them wear anything tacky. And I’ll probably let kids attend. It will add to the informal and fun atmosphere.

  24. aud says:

I think it’s super sweet that the sisterhood girls have all remained so close

  25. Robin says:

The Sisterhood lives on! I love that they’re still friends and hang out. Now where’s Alexis Bledel??

    • Barbara says:

I would say she’s by America in the pic, look at the forehead. It could be her. I’m sure she was there though

  26. Annie says:

The traveling pants girls were there?? Aww this makes me happy! They’re real friends 🙂 . Even America was at Blake’s wedding. That’s rare when girls get along so well after filming movies together. That’s sweet.

No comment on the yellow dress and shoelessness.

    • mercy says:

They all went to Blake’s wedding and had bachelorette party for Amber in New Orleans a couple weeks before her wedding.

  27. Marianne says:

I love that her Pants co-star were in attendance.

  28. Lindsey says:

It makes me really happy that the girls from one of my fave chick flicks were all there in attendance. It looked like a sweet, fun and peculiar (in a good way) wedding.

  29. Mira says:

Beautiful wedding. Seems like a lot of fun. Love her dress and the yellow color stands out.

  30. ella says:

I don’t like Blake but somehow the idea that the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants girls are still friends fills my black heart with joy.

Well, except Alexis Bledel. I wonder why…?

    • lucy2 says:

It says she was there too.

      • Annie says:

Yay! She was there too? Awesome 🙂

      • Karen says:

I wonder who Alexis took as her date? Maybe Vincent Kartheiser – last I heard they were dating.
I love all the STP girls and am also happy to hear that they all remain good friends and support one another.

    • ronnie says:

I think that might be her forehead in the pic with America. These are pics by a guest not the wedding album so maybe she was there?

  31. lucy2 says:

I like when people plan a wedding that’s all about them, not about trying to impress people or make others happy. This looks lovely, good luck to them.

It is nice that she and her Pants costars are still close. Blake’s hair is awful though.
Too bad none of the Bluths were there.

  32. JH says:

Love them together! They seem so happy! That dress is awesome!

  33. claire says:

wow. that dress! perfect color for her, she looks gorgeous!

  34. Suz says:

I wonder where this was? This setting is lovely. And they look low-key and very happy.

    It’s the anti-Kardashian wedding.

  35. L says:

So glad I’m already married or I would be copying this wedding. It’s stunning, lovely, and doesn’t feel fake or overdone.

    Love it.

  36. Suga says:

She seems like a free spirit, good for them. I wish them all the happiness and I like the fact that the whole cast of STTP was there 🙂

  37. Reece says:

Who needs a huge production when you’re getting married with that background. I keep staring at it. I like the yellow dress on her and it fits the setting. Imagine some big white hideous thing there…wouldn’t work. imo
A very happy couple completes it.

Ack! Too much sentiment! Need to go get my snark back.

  38. lilibet says:

    Beautiful wedding! Barefoot & pregnant?!

  39. Liberty says:

I think the dress and setting look lovely, and they look happy! Honest to God, I’ve seen stranger combinations work out just fine. Plus, these two look like they have a few laughs together, too. So…congratulations.

  40. dahlianoir says:

Lovely setting, happy couple and cheesecake ? You can’t go wrong.

    Congrats !

  41. Pix says:

This looks so lovely. I am surprised Blake is still friends with the other sisters of the travelling pants…it makes me think she’s not a complete deamon.

  42. LadyLupton says:

    I love this wedding.

  43. Laura says:

That actually looks like it was very sweet and genuine! They had a gorgeous day & the colors were perfection.

  44. mt says:

Was that the guy in the wheelchair in scary movie 2?

    • the original bellaluna says:

Don’t know about that (I try to avoid those movies) but I do know he was the sleazy record label producer from the first two Alvin & The Chipmunks movies. (Haven’t seen the third one yet.)

  45. Jayna says:

Her stomach was really pooching out in the dress. Pregnant or dress too tight?

