Charlize Theron & Seth McFarlane had a sushi date last night: cute or terrible?

First of all, Charlize Theron’s hair has grown out to the point where she and Ellen DeGeneres could be twinsies, right? This is Ellen’s hair completely. Secondly (and more importantly), these are photos of Charlize out to dinner at Matsuhisa with her new boyfriend, Seth McFarlane. Did I jump the gun by calling Seth her boyfriend? Eh. According to sources, Seth and Charlize met in January for business-related stuff (she signed on to his planned western/spoof A Million Ways To Die In the West), then spent some social time together late in the awards season, partied together after the Oscars and now it looks like the rumors were true – they are together!

These were taken last night in West Hollywood, and Seth and Charlize came out of a sushi place. Note how Charlize is hiding her face in some of these pics? Do you think that’s just her natural reticence or is she actually shame-dating Seth and she doesn’t want people to know? My general thought on Charlize is that she would never shame-date someone. If Charlize is going to take the trouble to bang you, she doesn’t mind if people know. More likely she’s hiding her face because she just didn’t want to be photographed at that moment or whatever. And whatever she has going with Seth is barely a month old, so it is a little early to be so public, you know? You can see more photos of Seth and Charlize here.

She could do so much better. While she looks cute, she also looks kinda embarrassed. Good, she should be for hanging out with that douche.

  2. Maxine says:

Love it! Hope he’s nice to her.

  3. GoldenState says:

Ugh, terrible. He strikes me as a douche. I thought Charlize was better than that? UGH!
(Although, now when I think about it, Charlize did date the lead singer of Third Eye Blind, who seems like a hot hot hot jerk.)

    • oooowl says:

Charlize is pretty well known for being bitchy.
Also her since of humour gels with his really well.
      Honestly, they seem well matched.

    • anon33 says:

LOL goldenstate thanks for the flashback!!! I forgot they had dated!

    • Ally8 says:

So I guess Jason Segel wasn’t the only one down there at the bottom of the Hollywood dating barrel…

  4. Liv says:

    TERRIBLE!

  5. Joanna says:

oh, c’mon, Charlize! I wanna see you with a real hottie.

    • jaye says:

Well, she DID make a play for Fassbender but it didn’t seem like he was biting. Hmmm…bitten by Fassbender…….’scuse me while I splash my face with cold water.

  6. Chelsea's handler says:

Terrible. The man is slime. The thought of him getting to have sex with her almost makes me feel sick.

    • Emily says:

Same here… he has a cartoon character face!
That’s about all the character he has though!

      • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

haha agreed…he looks just like that redic cartoon baby on his show Family Guy

      • V4Real says:

I don’t get all the hate for Seth but to each his own.

I also don’t understand why people are saying Charlize can do much better when this woman is known for being a b_tch. Perhaps she needs a man that can melt the heart of this Ice Queen.

      • Spooks says:

I never heard anyone say she is a bitch. What did she do?

    • Eve says:

Well, her friendship with Chelsea Handler started making perfect sense to me now (birds of a feather…).

      • stellalovejoydiver says:

Both bitches with a low brow sense of humor.

      • EscapedConvent says:

Wow. I never heard that she was friends with Chelsea Handler. Really? That is so much worse than banging Seth MacFarlane. The comments I was about to make about this “new couple” just got blown to bits.

All right, I’ll think of something neutral to say about them—she makes him look taller. Out of ideas now.

      • Camille (TheOriginal) says:

Yup. This in spades ^ @Eve and stella.

  7. bea says:

    Ut-oh……here come’s the SMcF hate!

I don’t think she’s ashamed. They’re laughing at getting papped in those pics. I’m sure he’s really smart, witty and fun to be around. I even think he’s good looking, altho he appears to be a little on the short side and those sneakers are a deal breaker for me. And an added plus is that he won’t need to borrow any money from her!

    • Stubbylove says:

Totally agree! Don’t get all the SethMac hate – and he’s got his own so wouldn’t be pathetic non-actor like her ex Stuart. Just don’t get the height difference – she won’t be able to wear kickass heals w/him next to her – unless no once cares that he’ll look like Stewie.

  8. Roo says:

Just. Gross. Like her casual outfit, though.

  9. moon says:

ugh, but at least charlize can handle the douche. wish she was with fassbender instead though!

  10. RuddyZooKeeper says:

Camera flash after dark is especially wicked.

