Surprisingly, everything’s coming up roses & sunshine for ol’ Amanda Bynes

Here’s more “evidence” that Amanda Bynes is doing just fine. Well, “just fine” may be an overstatement, but there is some evidence that Amanda’s problems have been overhyped, and that while she may have legitimate mental health issues, she also has more control over herself than many people have given her credit. Which means that some of those tweets she’s made were just because she’s kind of a narcissist and an a—hole? Perhaps. First up, Amanda’s lawyer says Amanda is doing fine:

Amanda Bynes’ lawyer Richard Hutton tells ET that recent reports on his client are “exaggerated,” and that Bynes is in fact “fine.”

He also gave an update on her Beverly Hills DUI case from last April — in which she allegedly hit a Los Angeles County sheriff’s department cruiser and refused a Breathalyzer test — which is close to a resolution.

Bynes was charged last June with driving under the influence in West Hollywood in connection with the April 6 incident, and Hutton is confident that there will be a plea deal. Her pre-trial and trial setting hearing is scheduled for July 18th at Airport Courthouse in Los Angeles.

Hutton does not think her most recent trouble with the law — she was arrested at her New York apartment on Thursday for reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and physical position of marijuana — will affect the case.

Hutton, who has talked to Bynes recently, says their conversations are “normal” and that there is “no physical evidence” backing up Amanda’s headline-making arrest Thursday.

[From Entertainment Tonight]

Yes, how quickly everyone forgets that before Amanda moved to NYC, she was a holy terror in LA for several months. She was stopped by the police multiple times, and didn’t she even hit a cop car? Yes, she did. She was charged with a DUI, she was texting and driving, she did a couple of hit & runs, and it was a mess. And when the New York judge asked her if this was her first run-in with the law, Amanda and her lawyer were like “yeah.” Because of course. Speaking of the NYC case – Amanda was arrested one week ago for possession and felony evidence tampering – TMZ reports that the case against Amanda is falling apart:

The Amanda Bynes drug case is falling apart … FAST … because the cops have absolutely NO HARD EVIDENCE that Amanda was ever in possession of weed, this based on information TMZ has obtained from law enforcement.

An NYPD official told TMZ … the police report mentions NOTHING of any marijuana recovered at the scene. According to the report, cops saw Amanda throw what they believe is “drug paraphernalia” out the window. The report also says cops smelled “a strong odor of marijuana.”

Based on multiple calls to law enforcement and others … it appears NO DRUGS were recovered … and that’s what Amanda has been saying all along.

As for the alleged bong … it’s almost certain it will never be admitted into evidence. TMZ broke the story … our producer spotted glass remnants on a sub-roof Tuesday and then called police and asked if they had inspected it. He was told they hadn’t, and was asked for the location where the glass was found. Cops arrived a short time later and presumably checked the sub-roof.

Here’s the problem … No one knows if anyone tampered with the glass remnants which sat for days, in the rain. The chain of custody has been irretrievably broken and it’s virtually certain the glass would not be admissible into evidence.

Short story … even if prosecutors try to nail Amanda for reckless endangerment by throwing something out the window — cops say she confessed to throwing a vase but she denies it — there’s no physical evidence of what was allegedly thrown. We’ve spoken with several lawyers who say it will be extremely difficult to convict her on reckless endangerment without physical evidence.

Short story — if you’re betting on this one, Amanda seems to be a pretty safe gamble.

[From TMZ]

Ugh. Can’t the cops CSI this mess and prove that it was A) a bong and B) a bong that belonged to Amanda? And I find it very hard to believe that the cops found no evidence of anything sketchy in Amanda’s apartment. As for what statements Amanda has made publicly – well, she retweeted that TMZ story and then wrote, “This is the first correct article except for one huge mistake! NOTHING was thrown out the window! I didn’t throw anything out of the window! For them to say ‘she confessed to throwing a vase out of the window’ is false and illegal!” And of course she tweeted this too:

I keep thinking the real Amanda must be tied up in a basement somewhere and this is some wackadoodle imposter.

    • Polk8dot says:

I think that this is all a big stunt, in the vein of Joaquin Phoenix’s “I’m still here” production.