    • the original bellaluna says:

I thought she may be pregnant too, when I saw these pix. Could be she’s preggers, or she could have just gained a touch of weight.

Either way, she looks gorgeous and happy!

      • Boo says:

She has been a tad heavier for awhile overall, but this belly looks a wee bit more concentrated than the average weight gain. I bet they’d be cute parents to Tobias Jr.!

  46. lulu says:

Ralph Kramden was at her wedding? WTF? Sorry to poop on the party but barefoot in the woods is gross. Dirty feet are gross. That cake looks like a wheel of cheese.

  47. Memphis says:

Well, he creeps me out much less than usual in these pictures…

It looks like a beautiful wedding and they look very happy together, so congrats to them! ( I still find him creepy though, I can’t help it *shrug*)

  48. BangBang says:

I am sorry but this looks like a hipster spoof wedding episode for Portlandia. Look at usssssss, we’re so kewl & like, different.

I like David Cross btw, Amber is just a bit try hard though. Her poetry is lol worthy.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Yeah. It’s a good thing that what I think doesn’t matter because in spite of myself (for realsies, not just to be snotty in scoffing) but I just couldn’t get there. I’m sure some of it is a bias on my part. Love Mr. Show and love Arrested Development, but whenever he’s not acting he makes my skin crawl with the whole ‘We all know that I’m better than you, so don’t forget it lest you curry the wrath of my smugness and belittling revolution.’ I guess she’s the The New Class equivalent of that. Man, I’m pretty unpleasant right now, huh?

  49. I Choose Me says:

Wow this looked like such a fun, no-pressure wedding. Absolutely love that first photo.

  50. Miffy says:

Love it. Also love Ugly Betty photobombing your wedding pictures. Awesome all round.

  51. Alex'sMommy says:

I wonder if anyone from House made it?

  52. Madison says:

A weird wedding from a weird couple, what a fugly yellow wedding dress just what I would expect.

  53. Fudge you, I'm going to Guam! says:

I want to see Alexis wedding! She’s my favorite.
    Is she dating anyone now?

  54. Amy says:

Now this is a wedding I would have wanted to go to! Usually I see celeb wedding pictures and I’m like “meh.”

This one was so different and so cool! For those complaining about Amber’s hair, it looks fine… not everyone wants to wear the traditional updo. This seemed like it was romantic and kind of hippie and I loved that Amber wore a yellow dress! Amber looks like she is part of the fall foliage. I love it!

And yay the Sisterhood was there!

  55. Aqua says:

I’ve loved her ever since she played Emily on GH. Wish them both nothing but happiness.

  56. stinky says:

chicken pot, chicken pot, chicken pot pie…!

  57. stinky says:

(i’d have married him – he makes me LAUGH always!)

  58. the original bellaluna says:

I can’t believe little Emily Quartermain got married! *sob* Our little girl is all grown up.

Congrats all around! I kind of side-eyed this couple when I first found out about them, but they’ve been together awhile and seem very happy and well-suited, and I wish them the best.

  59. SueAnn says:

    She looks pregnant…

  60. Elena says:

It all looks wonderful! Congratulations to the couple! Love them both! And all the guests as well! LOL!

  61. Jaycee says:

    Beautiful colors.

  62. Susan says:

Um – isn’t anyone picking up on the fact that they are 20 years apart. Imagine if this was the bride that was 49 and the groom that was 29. Everyone would be going crazy on here. Why the double standard? This is way to much of an age difference. He could easily have kids her age (does he?) This wedding was tacky to the extreme. I have seen outdoor low key wedding that are beautiful. Not so much this one.

  63. The Original Mia says:

I despise David Cross, but love Amber. I hope she’s happy.

I love her dress. Totally fits with the setting.

  64. dcypher1 says:

I luv their au natural hippie forest wedding so pretty. They look really happy together good for them.

  65. Genevieve says:

I am so jealous. David Cross is one of my celebrity crushes. You go Amber! ;o)