  11. Toniko says:

She looked desperate for a men, since that Fassbender W photo shoot. Just a few steps away from Cam Diaz’s desperateness.

  12. Yellowshaba says:

Women find a funny man extremely attractive!! I know i do….could just be a business dinner or they are pals

    • Tessa says:

He’s funny, he’s wildly successful, he’s not ugly by any means… I don’t really see what’s so bad about Seth McFarlane.

      • stinky says:

i know? yall’z have already called him ‘slime’, ‘douche’ – i TOTALLY dont get it. what did i miss?? the only thing wrong w/ this picture in my book is her outfit AND hair, but so far it seems those are both a hit w/ everybody. i give up.

      • jaye says:

Generally speaking, I like him. I think he’s adorable, smart and funny (mostly) but he HAS made some spectacularly douchetastic comments about what he’s looking for in a woman. The “I’m not looking for an intellectual equal” springs to mind. That and his propensity for serial dating young starlets…if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it might be…y’know…a duck. I mean, he can screw who he wants, but all signs seem to point to douche.

  13. Claudia says:

Such a random couple, but I kind of love it 🙂 Charlize probably has a wicked sense of humor and must be fun to hang out with. I wonder if five or six months from now we’ll be seeing photos of Seth with Jackson? Hmm hmmm

    • jaye says:

Not bloody likely…he doesn’t seem like the kid friendly type.

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

“I wonder if five or six months from now we’ll be seeing photos of Seth with Jackson? Hmm hmmm”

Haha, No. I doubt Seth is into settling down(right now), but if then I doubt it will be with a woman going on 40 and who has a baby, he will go for a younger, unattached, low maintenance woman.

  14. lisa2 says:

I like her, but there always seems to be something off about her regarding men. I don’t know if she has really dated anyone since her break up with Stewart.

Not interested in them as a couple. But good luck on that.

  15. Sisi says:

That is a good jacket on Charlize. Im indifferent on this couple, only here for the clothes 😀

  16. GossipG says:

he looks like a hyena who just got a VERY nice (&EASY) meal.He must be very funny. She strikes me as a ‘i really like funny guys’ type a garl.

  17. Zvonk says:

He looks very pleased with himself, which is understandable, as she’s SO out of his league. She could do so much better. I’ve very disappointed in her and for her.

  18. nofkksgiven says:

They could be a good match. Wasn’t Charlize smoking that apple bong a few years back…I think they probably have fun chill times together. Charlize seems open-minded..

  19. Talie says:

He’s a playa… and according to Lainey, she can come on a bit strong. So, who knows how this will work?

  20. SydneySpy says:

Tsk. I was saving him for my daughter….

  21. Lexi says:

He may be kind of annoying but she could do a lot worse. He’s doing well on his own and doesn’t seem that bad.

  22. kingkayski says:

As beautiful as Charlize is ,she seems to be always the one hanging on to a man, like her pictures with Fass last year ,almost climbing over the Fassdong ,now this ,for why Char?

  23. Eileen says:

    NOW she looks desperate

  24. Marty says:

God I love her street style!

  25. Eve says:

I hope she’s content with NOT being his “intellectual equal”.

“It’s exhausting dating several people at once. It gets tiresome, because people think they have you prematurely figured out. . . .I’m not somebody who has to go home and talk about theoretical physics at the end of a day when I’ve already been wringing my brain dry. I don’t necessarily look for an intellectual equal. I’d rather have somebody whose company excites me. That’s what my father had. My father and my mother were not–they were not intellectual equals by any means.” (Seth MacFarlane — The New Yorker).

Yes, that’s a lovely man right there.

    • T.Fanty says:

      *jaw drop*

Now let’s revisit that whole “was the Oscars sexist” debate with that quote right there.

      • Eve says:

        @ T.Fanty:

That was his answer to why he seemed to be such an intellectual but only dated starlets/bimbos.

I’m honestly baffled by people who say that there isn’t anything wrong with MacFarlane. Seriously? I’m not even going into how sexist, ageist and mysoginistic his show (done three times) is. A thought/quote like the one I posted bove must come from a certified, mysoginistic douchebag of the highest order.

People can like him all they want but they should at least admit the bleeding obvious!

    • Suze says:

It’s too bad his poor mama was so much smarter than his daddy- left Seth with an inferiority complex, I see.

      • stinky says:

ok, i think im getting the bigger picture now for sure. v-e-r-y interesting. i knew guys like that in HIGH SCHOOL. weird.