I listened to her address the Judge upon her arraignment in NY, and she sounded as lucid, aware, and in control as any of us. But her ‘publicized’ behavior is anything but. Something definitely does not wash.
I used to worry that she was seriously losing her mind, but not anymore. Now I am almost convinced that she TRULY is OK. That this is all some idiotic, twisted ‘project’ that she set up all the way back when she first announced her ‘retirement from showbiznes’. I expect that we will soon be treated to the ‘Hah, Gotcha!!!’ followed by a publicity blitz.
Some people will do anything to stay in the spotlight.

  2. Abra says:

Everything won’t be fine until someone gets this poor girl some help.

    • aims says:

      +1

    • mabooski says:

if this ‘poor girl’ wasn’t a racist then i’d be more inclined to feel pity.

      • Hakura says:

This is a legit question, not trying to be a smartass or anything, but… when did she say something racist? I must’ve missed it. I know she openly ‘hit on’ Drake, & said some nasty things to Rihanna…

      • Dani says:

I don’t know how racist she is considering her obsession with Drake. And she dated Kid Cudi.

      • jelyn says:

@Hakura and Dani : one of her tweets advised Rihanna to stop trying to “look white” and she fetishizes black men. That’s enough, regardless of anything else she may have done.

Having sex with a black person does not mean you are not a racist.

      • Kath says:

Don’t forget all those tweets about “ugly black men”. Charming.

  3. Jessiebes says:

What is going on here? Police need a very legitimate reason and strong suspicions before they lawfully can enter someone’s house. A smell is just not enough.

    • Lucy says:

I agree, and TMZ needs to back off as well IMO, they’re not the cops, for them to go investigating on the roof of her building that’s really intrusive

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Officers can enter a building in NYC with permission of landlord and they have been doing this for 20 years under Operation Clean Halls.

      Totally unconstitutional but blame Giuliani.

      • Jessiebes says:

        I didn’t know that, thanks.

I’m a police officer in another country, if I did what those police officers did,I would not only lose my job, but would probably go to jail for breaching someone’s human rights.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Agreed. It’s totally wrong but same with NYC’s stop-and-frisk policy: it gets the green light because crime rates have been drastically reduced since the procedures were put in place.

On another note, this past weekend I ran a half marathon to benefit the families of officers killed in the line of duty and it was awesome to see all the policeman lined up, high-fiving all the runners. It’s a tough job you guys do out there and we thank you for it.

      • Jessiebes says:

*blushes* Thanks for doing that charity run, much appreciated.

  4. marie says:

sooo, she’d rather people think that she just a huge a-hole?

she may/may not have mental issues (I’m not her doctor) but I also think she’s got an attitude problem. And before anyone says “She wasn’t this way when she was younger” there are stories out there, they’re just well hidden.

  5. Maya says:

Maybe her lawyer saying she’s “fine” and Amanda herself saying she’s “not crazy” is not exactly sufficient proof of her mental well-being? Maybe we should recognize that she is clearly going through some major issues and back off while she works through them? Maybe we should realize we shouldn’t take her tweets and claims at face value because for the moment she seems to be, let’s say, an unreliable narrator of her own life?

I mean, look, I’m not trying to intrude on anyone’s gossipy fun here. But this whole situation makes me uncomfortable. Reminds me of the whole Britney situation circa 2007. There are some things that should be off-limits for snark. Just my two cents.

    • gloaming says:

      I agree.
Obviously I don’t know, but she seems to have real mental health issues. I hope for her sake I’m wrong.

  6. Meaghan says:

In her defense. They found no drugs and even if they had, it probably would have just slid like blohans ‘these jeans are my friends’ defense. I think it was blown up and a lot of the gossip is lies and fake. I think there is truth to some of it, and she is nuts, but not to the extent the media is portraying her. And a TON of her crazy tweets had actually been that arnands profile.

  7. Tapioca says:

Of course she’s “fine”! Has any lawyer ever said, “Yes, my client is a hot mess, completely guilty of the accused crime and I took on the case only because I’m about to be evicted from my apartment for non-payment of rent”?

She’ll slide on everything because she once had a hit show on Nickelodeon and anyone who tries to rein in her behaviour is just ugly, Ugly, UGLY!!

