Christina Aguilera’s latest Manic Panic hairstyle: tacky, dated or cute?

I miss Halloween. I don’t have kids, and my neighborhood is super-religious, to the point where all of the neighborhood kids go to church for church-y Halloween activities, so I don’t even get to hand out candy anymore. So… Halloween has gotten sort of depressing for me. That being said, it’s never been my favorite holiday, even when I was a kid. I’m too much of a pragmatic Virgo – I never saw the point in dressing up in a costume just for one day. It didn’t make sense to me! Sorry to pontificate on my Halloween sadness… it’s just that as soon as I came in this morning, it seemed like every photo set was of some celebrity at the LA Pumpkin Patch. And I miss carving up pumpkins! My queendom for a gourd!

Anyway, these are new pics of Christina Aguilera at the Pumpkin Patch yesterday. Christina brought her son, Max, of course, and her boyfriend Matthew Rutler. Before I get to the hair situation – I need to prepare myself for that one – can we just talk about her outfit? Christina has spent the last year or so wandering around LA in her underwear and little else. A year ago, Christina was wearing those horrible Leggings of Doom to the Pumpkin Patch, probably because they were the only things in her closet that fit her (and even then, not so much). But Christina finally bit the bullet and bought some normal clothes in her size, didn’t she? While this isn’t the cutest outfit or anything, I give her an A-plus for wearing something in her size.

Now, for the hair. It’s a damn mess. I’m assuming that part of that mess is probably some kind of weave or extensions, which means that at least Christina didn’t do that to (all of) her own hair. But she’s 31 years old – when you’re past your early 20s, shouldn’t you stop with the Manic Panic “OMG, I’ll look so cool if I dye part of my hair hot pink?” stuff. Honestly, I think only teenagers should be doing it.

PS… Is her purse Marc Jacobs?

Her hair is a nightmare and I really hope it’s not permanent.

Now something nice: Her clothes look like they fit. Way to go, Christina!

    • Sharon says:

I was thinking the same thing! Yay to clothes that actually fit! And jeans??? Hell must have finally frozen over since she chose not to step out in god-awful black leggings again. Outfit: cute. Hair: horrific

  2. marie says:

I refuse to complain about her clothing, cause at least she’s fully dressed. On the hair, I am guessing that while growing up Rainbow Brite was her favorite cartoon.

  3. CamColty says:

I actually dig her outfit especially the purse. But f NO that hair is hideous and absolutely dated

  4. Ainsley says:

Christina looks like a mess all around, but her son is always so cute and smiling. He never looks afraid of the paps. I’ll just ignore Christina trying to look like a teen and pay attention to the happy kid instead.

  5. HotPockets says:

I don’t think Christina is that heavy. She just doesn’t carry her weight well and then wears clothes that are usually way too small, not to mention her weight gain looks more like a diet of alcohol and delusion. Her outfit looks appropriate here, but girl, your hair looks like it is about to fall out!

I just watched “The Shining” the other night and Christina’s little boy looks just like the boy in that movie.

  6. ladybert62 says:

The hair is hideous and screams LOOK AT ME.

She needs a therapist not a colorist.

  7. Arock says:

If the title of the article didn’t have her name in it, I would have thought this was one of the “teen moms” or whatever that show is. Said it before- truck stop rainbow brite.

  8. serena says:

Someone need to tell her she’s not a teenager anymore.

  9. Jayna says:

I am impressed with Xtina on The Voice. She is an excellent coach and mentor to her singers, the best of the group.

    • k says:

She was the worst judge last season. She managed to make every comment and situation all about her and seemed like a clueless narcissist. This season she did a complete 180 and so now I totally agree with you, she is a great judge. Gives good feedback, is very kind and gracious and for the first time on the show I like her a lot and think she seems like a nice and caring person. Good work on changing it up on her part. I have respect for anyone that can do that.

