Channing Tatum on releasing his daughter’s first photo: ‘We didn’t want to use a tabloid’

Channing Tatum is promoting his new thriller/action flick, White House Down, which is out this weekend. Channing plays a military type who somewhat randomly ends up protecting the US President, played by Jamie Foxx, from a terrorist takeover. I just watched the extended trailer over on the movie’s website and it looks good! It’s nice to see Channing play in an action hero role when we’re so used to seeing him in romance and comedy films. (He has done these type of films before though, particularly those GI Joe movies.) He’s got the chops for it, and the film looks like it has some nice humorous moments too. Plus Foxx seems like he delivers a solid performance as well. It will probably do well at the box office.

There are all sorts of interviews with Channing in the lead-up to this movie. I’ll just recap a few of my favorites, where he talks about his new baby with wife Jenna Dewan, three and a half-week old daughter, Everly Tatum.

On playing a dad on screen for the first time
Jenna [Dewan-Tatum] and I weren’t pregnant then, but we conceived on that movie. So it’s kinda crazy that I had a daughter on the movie…and now we just had our own little, cutest, most amazing thing ever.

On how his wife Jenna is doing
he’s good, she’s really good. Tired, you know…just taking care of the baby on those first months. First months are hard.

On helping Jenna at home
[Jenna’s] tired. Those first few months, it’s just ridiculous, just [taxing]. All I can really do is just sit there and change diapers … and get them food. Whatever they want.

On missing his daughter
I’m away from her for 12-13 hours and I feel like I come home and I feel like she’s changed—like her face looks different. You feel like every minute that you miss is horrible.

You’re never gonna be so excited when something poos, cause it’s like, ‘Aw yeah, I’m in the game!’ Let me have it, give it to me and then you give it back to her cause you know you don’t really do very much.

On releasing their daughter’s first photo through Facebook
We didn’t want to go through a tabloid — we just wanted to let it out so paparazzi would stop trying to hound us. You know, here it is, that’s it. Now, let us be.

[From E! Online, Extra TV and People]

He’s such a good guy, and you just get the impression that he adores his wife and baby and would do anything for them. Plus I buy that Channing and Jenna are very hands-on parents. As for whether they’ll have more kids, Channing joked “We could possibly have some Irish twins, I don’t know.”

In other news about Channing, he posted photos of himself on Facebook over the weekend visiting monuments in Washington DC. In one picture (below) he looks like he’s trying to climb the White House fence. He looks like Kellan Lutz here, doesn’t he? Not a good look for Channing, but the hot stills from the film balance it out nicely.

I know he is popular, but I do not think the paps would be hounding them! The first pic would not be a big get.

    • Kim1 says:

ITA I doubt they would get a cover if they did want to sell pics.

I don’t know, his career has gotten pretty huge in the past few years, I could see them being bothered by paparazzi, but maybe not to the extent of a couple where both are famous.

Either way, I like the social media release more than a magazine cover. It just feels more like a normal new parent thing rather than a celebrity thing.

    • Seagulls says:

I bet he knows how many paparazzi follow him.

  6. Dawn says:

This why I like him so much, he is NOT a Hollywood type looking for a big pay day for a picture of his offspring. I love that! I wish them so much happiness and success unlike others who keep on looking for the cold hard kash be it a picture of their child or whatever. He is one cool cat!

  7. Spooks says:

It’s sweet that he says WE weren’t pregnant then. I like him so much, he’s such a sweetheart.

  18. Melibea4ever says:

I love this guy,he’s so real and down to earth!

  19. Happyhat says:

He seems very nice. But is it me? I don’t get why one would have to ‘release pics of ones kids’ like as a thing? Like, as a career move. Actually, what am I talking about, I completely understand it from a career-move point of view if you’re in Hollywood and your whole life is part of your ‘thing’. I just find it really weird and annoying when celebs do that – “Look at me, I’ve had a baby! Now give me money…”