    • Hakura says:

Agreed… I don’t know why anyone even bothers printing statements from celeb’s lawyers, it’s always just defensive denial BS.

  8. Kara says:

I read these articles and try to figure out exactly what’s wrong w this girl..body dysmorphic disorder definitely…bipolar? Schizophrenia? She’s waaaay too concerned about outward appearances…maybe it’s the way she was raised? Poor thing..all I see is a cry for help

  9. Talie says:

Wasn’t there weed all over her apartment…where did that go?

  10. Sandra says:

Didn’t she state in court that she threw a vase out the window? I’m assuming the judge and counsel and the court clerk and anybody in the gallery that day could verify that. No doubt there was a transcript prepared.

I’m always flummoxed by people who lie about easily verifiable things. Next tweet from Amanda Bynes, “There is no gravity! Gravity isn’t a beauty queen like me! And oh yeah, the sky is orange!”

  11. Bonnie says:

I dont know if its comparable to britney as some here do? As was pointed out on this site last week Bynes was taken in for a psych evaluation and released which means she is not that out of touch with reality.. Either way something is wrong,. But i am not with people who says her antics such “Rihanna deserves to be beaten” as is ALL down to mental health issues. She is clearly displaying some unsavoury personality traits too. Again when i think of Britney she was not a mean and bullying person such as Bynes, even at her worst.

    • Mich says:

She was not given a full psych evaluation, which takes days. She was ‘assessed’ to make sure she understood the charges against her. It took a few hours, tops.

      • Bonnie says:

Oh i know that but If she didnt know where she was and what she is saying they would have sectioned her. people act like she is so crazy she doesnt know what she is saying because she is mentally ill. She is obsessed with calling other women ugly. She defends domestic violence. She comes out with alleged racist statements. Not all mentally ill people would do that. I wish her the best, but i cant with the idea that this isnt also part of her person. If you want to excuse that, then you should also make excuses for lohan who i think also has been suggested to have mental health problems. I think this is a combo of issues. Perhaps the biggest being that they were child stars, it seems to trigger something in these young women. Wish the best for them all though

      • Mich says:

Lohan went through a lengthy mental health assessment and was given a clean bill of health. Despite that, she has been in court-mandated psychotherapy for over a year now.

I’m not excusing the nasty things Bynes’ has been saying but I’m not looking at them in isolation either. See my post below. Her ability to regulate behavior seems really off.

      • Bonnie says:

With all due respect, thats actually not true. First of all it would be misconduct and highly unethical for health professionals to release a person psych evaluation so we dont actually know what is lohans real problems. All we know is that Lohan has been evaluated and unlike Britney and much like Bynes she was released. There was stories that when Lohan was as ucla which is psych unit more than a rehab, it leans towards treatment of psych issues in people with both drugs and psych problems, there were rumors that she had a personality disorder. And her judge stated they believed mental health issues were the root of her problems not the drugs. There were also stories that she was talking to herself much like the stories that we hear about Bynes these days. My main point is though that a person can have mental health issues and still not be percieved as a nice person by people around them, see britney. and a person with drug problems doesnt have to be a woman beater like charlie sheen, see robert downey jr. I get what you are saying, but i think its too simplistic to relieve her off all responsibilties.for her behavior. She needs help though for whatever ails her.

  12. Jaime says:

Honestly, I’m starting to think the girl is just a fucking media genius or something. (though I do think she has to have some genuine issues to try to pull this off) I mean.. before all of this started happening seemingly out of the blue, the last time I recall seeing anything about her on the news was when she “retired” from acting (around the same time that she was in “Easy A”). Then again, she must be racking up some insane legal defense bills for a ploy for media attention, whilst simultaneously ensuring that anyone with good sense would not work with her.

So. Maybe it isn’t for the attention. Either way, girl is bat shit crazy (and not in a good or fun way — the Cracken way. We all know where this road is going to take her. I’m afraid for her.)

    • Hahaha says:

Are they all (the 1s going NUTS)just pulling a BRITT- BRITT on us??