  10. lori says:

She might not have invented age inappropriate dressing but she is the post child for it.
I think she’s to old for this look, but she’s not “old” you know?

  11. some bitch says:

Why, Christina, why? This girl has the best voice paired up with the worst style and worst attitude, so as much as I like her singing (when she actually sings) I’m always repelled by everything else.

Outfit reminds me of, well, the popular girls from high school who got married by 21 and are now reliving their teens now that they hit 30.

    • gg says:

Bingo. At least she’s wearing pants! Maybe one day she’ll grow up and stop doing horrible things to her hair. But until then it’s Halloween, 24/7.

  12. Jessica says:

I think her hair is cute!

  13. Merritt says:

I don’t think Christina is heavy. She doesn’t know how to dress. She never really did. If you look at her clothing choices over the years, most of them have been horrible.

    • Girl says:

True. She’s just been thinner and frankly we let skinnier girls “get away with” more. And for the record, I don’t think she’s fat, she’s just not quite as skinny as she was. She looks fine. She just needs to dress to suit her body shape better.

As for the hair, it looks like she’s trying to channel a muppet. I think his name is Skeeter?

      • Hakura says:

Haven’t heard anyone refer to ‘Skeeter’ in aaages! *sigh* Old school.

Actually, her hair (like this) always makes me think more of ‘Animal’. xD

  14. G. says:

The good thing is Manic Panic is a bad brand of dye and it’ll fade pretty quick.

The bad news is it looks terrible. Most teenagers I know wouldn’t even do what she did with her hair. What was she thinking?

  15. heatheradair says:

Funny — if I’d ended up in a pumpkin patch with her in a non-celebrity world (where she was just one more townie hick who’s slightly behind the times), there’s no way I’d think she was “heavy.” It’s the fact that we know what she USED to look like that creates the head games for me…..she used to be this 90-lbs waif — then she grew up into a relatively normal-sized 20-something with hips, and…..now this.

BUT — if I’d never seen her before, I’d think she was an average-sized girl with a cute purse and an adorable kid and some “halloween hair.”

  16. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

On the voice, she had little whisps of blue on the very tips of her hair and it looked cute. This, no so much.

  17. amanda says:

At least her clothes fit her. This is progress.

  18. lucy2 says:

Yay for clothes that actually fit. No on the hair.
I think she should quit the spray tan, buy a new, classier, appropriately sized wardrobe, and cut her hair shoulder length. She’d look like a whole new woman.

  19. Blondie says:

I think she looks great and I love her on the voice. Her son is so cute, and he looks so happy, and that’s what it’s all about.

  20. Red Starburst says:

last album she copied lady gaga’s style a little bit, this album she’s trying to copy nicki minaj/katy perry’s colorful hair thing…come on Christina. Back to Basics/Stripped she was somewhat of an original. I miss that

  21. GrandPoobah says:

I dunno-I kinda like her hair. It matches who she is.

And she’s only 31. I’d hate to have to pack it in and start wearing sweater sets and mom jeans at 31. I want to have fun with my look just as much as anyone else.

I don’t understand this ‘expiration date’ nonsense. Why can’t women have fun with their look after some perfunctory age between 30 and 40? If they feel good about themselves and are confident in their look, I don’t see the problem.

And her kid’s hat is ADORBS!! he’s adorable too but I just love his jaunty little hat.

    • TLC says:

I’m not a huge fan of her hair, but I am a huge fan of this comment.

      “Expiration Date” indeed! Well put!

    • Hakura says:

Honestly, I don’t think it’s the ‘style’ of the hair that’s the problem, just the execution. It could’ve been done better quality-wise.

Here, It looks like one of those ‘do it yourself’ jobs that comes across messy, too ‘in your face’, as opposed to subtle & more classy (even still using fun colors/experimenting).