    • T.Fanty says:

      @Eve:

Yes to everything you just said. By his logic, the very act of askig a woman on a date is an implicit insult to her. I am really aghast at his arrogance.

    • marie says:

      wow, that’s pretty douchetastic.

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

That quote of him is weird, since for me intelligence is one of the factors that constitutes exciting company, but whatever.

    • jaye says:

Yeah…this. I mean you don’t HAVE to go home and have deep philosophical conversations, but whats wrong with someone who is smart AND exciting?

    • Merman says:

“wringing my brain dry” = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jpoki4wBwtA

Don’t worry,I don’t think anyone wants to talk about physics with you McFarlane.

      • EscapedConvent says:

Oh for !@#$s sake! The very thought that he considers what he does “wringing his brain dry….”!

Can’t he find a nice empty-headed Kardashian to hang out with?

    • j.eyre says:

Would this be the right place to mention Seth is on my $h@mef*ck L!st?

      • Eve says:

The right moment and place for mentioning that should be when you’re hiding behind your closet’s door, in the dark, just to yourself (and only if you promise to slap yourself afterwards — because I can’t do that from Brazil).

      • T.Fanty says:

        A shandeh un a charpeh!

(And why, oh why can I not find a gif of Jazz Singer when Neil Diamond gets disowned? Clearly, the internet must be broken)

    • Bijlee says:

LOL!! WHAT INTELLECT IS THIS MAN TALKING ABOUT?????? He makes fart, rape, sexist, and racist jokes for a living! He plagiarizes other tv shows then his own shows and is so unbelievably formulaic!

I hate to be that gal, but south park does the same in a much more charming and funny way then this guy who literally does nothing else besides provide voices and occasionally write. The south park guys can be tone deaf at times, but they care about social commentary/criticism/satire. They are good at waht they do. As evidenced by the fact that they have a tony award winning and highly successful broadway musical and Oscar noms. Listen to trey Parker speak, that man I have a huge crush on!

…anyways south park love aside (sorry about that). Seth mcfarlane strikes me as someone who thinks he is smarter than he really is. If you read his wiki, its as if his royal douchelord has been told since he was a child how special, smart, and great he is. The man acts as if he knows so much theoretical physics, but honestly get a grip on yourself. I’m majoring in physics and math and taking higher level physics classes and I have a hard enough time explaining those concepts to people. I’m really sick of people reading Brian Greene or Michio kakus books or even tyson and then thinking they know everything there is to know about theoretical physics. Fyi you don’t. Seth acts like he does.

It’s insulting to my highly talented professors who do this for a living. They are great books, but come on! It’s like reading about pi and then thinking you know everything there is to know about math. The only thing it makes you is better informed, not smarter than anyone else.

      • stellalovejoydiver says:

I love South Park as well, so much more wittier and intelligent. I can´t get through an episode of Family Guy or American Dad.

      • Bijlee says:

@stellalovejoydiver I used to dislike south park, but then I started watching the show. I love it so much. Best episode of all time is “the return of the fellowship of the rings to the two towers” so funny. I really like trey Parker he’s a real sweetheart. I’ve watched so many interviews of him and I’m surprised by how much I’ve come to like him. He seems like a douche, but he’s really not. I love Matt stone too. He’s a good guy and very humble about his life. PLUS he majored in math at UC. Dude is smart. They are such a good team.

      • Eve says:

LOVE Trey Parker and Matt Stone, too. Love everything they do.

My favourite South Park episodes are, for obvious reasons, Cartoon Wars: Parts I and II :D.

      • Beatriz says:

Your post sums up everything I was thinking 😀 +1! Also, I too enjoy South Park and agree with stellalovejoydiver, I can’t stomach an episode of Family Guy.

    • dana says:

That New Yorker article was a real doozy, and it’d be hard for his fans to still defend McFarlane after reading it.

      http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/06/18/120618fa_fact_hoffman

There’s the quote Eve pointed out, and also how he defended his racist, misogynistic jokes by first saying he was really making a joke about those people believed that type of stuff.

But, then, caught with his hand in the cookie jar, he admits that he just finds those jokes funny and that those jokes work because there’s truth in those stereotypes.

  26. GoodCapon says:

He seems embarrassed in the photos.

  27. Maria says:

    the pictures are hilarious.

its like she is totally ashamed and he has a “YES WE TOTALLY DID IT” smile. like a guy that had sex for the first time, he is almost beaming with pride.

i also think he is a big douche, a big douche who can sing.