    • Mirna says:

She’s not a media genius at all. This is not good publicity. The only person crap like this has “worked” for is Charlie Sheen. Not sure this is getting her work or good recognition.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Right, it works for Sheen because he’s always had a bad boy image. She has pretty much destroyed her public persona at this point.

  13. Shelly says:

Well if she’s “Not Crazy” and she’s “not on drugs” then she’s just a huge bitch with questionable hygiene.

  14. Mich says:

Before people start jumping on the ‘hate on Amanda train’ based on crappy driving and nasty twitter outbursts…

    1. There have be reports over the last year of her talking to herself and to inanimate objects (http://gawker.com/5943530/report-amanda-bynes-is-talking-to-inanimate-objects)

    2. There have been reports of disturbing public behavior (www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/bizarre_bynes_hits_the_gym_wvtAjcEo0Hxd0bys2M4f2K)

    3. Her bizarre behavior led to her almost being evicted from the first NYC apartment she lived in
    http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/red_light_lady_dUeSF0hJTMNgUXCHiWtXWN

Here is an interesting video – purportedly of Bynes on a treadmill at the gym. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_LSZVpn-60

The list goes on and on. This isn’t just about nasty tweets and drugged out driving. The woman does not seem well.

    • Hakura says:

And let us not forget her locking herself in clothing store dressing rooms for hours at a time on 2 separate occasions… And then the Huffington article put up today where she tells Perez Hilton to ‘kill’ himself. -_-
      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/30/amanda-bynes-perez-hilton-kill-yourself_n_3359932.html

I agree with you. =( There are just too many truly f***ed up reports from several different sources, about her odd behavior.

I am NOT excusing the horrible things she’s reportedly done & said. I just think she really needs SOME kind of help. She doesn’t seem mentally well.

  15. Morgan says:

    At least she is skinny.

    • Marie Antoinette Jr. says:

      LOL!

I can’t help it, I’ll probably catch flack for this, but I think she’s funny. There’s lots of crazy people in this world, terrorizing neighbors, relatives, co-workers. At least people like Amanda are sort of “out” with their madness, as in: you can see her coming and get out of the way.

The twitter wars have been entertaining as hell.

  16. lucy2 says:

Her legal troubles might not be so bad, but I don’t think all is good in her world.

  17. Sam says:

This is why armchair psychology never works. Mentally ill people have enough problems already without all kinds of terrible behavior being associated with them. Do I think Bynes is totally fine? Not really. But I’m not going to diagnose her. Frankly, she’d be better off being mentally ill, since if she’s not, that just means she has no explanation at all for her horrible behavior. She’s just a see you next tuesday.

  18. hayley says:

I also don’t think her issues are as dire as everyone makes them seem. I think it has more to do with her being an extremely self-important a-hole that’s constantly stoned out of her mind. some people just really do believe they’re above everyone.

  19. ZsaZzsa says:

    “I’m Not Crazy.”

said the girl with the shaved head, broken fingernails and budget Nicki Minaj wig. (oh yeah, and mugshot)

  20. Hahaha says:

OMFG..Why the cover up?Who are they protecting&WHY not give her the help she DESERVES?Why must she be this way?WhAts behind all this shit thats happening, not only to her?IS this all a cover up, to cover up something else, GOING ON THERE IN HOLLYWEIRD?

  21. LoL says:

    Trolling better than Joaquin Phoenix.

  22. Stacy says:

I fluctuate between this being a Joaquin Phoenix-like stunt for publicity or if she’s seriously mentally ill.

Let me straight up admit that I am no psychologist/psychiatrist, I have not studied psychology, psychiatry or anything like that so…

Maybe I’m being a cynical person, but there just seems something so contrived about this whole thing. Her tweets are just too disgustingly nasty and gross to be those of a (seemingly) sane individual, yet she has gotten more attention than she has in her entire career. She’s now the top – or one of the top – news stories for the last couple of weeks.

She may be mentally ill, she may be faking; but one thing is for sure, she is enjoying the attention she’s getting and the reactions she’s getting. The only reason(s) she deleted the disgusting Rihanna tweets were because Rihanna fans were savaging her all over Twitter. Rihanna has 29 million twitter followers, Bynes has just over 1 million (and she probably just got those in the past few weeks).

