Tom Cruise finally opens up on Katie’s surprise divorce filing: ‘I didn’t expect it’

Tom Cruise

These are photos of Tom Cruise at the London Battersea Heliport after he and Olga Kurylenko did the Marchesa walk of shame at the UK premiere of Oblivion. I love the above photo simply for the vantage point involved. It’s like Tom’s lifts are walking him around and not vice versa. Tom’s still doing some hardcore international promotion for this movie, and I don’t know how well it will fare in theaters, but it does have Morgan Freeman’s authoritative voice to help reel in viewers. People might not want to see Tom when he’s not jumping off skyscrapers, but they love to hear Morgan’s boom, so the movie will probably fare decently, and Tom will get all the credit for it because he’s such a “movie star.”

Some interviews from Tom’s recent promotional tour of Germany (we didn’t get those photos, which is just as well since you people aren’t showing the love to Tom posts lately) are still filtering out. In particular, Tom has admitted to a German television show that he was very surprised when Katie filed for divorce last June. The message here? Tom thought everything was just fine with him and Katie in their marriage. Because to high-profile Scientologists, everything is always fine — great even. Look at how John Travolta and Kelly Preston put on a happy-happy-joy-joy show for the cameras. There’s nothing to complain about! Nothing is ever wrong. Unless, of course, you’re an awful suppressive person who is necessarily a beacon of negativity. Let’s catch up Tom and his sudden confessional move:

Tom Cruise

Mum’s no longer the word. Tom Cruise has been mostly silent on his 2012 split from Katie Holmes, but as he tours the world to promote his sci-fi film Oblivion, he’s finally opening up a little about how he felt after their much-publicized breakup. In a new interview with German TV network ProSieben, the actor admits he was surprised when Holmes filed for divorce on June 29, five days before his 50th birthday.

“I didn’t expect it,” he confesses of the end of his five-year marriage to the star, with whom he shares daughter Suri, 6.

Afterward, he says, he “had an unbelievable amount of time to think about it” as he threw himself into his work. The takeaway from all that thinking? “Life is a challenge.”

“To be 50 and to have experiences and to think you have a grip on everything, and then it hits you — this is it, what life can do to you,” he tells ProSieben. “Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humor.”

[From Us Weekly]

Naturally, Tom’s camp (the CO$) has already crawled out of the woodwork to deny this story, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true. According to Gossip Cop, Tom’s quotes were not only taken “out of context,” but his rep also say that parts of the interview were “made up.” Nice try, Tom.

Here’s a photo of Katie chatting on the phone while she walked through New York City last week. It must be quite a relief to not have to use burner phones anymore.

    Suck it, bitch.
Now you know how Nicole Kidman felt.

  2. Yellowshaba says:

    Amelia ha!

  3. Faye says:

I call shennanigans on Tom being surprised that Katie wanted a divorce. Right before the divorce, didn’t she visit him at a hotel overseas and stay in a different room, and the hotel covered up security cameras so as not to catch them fighting or something?

I do, however, believe that he was surprised she had the gumption to plot and file for divorce behind his back. He probably thought she was so beaten down, she’d never do it. To which I say: ha ha! Ha ha, Tom (any Simpsons fans here?)!!!

    • JenD says:

That, and he had her every move monitored so he was surprised she was able to pull it off without her “assistants” informing him beforehand.

And I’m slightly ashamed to admit this, but Tom looks kinda hot in these pictures.

    • Diana says:

Me, me! I’m a simpsons fan and me and my icon are laughing at Tom’s antics, ha ha! Indeed.

  4. Buckwild says:

Really? Do you need to point out his lifts in every post? Some people are short and just want to look taller (see: stilettos). Annoying how you’ve clamped down on it like a bulldog and won’t let it go.

On a side note, I wish I could know what kind of work Tom is getting. How the hell does he look “freshened” up without looking all plastic? What kind of alien magic is this??

    • whipmyhair says:

      Xenu does a mean facial!

    • MoxyLady007 says:

The tiny narcissist is sensitive about his height. So we point it out. All. The. Time.
Because he is evil. He is the grinning skull of a cult that destroys lives and families and uses slave labor. So if we can needle him about his height while he walks around in boots probably hand sewn by COS minions believing its owed to him because he is such a “big being” then so be it.