  22. ashley says:

My hair is actually in a rainbow. Why? I’m a stylist. We also just got in special effects semi color and cannot sell them unless showcased. If she wants to have it good for her. Until this post I never realized how nasty this site could be. Sometimes funny, sometimes snarky, but today, rude.
A lot of women, older than teenage, are getting pink to show support/awareness for breast cancer. Use your heads a bit more before being rude. Some of us are using the tacky rainbow brite hair to raise money for a cause.

    • anon33 says:

If her (or your) hair color is in fact in support for breast cancer, that’s great and good for her (you), but it doesn’t make hot pink hair any less subjectively ugly to certain people. I can say I don’t like the color pink without it meaning that I am somehow “against” support for breast cancer, nor is me not liking pink hair in any way rude. Your logic is flawed.

      • Hakura says:

I agree with you. There’s nothing at all wrong with disliking a certain color on hair or someone in particular.

Finding the color unflattering on someone doesn’t mean any disrespect to breast cancer awareness. (Nor do we have any proof that was even her reason for choosing pink).

  23. Chell says:

She looks so pretty without all of that heavy make up & her outfit is perfect for hitting the pumpkin patch with her son. Now with that being said her hair looks HORRIBLE!

  24. Christian says:

YAY for wearing actual clothing. I disagree that colored hair should only be reserved for people in their early 20’s. I’m 28 and if I didn’t have to work my grown up job I would totally dye my hair purple. I’ve always had a thing for unnatural hair colors. But Xtina needs to go big or go home! Either stay blonde or dye all of your hair pink, the half and half crap looks a mess.

    • Hakura says:

Oh yay! Someone else who would go purple! I’m currently unemployed (due to health reasons), so I’m totally going for it (purple with some highlights) while I have the chance. =) My friends think I’m nuts.

  25. j.eyre says:

Nothing to say about the pictures but about your neighborhood – that’s a bummer. When I was a kid, we decorated our church as a haunted house replete with a hearse on the lawn, recently dug graves and had a casket at the altar with a ghost bride. It was terrifying and quite fun. Sorry to hear you are without a gourd. Nobody should be without a gourd.

  26. aud says:

She looks soooo much better with that outfit on. It even makes her look thinner than the other stuff she manages to stuff herself into

  27. Petra says:

I like her hair and I think it sucks bigtime to tell people to dress differently from some age on. Come on, she’s 31, not 50. Having coloured hair is fun and I don’t think that someone or society should stop people from having innocent fun like this just because they passed some age barrier. The world would be a terribly boring place if we all behaved the same.
I myself am looking forward to getting fully grey hair so that my manic panic colours will hold better. I’m 34. Thank you very much for telling me to stop this, too 😉

  28. Annelise says:

    “My queendom for a gourd!”

I love you for this, Kaiser 🙂

  29. skuddles says:

That hair is completely ridiculous – even worse than her usual horrid white blond. But it’s nice to see her wearing something besides the spandex leggings.

  30. La Calabaza says:

    Her child is ADORABLE!

  31. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

Her hair looks ridiculous and awful. But at least she is wearing clothing that appears to fit her comfortably and she doesn’t have her a** and t*ts on display so at least that is something. I love her son’s hoodie, very cute.

  32. Jennifer12 says:

She’s nearly 32, so it would be nice if she acted it. However, coloring her hair is inoffensive even though she seems to still think she’s 18. And it’s nice to see her giving in and buying clothes in her size that look okay. Better jeans than endless leggings.

  33. lena says:

you know what? i am nearly 27 and i dye my hair with manic panic cotton candy pink. why? because! whatever! i like it and i don’t care what other people think.

  34. Victoria says:

I think she’s dressed fine, I would wear that! The hair is a nightmare but she’s our Christina we need her to not get it right all the time!
I also would dye my hair purple and be punk if I wasn’t a boring ass teacher boo 🙁

  35. heyheyhey says:

who cares about age… 31 is not old at all, especially if you don’t look your age which some 30+ year olds definitely don’t. i am 25 and still look like a teenager.