Whether that’s a sign of her (alleged) mental illness or her just being a c***, I have no idea. I don’t think any of us really do, to tell you the truth.

    • Hipocricy says:

She is mentally ill…not to the point of being deprived of freedom or riding a car and will probably will be held for accountability if she causes an accident.

Her mental illness has just unleashed what she has been hiding from us for years : that she is a nasty, mean person, an a$$hole full of jealousy and biterness.

Her mental illness isn’t an excuse, it made her more vulnerable in the sense that she is now unable to behave in line of her professional clean image. She now can’t hide her true colours and reveals all the skeletons she has been hiding behind that fake good girl image of hers : meaness, shalllowness, bigotry, jealousy, immaturity…

That’s what she has been hiding from us. Mental illness has triggered all the shamfull plugs in her.

      • alfalfa says:

mental illness revealed who she really is as a person? where is the evidence for this claim of yours?

Yes, Mental Illness Can Cause “Bad” Behavior
“Bad,” of course, is in the eye of the beholder, but yes, mental illness can cause behaviour that hurts others. Certainly when a person is paranoid and screams at you that you are from the government sent to spy on them, or when a person is manic and has an affair, or a person is so depressed that they miss their child’s birthday party, one could say that their mental illness has caused that behavior. And it’s behavior that one could certainly characterize as “bad” under ordinary circumstances. But leeway needs to be given to people who are experiencing acute episodes of illness and simply cannot control what is going on.

This isn’t an excuse of Amanda’s behavior but maybe a little understanding is in order rather than outright accusing her of being really this way, because her mental illness supposedly revealed her hidden side.

      • Hipocricy says:

I don’t need to understand a woman who attack other people and act crazily with a car on the pretense that she is maybe mentally ill when no mental illness has been officially diagnosed YET and when nothing so far has been said on how it may affect her nasty behaviour towards X or Y person.

Tomorrow she may kill someone with her car and some people will put that on her supposed mental illness without even knowing if it is the case, without even knowing if it has impacted such reckless behaviour of hers.

I keep my sympathy for those she attack and hurt.

She is nasty, mean and act as she MAY have a mental illness that COULD explain that behaviour. That last point is still not established.

So far her nastiness is the only thing that is established, her mental illness is STILL pure speculation and if she suffers from it, no diagnose isn’t out to determine wether or not it impacts that behaviour.

So no, don’t need understanding on specualtion of potential illness used as an excuse or to belittle her nasty behaviour. She is just mean and untill a diagnose is done proving that her so called illness is the reason why she is nasty, i won’t excuse her behaviour or show some understanding over something she may have OR NOT that explain this.

  23. grabbyhands says:

I’m surprised that her lawyer has time to talk considering all the lawsuits she’s having him file against everyone.

  24. SnarkySnarkers says:

God, she seemed so normal and down to earth just a few years ago. Heres an MTV diary on her right before “Shes the Man” came out. Its like a completely different girl. Sad. The hell happened to my childhood? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-8P1bdK9IU

  25. logan says:

No trashing of Amanda here. This poor girl has serious problems. Praying she gets the help she needs. This is definitely not the same as Lindsay Lohan.

  26. kristiner says:

Bitch ain’t crazy. She’s more sane than we are probably. She’s being an actual good actress playing us all for fools I believe.

    I truly believe that.

    She’s crazy like a fox.

  27. irishserra says:

Pardon my ignorance, but what are we looking at, in the photo inset? I can’t tell what it is.

    • Joanna says:

      roach (small piece of joint)

      • Lucrezia says:

Oh! I thought it was a false nail (just attached by the corner, so it was 90% off and hanging at a funny angle).

I did think it was odd to be calling her out over a broken nail.

And I still can’t actually see a joint – it simply looks like a false nail to me, but I’ll trust you … a roach makes much more sense.

  28. Lease says:

I honestly think that what we are seeing here is a girl going from “celebrity with a good publicist and people around creating her image” to “retired celebrity without publicist or anyone to give two shits about her image”
She’s probably always been a self centred bitch,

  29. Chrissy says:

The cops probably did a bad job. She may get out of this one this time, but there will be more to come since her mental issues have not gone away.