      • TG says:

Exactly. We will never stop making fun of this Goon. I totally Agree that those lifts in the top pic are walking him. LMAO. Tiny control freak Tom got his *ss handed to him and I love it.

      • Lizzie K says:

A cult that also practices child abuse, brainwashing and harassment of those who dare to speak up against it.

Tom Cruise should be prosecuted for contributing to a criminal organization. Evil indeed.

    • joy says:

I’m sure that this has been asked before, but what’s the giveaway that he’s wearing lifts? I mean, I don’t doubt that he’s wearing them, but how can you tell that they’re lifts?

      • TG says:

I am no expert but for me, first of all you can see the big heel he always has on every shoe he wears, but the lift part is obvious in where his ankle falls in the shoe. Look at that top pic and many others. It always looks like his ankle is about to fall out. You ankles are supposed to be at the base of your shoe and not the top. He needs to follow the advice of Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones. “Never forget what you are, the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you.”
        Jon

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

I completely agree this guy is fair game for the lifts…he sucks at life on so many levels…what I dont like is how others, innocents like Keith Urban, are constantly called out for it. i dont know if it’s bc KU is with Nicole now, so it’s a subconscious thought…I guess I am sensitive to KU bc I have so much love for that guy lol…but yeah, I’m OK with us harping all day long about Tiny Tom and his lift issues

      • V4Real says:

        I’m agree Emma

Tom Cruise is fair game because he does suck because of what he stands for. That being said I too don’t like it when others such as Keith Urban and my RDJ are put on blast for it. Plus, RDJ wears the coolest kicks and Tiny Tom could never pull that look off.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I could say that it’s due solely to the fact that everyone’s wise to his complicity vis-a-vis the sickening practices of the cult that make him an easy target, but height thing seems older. I suppose it’s the only way to get a rise out of him (ugh), but who knows? I’m tiny (5’0) and even without taking the bait, people didn’t stop cracking about my height until I was about 24, so it’ll happen either way. No biggie.

    • Snowpea says:

My ex father in law told me one drunken night that the reason he looks so good is because for the last 40 years he has masturbated and rubbed his, er come onto his face and left it there like a face mask for half an hour.

True story. Dude was 70 and he LITERALLY could have passed for 40 (though I could never kiss him on the cheek ever again!)

Who knows? Maybe Tommygirl is using the old jizz facial beauty routine! 😉

  5. Lucy2 says:

I can see that being true. He lives in a very protected little CO$ bubble, and I’m sure thinks it’s a privilege to be married to him. He probably never imagined she would leave like that, and had been plotting out how to do so for some time.

  6. dorothy says:

Really have to give it to Katie. She did what it took to get her child away from Scientology and their influence.

  7. Hautie says:

I bet Cruise was surprised, that he had not effectively cut Katie off from her parents.

That Katie manage to spend at least a couple of months planning her escape.

While he had at least 6 people spying on her at all times.

I bet those 6 people who failed him… are just as surprised too!

That they are still living in that hole, out in the desert of California. For this breach of security.

    • Mia 4S says:

See now scarier than anything else is what you point out here. What happened to the Xenu-drones who “failed” and let this happen? Of course it was nothing Tiny did, no way! His ex-wife just likes burner phones. Absolutely chilling.

It is scary to imagine who got punished. I realized I really cannot watch any of Tiny’s movies anymore. His smile makes me very uneasy.

    • Hoya_chick says:

Haha I know! Those people who were spying on Katie for him are definitely being punished errr I mean audited somewhere!

Katie’s whole marriage and escape would make a terrific movie for sure.

Oh Bedhead, do you guys measure the popularity of a story only by the number of comments or the clicks as well? I usually click and read most stories but I don’t comment on everything.

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

That’s what I was thinking. If they still had that circular track on their compound, the one encircling a palm tree, you can bet they have those minions running it day and night..it’s scary for the CO$ gets away with behind closed doors. Even worse, that the govt seems to be either too intimidated or preoccupied to really investigate them.

      • TrustMeOnThis says:

They still have it. It’s indoors now so you can’t see it on google maps any more.

Hi OSA! Don’t route out. Just blow. 🙂

      • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

What? That thing seriously still exists? I would say that’s unbelievable, but it’s not. Scary thing about it being indoors, is they can control potentially extreme temperatures one way or another now! SCARY

  8. Eleonor says:

Nice try Tom, saddenly we all know you’ve jumped all over the couches throwing epic tantrums for weeks after you got dumped.