  28. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

At least they are interesting. I kinda like the beautiful actress/funny dork next door type guy together. Everyone complains what a womanizing loser he is. Who knows. If so, maybe she can whip the douche out of him. He is cute, funny and smart. I could see where women are a little weak around him for a while, he comes across as super charming.

  29. lucy2 says:

Something about him repulses me. I feel like she could do a lot better, but she must enjoy hanging out with him.

  30. InVain says:

Why did I think he and Emilia Clarke were still banging it out? Neither pairing bothers me…she seems fun and he’s funny.

    • jaye says:

When he was asked about the “relationship” with Emilia Clarke he seemed to be sort of downplaying it. From pics, she seemed maybe more into it in a romantic sense than he was, maybe that’s why it fizzled.

      • EllaM says:

Downplaying? I remember him saying that he’s not seeing anyone special or something like that. I bet she loved that comment. Who doesn’t want to be nothing special?

  31. jamie says:

Meh, I don’t believe this one. I seriously doubt they’re dating. They’re doing a movie together and she is WAY too old for him. I don’t think he does age-appropriate dating.

  32. Toniko says:

Have you seen her and Hamm at “Graham Norton show”? She was throwing herself at him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOP9OMmAiRU

  33. Nev says:

Lainey’s take on this is hilarious!!!!

    NO SHAME IN THE GAME!!!

    hahahaha

    hush.

  34. Meghan says:

Wish I could trade spots with her. Huge fan of Seth and always love him in interviews.

  35. toto says:

She looks like Olivia Newton John before plastic surgeries.

  36. Zombie Shortcake says:

You just know he was making dumb ass double entendres about ‘sushi’ all night. Those orbs on Theron in the first pic are ghosts going “Ooooooooo… don’t do it. Oooooo…leave now” Heed the ghosts Charlize.

  37. Ag says:

    I’m disappointed in Charlize.

  38. c says:

She strikes me as really nasty- looks like she has a mean streak. I also think she is so overrated in the looks dept- she’s very cookie cutter.

His teeth/massive smile looks like dentures or bad veneers. He looks like a dork. Isn’t she supposed to be closeted? I read this rumor a lot of places, so who knows..

  39. Alana Fajina says:

Haven’t read the post yet, but the idea of these two = GROSS.
    Charlize. Honey.
You can do SO much better.

Am I the only weirdo who secretly hopes for a reunion between her and ST? What’s up with him these days anyway??

  40. skuddles says:

And this, of course, is why he dumped his girlfriend recently. He was spotted with Charlize… rumors abound… he dumps the girlfriend a couple weeks later… then him and Charlize lay low for a few weeks… and now they’re spotted in public. It’s cute how they tried to be discreet – but instead they were just as obvious as could be 🙂

  41. videli says:

I find him repulsive. If she let this guy touch her, Charlize lost a ton of sexy points in my book.

  42. Diana says:

Oh, Charlize, what are you doing girl? Just no…

  43. Ett says:

Anyone see him on that show with what’s-his-face-Maher? He couldn’t pronounce “Academia”. lol it’s on youtube

    • EscapedConvent says:

Really? HA! So much for finding your intellectual equal, Seth MacFarlane.

  44. Simone says:

It’s a business dinner. Don’t get carried away. They are making a movie together. If it was a romantic date, Charlize is the type to hold the dates in a very private place In fact, she even said she does that.

  45. mkyarwood says:

I love me some Ellen hair (on everyone!) but eff this match.

  46. Izzy says:

OK, fine. As long as she keeps her hands off my Forever Viking Dong.

  47. Grace says:

Maybe they’re working on a project. Isn’t she with the blonde True Blood guy?
IIf she’s really sleeping with him all I can say is: No. Back away slowly Charlize.

  48. Marie Antoinette Jr. says:

I didn’t like him at all until I saw the movie Ted. That movie had me & DH laughing until it hurt. We must have watched the fight scene a dozen times.

And I think Charlize is a very unique person–did anyone see her on Top Chef?
In interviews she seems smart and pragmatic and funny so I can see why she would like the irreverent, bluntly honest sensibilities of McFarland.

But then again I’m also one of those rare women who thought his “we saw your boobs” song at the oscars was hilarious. So maybe Charlize is just weird like I am? Anyway, I think they are a good match.