  9. Sabrine says:

Life is a challenge? Oh please. Life is a challenge for a family on the poverty line trying to put food on the table every day.

  10. Mata says:

I love his choice of words. “You think you have a grip on something…”. Um, yeah, Tom, the tightness of that grip was part of the problem.

  11. serena says:

Ahahahah I’m so amused, yeah it was totally unexpected Tom..of course he thought she would never have the gut to leave him but there you have it, Katie wins over everything and you’re just a sore loser. LOL

  12. Joanne says:

When was the last time you saw Suri Tom? Yes, I know you have been busy, but you have a private jet and can really be anywhere you want, as quickly as you want. What about weekends? It’s baffling that you seem to see her every so often, which seems to be along time between visits.

As someone else said, now you know how Nicole felt, but you got the kids and she didn’t. I worry about Suri when she is of age, will you be doing your scientology mumbojumbo on her then?

    • CF98 says:

Nah for an intents and purposes Tom is out of Suri’s life for good but will live on in the “rags”. He’s not her biological father and if forced Katie would’ve revealed that.

Do you think Katie lets him actually see Suri? I don’t not after all the trouble she went through to leave him.

      • Belle says:

Depends on the real custody agreement. If it says that Tom gets to see her, much as she would probably like to, I doubt Katie would try to stop him.

We may not know what the ‘real’ agreement says… might say that Katie decides on any visitation, but will not publicly deny the ‘shared custody’ story that was put out. If they really do have shared custody, I don’t know if Tom is purposely distancing himself from Suri because he actually believes in all of the cult crap, or if he may see Suri more than we think… privately though, so as not to upset the many ‘church’ members who are required to sever ties with family members who happen to be nasty SP’s.

  13. Mich says:

I thought Tom was a higher level being who knew everything?

    • Pop! says:

Yeah. The higher level beings are supposed to have telekinesis and be able to teleport!
He should have been able to track her All. The. Time.
What blow the a higher being’s ego.

    • Belle says:

I’ve wondered about this myself. For a ‘normal’ Co$ member who fails at something… a marriage, a job, managing a psychological disorder, etc., the blame would be placed upon that person, right? They would be told some cult-o crappo that they need to repeat auditing programs (at their own expense, of course) to uncover some tidbit they have failed to reveal… gravely important shit like a vision from a previous life that includes corn-on-the-cob and a tambourine. You know, serious stumbling blocks that keep you from being all you can be… and eventually (if you have enough money and/or sell your soul to the church and/or commit a million-trillion-bazillion years of service to the church) going ‘clear’, THEN moving on to becoming a super-super-special-superior-being (aka SSSSB)… like Tom!

What happens when you are already a clear, super-super-special-superior being… like Tom, and you fail at something? You fail at something really basic like warding off the common cold, reading someone’s thoughts, moving at the speed of sound, leaping tall buildings in a single bound… or at stopping your brainwashed wife from getting the jump on you and GETTING OUT?? I guess Tom doesn’t have to repeat any auditing programs… just fork over a bunch more money and possibly, agree not to have public visits with SP’s?? Will he still have his magic powers, or no? Will he be vulnerable to say… a bunion? Hmmmm. It’s all so confusing. 🙁

  14. Dap says:

How can you say you didn’t say what you said on TV? How a site called “gossip cop” can just print a denegation instead of watching the original video and decide by itself? Surely there must be some people speaking German in the USA, right?

    • Kim says:

I don’t believe Tom said it.I know it is the truth he was blindsided by Katie filing but I don’t believe he would publicly admit it.I need to see interview.

      • TG says:

He might have said it to gain sympathy so that he looks like a victim rather than the other way around. Katie and Suri have beeen the victim. At least until she up and left him. The fact that he capitulated in only 10 days or so says it all to me.

I will never watch or pay for anything tom cruise or halle berry endorse. Other celebs get on my nerves but these two have crossed the line of human decency when it comes to children. You don’t try to wrest a child away from the other parent just because you can and just becaue you want to whether it be by using the courts with your BS or you BS cult brainwashing technique. Disgusting waste of human baggage.

      • Dap says:

The video is there, but I can’t read it in my locale (and I don’t speak German anyway), but I’m sure someone on the forum is from Germany and could tell us that:
        http://www.prosieben.de/stars/steven-liebt-kino/video/clip/2241742-steven-liebt-kino-interview-mit-tom-cruise-zu-oblivion-1.3540294/
Also, I found very strange that this video is nowhere on youtube, while there are a lot of videos from the same TV-show on youtube. That makes me think that Cruise’s people might have asked to delete it. Just my two cents.

      • Dap says:

OK, Viv has answered my question down there. Apparently, it’s only an extract of the interview, so that’s why nobody knows for sure what is or isn’t on this video. My bad.

      • Kim says:

@TG COS are too cunning and sneaky to deny something that can be seen on TV.As I said I know he was shocked by her filing but he won’t admit because it makes him look weak rather than powerful and in control. His ego won’t let him admit she blindsided him IMO.Lastly I am Team Halle Halle may be crazy but Gabriel is evil.Mark my words

      • Zombie Shortcake says:

I also am skeptical that he publicly said anything about Holmes. He avoids talking about Kidman, Rogers, and personal details about his older children, as much as possible.

  15. tracking says:

But might not the 5 yr mark suggest contract?

  16. JL says:

    Bummer,

I bet it is a challenge to find out you aren’t sliced bread and peanut butter too.

Being married to Tom Cruise wasn’t enough, Scientology wasn’t enough, money wasn’t enough nor was 24/7 “servants” enough for Katie.

Tom, you may want to rethink buying $7 million planes for little girls – it may not be enough.

Unfortunately you have none of the characteristics that are enough for a relationship!

  17. bokchoi says:

He looks darn good for fifty, and I actually enjoy his movies. That being said: in real life? He’s probably nutty as a fruitcake.

  18. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

What amazes me after all this, including all his years of crazy unethical stuff he has pulled behind the CO$ walls, that ppl still support him! Why? He wouldnt get hired for huge film projects and his star power would decline if people would stop supporting this lunatic and seeing his movies! He may always be rich, but he doesnt always have to be in current films. People need to stop watching his crap for him to go away. He has ruined the lives of so many people, we should be doing all we can to prevent this from happening at the current or even higher scale in the future.

    • M says:

This. +100. Abusive people only keep on abusing when they’re still getting something out of it.

    • Belle says:

I don’t think that the majority of people have any idea what goes on in the Co$ cult…. and by extension, the type of person that TC is. Sure there have been some great books published… and the media has made some pathetic, half-assed attempts to scratch the surface of the ‘church’, but it’s just not enough. At this point, unless someone actively tries to learn about the awfulness that is this organization, then they just don’t seem to know. Sadly, I just don’t think most people pay attention unless something is getting MAJOR attention. This is not a criticism of people who aren’t aware. Many people barely manage to keep up on current events that are all over the news, much less small stories and rumors about what many probably believe is just a weird church.

      • TrustMeOnThis says:

The solution to this is to talk about it with your friends and family. Spread the word. Light disinfects.

Hi OSA! Remember, “freeloader debt” is NOT legally enforceable! 🙂

    • DoloresChurch says:

I think his star is fading in America, but he is still selling overseas. They go crazy for him in Asian countries.

  19. Joy says:

Ok I thought he was like a super Battleship Master Thetan level 75 that had psychic and telekinetic powers. And yet he missed this?

  20. Dee Cee says:

I CAN’T HEAR YOOOOOOU KATE.. I Can’t hear you when you are dragging down my audit meter grade with lies and negative forces..

  21. Viv says:

I watched part of the TV interview which was boooring. It looked a little like two gay pretty guys flirting for 10 minutes. Tom sat down with the interviewer and they mainly talked about the filming of Oblivion and Tom’s childhood dreams of becoming an actor. They shared childhood memories and Tom said he likes the sensation of height- ha- what a sad fact when you are so short.

The only funny part was when the interviewer gave him two yellow personalized raincoats for Tom and Suri and then told Tom that he had them monogrammed so Tom wouldn’t mistake Suri’s for his. PRICELESS!

You can watch the video here, the interview is in English with subtitles- skip through the German parts before and after. Tom doesn’t mention the divorce in any of this but the TV station says they talked for an hour and this was only a 10 minute clip, so who knows?

    http://www.prosieben.de/stars/steven-liebt-kino/video/clip/2241742-steven-liebt-kino-interview-mit-tom-cruise-zu-oblivion-1.3540294/

I’ve got a People mag from OCTOBER of last year that says basically the same thing, so US is a day late and a donut short.

  23. Mabs says:

You’re a frakkin’ nut case from Scientology’s orbit; can’t even watch your movies anymore. Your fall from grace is way overdue now get down on all fours and bark.

  24. marie says:

even though he is a crazy, whacked out nut job I still want to see Oblivion.. it looks cool, don’t judge..

  25. PortlandJan says:

I LOVE the smell of schadenfreude in the morning.

  26. CF98 says:

    @Belle
I think she has full custody and he’s opting not to visit Suri since well she’s not his bio kid and won’t be a part of Scientology but whatever Katie has over him in exchange for him getting out of their lives he can say anything via tabloids about him and Suri all he wants.

No way Tom gives up custody if the child were biologically his. I’m sorry I just don’t believe that. He fought harder for his adopted kids.

    • Belle says:

I agree… you could be right. I was surprised that Tom didn’t put up a fight for custody. I think word was that Katie got primary physical custody, with Tom having generous visitation rights.

I tend to think there are only a few reasons this would have happened.

      a) Suri is not Tom’s biological child
      b) Katie had something BIG on Tom and the church that she agreed not to spill.
      c) Tom decided it was in his best interest at the time to ‘live to fight another day’… as in, not drag Katie and Suri through a long custody battle… but wait for a while and try to manipulate the situation later.

      • CF98 says:

Except Tom can’t manipulate the situation not with her family in tow and how public this is. And of course how she’s not biologically his. Tom won’t fight it he just won’t mention Katie/Suri by name anymore

  27. TG says:

@Kim – In regards to Halle, most of why I despise her is stuff she has said and done and the custody court case. We don’t get much of Gabriel’s side becuase he isn’t giving interviews. Now, me probably leaks stuff too, but we know Halle owns TMZ. They do everything in their power to make Gabriel look bad. I just don’t buy that he is evil. I tend to think that he is fighting back because she has been trying to remove their child from him. Using BS excuses to move to France. I think she hooked up with that thug as part of a grand plan to get her child out of the country and away from Gabe because she can’t share. Now, you might have factual info on Gabriel and if so it would be nice if you would share, but if you are getting your info from Halle’s camp than I am not going to believe any of it. I just don’t buy that they were fine for what 3 or 4 years togehter. Had this gorgeous child together. Were seen together on numerous occassions looking happy and now he is suddenly evil? I have a toddler and let me tell you if her father (my husband) was harmful to her in anyway, I would be out of there in a second with my child not lingering along and playing happy and then when things between he and I implode suddenly decide that he is violent, racist, etc. I just don’t believe it. I am willing to listen and read differing opinions but if there is no proof or it isn’t coming from a valid source than I don’t believe it. A judge certainly hasn’t believed it. Just look at Halle’s history of men and hit and runs and convenient amnesia and it never ends. She also stated that her child is black because she is the mother and she is black. Fine, you can think that way, but by the same standards Nahla is white because Gabe is white. Why does she get to decide? Sounds like she is the racist here. I also think Gabe is under tremendous pressure and he may have anger issues. I would too if someone was constanly taking me to court accusing me of this and that and trying to move my daughter out of the country. It would be hard not to fight back and play her games too. Oh, and how to you explain how that thug Olivier beat the crap out of Gabe when Gabe was dropping his daughter off on his own personal time so that Halle could have her for Thanksgiving? How does that result in a beat down? You must give evidence because all I have seen is pointing that Halle and Oliver are violent thugs.

  28. elle says:

Katie has sole custody , decisions are made by her concerning Suri, he has visitation rights only, no say in anything.!!!

  29. homey says:

Tom Cruise reminds me of invasion of the body snatchers. You think you have one version, but when delving deeper, his soul has been hijacked by a dangerous cult. There’s no hope for TC. Thank God KTs papa is a divorce lawyer and got his family quickly and successfully away from this sad shell of a man.

  30. Debbie says:

    I … like his suit?

  31. SydneySpy says:

When it’s all said and done, he’s a trumped up, deluded, overbearing and obnoxious little git. I haven’t seen any of his movies (and won’t) since that early one (about pool players) with Paul Newman. Now, there was a man….
